Energy saver won't work in OSX 10.4.11

I have a Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5.
Energy Saver crashes every time I try to access it in System Preferences even after reinstalling OSX.

Hello, try this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions,  then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
(Then Trash the original of these last two, as "moving" them only copies them.)
Then reboot once more.

  • Isight won't work in OSX, works in boot camp (XP SP3)

    Hi everyone,
Within the last few weeks, my iSight camera stopped working. I went through every troubleshooting step recommended by Apple with no luck. I gave up hope and was ready to take it to the Apple store, but decided to see if it would work in windows... strangely enough it works great, but still won't work in OSX. I'd like to avoid taking it to the store, so any help is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Discussions, bluejayDDS
... I'd like to avoid taking it to the store ...
You can the following three things (listed in order of increasing effort on your part) before seeking professional help:
    (1) Apply the latest (10.5.7) Combo Updater using the following procedure:
     • Backup all your important files.
     • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to Repair disk permissions (different from repairing the "disk").
     • Download and apply the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update.
        http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate
     • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that completes the install.
(Don't worry about corrections if Disk Utility reports that all repairs have been completed.)
     • Launch only the OS X app you are trying to use with iSight and test to see if iSight works correctly.
Using the above process to apply the Combo Updater sometimes solves problems that occur after using your Mac's Software Update... to update Mac OS.
    (2) If your problem still exists, reinstall OS X using the "Archive and Install" options explained here:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be certain that you have backed up all important files before you reinstall OS X.
    (3) If your problem is not resolved by Archive and Install, you can completely Erase and Install all your Mac's software.
Erasing your iMac's hard disk and reinstalling all software as described in the Erase and Install section of http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545 might correct a problem that remains after an Archive and Install.
Erase and Install is a lot of work, but sometimes it is the only way to get rid of something on the disk that is causing problems.
    (4) If none of that works, see your Apple Service Technician for professional help.

  • Lion: energy saver doesn't work!!!

    Hi,
I installed Lion on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro..., don't I feel stupid! I notice the energy saver doesn't work, depite changing the settings. I reinstalled on the iMac, but it made no difference. Has anyone got a solution, yet, or are we waiting for the first update already?
    Wes

I don't know if this is the same problem, but the problem I was having with my Energy Saver was that the "Wake for network access" checkbox would always check its self, even after locking the options.
Looks like the "Find My Mac" option in iCloud kept re-activating it.
Unchecked "FInd my mac" and now everything seems to be working okay in the Engery Saver
    /please don't steal my mac!

  • Epson scanner 2450 won't work in OSX 1.5.2

I am trying to install my epson perfection 2450 scanner on my Mac Pro with OSX 1.5.2 but it won't work.
I was able to install the driver a couple of times but I couldn't get the scanner to show up in the import options in Photoshop as it does in Windows. It worked from its own scan window OK.
I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it a few times to see if it worked but now it doesn't even want to load the basic scan interface.
Also, the Smart panel app that is supposed to enable scanning from within programs like Photoshop or Word doesn't seem to exist.
The drivers at Epson UK are from 2004 and those on the US website are from 2006. The documentation says that it should work in OSX.
Can anyone please advise on what I need to do or if this scanner is able to scan in OSX 1.5.2?
It's a good scanner and I can't afford to go out and buy another one just to for OSX.
    Thanks for any advice.

Hi. I had the same problem with the Epson 2450 using Photoshop CS3. I found this solution. Open Image Capture app and go to the preferences box. Tick the box for Image Capture to open up when scanner is connected. Turn on scanner and it should recognise scanner and open window box. From there you can set your preference and for it to open with Photoshop after scanning. I hope this helps as it has for me.

  • System preferences energy saver isn't working

I've noticed that after installing 10.6.6 that my energy saver preferences are sporadic. I have it set to reduce brightness after 10 minutes and after an hour it still bright. I've dumped com.apple.systempreferences.plist but the problem still exists. I've done the disk utility and even used Cocktail and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Move this file to the Desktop then restore your ES settings. In the HD Library.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
IIRC, you will need to give your admin password.

  • Energy Saver has stopped working

I've been using the Energy Saver preference pane without trouble for a long time. Several versions of OS X ago I stopped allowing the computer or hard disks to sleep because of annoying (and occasionally serious) problems on waking (I'd be glad to know if this was a bug that has been squashed), but I do put my LCD monitor to sleep as per the manufacturer's recommendation.
It has been sleeping the monitor after 10 minutes of inactivity for ages, but just a couple of days ago it stopped working. The only thing I changed just before this was to install X-Plane 8 on my secondary hard disk -- so far as I know this hasn't installed any files in my system or user libraries.
Any suggestions? I've looked through several recent threads in this forum and haven't found a similar issue. I don't have the problems other users have raised.
    TIA, Jeff
    PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   450 MHz upgraded to 1.2 GHz; 1.5 GB RAM; 1 Mb/s

Hello, I have had an experience similar accept that no problem with the Imac G5 going to sleep based on the setting in System Preferences/Energy Saver. The problem I have been having is the machine will not wake from sleep, the scheduled time passes and it never wakes. I initially was having problems with my Intel-Imac, but for whatever reason, a clean install fixed things. In the case of my wife's Imac G5 and our Mini, a clean install did not resolve the problem. I'm beginning to wonder if it has anything to do with the firmware.
I'm sorry I can't offer any further advice, but you are not the only one having sleep/wake issues with the Mac. I hope Apple will offer a fix for us all.

  • Energy Saver won't load through System Prefs

I recently upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4 and for some reason the Energy Saver icon will not load in System Prefs. so I can adjust my Sleep timer. I have restarted several times and all of the other Prefs load correctly. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Energy Saver won't open in System Preferences

I finally upgraded to Tiger (10.4.11). I want to change my energy saving preferences...specifically to keep my HD from going to sleep (because Tiger decided to override my original settings during install). The problem is that when I choose Energy Saver, I'm informed that 'Energy Saver is loading...', but it never does. The EnergySaver.prefPane file is in its correct location (System>Library>PreferencePanes). 'Get Info' tells me that it's configured to be opened by System Preferences.app. So what the #$@$# is keeping Energy Saver from opening? Not liking Tiger right now.

  • Energy Saver panel not working-Mac drive keeps powering up

I have a 17 inch "Lampshade" iMac running 10.2.8. I have set the preferences in the Energy Saver panel to put the computer to sleep after about 15 minutes and to put the hard drive to sleep when possible. But it never happens. I'm sitting in the room with the computer now and about every 5 minutes I can hear the hard drive spin up for about 30 seconds, then it stops. When the drive is not spinning, I can still hear the computer is on. What exactly is sleep mode, for both the computer and the drive, and should the hard drive periodically start up when it should be sleeping? If not, how do I get my machine to really sleep? Thanks for the help.

Hi! HERE is some info on sleep. Putting the hard drive to sleep is really something I avoid. It will last just as long by never letting it spin down and the computer will come back to life faster. i would let the display sleep but only after 30 minutes or so or even 15 if I consistently left for long periods. The life of a hard drive now days is usually given in start/stop cycles which is more hard on one than running it 24/7/365. I run all my stuff 24/7/365 except for the monitors which I let sleep after 30 minutes idle. Tom

  • Any reason why Quicken 2003 won't work on OSX 10.4?

I need to install some version of Quicken on my mini, but don't want to purchase Quicken until they produce an Intel version. I just use it for checking. Am considering buying Quicken 2003 for mac on ebay. Will this work with OSX 10.4? Thanks,
    Owen

    Kappy,
I marker this response as solved because I thought that what you said was correct. I just looked at the Quicken Support:
    https://quicken.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/quicken.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=4014&p_created=1137099411&p_sid=9RFCSgti&p_accessibility=0&p_lva =3793&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSZwX3Byb2RzP Tk1LDU1MSZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9Mi41NTEmcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1pbnRlb A**&p_li=&ptopview=1
    This is what it says:
"Quicken for Mac is not a universal binary program and will not run natively on an Intel based Mac. All Intel based Macs come equipped with Rosetta software that enables non-universal binary programs to run on Intel Macs. There are no known issues specific to using Quicken 2006 and later on an Intel Mac with Rosetta."
What is the source of your info? Thanks,

  • HT202879 iWorks '09 won't work on OSX 10.8.5, even after the update.

Recently, I updated my MBP to OSX 10.8.5, Mountain Lion, and none of the iWorks '09 applications will open, e.g. Keynote, Numbers, Pages.  I used a an iWorks '09 version that I had on my iMac, OSX 10.6.8, Snow Leopard.  After migrating the software from my iMac onto the MBP, I ran the update right away.  It is now updated to 4.3, the latest version.  However, I am getting the same error I got before running the iWorks update.  The error reads as follows:
Keynote (or any of the other iWorks applications) cannot be opened because of a problem.  Check with the developer to make sure (Keynote) works with the version of OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates from the application and OSX.  Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iWorks '09 several times, but to no avail.  I have also read other Apple forum postings about the subject, but none of them seem very clear on how to fix the problem.  Is there anyone, who could help me with this?
    Thank you in advance!

    Donkey,
I think you may be leaving out some details that would be helpful in determining what has gone wrong.
iWork apps seem to prefer being reinstalled from the original media when being put on a new computer, rather than using migration tools or simply copying them to the new machine.
Apple applications are updated via Software Update, and if version the only problem that may fix it.

  • HP Scan 3 won't work with OSX 10.9.2

I have an HP Deskjet 3050A All-In-One and recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.2   Printer will print but scanner will not, error message about "checking with developer for compatiblity with OS" upon attempting to open.  Latest printer scanner software listed in Apple Support for Print/Scan is Version 2.3.1 which is what I have.
    I have run softwre updates.
    Anyone have a solution?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @RoscoeSweeny
There is no full feature software and driver available from HP, but the OS X v10.9 Mavericks driver for your printer is available through Apple Software Update (ASU).
With this driver you can still print and scan, you just wont have HP software to scan from. Scanning to the computer from the printer control panel is only available when using HP Scan software, thus it will not work because there is no HP scan software as apart of the Apple Software Update driver.
    Instead, you can scan using,
Method one: Scan from the Print & Scan window
Method two: Scan from Apple Preview
Method three: Scan from Apple Image Capture
I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions are have any difficulty using any of these methods, please let me know what method you are trying and what the issue/error is. • DVD player won't work on OSX 10.9.1

When I loaded OS X 10.9.1, I am now unable to play videos on my MacBook Pro.  Is there any updates so I can get it to work?

I upgraded to OSX Mavericks (10.9.1) on my MacBook Pro last Wednesday, January 8th, and since then I am also having the same issue with my DVD player not working since the upgrade.  There are no error messages, the drive just kicks out the DVD. CD's work fine, though.  And yes, I have checked my settings in the System Preferences and they are all set correctly.
Any help would be appreciated, but I may just end up taking my laptop to the Apple Store geniuses to see if they can sort it out...

  • Acer LCD screen won't work with osx?

I've just bought an Acer H243H LCD screen, and when i plug it in via HDMI, I get a 'no signal' message... Granted, I should have checked for compatibility before buying it, but my macbook plugs into out LCD tv via HDMI with no worries... Acer don't provide an osx driver, so I'm wondering of theres a genius out there who can help me make this work... It's such a pretty monitor, it'd be a shame to throw it out... Your help would be much appreciated.
    Jake

Try connecting to the DVI port instead of the HDMI port. The Acer may not have a plug-and-display driver behind its HDMI port.

  • Acrobat Standard 6 won't work with OSX Lion

I just downloaded OSX Lion and my Acrobat Standard 6 no longer works.  What to do now?  I hadn't upgraded along the way, so how can I know get an application to create pdf files on my Mac?

Acrobat 6 Standard or deluxe are PowerPC Programs. They've been runing in an emulation mode called Rosetta since OSX.6  OSX.7 Lion is pure Intel only. and Rosetta has been discontinued.
If you need PowerPC applications You are either going to have to revert back to Snow Leopard. Or buy you an external Drive install OSX 6 or lower on it and run your PowerPC apps from there.
You may discover many of the applications you depend upon if you haven't kept them upgraded have quit work as well. You can do about the same thing with standard in The Mac Directly. Standard didn't have Forms capability.
Just go to Print Menu click on PDF and choose desired PDF.  I would suggest though If you seriously want to have PDF and Forms Capability to Upgrade to AcrobatX. There is so much more you can do with PDF's than with 6 Standard.
