Enermax EG475P-VE SFMA Psu question

i have a question about the enermax EG475P-VE SFMA psu.  i have been reading about psu's in this forum and have found my self with the same power issues that other people have been having.  so im looking for a psu and i was wonderinb about this enermax.  people here have said that the 12 v rail needs at least 25 amps for the system + any future upgrades.  well, this psu has 2 12v rails, 1 for the mb/cpu and the other for whatever else needs it.  the 12V1 rail has 16A and the 12v2 rail has 15A.  so do these combine for 31A?  would the 16A be enough for the CPU/mobo??  they say they do this to provide clean power to the cpu/mobo.  the psu is rated at 470W.  any other recomendations for about 80-90 dollar range??
thanks a bunch in advance

    Ruud00,
That Power Supply is getting a little small for today's performance comps.
I think it should power your current comp but leaves little room for future upgrades.
    Take Care,

  • Another psu question

Okey. I need to know if my psu is good enough for geforce 4 ti 4200.
My current psu is Q-Tec psu 450W Dual Fan Gold (http://www.qtec.info/products/product.htm?artnr=13024)
    And the specs are:
    Output | Peak | Max
    +3.3v   |  28a  |  18a
    +5v      |  35a  |  25a
and no talk about combined on the psu. So dont ask.

I did some research and oh my those psus are expencive over here where I live. The only reasonable psu that i could find costs 75€. It is Enermax EG365P-VE FCA. http://www.enermax.com.tw/product-01.htm Lots of details about it in there (which I cant understand). Will it be good enough?

  • K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI and PSU Question

    Hi
I have read a lot in these forums about the issues arose with the K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI  board and the PSUs most of the users have.
Because I am going to buy the specific board i would like your opinion about the SilentPurePower 560W PSu of ThermalTake.
It gives 22A on 12V trail and it comes with a 20 to 24 pin adapter for Server motherboards use.
In addition I am going to use 2 sata Hds as raid and 2 DVD drives( one of them DVD-R) and the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Zs.(Of course the onboard  soundcard will be disabled).
Do you think that the PSU will be adequate?
    Thanks for your help

Thanks for your reply blazing storm but  many people here talk all about a "safe minimum of 24A on the 12V trail".
But if i sum up all my power requirements( dvds , processor:AMD 64 3500+ , HDDs etc) i come up with 18 or 19A.
After all the MSI itself suggest for it's K8n Platinum NF4U SLI at least 450W and greater than 18A on 12V trail so I suppose that it wiil be ok.
Maybe 24A it is proper for future upgrades.

  • Quick MSI Platinum 975x PSU Question

I have a OCZ GameXstream 600watt PSU and it has two 4-pin CPU cables titled CPU1 and CPU2. I noticed on this motherboard there are 2 four pin CPU inputs and one of them has peg over it that can be removed. Should I remove the 2nd peg and plug in both cables or just use the one with CPU1? Thanks in advance!

Treebeard, you just need to utilize either CPU1 or CPU2. The 4-pin CPU input is sufficient. CPU1 give 4-pin; CPU2 give another 4-pin. Adding them up = 8-pin for Extreme Edition CPUs. Depends on what CPU you have, if you have Pentium D Presler > 3.2Ghz, it's better to use 8-pin. Below that, 4-pin is just fine.

  • PSU Question on an MSI K8N Neo4 Plat

I ordered an Antec TruePower 430W for this system.  The manual says that it has a 20-pin connector for the main MB power connector.
Will I be able to use this PSU?
Will I have to get a converter piece for it?

    Quote from: jrb357 on 25-March-05, 14:30:21
Well if your True 430 is of the newer vers. with 26a on the +12v you should be just fine. I'm running one and things seem stable for the most part, other then that 220fsb OC issue with the Neo4 and Winnie's, but it OC's 270fsb x9 totally stable with Clockgen and with a 10% OC on the vid card scores a 4100 in 3DMark 2005. It has a minor studdering in some 3D games, that makes me wonder if a psu with the 24pin connector would help stablize it in 3D games just alittle. So i'd say if you already own the psu go ahead and use it, but if you're looking for a new one I'd think about a different psu that has the 24pin mobo connection with a minimum of 480w and 28a/+12v.
I would prefer to get the 1 gig of dual channel RAM first. BUT... if it is really needed I will get the power supply first. My Antec TruePower is maybe at least two or three years old.

  • PSU Question

I've read a lot in the forum about weak power supplies causing a lot of problems.  I honestly don't know too much about PSUs, but this is what I have:
    AHEAD Model SH-350 Version 2.03
    350W Max
    3.3V @ 28A
    5V @ 32A
    Combined 220W
Can somebody tell me if this is sufficient or any good?  If not, any suggestions on a new one?
BTW, I've also had problems with certain games (WC3, The Sims, etc) crashing to the desktop.  At the time of the problems I was running this:
    Asus A7A266 MoBo
    1.4 Athlon
    256MB DDR PC2100
    5400RPM 30Gig
    DVD-Rom
    CD-RW
    Sound Blaster Live! Value
Radeon VE 32MB (don't worry, my TI4200 will arrive tomorrow)
    Win98 SE
Under those conditions, do you think my power supply was the problem?
I am currently doing some upgrades:
    120GB Maxtor 7200 8MB HDD
    additional 256 DDR PC2100
    48X CD-RW
    MSI GF4 TI-4200 TD8X-64
    WinXP Pro
Hopefully these upgrades will solve my crashing problem.  But does anyone see a potential problem with my PSU after those upgrades?
Thank you for all your help!

I do not have a link to the maker.  I purchased my computer from CyberPower Inc. with a 350W PSU...I did not have the option of choosing a brand.
But I take it that brand is important?

  • Big Bang Xpower PSU question

I have a Corsair 750W PSU which only has one 8pin connector for the board. There are 2 of them on the board, is it ok to only have 1 of them plugged in? Will I still be able to overclock using the OC genie? If i can get around 3.2ghz with my i7920 that will keep me happy for now until I can throw down on a 1000w psu.
    MSI big bang Xpower
    i7920
    Kingston HyperX DDR3 pc2000
    GTX 480
    Corsair 750w PSU
    Corsair H50 CPU cooler

As HU16E states and the manual shows when you intend to use OC Genie Cell Menu settings must be at factory defaults, the only thing you should change is Spread Spectrum to 'disable'. Best thing to do if you intend to use OC Genie would be to clear CMOS prior to using it. Better is to disable it and manually OC anyway since you can get a pretty good OC with very little trouble on the ix MB's leaving most settings on auto.
Corsair TX750  is probably more power than you would ever need, buying a more powerful PSU just to have a power connector you don't need is certainly a waste of money.

  • HELP ! System freezes now with new MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP

Any/All help is greatly appreciated... this is driving me crazy.
Just installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP card.  Windows/Apps work fine.. but system keeps freezing (disabling keyboard as well) when running certain games (3D?) like Medal of Honor, Prince of Perisa, SplinterCell.  Also, freezes on 3DMark01SE benchmark software.  What strange is 3DMark2K5 ran fine.. and returned a respectable score (3078).   I've tried unistalling/re-installing latest MSI drivers (71.22), Nvidia's 66.93, and removing nVidia's GART drivers.  I've also disconnected other hardware to allieviate PSU constraints.  I've uninstalled/re-installed 6600GT card and molex power connector on card.  My system specs are below:
    Motherboard = ASUS Focus A7N8X-LA, BIOS=American Megatrend 3.07, Chipset = nVidia nForce2
    MSI GeForce 6600GT 128 AGP
    1Gb Ram
    200Gb Maxtor  8mb buffer HD
    ASUS E616P1  DVD-ROM
    RICOH  MP5240A  DVD+RW
Enermax EG375P-VE SFMA PSU  (has separate 12V rails)
Any suggestions as to what else to try?  Getting ready to RMA this card.

    Question
    I just got a K8 series MB , and your A6600GT 128MB VGA , every time when I quit the 3D games ,
the system gave me a blue screen and then restart the system. I already update the VGA driver and MB
driver but no luck , what can I do?
    Answer
If your system are WinXP + SP2 , We suggest you to disable DEP function.
Please follow below steps to disable the DEP. (See below picture)
    1. First , Select “Advanced” under “System Properties”
    2. Choose “Settings” under “Startup and Recovery”
    3. Click “ Edit “ , then you can edit “boot.ini” file.
    4. Change “/NoExecute=OptIn” as “/execute” (See below red square in step4)
    5. Then save the boot.ini file and restart the system.
    6. After rebooting , the DEP function will be disable.

    configuration dialog.
    • /NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT Enables DEP for all images except those specified in the DEP
    configuration dialog.
    • /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSON Enables DEP on all images.
    • /NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF Disables DEP.
    Configuration Description
    OptIn
    (default configuration)
On systems with processors capable of hardware-enforced DEP, DEP is
enabled by default for limited system binaries and applications that
    “opt-in,”
With this option, only Windows system binaries are covered by DEP by
    default.
OptOut DEP is enabled by default for all processes. Users can manually create
a list of specific applications which do not have DEP applied using
System in Control Panel. IT Pros and Independent Software Vendors
(ISVs) can use the Application Compatibility Toolkit to opt-out one or
more applications from DEP protection. System Compatibility Fixes
(“shims”) for DEP do take effect.
AlwaysOn This provides full DEP coverage for the entire system. All processes
always run with DEP applied. The exceptions list for exempting
specific applications from DEP protection is not available. System
Compatibility Fixes (“shims”) for DEP do not take effect. Applications
which have been opted-out using the Application Compatibility Toolkit
    run with DEP applied.
AlwaysOff This does not provide any DEP coverage for any part of the system,
regardless of hardware DEP support. The processor does not run in
PAE mode unless the /PAE option is present in the boot entry.
Yes let us know how it goes. Hopefully well.

  • Hats off to the SP-94..

I know most of you guys have heard great things about the SP-94, but I thought I could add my experience with this heatsink from Thermalright. Firstly, this heatsink is probably the best looking piece of copper you can hope to find...great build, quality finish. No need to lapp with grit.
I used the SP-94 with Artic Silver 5 and a Vantec Tornado (by far THE loudest fan I have ever heard...can put a few hair driers to shame too).
The results were impressive to say the least. Under the torture test in Prime95 (which I ran for 6 hours) the CPU temp was reported as 53 degrees (speedfan), compared to 65 degrees with the stock Intel HSF. And 37 degrees with the side panel removed. (Ambient temperatures where I live is about 32 degrees.) Now if this aint impressive, I dont know what is.
I would seriously recomend this Heatsink to anyone who is looking for an Air based cooling solution for their CPU.

Speaking of which, have you guys (the devs) ever thought of setting up an amazon wish list?  It might seem like a weird question, but there are a lot of people who don't have credit cards who do have amazon bux out there, people in the under-20 agegroup especially.  There's also the whole "Gee, $20 seems kind of stingy, but I can't afford $100.  Hmmm, maybe next month." thing that goes on.  With an amazon wish list, at least you might get books and CDs.  Right now, even though the spice is flowing, it doesn't really seem like the cash donations are -- at least if the donations page is any indication.  I hope I'm wrong.

  • Hows this for a PS

currently using the apsire 520 watt, but since i added,
    audigy 2 zs
    another 120 gig hd,
and leadtek tv tuner card, my 12 volt rail went down to 11.90, and now i cant use my other stick of mushkin pc 3500 lv2  512 mb, and i miss having 1 gig of memory to play with,
I see that enermax is a good ps. will this Enermax EG475P-VE-SFMA Noisetaker 470W Power Supplier bring the volts back up on so i can use my other stick of 512 ram?

Actually, 11.90 falls well within the +or- variance of 5% of the 12v. But, I personally like the Enermax myself (not the noisetaker) version. Just make sure you got 25 or more amps on the 12v and that it is a single 12v rail.

  • How long do I run Prime95??

Just installed my SP94 and the terribly noisy Vantec Tornado (Aarghhhhh..56 db). Want to run the torture test on it to see if the upgrade from stock and the terrible noise is worth it.....(Used to get 65 degrees under full load after running Prime95 Priority 10 for six hours with my stock HSF, with Speedfan). umm, wouldnt 6 hours be the likely choice? considering you want to see the difference of installing a new heatsink - provided you havent changed the voltages or anything else  and you know that after 6 hours it ran at 65 with the stock.............

  • Do I REALLY NEED such a powerful PSU???

    Guys,
My problem is on the thread ("Daily Crashing - Total Hardware Shutdown"):
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=48219&sid=
I appreciate all your advice about upgrading from my Nexus NX-3500 PSU .... I had previously written 350W with 18A on the 12V rail .... actually upon closer inspection the specs are 330W with 16A on the 12V rail.  Ok, I know this is not powerful enough, but as I said, I'm going to be using this PC for music recording, using very sensitive condenser microphones, and the PSUs recomended (Enermax 465 etc) really seem too loud.... the Enermax, for example, has a *minimum* load noise level of around 39dB(A)!  That might not interfere with the needs of a gamer or office worker, but it's really just too loud for use with recording.... once you get that unwanted noise recorded in audio, it's virtually impossible to remove it.
It's been possible to build totally silent pc systems, using this same PSU, with Athlon XP CPUs.  I understand now that the A64 (and the MSI board it seems) needs a lot of power, but the figures that have been suggested to me (450W-550W) seem very heavy.  Reasons for thinking so:
MESH (http://www.meshcomputers.com) is perhaps the largest UK PC retailer and regularly wins awards for reliability etc etc from all the top UK PC magazines.  They allow you to configure an Athlon 64 system with the follwing spec:
    * ATX tower
    * A64 3000+, 32000+, 34000+ and the A64FX versions
    * 2 SATA Hard Drives in Raid
    * up to 1GB RAM
    * TOP graphics cards (I mean the ones costing hundreds of pounds ... mine is bottom-end and should require a lot less power than these)
    * DVDRW
    * 2nd Optical Drive
    * Floppy
    ***** PSU 360W *****
Now, they also offer extensive warranties with these systems.  My question is, would they offer this much power in a PC, with a full warranty, and be rated at the top of PC retailers in the UK, if their 360W PSU was not sufficient?  Now, my PC is LESS POWERFUL than the ones listed above, so why do I need to get a PSU thats so much more powerful?  Incidentally, they use the ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard with the A64 systems ... does this board handle power better than my MSI KT8 NEO?... allowing you to use smaller PSUs?
Furthermore, if you look at MESH's Shuttle-case (v.v.small) versions of the Athlon64 system ... they supply it with a 240W PSU!
Finally, if you look at Sound On Sound magazine (which any of you remotely involved in music production will know) ... this month they did a review of silent PSUs .. and said that owners of 3GHz or faster CPUs, with 2 Hard Drives and 1GB of RAM, would probably be best served with 400W PSUs.  The 500W etc PSUs were recommended for dual-cpu systems or those with multiple DSP cards.
I won't be playing games on this machine, or watching movies (which is why I just went for the bottom model GeForce graphics card FX5200 ... it doesn't even have a fan, so it shouldn't take up that much power).  A lot of you guys seem to have top-end graphics cards, and 3 or more hard disks, as well as faster CPUs than mine, so you should need more power than me.  In light of this, and bearing in mind that I really do need a very quiet PSU ... can you recommend something?  Will 400W really not be enough?
Silenx and Seasonic make 400W PSUs with 22A on the 12V rail.  Is this not sufficient?  The Silenx is supposed to work at 14dB(A) ... load is not specified.
Please advise ... any comments much appreciated as really need to get this sorted fast.

Some reviews say there was not enough +12V power leads. Even when they purchased a Y-Splitter, the Enermax power supply did not have enough power, which does not sound so good for me. Besides the color, what is the difference between the VE(FM), VE-SFMA, VE(FC), VE 24P, VE(FCA)??? I went to Enermax's website and looked under power supplies and I could not find anything on those EG465P models (must be old models). Which EG465P power supply do you have Jocko? And which one do you recommend from the list above? Thanks.
    Hi Exion,
Yes the first one looks OK, as long as it has a 4 pin square connector for Mobo, and an independant 4 pin Molex for Vid card. Don't see connectors listed.
The second one is the one that SAB had I think, the 12v rail is split into 2 rails, not so good.  The others, if its a bad review, leave it.
As long as its at least a 465 enermax with 33amps on the 12v, a square  4 pin connector, and an independant line for vid card ( I think latest ones may have 2 independant 12v lines) then you can't go wrong.
    cheers

  • Enermax Noisetaker ATX power connector and MSI Neo 2 Platinum?

A question. I haven't even setup my system yet but...
My Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA noisetaker PSU has a 24 pin power jack. 4 of the 20 pins separates from the remaining 20 and the 20 pin connector fits into the motherboard. Those 4 that were "connected" to the other 20 don't correspond with what plugs into the motherboard near the CPU. Another 4 pin lead that fits. Is this correct? Looking at the Enermax owners manual it appears to be right.
What are the other 4 connectors on the 24 pin power lead for anyways?
