English InDesign on Chinese Windows XP

We are an Australian based company and we have a branch in HK.
They wish to use our InDesign but the key we use does not work. When they enter the key during the install, they get a red cross.
They are using our install files but they are installing on a Win XP Chinese.
We followed this up with Adobe Aus but they said Chinese OS is out of their scope. We were told this after trying a few other things, including running a cleaning script from a previous Adobe trial. We then got told to ring Adobe HK as the client is in HK.
We rang Adobe HK and got told that it is possibly an OS issue. Now we are told to call Adobe China as they will have Chinese OS support.
Tried both numbers as advertised on the Adobe website +86 10 10 800 4400421 and +86 10 10 800 7440438 but both numbers lead to nowhere. I also tried ringing the main office 0011 86 10 5865 7700 but no answer. (I think they are having Dragon Boat festival today). I might try the main office again tomorrow. (Note: I have also tried dialing +86 10 800 4400421 and +86 10 800 7440438 thinking the additional 10 is the area code for Beijing but no luck either.)
I am just wondering, has anyone tried to install an English version of Adobe InDesign CS4 on a Chinese Windows XP? Does anyone from Adobe know if there is some kind of restriction per region?
I have tried using our installation files on a Japanese Windows XP (thinking it is a language/input issue) but this is successful.

Thanks for the tip Peter. Like I said, I have tried getting support through the phone but this has led me to a dead end. I will be trying the Main office in Beijing today. It seems they provide English support. The problem is, will using and Australian English version of their product be in their support scope. If that's the case, I'm between a rock and a hard place.
We're definitely on a volume license.
I'm posting a message here as a last resort, hoping someone else has encountered something similar.
Obi... I mean... Adobe (forums)...
...you're my only hope.

  • Is there any possibility to show English interface in Chinese windows-xp?

I'm using English Windows-XP, but "Language for non-Unicode program" setting has to be set as "Chinese(PRC)" to show Chinese word correctly in my laptop.
ODI interface in this environment always show in Chinese, but all the manual is in English, so it's difficult for me to make clear which word in ODI interface is the meaning in manual.
My question is, Is there any possibility to show ODI English interface even "Language for non-Unicode program" setting in my Windows-XP is "Chinese(PRC)"?

    OK, I got the answer.

  • Japanese rubi in English InDesign

    Hi,
I've downloaded English InDesign CS4 trial but still there seems to be no support for 'Rubi' as in the Japanese version - is that correct? Is there a way to enable it?
We have to use the Japanese version to do Chinese as we need Rubi to place pronunciation on top of some characters. It's a real pain as our Japanese language ability is limited. Is it possible to therefore use Japanese ID but with English menus as per the old PageMaker?
    Any help appreciated, thanks.
    Paul

    Hi,
Yes, once the rubi is set upon a character you can re-open in the
English version to do some basic editing but you can't do anything to
the rubi as you just can't get to it. Fortunately it's stuck on the
character so it moves with it if you need to reformat.
We tend to stay in the Japanese version and only re-open in the
English if there's some error or problem in Japanese we can't
understand. It's just a pain to have to do it this way. If the
Japanese version had an English menu option that would be great.
I think there's now a Chinese version of InDesign but we can't afford
to buy new - bet you can't crossgrade. In fact we couldn't even buy
the Japanese version here in Australia - Adobe wouldn't sell it and we
couldn't buy it from Japan as Adobe there wouldn't export it,
fortunately we have a friend in Japan who bought it for us. This is
    really quite ridiculous.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Use OLEDB in Chinese windows Server

    Hello..
I have a problem in using OLEDB in Chinese windows system.
If i write sql statement that include Chinese Language in ASP code, then I can not return record correctly.
For example,in case of col1 of table1 is varchar2 type and data inserted chinese language, if i execute query that 'select col1 from table1' then has no problem.
but i execute 'select col1 from table1 where col1 = 'CHINESE LANGUAGE' then return no record..
    How can i fix it?
    Environment :
Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4
    Web server - IIS 5.x
    MDAC version - 2.53.6200.1
    Oracle version - 8.1.7.4.1
Oracle Provider for OLE DB - 8.1.7.3.0
    Oracle NLS - AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASII

The characterset is a problem, but it's a common problem.
Taking a step back and thinking about the problem logically, it should be clear that you shouldn't be able to store Chinese data in a US7ASCII database. A US7ASCII database can store 128 distinct characters, but there are a whole lot more than 128 Chinese characters. If every character in the world could be represented via ASCII, Unicode would have been a pointless exercise.
Why, then, does it appear to work correctly for you? When the client and the server both have the same NLS language setting, the Oracle networking layer doesn't do any sort of character set conversion-- it just passes the data back and forth as a binary stream. In your case, the client application is, in essence, lying to the database about the type of data it's passing in. In all probability, you really have Big5 encoded data. So long as the retrieving application expects to be getting that same encoding (Big5), and doesn't bother to ask the client what encoding it's actually getting back, everything will appear to work. You're pulling a fast one on the database, but as long as everyone is in on the lie, everything will work.
The problem comes, however, when other applications believe the lie that the database is telling. When the OLE DB provider retrieves the data, it knows that it's going to want Unicode data. Since the database claims to be storing ASCII data, the Oracle networking layer will attempt to convert the "ASCII" data to Unicode before handing it to the ASP page. Since the data really isn't ASCII, though, the conversion won't work. The same sort of thing would happen if you used some of the Oracle tools like export & import or if you queried the data from an English Windows system that's set up to handle Unicode data.
At this point, you have corrupt data in the database. You don't have valid Chinese in the database.

  • I cannot install latest itunes to my Sony notebook which is running on traditional chinese windows 7 64-bit, the error message is something like unrecognized windows package, can any one help me or has similar experience? Thanks.

I cannot install latest itunes to my Sony notebook which is running on traditional chinese windows 7 64-bit, the error message is something like unrecognized windows package, can any one help me or has similar experience? Thanks.

iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

  • InDesign CS6 with Window 8 Won't Launch

Had been working fine, last launch was 3 days ago.  Today tried to open InDesign CS6 (Windows 8.1) and get the following InDesign.exe error box: "CAnot load InDesign.exe because it requires Paragraph Composer. Please install the Paragraph Composer plug-in and restart InDesign."  How do you do this, where do you get?

    Peter thanks for your help.
I set up a new user account and tried, but that didn't work either.
    Do I need to :
    1. uninstall InDesign only with Windows Unintsaller (not the entire suite?)
    2. download InDesign from Adobe's website
    3. put in our serial # and I should be good to go?
Or will I still need to reinstall my plugins through the Adobe manager?
    Thanks
I would certainly try just doing ID first. If that's not successful you can remove the whole suite, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) then reinstall.

  • InDesign Mac and Windows troubles

    Hi,
We got 2 different shares on our Windows Server. One share for InDesign documents and one share for pictures. The pictures are used in the InDesign documents.
We use InDesign CS6 for Mac and for Windows. If we create the InDesign documents on a Mac and open it on a Windows InDesign the picture links are broken. Same thing happens when we create the InDesign documents on Windows and open it on a Mac. Between 2 Macs or 2 Windows computers there isn't any problems.
If both the InDesign document and the picture we link to is on the same server share there's no problems too.
Shouldn't it be possible to edit the same InDesign documents on both Mac and Windows without breaking the links when they are stored on different shares?
    Thanks!
    Best regards
    Brian

Sounds like either a problem with the path separators (Mac style vs. PC style), or possibly the network protocol used to link to the server on the Mac side.

  • Cannot access Adobe Folio Builder using Indesign (CS6) on Windows 7, error message is 'An error has occured while trying to sign in to the Folio Builder Panel' [IMS_ERROR_FAILURE]

Cannot access Adobe Folio Builder using Indesign (CS6) on Windows 7, error message is 'An error has occured while trying to sign in to the Folio Builder Panel' [IMS_ERROR_FAILURE]

Yes, I can open the DPS portal via the Folio Builder panel within InDesign. Although I have created Folios locally within InDesign CS6, the DPS portal is empty and everthing greyed out with just the text "There are no folios to display. Create folios with the folio builder in InDesign".
If I try to sign in within the Folio Builder panel in InDesign, I get the error message [IMS_ERROR_FAILURE] . In addition I am also not able to access the "Help" menu from within InDesign although I am connected to the internet.
To complicate it even further, I am working in the UK whereas all internet control (firewall) and licences are handeled by head office in Germany. I am not sure if this is a firwewall issue or not but if the IT department in Germany could get support from Adobe to understand the access requirements, this may help.
Hopefully using the forum someone out there will know the answer.

Just installed InDesign CS6 for Windows. When I open the program, I receive three messages:
    (1) Paragraph Panel.APLN needs Justification Panel plugin;
    (2) Runin Styles Panell.APLN needs Find and Change Panel plug-in;

To top it off, the type tool crashes the program.
I couldn't locate any current forum postings that appeared to help. I have uninstalled and re-installed the software. I have done an update from Adobe.
Advice? This is an educator's addition if that matters.
    Thanks,

Thank for your help Peter. My software is working just fine now.
For others who might encounter these issues, here is how - with Peter Spier's help - I solved my problems. I uninstalled the previous CS6 version and re-booted. I disconnected from the Internet and then disabled my antivirus protection, antispyware and firewall. I had to do this in Norton as well as Windows (Windows Defender and Windows Firewall). Then I re-loaded the entire CS6 and re-booted. I opened InDesign. I no longer got the msgs about plug-ins missing. I then opened a new file and checked the Type tool. It worked fine. I opened an InDesign CS3 file, saved it as a new file in ID CS6. I was able to successfully edit text using the Type Tool.
Thank you to Peter for your help!

  • Indesign cs3 and windows 8.1

I'm having trouble installing indesign cs3 with Windows 8.1.  The program says I need to upgrade screen resolution.  My lowest screen resolution is the minimum required.  I have the highest.  Any options or ideas for getting past this?

I was able to get it running with Windows 8 (64-bit), but it did take a few tries, and I have not played with all the software yet.  I have used Photoshop and Illustrator successfully, and I've opened InDesign.  I remember having to copy a file off of the installation disk to my desktop and renaming it to "AdobePDF.dll" -- I think it had 64 in the original file name.  During the install, it said it could not find that file, and that trick worked.  (I only remember because that file is still on my desktop.)
My question is: Has anyone who has CS3 running on Windows 8 upgraded to windows 8.1?
My computer keeps asking me, but I don't want to break CS3. I don't use it a whole lot, but when I need it, I want it to work.
    Thank you for any replies!

MacKeeper is a known troublemaker, and is also the subject of two separate class-action lawsuits alleging fraud. Uninstall it immediately!
Intego VirusBarrier can have a significant negative impact on system performance. I don't generally recommend it, and would recommend uninstalling it.
Also, having two different apps with active anti-virus components installed is never a good idea, and note that this hasn't prevented you from being infected with the Spigot adware. You probably got infected with this by downloading software from somewhere like Download.com. (See Boycott CNET’s Download.com.)

  • Converting an InDesign document from English into Mandarin (Chinese)

Using a Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. InDesign CS 5.5
A 4 page layout in English needs translating to Mandarin (Chinese). I have been provided the copy in Mandarin in a Word document.
Most of the Word doc looks fine other than a few characters show as rectangles.
I then asked the client to copy and paste each of the four pages into an email, all of the characters showed were in Mandarin.
I then copied and pasted from the email into the InDesign document only to find every character came up as a squares encased in a pink line.
I have reset the settings on the Mac in System Prefs and changed to Chinese (as there's no setting for Mandarin), it has made no difference what so ever.
Apple have advised InDesign has trouble with Asian fonts esp. double bite fonts.
I do not have the seriel number for InDesign on me and therefore Adobe will not assist in this matter.
    Can anyone help please?

Apparently the font applied to the text in InDesign does not contain Chinese characters. Select one that does.

That merely changes the interface, doesn't it? Your documents would not change -- all of your e-mails, for example, are still in English, right?

Don't worry about that, Apple doesn't know anything about fonts, advanced typesetting, PDFs, color management ...

  • Problem of using LiveCycle ES (8.0)  Rights Mangement on Traditoinal Chinese Windows Enterprise Serv

    Dear all,
    Hello.
Recently I had to set up a LiveCycle ES 8.0 on Tradiitonal Chinese (zhTW) Windows Enterprise Server 2003. Using turnkey & express configuration, installation was actually a breeze.
However, after installation, I discovered that Rights Mangement ES was not functioning at all. I recalled from another installation that a global policy set would be created upon installation. This global policy set was just not there to start with. To make the matter worse, no policy could be created. Everytime such attempt was made, "An internal server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." had always been the failure message. A look at JBoss server.log states:
    com.adobe.edc.server.errors.exception.EDCServerSystemException: nullorigin: | [com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean] errorCode:1281 errorCodeHEX:0x501 message:No such event definition exists | severity: 1
    at com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean.logServerEvent(AuditManagerBean .java:427)
    at com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean.logServerEventTrans(AuditManage rBean.java:541)
    more lines ...
Not only that I was unable to create policies at all, the configuration items under Rights Management just does not work. For every configuration that I tried to make change, I would always, upon saving configuration, see "A server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." error message.
Installing and use of LiveCycle ES 8.0 on English version of Windows Server 2003, Windows XP SP2, or SuSe Linux 10 did not produce the errors mentioned above.
I just wonder if Adobe LiveCycle ES 8 is currently supported on non-English OS? If it's indeed supported, what measures do I have to take to remedy the problems pertaining to Rights Management?
Thanks for any input or suggestion.

    Hi Paul,
Unfortunate this will not work. Traditional Chinese is not a supported operating system for the server. We support English, French, German and Japanese. In saying that most things do work but we know that Rights management is more challenged then other products in this way. If this is a production system and you want support you have to goto a supported language on your OS. If this is more for development and evaluation you can try a couple things. One thing would be to change your local and regional settings to English.
In our testing we actually did not try Traditional Chinese, we tried Simplified Chinese, basically we were hoping it would just work, but we saw multiple errors in the AdminUI and the effort in fixing it did not fit in the schedule.
I apologise about the lack of support for you OS/Language combination.
