Engineering Change management SPRO

Dear Experts,
Does any body know what is "Define output format for change number" in SPRO --> Cross Application components --> Engineering change management --> Define output format for change number.
When I try to execute I dont see it allowing me to enter / change any details there. It just gives a screen with no values.
I am trying to see if this helps to define alpha numeric format for internal change number.

this functionality is to Define Input and output length of change number and for template for output of change number if required . For creating new entries in menu bar goto EDIT - > New Entries

I have created an application and have created end users also who will be using this application. For each of these users i have to give access to application in such a way that they will be able to see only their area a work. So how do i do this ..this needs to done based on the login user_name..my question now is how or from where will i get the current session details like user_name, current session id ,current session date and time?

Requirement is to change the valid from date to New date from custom program even if it is expired to over right existing protected date

In Engineering change management
i have activated parameter effectivity &
defined parameter profile for DATE,SERNR,Kombi1-Customer(combination of Date & Customer name- Kunnr) in IMG settings
i am able to work with Date & SERNR But when i choose kombi1
i am getting the following error message
"No entries in database for object KUNDE_LO table AEEF"
i checked with table AEEF thier is no field KUNDE_LO
How to customize effectivity type Customer
is there any thing i have missed ....

Hi Srinivas,
KUNDE_LO is a data element , what ever kombi1 is defined i think that does not have any values maintained in the system.
or
Check whether any user exits or BAPI's used bringing the customer specifications.
You can also check the data element existence u might have done that .....

but i am not able to locate it in my SAP

Engineering change management for materials in MDM

Hi,
we want to replace a home-made material master data system by MDM, but need some Engineering Change Management functions like
- versions of material
- release dates
- different release dates in relation to different factories (i.e. client systems)
Any idea, how this could be handled in MDM ?

Hello Michael:
All of that information you mention can be included on MDM as plain attributes on the Materials table.
As for Versions, if materials are updated thru MDM Import I'd suggest include the new version number and as import action choose "Update all mapped fields", that is, while importing the old version number will be updated.
for different release dates you can maintain as many date attributes as Factories you have. When harmonizing data (syndicating) you can map each factory to its correspondant release date, so the other factories won't even "notice" the other dates.

CS14 without the use of Engineering Change Management

Hi all,
everybody knows if the date of validity showed in the entering screen of TCODE: CS14, lets the comparison between BOM at different date, even if the Engineering Change Management isn't implemented for a plant?!

If you don't use ECM then the change log is not such detailed and the validity dates will be firmed for one BOM item, so it may hard to compare the BOM on certain date without the ECM.

Hi,
ECM will help for Master data changes management.
OCM will help to manage changes in Transaction Data like Production Orders.
In brief,you have to first Create Change Number(part of ECM activity).then using that Change number, Master data(like BOM, Routing etc) has to be modified.
Then through OCM affected Transaction Data(like Production Orders) for each change number to be Processed.

BOM Validity - Using Engineering Change Management

Hello All,
We are currently reviewing the ECM functionality to assistn in BOM validity maintenance. I have made the necessary changes in SPRO to activate this functionality. My initial testing utilizing the Change Master and associating it with the BOM works fine. However, the question I had was more around having to make retroactive changes. I noticed that the system using the Entered or Created date from the transaction to determine the BOM validity. Is there anyway to influence the BOM validiy to look at document dateof the transaction instead of entered date? Has anyone run into this type of issue before?

Hi Krishna,
You can use change numbers to change independent (recipe) formula in the PLM-Recipe Management.
The object formula is assigned to the object type specification (type 60 of the change management).
For the object type specification the use of the object management record is not supported in the SAP standard.
Only the change documents are available.

Engineering Change Management - Effectivity Types

Hello Forum members,
we want to make our BOM Engineering Changes being dependent from material stocks.
The process is the following: A BOM material shall be exchanged only after the old material's stock is depleted, e.g. a steel holder shall be replaced by a aluminum holder only after the existing stock of the steel holder is depleted. The use of a fixed date is therefore not helpful.
We are thinking about how we could implement this dynamic Effectivity Type that is linked to the MM inventory. Has anybody ever done such thing or something comparable? Any ideas of how this could be done?

Hi Marcus,
Actually you need to 2 separate things to get what you want:
1) use discontinuation functionality (MRP 4 view) to use existing stock when you a follow up material, or a group of follow up materials. This means that the system will not generate new supply elements for the discontinued material, but use all the existing supply. In this stage the BOM is not changed yet.
2) after the stock is used up, or when you get a clear picture from planning and (1) on the date when it happens, then you create an ECM with that date and change the BOM accordingly.

Please help me with this.
I am using Change number: CN0000005387 for IAP 2.0 (FAP9010258/1 and FAP9010259/1) package. Future date 03.07.2028
And using Change number: CN0000005234 for ECDS4.0(FAP9010669, FAP9010759 and FAP 901 0808) with future date 28.05.2028
My problem is I have by mistaken used change number CN0000005234 while updating IAP2.0 and with this change number I have just added one procedure to AGO configuration Profile. And this is completely a new package.
How can I separate these packages from each other because I cannot release IAP 2.0 and I am not suppose to ECDS4.0.

Hello Sarika,
Once you have used the change number, we cannot undo, since it's master data change. But we have 2 options
Option1: Shift the date as required in the change number. But all the relevant objects will move, which probably you would have tried.
Option2: For a specific change number you can have multiple effective date, I mean object specific. I have used this function longtime back. But only check required is, can we use it for a change number which has created object managment record. Which is your specific reqmt.

How to see any changes done in BOM through Engineering change management?

Dear experts,
My client need to verify the revision of some assemblies in BOM through ECM.
I tried to verify it by taking some change numbers & executing it in CC03. I am getting the history date & name of person who done the changes. But can not able to see the actual changes.
Could you please tell me how to see the changes done?

Dear Mehul Veni,
Assuming you have created a change number through CC01 and made changes in CS02 for a particular BOM by entering this
change number in the input screen in CS02.
Once after making BOM changes,save the data and check in CC03>enter the same change number>menu->environment-
>reporting->Bill of material--->select the change number and click on expand sub-tree and you will get all the required details.
Check and revert

this you need to check with your developer, whether any dependency is there for this transport. Based on the dependency, in a particular order you need to transport, else the transport will fail.

Engineering change management.

I am new to ECM.
My process is to create a change request > approval for change request> change number --> perform the change --> Approve the change performed.
Is this scenario possible in ECM.
I have doubts only on the last step of the process. I want the change to be applied only after the someone approves the performed change.
explaining it with an example.
I have to change a BOM component quantity .
First I create a change request --> get approved --> change number --> perform the BOM change with the change number --> Approve the BOM component quantity change.
The updated quantity should be used only after the performed change is approved.

All of above are possible; the process in SAP is of an ECR/ECO, with release key.
