English keyboard and using austrian/german characters?

I got my MacBook Pro from the United States but now I got back to Austria. my problem is that I don't have specific characters listed on my English (US) keyboard, such as Ä,Ü, and Ö ( and the lowercase ones too) to do my work here.
I only need those letters since all the other characters (except the Euro-symbol) are on it. Instead of writing Ä, I have to write Ae, i.e. instead of Äpfel, I can only write Aepfel, which looks very ugly. But right now I havent found a way yet to write those letters without having to copy it from somewhere else (it also takes too much time).
I thought about something liek shortcuts but that would probably interfere with other shortcuts. But how about a program that automatically changes Ae (or ae or AE) into Ä?
Or is there a way to change the function of the second 'option/alt' button? Because I never really use the second one and I thought that it also should have a job.
Or would an applescript do it? I've never tried to create one or even thought about trying to make one even thought it seems to look pretty easy. I just dont have the time to learn it...

Thank you for your answer. I tried this before and that's actually alright but its like...I am already used to the U.S. keyboard (like those "~!@#$%^&*()_+"-characters are on different positions; Z is on the Y and Y on the Z button) that I don't really want to have to ook at the keyboard viewer all the time. That does not make me write much faster if I have to look up for the ä,ö, and ü (last time I forgot ß). On the other side, if I would be able just to write ae instead of ä it would be much more faster then to 'click-in-menu-bar-to-change-keyboard-layout-and-try-to-find-those-****-charact ers-and-change-keyboard-layout-to-back-to-U.S." way.
The best way would be a little app, running in the background, automatically changing EVERY ae to ä,oe to Ö, and ue to ü. But at least that should work in Office, which I haven't figured out yet.
Another reason why I don't want to use the german/austrian keyboard layout all the time: I have the US keyboard right in front of me, which is probably the most used one in the world (at least I think so) and I am not going to use the german/austrian keyboard in the very near future.
When I write e-mails or so in german, I always use ue cause it just cost too much time to write it the other way.

If you are using a keyboard made by Apple, then you should normally choose US(Apple) keyboard to make sure that all the characters are typed the way they appear on the keys. If for some reason you are using a Windows keyboard, then you should normally use US instead of US(Apple).
The two versions exist because there can be differences between Apple and other keyboards.
It is not a good idea to "remove" anything. For info on how to deactivate a keyboard in a Windows system, you need to consult the Help for that system or ask in a Windows forum.

Deleted English keyboard and now can't log into iPhone from lock screen

I downloaded SwiftKey for my iPhone 5S after updating to iOS8 and found that it didn't pop up as the default keyboard for the phone. I went to keyboards and deleted the standard, iPhone English keyboard which then made SwiftKey the default. In 20-20 hindsight it was a very stupid thing to do, but it really seemed like a good idea at the time, and it did make SwiftKey the default. Of note, I still had the Hebrew keyboard loaded as a secondary keyboard.
The problem is that when the iPhone locked out, the Hebrew keyboard now comes up in the lock screen. I have no way to switch the lock screen keyboard to English characters so that I can input my password. Effectively, I am now unable to log into my iPhone. I tried turning it off and on and also tried a 'hard reset' by pressing both the power button and the home button until the iPhone reboots. Still no access to the English keyboard on the lock screen....
I have the Phone backed up completely on my computer at home--how do I get the English keyboard back so I can log in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay. I know I'm not the only one who has this problem, because I just answered another query. After playing around with the iPhone a bit and talking to the guy in our IT department I found the answer... I'm posting the answer to my own question so that if anyone else has a problem they can find the solution here.
You will need a computer with iTunes running and your sync cable.
Here's what I found out... If you hold down the power button and the home button for a ridiculously long time (close to a minute and it might cycle through the plain apple picture twice) you eventually will get the a screen that looks that looks like an iPhone sync cord and an arrow pointing to a red iTunes logo.
You can then hook the phone up to your computer, boot up iTunes, and the phone will be recognized by the computer. After that, you simply go to iTunes and pick the option "restore iPhone" and that should work... This will reset your phone to the factory settings.
Once this is done, you can sync to iTunes again and restore all your phone from your iTunes back up. If you don't have a back up, this will probably wipe out the data on the iPhone, but at least you'll have a working phone when you are done.
I'm really kicking myself for removing the English keyboard, but as it was an option to remove it, I couldn't imagine that the phone would have a problem like this if I eliminated it. Apple will really need to rethink this one if they give the option of removing their English keyboard.

My daughter use a none english Keyboard for the passcode.
After connecting it for sync with I-tunes the none english keyboard option disappeared.

What's the model number for the one you're eyeing? Many Logitech products work fine with a Mac, but if you want to check for yourself, take a look through the logitech website: http://www.logitech.com/
If it doesn't state compatibility with a Mac, there's still the possibility it will work. But if you want the least hassle, make sure the one you're looking at is Mac-compatible.

Click on your account name in the top right corner of the iTunes store in the iTunes application on your computer, enter your password and click the "view account" button. Navigate to the Apple ID summary where you have the option to "change country or region".
In order to change your location, you will need a credit card registered to an address in the location you are trying to change to.
You cannot change your location if you have credit on your account, if you are unable to spend your credit and leave a balance of zero, contact Apple, which you can do through iTunes Store Support.
Note however, I would not recommend keep changing stores, in some instances you may find yourself locked out from changing back for 90 days.

[LR2 - SOLUTION] Using Lightroom in englsih with a non-english keyboard layout

Hi, Many of us, non native english speaking LR users, are using LT in english on a system having a non-US keyboard layout. The conseqeunce of this is that we can't reach a lot of keyboard shortcuts because LR doesn't offer any interface for configuring them. However, there's a workaround. I'll explain here what I did for the french language but you can apply this to your own language. For the non english languages, the keyboard shortcuts are defined in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2\Resources\<language>\TranslatedStrings.txt. If you are using LR in english, this file is not used and there's no similar file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2\Resources\en. But you can create one containing only the shortcuts that you need. I have created a new TranslatedStrings.txt file containing only the keyboard shortcuts defined for the french version. I did this by copying only the lines containing the following sequences: ....Key=... ....KeyShifted=... ...AgPanel/LeftPanelShortcut... ...AgPanel/RightPanelShortcut... ...MenuShortcut/DecreaseRating= ...MenuShortcut/IncreaseRating= (french users can find this file here: http://www.mainsoft.fr/Files/LR/TranslatedStrings.txt . Copy this file to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2\Resources\en" and relaunch Lightroom. Now you have the same keyboard shortcuts as when using LR in french. Interestingly enough, if you hit ctrl + < , the LR keyboard shortcut panel is displayed and it shows your new shortcuts. Otherwise, you can use it as a bargaining chip and say ask for a free external International English keyboard and a discount on your next Apple Store purchase… for instance.
Regardless, be polite yet firm with them as you did not get what you ordered.

How to fix shortcuts problems with foreign keyboards and photoshop in english

Some shortcuts won't work with a non english keyboard and you'll have to switch to english keyboard to fix this but it's not always practical

There is too much nonsense talked about HDMI cables. For a start they shouldn't be sold as 1.2/1.3/1.4 etc compatible, the HDMI standard expressly forbids this. There are standard (cat 1 - < 75 MHz) and high speed cables (cat 2 - < 340 MHz) and both will work with the Apple TV.
Strictly speaking a cable should meet the HDMI standards before it can be sold and if it doesn't work you should ask for it to be replaced. Higher cost cables cost more because of quality, quality that is represented in quality control or tolerance, higher price cables will likely have a lower failure rate, but that doesn't mean cheap cables shouldn't work when you buy them.
Uniformity in diameter and in length are paramount. If one component is 1/3200 th of a mm longer than another the signal will become out of sync, variations in diameter can cause the signal to bounce back along the cable.
Personally, I'd never buy an expensive HDMI cable but I'd also avoid the ultra cheap ones, they should work out of the box, but throughout their life they will likely be pulled, bent, tripped over and run over with the vacuum cleaner, better cables are likely to have greater resistance to such treatment.

Ukrainian and English keyboard switching

I have a Logitech Ukrainian English Keyboard, and I have the Ukrainian language keyboard input set in my preferences. For some reason when I am typing in Ukrainian and I need to position my cursor back a space or several to fix a mistake the language defaults to English and I must manually go back and switch back to Ukrainian.
Now I also have a Apple Russian/English Keyboard and the same problem.
I type my documents in multi languages (sometimes), and it is most annoying when I switch to Russian or Ukrainian and go back to do and edit to have it default back to English.
What can I do to keep the language up until I decide to change it not the Mac???

On a side note: Every PC Clone shop I have visited has a zillion PC's, but they will install your software for you and for some reason you never get the disks... lol
They have tons of printers but finding the ink to replace is difficult if you are looking for Epson or HP, but if you want ColorWay or some other after market ink well no problem.

Finding an original un opened factory sealed copy of Windows 7 took a week of searching in my town, it was only available in Russian (not even Ukrainian which I would have preferred over Russian) the chain store had one copy of each version and Ultimate was $380 or 3000UAH.
At one of the 4 stores in Kiev (iStore) that sells Macs only, I scored iPods, Snow Lep in Russian, and Apple Keyboards all from Apple and factory sealed. They have iPads and minimal support for repair of the products they stock, so it is not so bad, but Kiev is an hour away by bus. Longer on donkey cart. NO iPhones.
So in the end, if the only real problem I have ever had with any of my Macs is the stupid keyboard switching back and forth on occasion, I guess I can't really complain. For all of these years they have been hassle free, two virus attacks since 1984. Two actual hardware failures since 1984 ... I buy new iMacs when I feel the need to go shopping or something looks just too good to pass up.

Macbook bought in France with a international english keyboard problem

My friend bought a macbook for france apple online store, he choosed a international english keyboard layout, but when he got it, he found that the keyboard is neither english laybout nor french layout, because there is not any configurations that matches his physical keyboard buttons.
The A - Z buttons is as the US keyboard, but the ;'~`[](){}/?! etc. are not correct, that means when u choose the US layout from the system preference->international, the A - Z work, but the ;'~`[](){}/?! are not at where u see them, when u choose FR layout, A - Z are not correct, british english doesn't work, too.
I have tried all the english countries and french countries, but no one works with 100% of the buttons.
Can Apple give me a solution to the problem? or if the macbook that he got is not well assembled?

German characters on Solaris

Hi,
I have problems using the german characters on Weblogic 6.0 and Solaris. If I
type one of the german letters (like ü) within the weblogic console it is changed
to a 'ý' when I press apply.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this or what could be the reason? I suspect
that it might be the solaris that is configured wrong. How do I check the locale
setting on solaris?
Using Weblogic 6.0 and Solaris 2.6.

English keyboard instead of french !

When I enter a caption in LR (french version), "a" is entered instead of "q" and "q" instead of "a".
On english keyboard, first letter is "q" on first raw and "a" in second raw.
On french one, first letter is "a" on first raw and "q" in second raw.
So, it seems that LR works as if I had an english keyboard.
Of course, others softwares (Word, Photoshop...) dont make this mistake...
Does anybody knows what I am doing wrong ?

Sorry I can't be more precise but I'm sitting on a German PC and it took me ages to find it the first time round. However, in XP there are 2 ways to change the layout of your keyboard. The first (and only if you have in the Taskbar (bottom right) a small icon indicating which language your keyboard currently is set to. By right clicking on this you can bring up a menu in which you can add another language. I regularly switch between a German and English keyboard and have set a keyboard shortcut (Alt + Shift) to do this. You can also set your own preference within the menu. If the current keyboard setting is not present in the Taskbar than I'm afraid you'll have to go diving in the Help file - changing keyboard - or something like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this time - it is there, it is an option, you'll just have to find it.

Using alpha-numeric characters as plotchart itemrenderers

I understand, a developer can import a gif or jpg image to use as a custom itemrenderer in a plotchart. I would like to be a litte more simple and use alpha-numeric characters as the itemrenderer. For example, a plot chart describing some data for Argentina and Brazil would contain a bunch of A's and B's scattered about the plotchart. Is there an easy way to do this without resorted to creating gifs and jpegs for each character I'd need to use.

Essentially no. On a Mac you use either the Character Palette or a keyboard shortcut like Option/Alt + g (which gives ©).
There is however a special software keyboard layout called Uncode Hex Input which lets you input Alt + the Unicode hex codepoint to produce characters. With that layout active, Alt + 00A9 gives you ©.

Can I run two midi controllers (keyboard and pad) at the same time?

Yes.
set 2 instruments to different midi channels.set the keyboard and pad to match.
record enable both tracks in arrange.
check: file/song settings/recording/auto demix by channel if multi-track recording
this will allow you to record them both.
