Enermax Noisetaker ATX power connector and MSI Neo 2 Platinum?

A question. I haven't even setup my system yet but...
My Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA noisetaker PSU has a 24 pin power jack. 4 of the 20 pins separates from the remaining 20 and the 20 pin connector fits into the motherboard. Those 4 that were "connected" to the other 20 don't correspond with what plugs into the motherboard near the CPU. Another 4 pin lead that fits. Is this correct? Looking at the Enermax owners manual it appears to be right.
What are the other 4 connectors on the 24 pin power lead for anyways?

I have an EPS Enermax PSU too, same boat as you, my 24pin splits into a 20pin and a 4pin (where the 4pin split is useless).
Goodluck.
All the NF4 boards are using the 24-pin ATX interface.  That extra 4-pin split isn't useless--it allows you to use that psu in these boards.

  • Quick question on 8-pin ATX Power Connectors

First, I am very VERY new at building systems.  I was building a Athlon 3800+ X2 system with a MSI RD480 Neo2-FI motherboard and ran into a 8-pin ATX Power connector.  Unfortunately, the 450 Watt PSU that came with my Antec Sonata II does not have that  plug.  The Computer Renassaince guy told me to just plug the 4-pin into the mobo and it would work (personally, I think he is nuts).   Question, is he right?  If not do I have to buy a new PSU or can I use some type of adapter?
Again, realize I am very new at this.  Thanks in advance.

You mean that there is a 8 pin connector on the mainboard is for cpu power supply and your own power supply doesn't have such a relevant
connector. If in that case, then the guy who told you to use the 4 pin connector is right, most of the time, it would work. You don't need to buy another power supply. Please firstly have a try.

  • HPE-210f, one 4-pin ATX power connector support USB card ?

For my Pavilion Elite HPE-210f, Product # BK169AA#ABA, HP support, Motherboard Specifications, H-RS880-uATX (Aloe), shows my PC as offering "one 4-pin ATX power connector."
Does that "ATX power connector" meet the requirement for a "5V 4 pin connector" to power a USB 3.0, 4-port, PCI-E Express Card that I wish to install?  With no free PCI Express x16 slot, I can't mount a GigaBit Ethernet card, so the USB 3 card seems helpful, apparently faster anyway, for connecting to the SS-USB port on my Gigabit switch.
How do we decode/understand the P-codes (ergo, P3, P5, I think I recall) on the power connectors on cables from the power supply?
Also, the PC board specs promise "Three PCI-Express x1 (Gen 2.0)," and "One PCI Express x1 minicard socket (Gen 2.0)."  I cannot identify the minicard socket, but I do see three identical PCI-Express x1slots, with only one occupied, so the slot requirement looks fulfilled.
Power cable OK?  Comments, advice? Thanks!

No, the 4-pin ATX power connector is for the motherboard.  If you have a link to the USB card, send it. Some use a 4 pin peripheral (molex) , some use a 15 pin Sata power lead.
I am sending this link. It explains all the various connectors of the typical PSU.

  • Weird problem with power shut down msi nforce 4 platinum

recently i have flashed the latest bios 1.9 of msi nforce 4 u platinum, everything work fine untill yesterday.some stanges happened......
my power doesnt have a on and off button on it ,every time i turn off the pc , i have to turn off the power button of a socket near by the pc.everytime it works fine, but yesterday when i turn on the power on button of that socket , the pc automatic start, i didint turn on the power button of pc, what a weird problem..   also when i  go into os , the system time also changed, although i can turn them back to correct one in bios and os, but when i turn the pc off , it changed again...   could any one help me out , what is teh real problem of my pc. some virus ?thanks a lot.
weird problem with power shut down  msi nforce 4 platinum

it seems the first question has been solved. cos today when i turn on pc, the oc set up is gone ,in bios, it back to the original set up.i cant save my oc setup, so it definitely a battery problem!!!!!!!!!!!
i take the old battery t o a saler , there they massure it with voltmeter, it shows only 0.97v, but in bios 1.6 it shows 1.82v, so waht is the real meaning of that reading num in bios for battery?it cant be the real voltage of the battery. i buy a new one ,this one is maxcell 2032   hitachi, the old one is shi  t   panansonic 2032 .the new one shows 3.17v with voltmeter, then i come back , installed the  new battery , in bios this time it shows 2.3v in bios 1.6. so the reading num in bios for battery is definitely is not a real reading for your battery.
i will keep my pc in 24/7 using , and i will look if the battery is sable or not , cos untilll now no one come out for a real explain for this  stupid battery problem of msi nofroce 4 platinum.i dont want change battery every 2 or 3month, what a real sick of this!!!!

MSI Neo 2 platinum with San Diego or Venice

Here are my results with my Neo2/3000+ Venice:
I use different apps to OC in Windows after booting with safe settings that I know work. That way if I use an app and push to far, the PC will reset with safe BIOS settings. The key for getting more vcore is to not set the first setting at anything higher than 1.45v. Setting anything after that will only result in it reading as 1.45v - as in your example, where you are setting 1.55v+10% and it only reads 1.59v...That is the same as 1.45v+10%.
What you'll need to do is install Core Center. Once installed go to Start/All Programs/Start Up, and delete it from there. That will keep it from starting everytime you restart the PC, and only run when you click on the icon. Next, boot at the highest vcore you need to, or 1.45v+10% if you need all 1.59v. Once Windows has loaded open Core Center and use the voltage options there to bump it up slowly. Both my brother and I have Neo2's and I can get 1.725v, while he can get 1.78v to work, all on BIOS v1.A...Hope this helps, good luck.
Also, if you don't have them, programs like Core Center, the A64 Tweaker, and Clock Gen are very handy and work really well when OCing. Be careful and have fun!

  • MSI Neo 2 platinum with San Diego or Venice

    Hey guys,
How do you guys get high clocks (2.8ghz +) using any of the bioses for MSI neo 2 platinum EXCEPT for 1.36b for Venice or san diego?.. For all the other bioses, the max vcore is 1.55V + 10%. But even at this limit, the vcore for me is only ~1.59V as detected by the bios, MBM, CPUZ and core center. So i dont know how to give my CPU more juice without using 1.36.. I dont want to use 1.36 because it doesnt support my memory controller and my computer is unstable. I want to use a newer bios that supports san diego's, but i also want high vcore to keep my computer stable at 2.9Ghz. I have used 2.9Ghz before using 1.36 bios but i need 1.4 + 15% vcore (CPUZ and MBM report 1.62V). This was stable using prime 95 for 24hours.... ne suggestions? thanks

  • 12v ATX Power Connector

Ive just modded my new power supply to fit my bespoke case, but the ATX 12v power connector(4pin) has a fault.
when connected it causes nasty noices through the speaker system like its got a break in the wires from the PSU to the connector on the board.
    The question is......
I havent got it connect at the mo, the pc is running ok so do i need to use it??????

    the 20 pin atx has 5x 5v feeds but only 1x 12v
this is because in the past 5v feed the vga card and the cpu
now modern vga cards lie yours feed of the 12v as does the cpu
now a pin on the atx moules i rated to 6a max giving 72 watts max
many amd cpu pull that on their own
this is why these and other boards have the extra 2x 12v feeds

  • Is there a big difference between MSI K8N SLI and MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboa

i am a bit tight on budget, so I was wondering if I should get the MSI K8N SLI motherboard instead of the MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboard (my previous choice),.......what do u guys say ?

    Hi,
Note that he is not talking about the Neo4 versions, looks like in the US MSI has different products:
    Here is the K8N SLI:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=681
And here is the K8N NEO4 SLI:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4/SLI&class=mb
One has Sound blaster, the other does not.
Besides, K8N SLI Platinum has only one LAN.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=641
While the Neo4 Platinum has two.

A bit confusing right !? Remember that this forum is accessed by people all over the world.
The thing is that the Neo4 and the related non-Neo are using the same BIOS AFAIK.

  • MSI NEO 4 Platinum with SATA Drive

I have recently built a new machine with the following specs but I am having problems with system stability in windows and was wondering whether it's because of the way I set up the hard drive.
    Specs:
    MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3500 Winchester
    Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu
    1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 RAM
    Sapphire X800 XT
    Sound Blaster Audigy Player
Maxtor 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
    Maxtor 40GB IDE Hard Drive
    550W PSU
I plugged my SATA drive into slot 1 and booted from the maxblast 3 CD to partition and set up the hard drive. I then installed windows 98 and upgraded to windows 2000. My system seems to be slow and laggy, though it seems mostly fine in games. When I listen to music and browse a CD at the same time the sound stutters and lags. I am getting lots of slow down when doing lots of things on the computer but it shouldn't slow down as much as it is. I am also getting windows error messages.
Is there a different way I should have installed the hard drive. I can't boot from my windows 2000 disk in dos because it's only upgrade version. I read on the forum about adding the SATA drive to a raid array before installing windows but I don't understand what this means. Can you help?
The floppy drive also doesn't seem to work so I couldn't install SATA drivers at windows setup. How can I get it working because the lead seems to be connected correctly as it gives an error message on boot up with the purple stripe the other side of the floppy drive.

If you have an XP upgrade CD follow the following steps.
    1) Decide which HD you wish to install XP on.
If the Sata - Then turn of PC & unplug IDE Drive, this is a windows thing, as XP will see the Ide drive b4 the Sata & try to create the 1st drive as system drive. You can plug the ide back in when the install is complete.
    2) Insert XP Cd. Enter Bios - Advanced bios change boot order so that CD is 1st device. or press f11 as pc posts, & select CD.
    3) The PC should now boot from the XP CD.
You don't need to load any floppy drivers.
But XP will ask to see a qualifying product, put in your 2000 or 98 CD.
You should see a Hard drive Partition Setup screen - you can use this to delete any existing partition & format the drive (Don't use the quick format it's only quick cos it dont check for errors so slow & safe is best.  See section How to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program

  • Antec Power Supply and K8N Neo 2

I have just noticed this comment in the Tweaktown Review of this board and the Abit AV8 and the fact that Antec are still looking at the problem. http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=87725
Important note regarding the Socket 939 platform and the use of power supplies. It is a given that when you step up to this level of performance, you are simply going to have to have a solid performing PSU. If you are in the market for this type of system board and don’t have a quality power supply yet, please note that I was unable to get the Antec line of power supplies to work with any stability with either of these boards. I will see about contacting them and trying to find out if they are looking at this issue, but as of right now I would recommend staying away from this brand until the problem is rectified. This is really a shame, too, as the Antec is one of the best performing brands on the market, but stability is a huge issue. When I changed out to a Thermaltake model and left all other settings alone, the system worked flawlessly.

    No problem.
The only reason I posted it is that the power supply problem seems to rear its head on all/most of the AMD 64 boards and it looks as though the psu manufacturers are going to need to sort out their specifications. The factor other than the 12 volt rail amperage is the stability as it appears that the problem with the Antec was stability of the 5vsb rail so using cheap psu's may be a thing of the past.

  • Help with MSI Neo 2 Platinum 54g cannot boot from usb stick

    Hi all,
Just purchased the new motherboard with my FX55 CPU and I chose this mobo as it seemed the best option at the moment.
A problem I am having is with the USB memory sticks. I have created a memory stick that is bootable. I have tested it on other pc's and it works ok but on the MSI board, it does not work. It recognises it during POST, but it will not boot.
Is there something that I must do for this to work ?

I found it finally! It treats the USB stick as a hard disk, so you have to put it first on the Hard disk priority submenu! I wish it would say that in the manual. I found it by looking at everything in the bios... I hit the Hard disk priority and the usb stick was on 2 and my hard disk on 1. As soon as I swapped them around it worked fine..

  • MSI Neo k8n Platinum firewall

    1: I can't access it.
Thats how simple it is, I click the "NVIDIA Web-based Interface" shortcut and nothing happens. NOTHING, It's so great that MSI checks so that everything works before they release a MB, go go MSI.
I'll never buy anything from them again.

I've had limited issues with it until however I used live update to update my drivers from the ones provided on the instalation cd to the latest stored on MSI's site, now it's selective to what it allows through. So far I've had most trouble with banking websites that use certain popup windows.
If you want to check if you are being blocked try the below link, I was applying for a credit card and got to a point when the site  wants to open a form. If you are having the same issue the form won't open and an error will appear instead.
If i shutdown the firewall however the form will open
From what i can gather after googling we are not alone, the only solution so far is to disable it as even on low settings it still blocks these pages.
    http://www.abbey.com/cash/credit_cards/credit_cards_balance_transfer_card_apply.html
click that link and press the orange CONTINUE button, it will try and open the form
If someone is going to try and fix it then this page is one example of what's being blocked.

  • SATA 2 and K8N-Neo 4 Platinum...

    Hey ppl..
I have the K8N-Neo4 Platinum PCB v1.0 and in the MSI web site it says that i can't use SATA 2 technology in my motherboard because of an incompatibility issue () and they haven't get ride of it... what I mean is: I cant use NCQ on SATA 2 ... I have a Samsung SATA 2 SP2004C and my pc is freezing from time to time and I believe its cause the NCQ problem (listed here) ... I've already disabled the NCQ technology in the System Properties and it still freezing... I already had another SATA2 HD (the same model) and the same problem persists... so, someone who have the same motherboard can advice me ?? I'm really getting out of my nerves with this problem... my mob hasn't any problem ... I can tell same about the other peripherals... I'm so sure about that because i have an IDE HD here and when i plug it on, everything is really fine..
    Can someone PLEASE help me??

Jumper the drives to SATA-1, see if it solves it.
    Thx for the answer Bas!
I'll try that and what you mean is to jumper to SATA I and stay plugged to Nforce Controller??

  • Dual Core Center- MSI 8800 GTS and MSI P6N SLI Platinum.

I have both the MSI 650i MOBO and the MSI 8800 GTS vidcard. When using an Asus P5B Dlx MOBO and this vidcard, Dual Core Center was installed and displayed the information for the videocard and allowed a mild OC. Now with both MSI products in the case, Dual Core Center only displays the information on the MOBO-- no 8800 GTS information. The tab at the top for the VGA does not bring up anything.  ??? I have tried installing the version on each one of the disks that came with each piece of equipment again and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent version of the utility from the MSI site and still get only the MOBO information. How do I get the display for the video card?
Or since the MSI utilities typically are listed on the forums as not being the greatest, what else can I/should I be using instead?
    {I put this in the MOBO forum too as it hits both areas...}

Found that AtiTool (latest beta) works on the 8800's. The "find max core" and "find max memory" don't work perfectly though, as they start the overclock and then are supposed to check for errors; they are supposed to stop the adjustment upward when they encounter erros and come back down......    AtiTool just kept cranking it up, although you could visibly see the little 3D screen artifact all over the place. But It gave a good starting place to do the OC manually and then go run the scan for artifacts and errors manually.  AtiTool listed the stock core at 513 and stock memory at 792. I was able to take the core up to ~644 and the memory up to ~877. I backed these off some (as you can't run both at max!) and it looked stable at 630 core, 860 memory.  Ran through both 3DMark 05 and 3DMark06 without a hitch. Need to check it out with some extended gameplay now.

  • Msi Neo 2 Platinum broken ?

I've started to experience problems with my Neo2 Platinum mobo, ( 7months old) .
The problem(s) started yesterday when i got home from school, when I put on the computer it didnt want to boot normally, instead it just died after a few seconds. So i thought maybe its my memory, so i took them both out ( 2x512mb sticks), and put one of them in:
    1.dimm1, didnt work,
    2.dimm2, didnt work
    3.dimm3, worked
    4.dimm4, didnt work
(tried this with both of the sticks), I usually have them in dimm3 and dimm4. But then later on i tried the 'slots' again, and then dimm3 started to whine, took the stick out, put it back in (pressed it in a little harder), put the other one in dimm4, and it worked too, So now i had both of them in the computer , working. So I was happy. But today when I started my comp, it died again in the beginning, and after that it froze at the beginning ( where you see ur memory, bios version etc etc) , the third time it worked... what could it be, the cause.

1.5 cents now...and this is knda a question for syar too. wouldn't the legacy drivers provide at least some functionality of the VC through the boot process at least? I't seems like they would hve to, not everyone can find an old plain jane vid to set up their fancy new drivers for their new all the bells and whistles SLI setup so they can do some switcharoo after the drivers are in.  I'm just reasoning here.  Turok: I think the driver issue is a good place to start.  You would doo good tu uninstall the old drivers and start afresh with some new drivers... I used driver cleaner pro the other day, because I have tried multiple remedies to this black screen issue I've been getting, wiped out all but legacy drivers, reinstaled correct MSI nvidia driver, rebooted, no probs since, couldn't hurt...................much, have fun
