Energy drain may be tied to bug in radio

I've been reading a lot of irritated posts about the lack of an off switch on the new nano. I've also read, and seen, that the nano will turn itself off after 36 hours of non-use.
What I've seen is that if I just use it to play mp3 files, it does behave in that manner. That is, the battery lasts for days, about as expected. If, however, I use the radio, then turn it off, and go to do other things, it still seems to drain as if the radio were on. I'm thinking that the radio, once activated, is refusing to totally turn off. The result is, even if the last thing I did was play mp3 files, that I wake up to a dead nano.
I'm thinking this is a bug, and apple needs to update the nano software for this issue.

Hi Brad,
iPod software update version 1.1 for iPod nano (6th generation) is available. You will be able to turn the iPod nano (6th generation) off after updating it.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4531 provides more details about iPod software update changes.

• [BUG N95]Radio only on left channel

Hi. Since upgrading to v12 firmware the radio is only playing on the left headphone. First I thought the headphones might be damaged but the music player works perfectly, its just the radio only going to the left headphone!
Whats that about?!
The bug it does NOT depend on signal strenght.
i'have made more tests (deep reset inclusive).

Hi guyz.Just wondering if you have tried to set the Balance in the music-Player of N95?
I suggest you guyz play a song and then goto the setting of the music-player maybe then it should work, if you see whether the balance is out.... its worth a try.
You can then check in your phone(general)setting{tools->Setting->general->enhancements} that you have selected HEADSET as your default.
May be it should solve it!
Come on give it a try then post your results here.

HI,
Since I have installed iTunes 10.4, my RADIO don`t work. No sound.
And If I go back to my playlist, it crashes, no sound too.
I have to turn it off and turn it on.....
Idea?

Hello Maccers,
English:
I'm got also the same problem with covers in Finder, So i'm opening some Mp3 files it will automatic opens iTunes and add them to my iTunes Library, if i wanna edit some ID3 tags that works full but the coverillustration doesnt appears in iTunes or it takes a few seconds when it appears (i'm use BMP pictures), But since i have updated my iTunes to 10.4 it even never appears on the thumbnails in Finder and the strange things is, I have it only with iTunes 10.4 edited Mp3 files.
Not with with Mp3 files i'm edited at iTunes 10.3 10.2 10.1 10.0 or earlier they just have album-art thumbnails on iTunes and Finder.

If you create a metadatatype with a single metdata block, and you reference that in your vm/cm cell attribute using a *one* based index, Excel seems to see the link and it honors it when saving the spreadsheet.
So, I ended up with something like:

• E71 WIFI drain energy even is turned off

Hi,
I have E71 from 4 weeks, its the best phone ever, in the beggining there was a problem with garmin, but now i close application after using garmin. Now i saw that after restart the energy is normal abount 0,02 - 0,03 but if i start WIFI i browse some sites, when i close browser and turn of WIFI scan there is energy drain every one minute and it is about 1W. Does somebody knows what is the reason? There is picture of Energy Profiler with 2 drains between 1 minute
Attachments:
E71.png ‏13 KB

OK. A few more things I did:
Switched off Active Standby. Also in Themes I told the phone to not show date and time but a text ".". However in complete standby I still got the "jumping bar" with the time in it. Does anybody know how to shut that down also?
I remember from early days, that having a comletely black screen instead of a clock on it, can save you a lot of energy. Reason for that is supposedly, that the phone will a) have to show pixels instead of nothing and b) also hast to constantly repulse/refresh the display every few seconds to make sure it shows the correct time.
Can anybody confirm that?
Since connection to the network is probably the biggest all time sucker I decided to also note the dB of reception. Which is as low as -50dB. This seems to be good. When I cover the antenna part of the phone the reading gives me -100dB.
Also I turned off UMTS mode and went for only GMS (this however does not seem to make a huge difference).
The best values I could get were 5mA. Averaging over a short but reasonable time span (hold 8 and then scroll) however got me the 8mA again.
Then I had the smart idea of sending the phone to offline mode. However even that leaves me with sometimes 5mA but mostly 7-8 mA (again averaged over reasonable short periods.
That's it ideawise from me. Anybody else? :-)

• Flash Player 11.7 Sound Playback Bug

We've received reports that sound is cutting off from both video and audio content with some Flash content using Flash Player 11.7.700.169 (and 11.7.700.179). I apologize to those effected by this bug. We've been able to reproduce the issue internally and are currently investigating the cause and possible fixes and workarounds. If you haven't already, please take a minute and let us know how this issue impacts you by leaving a short comment (or vote) on this bug report:
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3539635
Your feedback is important to us and we will continue to update the bug report as new information becomes available.
For those looking for an immediate fix, you can either update to our latest beta (4/30/2013 - Flash Player 11.7.700.197 Beta) or you can downgrading Flash Player to our latest 10.3 release. The latest 10.3.183.75 build contains all of the recent security updates and should provide a stable platform for both audio and video. Please see these two faqs for details.
How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?
Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 10.3 for Windows or Macintosh?
In addition, Google Chrome users will need to switch to the system version of Flash Player (NPAPI version) after installing the 10.3 release:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/enable-system-flash-player-goog le-chrome.html
The next official update, currently scheduled for release in mid May, will resolve this bug.
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for all the keeping up with us and stuff. I have an issue and i'm not sure if this was already discussed (if so sorry). Windows 8 IE 10 I'm getting an error tying to downgrade my customers to the beta. The message i'm getting is
The installation encountered errors:
Your Microsoft Explorer browser includes the latest version on the Adobe Flash Player built-in. Windows Update will inform you when new versions of Flash Player are available.
I have done my research and I cannot find how to fix this issue. I have ran the uninstaller multiple times and restarted blah blah all the goodies. It will not let me install the beta.
Please help..... any idea how to get beta running on hundreds of my customers machines?
The beta work's great it seems like and I wouldn't mind installing the beta on all their machines till the final release (which seems like a few weeks away)
Thanks again, Tim

• UWC/CE 6.3 and Access Manager 7.1 SSO sometimes fails (seems like a bug)

PREAMBULA: I started writing this post thinking that our AM SSO setup was at fault in some step. As I was gathering data, checking the doc-links and config files and finally sniffed the servers for HTTP dialogs, I grew pretty sure there's a bug in UWC/CE, AM SDK or Web Server Policy Agent, whatever implements the AM SSO session checking.
In short, as written below, our "sunmail" server can POST a broken cookie to AM server, if the cookie originally contained a "plus" character. The "plus" is replaced by a "space", invalidating the session check. As we know, "+" is often used in URLs to "escape" the space character. Perhaps some URL cleanup routine backfired here. I have double-checked, it is not the reverse proxy on "psam" breaking things. It is "sunmail" (UWC/CE or Policy Agent, don't know for certain) supplying the broken request. On the few occasions when the AM cookie contains no "plus" characters, the SSO works like a charm (also checked by a sniffer). Whenever there is a "plus", it breaks.
Is there some known bug or workaround that matches this description?
Nevertheless, for completeness' sake I kept the description of our setup. Maybe it's at fault after all :)
We have an installation of JCS5 with the latest patches as of early July 2008. And as the subject implies, we have problems with AM SSO in UWC/CE web-interface. I have reported them before, then they seemed fixed (not occuring for several tests in a row), but as time has shown, something wrong is still there.
So I'll try to go into deeper detail now, as we've may have overlooked some nuance... Then again, as my sniffer research below shows, this may be an engine bug and these setup details are irrelevant.
Our setup is split into several Solaris 10 full-root zones hosted on several servers, some of the components are enroute to HA (perhaps we made some mistakes on this part of the way?)
So, we have the following software stack:
1) two MMR Directory Servers (DSEE 6.3 = DSEE 6.2 from JCS5 + 125278-07__DSEE_6.3__x86x64 + 125277-07__DSEE_6.3__x86_sol9 patches) working in zones on two different servers. Except for one time when a manually forced ZFS rollback corrupted one of the server instances, no problems here.
2) two zones with Directory Proxy Servers (6.3, exact versions as above) running at port 389 provide the clients with an illusion that they have a stable Directory Server, even if one of the actual servers is currently rebooting ;)
These DPS zones are hosted on two different servers as well and are primarily used by LDAP clients (JCS components) running in other zones on the same respective servers.
3) A zone with Sun Web Server 7.0U1 and Access Manager 7.1 (+ 126357-01__AM71_x86 patch) and Delegated Admin 6.4-4.01 (from JCS5 + 121582-18__COMMCLI64__x86 patch).
At the moment there is one such zone (named "cos-psam-01.domain.ru" in the logs below), but we expect(-ed) it to become two similar zones as per AM HA setup.
Zones listed in (1-3) use private IP numbers, they belong in our internal DMZ.
Zones listed in (4-5) below use public (routed) IP numbers, they belong in our external DMZ.
4) A zone with Sun Web Server 7.0U1 used primarily as a reverse-proxy server (optionally with a load-balancer libpassthrough.so plugin) successfully used for other hosted projects. One of its configurations now passes connections from an externally routed IP address published as "psam.domain.ru" to "cos-psam-01.domain.ru", per AM HA setup, so HTTP clients believe they work with an Access Manager instance. This zone has a backend interface with a private IP address to communicate with the actual AM instance.
In AM configuration (both LDAP and file-based) we have configured a site ID with the publicly known name and mentioned both names (psam and cos-psam-01) in organization's realm/dns aliases.
5) A zone with the rest of the Sun Java Communications Suite 5, as in Messaging Server 6.3 (6.3-6.03 64-bit: ci-5.0-1.03_solx86_x64__Messaging_Server_6.3-2 + patch 126480-09__MSG63__x86-64), UWC/CE 6.3 (from JCS5 + 122794-17__UWC63-4.01_core__x86), Instant Messaging 7.2 (from JCS5 + 118790-29__IM72__x86-1 + 118787-28__IM72__x86-2), Calendar Server 6.3 (from JCS5 + 121658-28__iCS63__x86). The web-components (UWC/CE, IM, /httpbind) are deployed in a Sun Web Server 7.0U1 as well.
This zone is named "sunmail.domain.ru" and has a routed IP address for direct external access to its servicess.
The AM SDK part is also patched (126357-01__AM71_x86); it points to the load-balancer name ("psam.domain.ru") as an actual AM server.
# imsimta version
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-6.03 (built Mar 14 2008; 64bit)
libimta.so 6.3-6.03 (built 17:15:08, Mar 14 2008; 64bit)
SunOS sunmail 5.10 Generic_127112-07 i86pc i386 i86pc
While setting up this server set we tried to use AM SSO as the user login method, but it works unreliably.
"Unreliably" means that while most of the time entering a correct uid and password in Access Manager login page ("http://psam.domain.ru/amserver/UI/Login") does redirect a user back to "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" along with a new cookie, and the user is redirected again to his or her mailbox, sometimes the user receives the UWC/CE login page. Entering the same uid and password here does log him in, but it breaks the whole point of SSO and only increases the end-user routine required to log in :\
We have also seen the "missing mail tab" problem - if the users point the browser to any hostname different from "sunmail.domain.ru" (i.e. www.mail.domain.ru which is equivalent in DNS), they have only the Address book, Calendar and Options tabs; no webmail. So far this is resolved by Policy Agent forcing The One name of the server.
Here's the configuration we did specifically for AM SSO:
1) in AMConfig.properties of "sunmail" and "cos-psam-01" we set up
com.iplanet.am.cookie.encode=false
am.encryption.pwd=<the same value>
all hostname-related parameters point to "psam.domain.ru"
2) in AMConfig.properties of "cos-psam-01" a number of FQDN equivalence entries are added (so it does not redirect to a server hostname unknown to visitors):
com.sun.identity.server.fqdnMap[publicname-or-ip]=psam.domain.ru
com.sun.identity.server.fqdnMap[cos-psam-01.domain.ru]=cos-psam-01.domain.ru
3) in "msg.conf" on "sunmail" (entries added via configutil):
local.webmail.sso.amcookiename = iPlanetDirectoryPro
local.webmail.sso.amnamingurl = http://psam.domain.ru:80/amserver/namingservice
local.webmail.sso.singlesignoff = yes
local.webmail.sso.uwcenabled = 1
service.http.ipsecurity = no
(perhaps some more options are required? Looking for confirmation about: local.webmail.sso.uwclogouturl local.webmail.sso.uwccontexturi local.webmail.sso.uwchome service.http.allowadminproxy )
4) Configured Web Policy Agent for Sun Web Server, so that users without an AM session are required to get one. Set up per [http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/AM_redirection_using_Policy_Agent], except that com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.notenforced_list points to the many names our server can go known by.
5) Updated the logout URL in /opt/SUNWuwc/webmail/main.js:

According to ngrep sniffing,
1) the browser goes to "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" without any cookies
2) receives a redirect and goes to "http://psam.domain.ru/amserver/UI/Login?gotoOnFail=http://sunmail.domain.ru:80/uwc&goto=http%3A%2F%2Fsunmail.domain.ru%3A80%2Fuwc%2Fauth"; sends no cookies either.

Set-cookie: AMAuthCookie=LOGOUT; Domain=.domain.ru; Expires=Thu, 01-Jan-1970 00:00:10 GMT; Path=/
6) The browser requests "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" using the newly set cookie (looks like the old one to me though):
Cookie: amlbcookie=02; iPlanetDirectoryPro=AQIC5wM2LY4SfcwuT2ASCrsfO78nXdceEHXeH1+xTqH7C3I=@AAJTSQACMDI=#
7) The "sunmail" web-server checks the AM session validity with the same "psam.domain.ru". It sends a series of POSTs to /amserver/namingservice:

<RequestSet vers="1.0" svcid="com.iplanet.am.naming" reqid="685">

</GetNamingProfile>
</NamingRequest>
</Request>
</RequestSet>(receives a large XML list of different Access Manager configuration parameters and URLs)
...then a double-request to /amserver/sessionservice:

<RequestSet vers="1.0" svcid="Session" reqid="686">

</Request>
</RequestSet>As a result it receives an XML with a lot of user-specific information (the username, LDAP DN, preferred locale, auth module used, etc.)
!!!*** Now, the problem part ***!!!
8) And then "sunmail" POSTs a broken cookie to "psam" (note the space in mid-text, where the "plus" sign was previously).
I looked over the large XML responses to the two previous requests, whenever they mention the session cookie value, the "plus" is there.
For the most detail I can provide, I'll even paste the whole HTTP packet:
POST /amserver/sessionservice HTTP/1.1

There have been a few reports of the same behaviour with other customers - specifically with the handling of the encoding of "+" characters to " ". It relates to how cookie encoding/decoding is performed (as you have already observed).
The solution for these customers was the following:
=> AM server/client side:
Ensure that com.iplanet.am.cookie.encode=false in AMConfig.properties and AMAgent.properties on all systems.
=> AM client (UWC) side:
- Set <property name="encodeCookies" value="false"/> in /var/opt/SUNWuwc/WEB-INF/sun-web.xml. This will prevent UWC from trying to urldecode the cookie it receives and therefore stops it turning the + into a space e.g.

• Possible Bug in image repository

I think I may have found a bug with the image repository. I was deleting an image from the repository, but it still existed after I deleted it. In order to remove it from the system, I had to manually delete it from the flows_files.wwv_flow_file_objects$ table. Is this a common problem people have been having?

For what it's worth, I just had this same problem with 2.1 (XE version). I have been deleting and uploading images, which worked fine until one mage got 'stuck'. I was still rendered but it didn't show up in the images list. It was even shown on a computer that hadn't displayed that image before, so no caching problem. Uploading a new version of the image just showed the old version in Application Builder. I had to manually delete it from the table, now it works fine.

• Possible BUG: duplicating a shape layer only duplicates previously selected points - PS CS6

Unless PS has been updated to make this a feature, i may have found a bug. Now (in CS6 vs. previous versions) when you duplicate a shape layer, if you had previously selected specific points of the shape (for example with the direct selection tool) only those points will be duplicated in the new layer. This is true no matter what tool you are currently using.
What I did was make a rounded-corner rectangle shape -> then direct selected all points on one side to stretch the rectangle without distorting the rounded corners -> then switched to the move tool so no points were selected anymore and only the layer was selected-> duplicate layer (with the intention of duplicating the whole shape). what i got was just the rounded corners on a new layer.
It seems the only way to duplicate the shape layer in its entirety is to go back with the direct select tool -> select ALL points of the whole shape -> change to move tool -> dupe layer.
If that's the intended new functionality, it's a bummer because if you intend to only duplicate certain points, you can already do that while using the direct select tool. Using the move tool, it shows no direct selections and therefore you should be able to duplicate the whole layer.
Maybe I have some weird default option checked that I'm not familiar with? This is not how any previous versions of PS worked and will add friction to my workflow if this is new.

Yes, this is an issue with CS6 and the first release of CC. You have to make sure you deselect all nodes in a path, or you will get the result you describe. I believe Adobe has made some corrections and improvement in the use of shape layers that will hopefully be released soon. However, if you're sticking with CS6, you've got to make sure to deselect on Win the esp key works great.

• Can't believe the caching bug is STILL there

Hi,
I MUST be missing something. It can't be true that this has not been fixed after so many years.
So well, the problem is, every time you load an external asset or file, say for example using a Loader object or a URLLoader object (the same happened in AS2 with MovieClipLoader, LoadVars, XML.load() etc etc, and even before with loadMovie, etc) - every time you load a file, the Flash Player caches that file, and this is independent from your browser: it is Flash Player's own (and primitive) caching mechanism.
Whenever you load a file with the same URL again, no matter whether the file has been changed or not, Flash Player will use the cached copy, and there's NO WAY to prevent that - there are a few workaround that I will discuss later but they don't solve the problem completely, besides being terribly combersome.
Now, the HTTP protocol has a wonderful mechanism to manage the caching of files in an intelligent way, which has been working for years and, I think, was invented even before flash existed, however at least 10 years ago, and it works fine.
If an HTML page has an IMG tag with an image, for example, and if the browser has already a cached version of the image with that URL, the browser will first ask the server for that file and declare it has a cached version with date xxx; if the server's file is not newer than xxx, then the server replies that the file has not changed and the browser can use its cached version (or insist to redownload it if he wishes). But if the file on the server is newer, the server will reply with the new file, and the browser will NEVER show an obsolete cached version of the image (or whatever file).
Now, I don't know why, Flash Player was designed in a very primitive way that ignores this whole mechanism provided and standardised by the HTTP protocol. Flash Player will ALWAYS use a cached version of the file if he has one, it won't worry about veryfying whether it is obsolete or not.
So, unless the user clears its cache, whenever you update an xml, txt, jpg or whatever file that is loaded within your flash application, users that have previously visited the page may still see the old version.
Now, there's an easy workaround for ensuring that a cached version of the file is NEVER used, which is appending a "?somerandomname="+n to the filename, where n is obtained for example as n=(new Date()).value(); in order to ensure that it is always different.
This way, the complete url of the file is always different and the cached version will never be used.
However, this is not a solution either. For small text files it is ok, but for images and swf's for example, you DO want the cached file to be used IF it is not obsolete. Otherwise, returning visitors will always have to wait for the complete download time of everything, including files that have been downloaded yesterday and have not been modified.
So, this problem has been solved ages ago by the HTTP protocol, but the Flash Player is naive and ignores it.
I used to use 2 workarounds: the one I have mentioned for small files (texts, xml's), and the following one for files that can be updated every once in a while:
In the main html page, I append "?lastupdate=dddddd" to the swf name, where dddddd is a manually edited date of the last time something relevant has been updated. So for example:
<object ....... etc etc> ...
Or something like that.
When I update some of the files that are to be loaded, I manually edit the "lastupdate" thing in the html.
Then in the ActionScript programming I use the _root.lastupdate variable to append to the filenames of images or assets I load.
All this is horribly cumbersome and error-prone. Image you deploy a website to a client that will be able to update his own texts and images: you have either to explain him how to edit the html file also, or create some complicated server-side or client-side script to manage the cache-avoiding system. That is, reinventing the wheel, in this case the cache.
Every time a new version of the player was released, I expected it to fix the stupid caching problem and to make my cumbersome tricks obsolete and unnecessary.
I expected to see that the new version would make proper use of HTTP caching protocol specifications, and use cached files ONLY when they are not outdated, after verifying it with the server according to the HTTP protocol.
Every new version of the player was a disappointment.
Then I hope the new version of the language, Action Script 3.0, would fix this.
No, it seems it doesn't.
I've done some tests with AS3 and with my great and sad surprise, the caching "bug" is still there.
Well, the bug, not the "bug": this is a bug proper, because there's no reason why it should work this way.
So, my question is.
Maybe am I missing something? Is there a way, by using some method or property of URLLoader, Loader and/or URLRequest, to tell Flash Player to use the cache in an intelligent way? I mean, in a not-astonishingly-stupid way?
Note that I'm not talking about forcing it to NOT USE cache at all: I mean using a cached version when it is appropriate, and redownloading the file when needed, as all decent http application have done for years.
Perhaps there IS a way to solve this.... It should be the default behaviour and should be transparent, but however, if there is a SERIOUS fix (not a hackaround), that would at least solve the problem.
Do anybody know of a method that really works?
(I have read of people trying by using http headers with caching directives but without success; or in the best case maybe they were able to force never-caching, which is NOT a solution as I explained)
Thanks in advance.
And if there is any Adobe developer listening, please fix this bug since it is really a shame that an application written in 2008 or 2009 suffers from a problem that was elegantly and definitely solved in the XX century.
Regards,
m.

I wrote a long reply and when I posted it it vanished.
I had even control+c'opied it before submitting but it didn't even get into my clipboard.
Shame on this forum (sorry to say that, but that's what I have to say).
So, I'll try to write it again but it won't be the same: the amount of rage is augmented.
Thank you BWolfe for letting me know that Flash now (since last year) has a bug management system. It was also such an enormous shame that it didn't have one.
Adobe used to confuse bug reports with feature requests; now this kind of confusion is still partially there and it is reflected by the voting thing, which is an absolute aberration. In a decent bug management system, the developers take the responsibility to give the bugs the priority they deserve; and no matter how low the priority, even the smallest bug ALWAYS get into the queue.
Now this bug we are discussing has been well known for AT LEAST EIGHT YEARS and I am not exaggerating at all, as I started using flash in 2001 and the issue was already mentioned here and there in forums etc; probably some blind people didn't see it as a bug (rather as a situation you have to face or work around), but it was known. And the very solution, as I already pointed out, was there even before Flash was conceived (well, for the sake of scientifical rigour, I should say, before Flash was commercialized): the HTTP protocol has the capability to perfectly manage file caching in a manner transparent to the higher layer.
So, since I don't believe that nobody at Adobe (formerly Macromedia) has heard about a bug that every intermediate-level actionscript developer in the world knows of, it is already kind of a shame that we have to report it in 2009, but that's ok. But that we have to get votes, no, that's an insult.
Jesus, ActionScript is a programming language, man, A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE... it is not like Photoshop or Premiere; and it seems like in so many years, people who manage it haven't yet realised it completely.
Big Brother contestants should be voted. Feature requests may be voted. Bugs cannot be voted should just be fixed one by one as soon as possible.
Well, sorry for the rant and thank you for the answers.
Hope this gets through this time.

• Has anyone else noticed this bug with multitasking gestures on iOS 5?

I recently updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5 and have just noticed this bug with multitasking gestures.
If you're currently in an app and use the four-finger swipe up to open the app switcher, and then subsequently close another app that's open in the background from the switcher, the app doesn't seem to fully close. What I mean is that if you now use the four-finger swipe right/left to switch apps, when you get to the place where that app you closed was, it's still open, and after you view it, it pops back into the app switcher. It seems like the multitasking gestures feature isn't recognizing that you've closed the app and that it should skip it from now on.
If you do the above steps again, but this time after you close the app from the switcher, use the five-finger pinch to go back to the home screen, it seems to clear the "cache" being used by the the gestures feature. Now if you go back into any app and swipe left to right, the closed app won't load up anymore (which is how it should correctly work).
Has anyone else noticed this, or can anyone else reproduce the bug as I described? I'd appreciate it if an Apple employee could confirm that this is a bug in iOS 5 and not just something wrong on my end. Thanks in advance.

After the time spent and attention to detail in replicating this fault, I do think that you should email your findings to Nokia Care to be found on:

This is after all a discussion forum and others may find the same bug, but until it is logged at Nokia there is little chance of future modification if required!
Done already. They may of course have corrected this in the 11.x firmware currently being rolled out but as I don't yet have access to it I can't say.

• Has anyone else noticed this bug in the 10.x firmw...

A vibrate issue I have noticed in the 10.x firmware. Steps to replicate...
1. Put phone into silent mode or any other mode where the phone is set to vibrate when a call comes in (You can actually do this at any point before step 4).
2. Put your N95 into landscape mode and watch a video or play music (You may optionally plug in some headphones if you wish).
3. Close the video down, take headphones out, put phone back into standby.
4. Call yourself or get someone to call you from another phone.
5. Your phone will not always vibrate when the call comes in even though its supposed to. I tried this ten times and it only vibrated as it was supposed to during 3 of those attempts.
So far I can't work out whether this is caused by inserting headphones or making use of the media buttons by sliding the slider down.
Anyone else noticed this?

• Photoshop CS3 Actions Batch mode bug?

I posted this in the Mac forum but received no responses after a couple of days, so I am trying it here.
Photoshop CS3 Actions seem to have a bug such that when used in Automate > Batch mode it will use the name of the first file opened in the batch session for every file processed in that session. Since that name is used in Save step, this means having to deal with the "File Already Exist" dialog for every file in the batch because it is attempting to save at the designated location with the same file name. If the continue option is chosen each time, the final result is one file with the first opened file name, but with the contents of the last processed file.
To confirm that this is a problem particular to the opening step, I have disabled all processing steps as well as the saving step by toggling them in the Actions panel. I then ran the action in batch mode on a folder containing 4 files. This resulted in 4 opened files all with the same name but different image content.
This was with the "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked/not checked, and the "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs" checked/not checked. The problem described also occurs when using a Droplet.
By comparison, Photoshop CS exhibits the expected behavior: when an action is used in batch mode to process an entire folder of files, the name of each file is retained after opening and used after processing in the save or export step.
The above described behavior of CS3 is a change acquired along the way to the CS3 version (I do not have the CS2 version to test). But more importantly, can someone please report if the CS4 version behaves as I described for CS3, or if it has been returned to the CS behavior?
OS X 10.4.11
G4 800 MHz 2 MB L3/processor 1.25 GB SDRAM
Is this a known bug?
Al

Hello Miguel,
I was going to come back to post some of my findings, one of which relates to your staement:
"- The open command created by Photoshop 6 doesn't keep the file's name, it is a much simple open command, and so it opens the file with the own file's name."
In my case I found that my CS version of the "same" action worked, while the CS3 version failed, precisely because the earlier one records less detail for the open step.
My need is to convert dozens of Quark pdf files to GIF and JPEG files for the web. What I found after several days of testing is that it is best to record the opening step in CS3 NOT using a pdf file, so that the "Open As Generic Pdf with 'Name____' " would not be coded into the opening step. Instead I recorded the whole action using a PSD file. Then I can proceed to run it in Batch mode choosing a folder of Quark pdf files as the source location with "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked, and the "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs" checked, and it opens all the pdf files just fine in some background process, not getting stuck in the details of the file name, and proceeds to cary out the flattening, saving, and closing steps to my chosen target location and uses the finder file name of each pdf files in the source folder to save a filename.ext in the Target folder.
Contrary to what I stated in my original post, "Override 'Open' Action Commands" checked/not checked does indeed make a difference. If it is not checked, the files do open in batch mode, but the other steps are not performed. There is much more about this that I would like to know, and this may not be a general solution for all types of files that a user may wish to process in batch mode, but it works for my case. The main trick is to use as simple an opening step as possible when recording the action, and then letting Photoshop use whatever background process it requires to open a particular file type. I tested this by manually saving a pdf file to each of the twenty some odd formats available in the save as dialog to a Source folder, and then proceeded to batch process that folder with the action described above, and it worked for all except one.
So while there may not be a bug involved in this problem, there certainly is a lack of documentation about how the "improvements" in the opening step in newer versions of Photoshop affect using Actions in Batch mode.
Please comment if you can further explain any of the reported results. In particular, what is the situation in CS4?
Thanks,
Al

• List of bugs I've found - 10.5.1

Hi,
If I find bugs, do I just post them here? You guys REALLY need a bug tracker. I mean, really... I've been reading a lot of complaints online all over the web about Leopard bugs, and it's really starting to worry me, especially when I see them on Mac forums.
First, I'm going to list bugs I've found:
BUG #1: AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION:
This one is really getting on my nerves. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and I have an external drive plugged in. When I click on my base station in finder, I see "Connected As: Guest". When I click on "Connect As" it gives me "Connecting..." then "Connection failed". It seems that it's not even giving me the choice of typing in a user. To resolve the issue I have to reset my base station, but when I try to connect with another computer same thing happens. I need to reliably get to my network drive, and this is getting ridiculous.
BUG #2: MAIL TO DO LIST:
Not entirely sure about this one, but to do list items are not showing up in iCalendar. Also, I don't seem to be able to set the alert option. I see it in the list, but I can't do anything with it.
This might have been a fluke, or fixed in 10.5.1, but at one point when I changed "Date Due" to something like "Today" on accident, I was unable to change it back to "No Date"
BUG #3: KEYCHAIN MANAGER
I keep getting unexpected errors when editing, deleting, and even browsing...
BUG #4: SPACES
I had some problems with spaces before the update, which I described in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1239958&tstart=0
Doesn't seem to be a problem now, although I remember it working some point before the update as well... I just thought I'd mention it again just incase it's one of those bugs that crops up every once in a while. Was bugging me all day yesterday.
BUG #5: DOCK
This happened today... When I clicked on the application in my dock, whether it was open or not, it would reveal the application in finder. I had to "killall Dock" in finder to reload the dock, and then it worked normally again.
BUG #6: BOOT
This may not be a bug, but I consider it to be. There is absolutely no boot progress after the grey apple screen. This is important. Please add it back. If something happens during the boot process that causes it to halt, it would be useful to know about where it got stuck, wouldn't it?
BUG #7: Quicktime & Minimize
I haven't tried this yet, but I saw it mentioned on one of the mac forums. I was going to test it, but I can't get into my network drive with all my videos on it, due to one of the most annoying bugs mentioned above.
Basically what was said is when you minimize a QuickTime window with a video playing, it no longer plays in the dock or stops playing (something to that effect). It's one of the things Steve brought out in one of his keynotes. If this was a "feature" that was removed, why in the heck would you remove something like that?
Now I'm going to make some suggestions:
SUGGESTION #1: LIGHTER STACKS
The "stack" shows every single icon on the dock stacked on top of each other. The way stacks works in itself is very productive for me. But having every single Icon graphically on the dock can be a bit slow. I actually notice it stacking up during boot, which is a bit odd. If you must show every single icon, surely you can cache all the icons stacked on top of each other as a single graphic? That way it uses less memory, and boots up a bit quicker. Or even show just one icon of the users choice. My biggest concern is during boot
SUGGESTION #2: SPACES, FULL SCREEN GAMES
Be able to use a space for a full screen game without disrupting it. Would be nice if you could have your game on one space, and switch to another to look something up online.
SUGGESTION #3: SPACES, MORE HOT KEYS
There's a hot key for activating the spaces selector. How about being able to switch to a certain space via hot key? Like Command-S-> or Command-S<- or Command-S/\ (user definable). That way, knowing the space I want to go to, I can get to it quickly. I'd like to be able to jump to a space without using my mouse.
Last thing I want to say... I've read a lot of complaints about features being removed from Tiger... Please look into what users are saying is missing and add them back.
That's all the comments I have for now... It's a bit late. Maybe I'll have more later on.

I've never seen the boot progress bar in Leopard, but if you want a more verbose boot sequence just hold down Command+V while your computer starts up.

It's one of the things Steve brought out in one of his keynotes. If this was a "feature" that was removed, why in the heck would you remove something like that?
I can confirm that videos (at least for me) no longer play while in the Dock.

I've never really had a problem with that - they update very quickly for me.

Press Ctrl+<number> to switch to a certain space. (ie: Ctrl+5 switches to space 5)
Also Ctrl+<arrow> will switch to an adjacent space.
This is all customizable in the Spaces preference pane.

• How do I submit a bug to microsoft for TEE

I'm not sure but I think I may have found a bug in TEE on Linux. The
question on stackoverflow was answered but I've just run into the same problem when trying to merge our trunk to my branch. In short, the root of the problem is that was a directory named
Directory. Over the course of time, our naming conventions changed and this directory became named
directory (the case change). Interestingly, two files (a *.cpp and *.h) somehow were still associated with the first directory name though the directory named was changed and preserved the new case. The problems should be apparent for Linux
users.
Now, as the link I provided mentions, I did try to fix this by using the tf rename command, but after the command was executed to rename the first file, I could do nothing more using TEE because of this error:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/andy/devel/project/directory/code.cpp (No such file or directory). Ok, I just moved on. A coworker executed the very same command from a Visual Studio Command Prompt and it worked and he was
able to check in the named files. "Great," I thought, I'll merge with main and continue. I did so using the
tf merge -recursive <source_branch> <dest_branch> and promptly ran into the same problem when trying to do
tf status and any other tf command.
It seems that there might be a bug in how metadata is handled in this case when using TEE in Linux. How can I submit this to Microsoft?
