Energy System Preferences NOT SAVING...

I'm trying to set my computer to wake at a certain time. i've checked the box and entered the time/date i want the computer to start up in system settings, then LOCK the changes.
when i go back to system settings a few seconds later, my settings are not saved and the lock is UNLOCKED (without me having to unlock it, enter my admin info, yada, yada, yada).
what gives?

If Carolyn's suggetion doesn't work...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then Trash these 2 files...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Reboot & set it up again.

  • Energy Saver Preferences not saving

    Hello!
The title of the question says it all.  No matter what I select in "energy saver" preferences, the settings are *not* being saved, and revert to putting the computer to sleep after 10 minutes (?!) and the display to sleep after 5 minutes. (These settings are useless for my usage.)
I have Googled the problem, and even searched this forum. I have tried everything people have suggested, and still the settings don't save.
I've moved the .plist file out of the folder.
    I've deleted the .plist file
I've even changed the file permissions to "read-only" for System, Wheel and Everyone.
Still the settings revert.. What could possibly be interfering with my settings? I only install software from the AppStore and an occasional game from "BigFish Games" game manager, I have never installed anything like "CleanMyMac" or anything like that.
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated!
    Thanks!

    OK!
I upgraded to Yosemite today, and am enjoying the update so far.
However, with regards to this thread, the problem persists. Every single time I restart, the energy settings revert to putting the computer to sleep after 10 minutes and the display to sleep after 5 minutes..
Ridiculous!! A whole version upgrade and this simple little problem remains unfixed. Sigh.  Maybe on my next day off I'll take the time to totally erase & reinstall Yosemite -- maybe then it'll finally work as it's supposed to.

  • System preferences not saving

Every time I log out, any system preferences I had set up are not saving. Such as what should boot up in the dock or what programs should be in the system bar or the settings for the keyboard and mouse.
Thanks for any guidance on this issue.

    i did the:
    chmod -RN ~/Library/Preferences
workks great and now my preferences are saving, but my MAIL preferences not, at least i fix one problem.
    i found this:
    " WillytheKidd
what I did or seem to have found is that if I do a clean install of Lion and do not use the Snow Leopard preferences from the Time Machine Backup I have I do not have a problem.  I have tried several ways to fix this and the only thing that worked for ME is a complete clean install OS and apps. "
I used the preferences from my TM, maybe thats the problem.

  • System Preferences Not Saved After Restart MBP 10.6.8

    Hi Everyone,
I've had a difficult time finding an answer to this question / problem that I can understand, and I'm hoping someone can help me. (The IT department where I work has not been able to help.)
Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default.
It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. I'll try whatever I need to.

    Hello JK,
If you used Mac's automatic Software Update... to get to 10.5.1, try this:
    • Repair permissions.
    • Download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update.
    • Repair permissions again after the restart that completes the install.
    • Test to see if problem is still there.
If problem exists, try suggestions relevant to your system from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

    Hi,

Is there any enhancement or sap note to solve this isssue?
    Regards,
    Madhu.

    Hi,
please follow the process as told u will not have any errors.
    1. create import PO with all the duties. But here there are some duties which are supposed to be paid to the customs. so we select the condition type and click on conditiondetail icon and here we enter the Customs vendor number and save the PO.
    2. if release of PO is there release
    3. then invoice is made with customs vendor by selecting planned delivery costs in the options on the right of the screen... The number generated here will be ur Commercial invoice number which you enter while doing J1IEX_C and GR
    4.Then capture excise invoice J1IEX_C
    5. Then do a GR with PO
    6. Then post excise invoice J1IEX_P
    7. Then again do a envoice with the same PO number but select Goods/Service Items on the right.

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • PMU Reset and System Preferences not Responding-Always 1969

Hi, I am having a problem that I have not been able to match up on forums (mostly because it's sort of hard for me to pinpoint a short way of typing it up).
I have had a problem before, with my PB not responding (to turning on after turning itself off), so I was familiar this morning when I found myself having to unplug the power adapter, unlatch the battery, holding the Power button for 5 seconds, plugging in the power and locking in the battery and finally Power again to reviving my Powerbook G4.
As usual, after startup, the date has been changed to December 1 1969 so if not changed, the computer may act erratically. My problem this particular time is that I cannot change the date or time! I can't even open System preferences, or use Get Info on my desktop icon of my computer's harddrive. It acts as if it's not responding, holding down my pointer on the System Preferences in the dock gives me the Options such as start on login, hide, Force Quit but when I go to click Force Quit, it does nothing. I cannot use Command-Option-Esc to open the Force Quit window. I click on the Apple pulldown tab at the top left of my screen and Force Quit does not respond there as well. THIS IS SO UNUSUAL TO ME and I am at a total loss at how to get things running smoothly again. I have restarted my powerbook a couple times (but only able to do this by holding down Power for a few seconds, again the Apple pulldown bar then Restart does nothing) but nothing changes the not responding System Preferences.
Any help would be greatly appreciated or even a hint at how to search this problem, narrow it down to a few words, searching 'System Preferences not responding or freezing' hasn't given me any similar troubleshooting results.
    Thank you in advance

    laurenlovescomputers,
    reset the PMU again.

  • System Preferences not responding when opening desktop

After installing Lion 10.7, I find that whenever I try to change the desktop wallpaper in system preferences, it freezes and I have to force quit it.
I tried to find the systempreferences.plist, as seen from google searches, but I can't find it anywhere, and those seem to be solutions for SL, L or Tiger.
    Help appreciated.
    Thanks!

I've been having the same issue with system preferences in osx lion freezing and not doing anything for the past week.  Your post solved the problem; all I had to do was move the iphoto library and the photo booth library to the desktop, then I moved them back to my pictures folder in the finder window.  Now system preferences works like a charm, even if I restart the system the system preferences utilities are all accessible.
This solved the problem; whereas other posts that had me use disk utility to repair the hard drive or repair the disk permissions didn't solve the issue.
This now saves me a call to apple tech support
    Thank you.

It has to do with a problem accessing the images on the home>images folder. To solve it, just move its content (iphoto library included) to another place. Then, restart System Preferences. Moving your iPhoto library to another location seems to fix the problem. I am sure Apple will issue an update to correct this problem. But, for now this seems to work for me.

  • System Preferences not being saved

I've set up Hot Corners with a modifier key, because my mouse cursor occasionally jumps around and ends up in the screen corners, where it would activate hot corners. However, suddenly yesterday (I think), the modifier key isn't being saved. The corner assignments are still the way they were. But the modifier key setting isn't "saved". I tried re-enabling the key settings. I'd click okay in the drop-down sheet, and then when I clicked the Hot Corners button again, the settings were there. Then, only a few hours later, the settings would be gone. It doesn't happen immediately.
In addition, I was on YouTube, and no matter where I clicked on the Mighty Mouse (now the Apple Mouse, I suppose) I get the right click menu. But where ever else I clicked on the page using the same location on the mouse, it was a normal left-click. When I disabled the secondary button in System Preferences (or rather, set both buttons as a primary button) it worked. But then the setting changed itself back to Secondary Button. What's going on?

Repair permissions and try deleting the com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.

  • Microphone "Input Volume" Setting In "System Preferences" Not Being Saved.

    Hello,
While using iChat for the first time, I was experiencing an echo sound. I went into System Preferences > Sound > Input, and changed my "Input Volume" slider from the default 71% down to 25%. This solved the echo problem.
The "Input Volume" will stay at my setting of 25% during this iChat session, and also upon quitting iChat. However, when I start a new iChat session, the "Input Volume" slider returns back to the default 71%.
How can I get the "Input Volume" slider to stay at my desired setting of 25% upon starting a new iChat session?
    Thanks In Advance... Dean
