Engaging audio tracks for recording

I'm using multiple instruments to record drums, but whenever I engage multiple audio tracks it doesn't work, example. I'll engage tracks 1 and 2, and then when I go to engage audio track 3 audio track 1 disengages without me doing anything. This will happen in pairs of two, allowing me to only be able to record to audio tracks at a time. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
G5 2GHZ   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   2.5 GB Ram

following jords reply that happens because that's your currently selected inputs,
if your audio interface allows you to have more than 2 inputs if you select 3 and 4,5-6 etc
on the following audio tracks channel strips you will be able to record on more than 2 mono channels and so on.

I want to record VO but PP won't let me...
On Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite in System Preferences:
    • Sound Input is set to C-Media USB Headphone Set (an Alesis usb mic...works fine for VO in Final Cut Pro 7)
    • Output is set to Headphone port
In Premiere Pro CC Audio Hardware Preferences:

    • I have also tried "C-Media USB Headphone Set but this, too, doesn't work
    • With "System Default I/O" selected, Output Mapping is set to "Adobe Desktop Audio" (only choice), and shows:

In order to record VO, I first need to "enable track for recording" in the Audio Track Mixer. There are no in or out points set in my timeline and the tracks are not locked or solo'd or anything. So why can't I select the audio track I want to use to record VO? I click it but there is no response. I just want to know why this software is not doing what it's designed to do.

  • How to enable Audio Track for recording podcast

I'm trying to use Garageband to create podcast in iLife '06. When I select female voice and the red record button, I get this message "No Audio Track is enabled for recording". Adding new track from the Tracks menu does not help. Can anyone help please?

  • Is it possible to lock an audio track in "record enabled" mode?

Here's how i write... i set up a drum loop to play for around 20 minutes, then I rec-enable one audio track to record vocals, and then finally, I skip around among hundreds of different midi tracks.
I just hit the down arrow button, and scroll through dozens and dozens of midi tracks. I quickly hit the keyboard to listen to the sounds. If i like a particular sound, i just want to hit record, and instantly record my vocals along with the midi performance.
Unfortunately, when i hit record, the vocal/audio track doesn't record. Right at the moment when i find an inspiring sound and hit record, the vocals just don't record.
I'm forced to scroll miles up the arrange window, to find
the vocal audio track. It's still blinking the red "rec" button, but this is misleading. It's not actually record enabled. I have to hold down shift, hit it once to turn it off, then hit it again to re-activate record function.
Only then can i record the midi AND vocals.
What I want and need is sooooooo simple to offer as a function, yet totally ruinous to my creative flow if it's not possible. (I used to do this easily on the far inferior
    Cubase VST 5.1, OS 9)
Is there a way to record enable an audio track, so that,
until I specifically disable the record function, it's
ALWAYS ready to record the second I hit the record button?
Even after I've been hitting the down arrow to audition
    various midi channels?

I tried to build screensets like you suggested. If I could
get this to work, I think it would be a great solution, but
    I'm having serious problems.
I opened a separate mixer, with just the single vocal/audio
    track showing.
Then I opened the main mixer, which has all the faders.
If I record-enable a midi track, and then hit the record-enable button on the audio track, the midi track becomes un-enabled. Incredibly frustrating.
The only way I've been able to do it has been to record-enable the vocal track, and then start recording.
Only if Logic is actually recording, can i then record-enable the midi track without deactivating the audio
    track.
A big problem is, that when i click to record enable the
vocal track, the arrange window jumps all the way up to the
top, where the audio track is. THen i'm forced to travel
down, to re-find the midi track.
You mentioned in your post that the mixer needs to be
"unlinked". HOw is this done? Will it be possible for
me to click on the record-enable button on the mixer's audio track without the arrange window jumping to that track?

  • Player Error: "You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording"

So I'm trying to adjust my audio using the track mixer in premiere pro cc. I assigned 2 clips to a submix. When I tried to record, I got the following error: "You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording." I disabled other tracks, then re enabled them all, muted them all, but still got the same error when I tried to record.

This is how I have just made a recording:
Select track to record (1), Select record (2) then press play to record.
Use the in-out markers in the program monitor to select the area to record.

  • Can't Arm Track for Recording

I can't Arm any track for recording. I've closed the program, rebooted, etc. with no luck. When I first open Audition, with no session loaded, I can Arm a track. But when I load my session I can't Arm any track. I've checked Audio Hardware Setup and all seems OK. Anyone know what might be happening? Thanks.

I found the problem. Each track had the 'Input' button (right below the volume and pan buttons) set to none. How this happened I'm not sure. Probably when I opened another program that took over ASIO and changed AA3.
    I found the answer at http://forums.digitalmedianet.com/cgi-bin/readwholethread.fcgi?forum=adobe_audition&post= 060922041404.htm&toppostid=425
They were discussing another problem but was able to get my answer from the topic they were discussing.

  • Premiere Elements 13 (not Pro), recorded a video with mono mic input (left channel only), need to create 2-channel (left and right) audio track for finished product. Help?

The question says it all. I have been all over the tutorials as well as the menus inside Premiere 13 and cannot find how to edit the audio track beyond basic balance, volume, etc.
I can see the Audio 1 track, shows audio in left channel only, but it will not respond to attempts to select, cut/copy, paste, etc.
Basically I just want to turn one-channel audio into two-channel audio.

    25424...
Sure you do not want to give the Fill Left and Fill Right another try?
According to the Adobe document Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Effects reference
    Fill Left, Fill Right
The Fill Left effect duplicates the left channel information of the audio clip and places it in the right channel, discarding the original clip’s right channel information. The Fill Right effect duplicates the right channel information and places it in the left channel, discarding the existing left channel information. For example, you might use this effect on footage shot with a monaural microphone plugged into only one channel of a camcorder, extending the voice of a speaker from one channel to both.
From what you wrote, your Premiere Pro video seems to be saying the same.
If that Premiere Elements Fill Left or Fill Right is no go, you might want to explore what you can do in this regard using the free audio editor Audacity.
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
And, then import the Audacity edited audio back into Premiere Elements project as source media.
    Is the speaker system OK?
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks for the follow up.

  • Set default audio track for playback in Source monitor

So I'm an editor that is somewhat new to the profession and I am working on a project right now with close to 100 video clips in my project. Most of the clips have their audio recorded to track 2 but when I load the clips into the source window to find the footage asked for in my script there is no audio playback.
They play fine in the program monitor once placed in a timeline, because I have all the audio tracks are turned on until I do my mastering at the end of the project. To get audio playback in the source monitor I have to change the view option to audio waveform which shows a blank screen because there is no audio on track. I then go to the drop-down menu just below the video display and select track 2 at which point the audio waveform shows up and plays back fine. This isn't too arduous a process and isn't a great burden but it slows my workflow down considerably as I have to repeat the process for each new clip I load into the source monitor.
My question then is if there is anywhere in Premiere that I can set which audio track is the default audio playback track for clips loaded in the source monitor. I work on a lot of similar projects like this for the same client and they don't have the most rigorous standards for their shooters. This problem has come up before and will most assuredly arise again in the future so any tips/advice on how to fix this on my end would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm not really sure.I don't do any shooting for the client and in fact don't have any contact with the shooters, we just do the post. They use a number of different freelance videographers all of whom have different equipment and procedures when it comes to formatting, orginization, etc.

  • Premiere Pro CC and missing audio tracks for .mts files

    Hello guys,
I used to edit my .mts files with Premiere Pro CC without any issues until yesterday.
Now I import my .mts file (made with a Sony VG900) but Premiere doesn't recognize the audio tracks (that I can hear just fine with VLC).
I tried changing the extension in .m2ts but it didn't work, I also tried reinstalling Premiere but, again, it didn't work and I tried (I was desperate) to install Premiere CS6 just to check if maybe the problem was just about the CC version. Guess what? It didn't work...
I tried also converting the file with Encoder in .mp4 but after the conversion I can't hear the audio with VLC and, of course, it doesn't work on Premiere.
Do you think it's a Premiere issue or a file problem?
I used those same files for other videos (like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1X5vsZ-5yI) and I had no problems. Then I updated Premiere, I moved the files in other folder and the problem came to life.
    Any idea?
(I'm waiting for my colleague to send me a new mts file just to check if I accidentally damanged the old ones).

    A similar problem here..... although......
Take a look at this screenshot
As you will see, the blue marked audio is repeated audio of less than on sec. Certainly not the way it has been recorded.
I think I've got the answer........ (working with Premiere Pro CC, always up to date, Mac OX 10.9.2; Camera: Sony HXR NX3)
    1. Don't copy but clone your flash card to the location where to edit on your hard drive. At the same time: alt+click on external flash card, draw it onto your hard drive location.
(or use carbon copy cloner, which I use for backup and transferring avchd files).
    2. Don't import regularly via the import dialogue box (cmd-i). Instead: use the mediabrowser browser, locate the map "private" (as often standard named),
    3. Via cmd-a (select all): select all videofiles.
    4. click right mouse button and select import.
This way, all the video and audio files will be imported.
If however you have alreade re-used your camera flash card for recordings and don't have access to the 'corrupted' files to be imported into your project, you won't be able to solve the problem. You just lost some of the essential data which were not copied onto your Mac.
This solution I found for my problem may well be the one you are looking for........
Another solution might be to convert the compressed avchd - before importing into your project - into uncompressed .mov filed. However...... you will lose data so this is not exactly what I would prefer if the former described workflow does fix the problem for you.
Please let me know if this works for you or not.
    Good luck!
    Regards,
    Peter

  • Is it possible to turn off selected audio tracks for export?

    Hi,
I have worked with fcp 5 before on a project with two languages. Beside the footage audio, each language had its own audio track which I could turn off for export. It was nice to have all languages in one project, because changes had effect for all languages at the same time.
Is it possible to turn off audio tracks in fcpX for export?
I know that fcpX hasn't tracks anymore, but is there a similar function to serve the same purpose?
I am not a professional editor.

I am blissfully unaware of how production companies work .
The project I am working on is a pretty straight forward instruction video. I will be shooting the video, edit and then have the comments recorded by professionals. In DVDPro I will put them both together.
The magnetic timeline is kind of irritating. I will have to work on the languages one after the other. So once I have a language done, I will probably create a compound clip to prevent the sliding around. That would also make it easier to enable or disable the clips.

  • Compose Audio Tracks for Full/Minus Vocal Music Video DVD

    Hi everyone.
I've recorded, mixed my song in Sonar, mastered the stereo audio file in Wavelab, edit video in Premiere CS4 for a dvd music video project. Anyone can help me how to compose the audio tracks so that finally listener can choose for full song or minus the main vocal with their remote controller.
Heard people telling about vocal on the right channel and music on left channel which will make the original stereo music mono. i'm trying to avoid this. any other way of doing that?...2 tracks together in a song, 1 full 1 without vocal? How do you do this?
    Thanks, all the best everyone.
    Mal

    Mal,
One can do this very easily in Encore. While it's more an Encore question, let me try to tackle it here.
DVD-Video and BD, allow for multiple Audio Streams. These are user selectable from either a Menu, or the Audio button on the remote.
What I would do would be to Export your Sequence in elemental/elementary streams, i.e. one Video-only and then, in your case, two Audio-only files. One will be the full-mix with vocals, and the other with just the instrumental. These files can be either Exported from PrPro, or from your audio-editing program. There is one warning, that I will give you later on.
Now, you have three files: Video-only (silent), and two versions of your Audio. Import the Video-only into Encore, as a Timeline. Import the two Audio-only files as Assets.
In the Project Panel in Encore, drag one of your Audio-only files to that Timeline, where it will be Audio Track 1. Drag the other to that same Timeline, where it will be Audio Track 2. Audio Track 1 will be the main Audio, so you get to choose which one you deem more important, or which you want to be the default. The other, Audio Track 2, will be the supplemental Audio.
I would use a Menu, that had Buttons for the User to choose which Audio version they wanted. One Button would be specifically linked to the Timeline with Audio Track 1 chosen, and the second to that same Timeline, but with Audio Track 2 specifically chosen (drop-down in Properties Panel for those Buttons, will let you choose this). Most remotes will allow the user to choose on the fly, with the Audio button, but I would still do this Menu. I do similar, when I have DD 5.1 SS on Audio Track 1, and the DTS encoded version on Audio Track 2.
Then, just set up your other Menus, as is required.
For more Encore-specific questions, here is the Encore Forum. Some of the same folk there, as here, but there are some different folk, who only post/read there. One, Neil Wilkes is a major music DVD/BD producer, and knows his way around music mixing and authoring.
Now, that one warning mentioned above. Both DVD-Video and BD are centered around Video. If you are Exporting from PrPro, make 100% certain that your Audio is EXACTLY the same Duration as your Video, or slightly shorter. I usually leave about 1-2 sec. of silent Audio. Even 1 Audio Unit more in the Audio file can be an issue. Exact, or slightly shorter for the Audio. This holds for Exporting from your Audio-editing program too. Just check that Duration very carefully.
Also, if you are doing DD 5.1 SS, you might want to make sure that you have 02 sec. of silence, before the first note in your Audio, to give a DVD player time to lock onto the signal. This is more likely to be needed with higher-end DVD players. I always begin my Video with 02 sec. of Black Video and end it with 02 sec. of Black Video. My Audio does not begin until the end of the first, and ends before the end of the latter.
Good luck, and hope that this helps,
    Hunt

  • Naming audio tracks when recording??

Is there a way of naming audio tracks so when you record them the actual name of the track exists in the audio folder??
When you record in an audio track in logic for the first time, it prompts you to name and select where the audio track will be saved. Now whatever tack I record I end up having the same name for ever track..

I did wonder if I should edit my answer with more detail
In the Set Audio Record Path box if you check "Use Audio Object Name For Filename" then the name of whichever track you have selected and and are recording to is used.

  • Any reccomendations on a Audio Interface for recording?

    Hello!
I’m looking to buy a new Audio Interface for under $500. Any recommendations?
    Thanks!

I bought a firebox to do some mobile recording, but it had problems and I had to send it back to presonus. in fact I have had 3 other presonus products and every one of them developed problems and I had to send all of them in for repairs. The good thing is Presonus is a great company and they stand behind their products, but in my experience their quality control *****.
once I got the firebox back, I used it for 3 mobile sessions and it worked fine recording 4 tracks. I used it in the studio once as an aggregate device with my motu and the thing glitches about a dozen times during the session, which forced me to constantly restart or re select the driver. right after the session was over I put it on ebay and got rid of it. and I will never buy another presonus product again

  • How do you export separate audio tracks for Pro Tools?

I need to give separate audio tracks to my sound mixer but am confused on how to do so in FCP X.
    So far I've:
Set the dialogue roles and stems for each character
Then I went into Master File>Settings
    Selected:
    "Format: Audio Only"
    "Audio File Format: Wav File"
"Roles as: Audio only as separate files"
    "Dialogue"
    Sara
    "Stereo"
And when I export and listen back to the wav file, there is either no audio or I hear select dialogue.
The only thing I can think of that I am doing wrong, is that each characters dialogue is not on the same track like the picture below. The tracks highlighted is of one character's dialogue that I am trying to export onto one linear track to export into Pro Tools.
Can tracks be assigned in FCP X? Or is there a crucial step that I am forgetting tthat explains why the audio for each character is not being exported.
    Thanks!

If you're dumping audio for ProTools, you should be able to export XML for use in PT. Haven't done it myself, but the option's been there for a while now. You should be able to find instructions easily.
If you want to stick with making Roles work, I suggest making sure the roles are assigned properly to each clip. Kind of a super pain in the neck, to go one by one, but ... that's the way. There are key commands for the three default roles, but if you've created custom ones then it's more time consuming. Is that 'Sara' one a custom Role that you've created?
My only thought is you have compound audio clips there. Maybe go in and set the roles on the individual files inside the compound clips. Dunno...
The visual organization shouldn't matter (one track above another). That's the X way.
((In your picture, you say you have some files selected. When I select, I get a yellow border; yours are light green and dark green. What is that?))
