Energy saver not avalaible in T440s

Hey Folks,
I've already installed all recommended updates in Lenovo System Update as well as Power Management Driver and the Settings Dependency Package.
Any chance to get that default energy saving plan after a Windows reinstallation?
Thanks so much!

Use sudo if it's a root level event or leave it out to see yours.
Thanks helpful,
anybody who has an answer for my other questions?

  • Shuffle Pictures Screen Saver / Energy Saver not working after 3.1.1 update

(cross-posted from the Snow Leopard discussions)
    Hello,
I've noticed that my Screen Saver has not been kicking in lately and thus my iMac hasn't progressed to the full Energy Saver profile settings (Computer Sleep in 1.5 hrs & Display Sleep in 30 mins). Screen Saver is set to shuffle random pictures from a folder in my Aperture library.
I'm not sure if it is linked or not, but I only noticed this problem after installing the latest update to Aperture (3.1.1) from the Software Update. Since they may be linked I am cross-posting this question in the Aperture discussions as well.
Any suggestions on what may be causing my problem and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

try Resetting it up, I run in that problem with adding images, I end up having to click of the the folder than click on the folder I want than it updates...

  • "Energy Saver" not turning off my screen...

I just got the new Nano and noticed that my screen doesn't fully turn off when I'm not using any controls like it's suppose to when using the "Energy Saver" feature. I would like my battery to last longer like the feature says but its not doing what it suppose to. What should I do?

The power drain of the LCD by itself is minimal. The backlight is where most of the power use comes in (well, that and the processor that decodes the music). I believe it also takes more power to "energize" the LCD over and over than it does to leave it on for a minute in the event you come right back to it (say you change songs after 20s or so).

  • Energy saver not putting my iMac into sleep mode

I've tried ejecting my firewire drives and other usb devices but cannot get the iMac to actually turn off per its energy saver settings. Screensaver and then screen shut off both activate per the energy saver settings, but the computer stays on. Only way that sleep mode is ever activated is if I'm in the login screen, or if I manually press the button on the back of the computer.
Would really appreciate it if anyone has a workaround to actually make my iMac sleep automatically. Never had this problem with my PC..

This might work for you and save a lot of head scratching. Sometimes these sleep problems just can't be figured out. I've used it successfully. Free

  • Energy saver not starting the MM at times, holds the log a clue?

I have a MM as a server, normal OS, that sometimes does not start in the morning.  It is set to shut down at 23.00 and does so all evenings at 23.10.  However this morning (01-10-2011) it did not come on again and I was looking through the log and found some strange stuff.
    like:
    29/09/2011 12:38:06 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/Metadata.framework /Versions/A/Support/mdworker[848] FolderManager: Failed looking up user domain root; url='file://localhost/dev/null/' path=/dev/null/ err=-36 uid=505 euid
    and
29/09/2011 12:38:11    /Applications/Utilities/QuickTime Player 7.app/Contents/MacOS/QuickTime Player 7[262]    DTUninstall(), the current deferred task 0x267454 being removed is also currently executing its dtAddr routine, so unexpected things may result  ( Radar #4555679 ).
    and
    29/09/2011 23:30:02    mds[66]    (Error) Task: QueryClose failed (-1) for store <MDSStoreToken: 0x411050>{storeID:0x6b000010 registered:YES private:NO age:14h18m40s uuid:5D7AEDC7-4772-4AB5-A1D9-5C5AF631FBFF machPort:0x00004007}
Now if it hangs for some reason I have a cron script that kills all at 23.30.  However I installed this via Cronnix and just checked and it is no longer there in Cronnix.  however the machine turns of at 23.30, so this puzzled me too. Is there a way to see in cron if there is a script there?  And remove it?
Two questions, is there anything in the log (I am not an expert here) that should not be or could cause this.
second one, if i do a cron killall, would this effect the energy control panel and for the machine not to start the next morning?
    Looking forward to your wisdom.

  • Energy saver not coming on when lid closed

I'm not sure if this because I changed some setting or because I did the battery sw upgrade but now when IU close the lid on my MBR it does not sleep. The apple on the back of it stays lit, and it looks like the display never goes off. Is there a setting that controls this?

I have the A1175 model number in the recall but my serial number ends in WCRA which has not yet been recalled.
There was an update associated with this recall which I installed (and can't find the link for now). I think that's what screwed with my energy saving.
My MBP also has a problem when it comes out of sleep on battery power the display is very very dim, so dark that you would think it is not running. But it is. The keys are slightly lit up and if I take it in a dark room I can see the screen just a little.
f10 does not brighten it up. The problem is intermittent and seems only to happen when I can't call Apple about it. If I restart the display works fine. Of course I lose whatever was open.

  • Energy Saver problems

I'm having problems with the Energy Saver preference pane.
I have it set to NOT dim the screen while the power adapter is plugged in (I also have it set to not sleep, when the power adapter is plugged in). However, despite having this setting and confirming that the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration has the correct permissions and the actual lines are set properly ("Display Sleep Uses Dim" is "0"), it still dims the screen after a certain time.
An associated issue is that for Battery mode, the computer will NOT sleep at all. The screen goes to sleep, but the computer does NOT sleep. Touching the trackpad immediately wakes up the screen, and if I don't close the lid, the battery will, of course, run down.
I've tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and then restarting, but this does not seem to make any difference.

If you are having trouble with Energy Saver and the solutions in this thread don't solve your problem, and you aren't the original poster, and have no solutions for the original poster, please start a new topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=758
First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you. There are a variety of reasons for Energy Saver not working:
    1. Peripherals whose drivers/firmware no longer understand what Energy Saver low power mode means that need to be updated.
    2. Damaged cache or plist files relating to Energy Saver.
    3. Network settings which tell the computer to wake from sleep if activated.
    4. Bad directory
    5. NVRAM or PRAM needs resetting.
    6. Bad RAM
    7. Bad power supply
    8. Bad external power source/UPS
For each possible cause there needs to be process of elimination to determine what is the cause.

  • My battery icon has disappeared from my menu bar at the top of the screen and the energy saver preferences simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'

My battery icon randomly disappeared a few months ago from my menu bar and i have been unable to make it come back. After researching solutions online it soon became clear that all of the suggestions needed me to go into the energy saver preferences in the setting however the icon for the energy saver preferences is no longer there and whenever i click in the blank space where it used to be, it simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'. As a result of this i never know how much battery i have left and so i just have to wait for the machine to die each time
The mac in question is a 13 inch 2012 macbook air that is running on OS Mavericks at the moment.
Any ideas on how to get the icon back?
    - I recently discovered by accident that before i actually log into my account on my mac, when i am still on the page that contains the options of guest user etc. at that point the battery icon is displayed in the top right hand corner? Why is it that the icon exists there but not once i have logged it? Thankyou for any advice.

  • Hard drives sleep - not energy saver settings

I have two(2) different Quad 2.7 Pro Mac computers, both with 2 500GB Seagate drives mirror raided internally and Sonnet Fusion D500 SATA enclosures with 5 500GB seagates RAID striped.
They all fall asleep after inactivity, and it take several seconds for the drives to spin back up. The energy saver is set to never. I even tried turing it on, restarting, turing it off, reseting, but it did not help.
I've removed the internal RAID and the external still sleeps, and vice versa.
My only thought is it it the seagate drives. They are refurbished baracuda 7200.9 drives.
    Any ideas?

    hello,
i'm experiencing the same issue. i have 4 internal raptors in RAID0 and 4 external WD drives in a PM enclosure and have found that they too sleep as you mentioned.
i checked the energy saver and the box is unchecked to "put drives to sleep when possible" also...
i installed Leopard the other day when i got the new enclosure and external equipment - clean install - so i don't know if it would do the same in Tiger...
any suggestions, or is this normal for exterior storage - regardless if it is SATA or not?

  • My AppleTv keeps dimming as if it is in energy saver mode.  My DVD player and TV do not do this.  How do I disable the energy saver feature on AppleTv?  BTW this is my second AppleTV device so it does not appear to be a product defect.

My AppleTV keeps dimming as if it is in energy saving mode.  My TV and DVD/Netflix player do not do this.  How do I disable the energy saver feature in AppleTV?  BTW:  This is my second AppleTV device so it does not appear to be a product defect.

I keep seeing versions of this same question, and it's always the same answer: it's the TV. Well, it happens to me as well. But it only happens when viewing programming via Apple TV. My cable is totally fine: no dimming. Only with Apple TV. So what's the answer?

  • Will Not Sleep In Energy Saver Mode

My iMac G5 20" 1.8Ghz will not sleep when I set it to sleep in the energy saver panel. This just started for no specific reason a few months ago. It will sleep fine when selected from the Apple menu. I have been through the discussions and no one seems to have a good fix for this. I have repaired permissions, reset the PRAM and SMU, and tried all the different configurations in energy saver. I called AppleCare and they seemed not to know anything about this issue. They recommened an archive and reinstall of the operating system. I feel this is kind of drastic for this and I have not yet tried it unless I can see that other people have done it and it works. My computer is in the repair program for the power supply problem and it has an updated power supply since the original actually smoked and Apple replaced it. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this same sleep issue and got it resolved?

Well I finally decided to try and delete an application that I suspected could be a problem not allowing my computer to sleep automatically. That application is LAST FM a music service from the UK which is actually quite good. I suspected it was a problem since it would always launch when I opened iTunes and asked if I wanted to share my iTunes library with the LAST FM group which I did not. I selected I did not want to share in the LAST FM preferences but it still opened anyway when I launched iTunes. I deleted the program and repaired disk permissions and *It Worked*, my computer will now go to sleep with the settings I selected in energy saver. I know there are other people out there with this problem I would first look at this application and others that are probably running in the backround causing your computer not to sleep automatically. I am a firm believer in trying to work up from the easiest solution before taking the drastic approach, such as a system reinstall, or a logic board replacement. I did take Nikki's suggestion seriously. My power supply had been replaced in the repair program and my logic board did not meet the criteria for replacement since it was not exibiting the symptoms that required its replacement such as video and power problems.

  • IMac late 2013 does not have "Computer sleep" setting in Energy Saver prefs

I seem to be missing the "Computer sleep" setting in my Energy Saver pref window. All I see is "Turn display off after" setting. The computer does go to sleep. Is this a change that was made for recent iMacs?

It appears that the chip manages the power states itself. Again getting exact information on this is a pain and I'm really surprised (well maybe not so surprised) that Apple hasn't said anything about this. You'd think if they make such a drastic change to the system and to the Energy Savings pane of System Preferences there would be something.
    From http://www.itpro.co.uk/desktop-hardware/19655/intel-haswell-release-date-and-spe cs-revealed#ixzz2iJsWa73p
Haswell chips will have 3 power states, compared to two in its predecessor, Ivy Bridge. These will be Active, Sleep, and Active Idle. Intel claims the advanced power saving will help give it at least 20x power consumption improvement over third generation chips.
It appears that the CPU will put itself to sleep if it is inactive for so many cycles.  In a way this makes sense, the old method of telling the system to sleep after so many minutes is really very imprecise.
The only reason not to put the system to sleep as soon as it is idle is that it takes some amount of time to wake-up. So the lag would be annoying if it happened each time the system was idle. With the Haswell chip (as near as I can make out) wake-up is almost instantaneous. So there is no lag going from sleep to running. With no lag then it becomes feasible to put the CPU to sleep sooner and more often.
Again there is nothing I can point you to that states this it's what I've pieced together from various sources. In any case the missing setting in System Preferences is not an error so I guess you'll get to experience fist hand how this all works. Post back with your observations, it will be interesting to hear what you think.
    regards

  • Mac does not sleep after setting Energy Saver settings

Hi, got a slight problem after installing Leopard. The thing is that my Mac seems to ignore the settings specified in Energy Saver Preference Pane, the screen is put to sleep as it should, that's working fine, but the computer does not go to sleep when designated. I can put it to sleep manually (or by using Schedule) but setting an inactivity time doesn't work.
No visible console messages or similar, no external HDDs or other external devices, no bluetooth, no file sharing, no bad apparent application/process running, no spotlight indexing, as you see I have tried a few things to fix the problem...
Any ideas of how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Message was edited by: Chessax

Ok, seems like I fixed the problem, the numerous things I tried must have solved it, probably the SMC or PRAM/NVRAM fixed it, though I'm not sure, but anyway it's working now, so I'm good.
And to asphotos: No I don't have any printer at all, and I don't use airport, not sure what caused the problem really, just appeared after Snow Leopard install... Thanks for the tip though.

  • HT1776 I have no Energy Saver in my MacPro, how can I set it not to sleep in OSX Lion?

I want to be able to remote control my Mac Pro when I travel, But if it sleeps, I can not access it via logmein. I have a Model 1,1 MacPro running OSX Lion.
It has no energy Saver where I can prevent it from sleeping. Is there a way of me remote controlling it if it is asleep or shutdown?

Sorry, but Energy Saver has always been a part of OS X, so if you don't have it then you've deleted it. Try reinstalling OS X. Better yet upgrade OS X to at least Snow Leopard.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • IMac (Mid 2011) screen randomly becomes black, not to do with energy saver. I think it may be to do with hardware.

I have tried SMC, PRAM resetting etc. I've triple checked my energy saver settings, currently they're on:
    Computer Sleep: 1hr
    Display Sleep: 1min
    Wake for network access
Allow power button to put the computer to sleep
And I know full well that its not the 1min display sleep that's doing this.
I've read on other posts that it could be a hardware issue, as in the graphics card is failing. I don't have the money to replace the graphics card, not to mention, this particular model is difficult to open up or customize.
I think I need Apple to give me a replacement LCD or take a look at the hardware. I've only had this computer for 2 yrs and it was bought brand new, so its surprising that this has happened.
In the past I have had other issues like a kernel panic, and to a point, overheating & sluggishness.

If you have AppleCare and the display is indeed failed Apple will replace. If you did not purchase AppleCare then Apple will not replace it for free, that is why AppleCare exists. However I suspect there is a software problem, I'd recommend creating a new user account logging into it and then test, if the problem disappears then you know it's a  software issue in your primary user account. If it does not go away then you only know is a universal issue for your machine. Try creating a new user account and then post the results.
