English USA Dictionary problems

The word fulfillment is in the USA dictionary twice. Once as fulfillment and again as fulfilment.
Pretty odd if you ask me. It came up because both spellings of fulfillment were in one document and a proofreader wondered why fulfilment didn't come up in a spellcheck.
I added fulfilment to the Remove Words list and that took care of it.
Any way that Adobe can fix this, or give a reason why it's in the English USA dictionary with two different spellings?

Thanks Peter. And yes, bless our proofreaders, I happen to work with some of the best.
I just found it odd, and I'm sure there are other words like fulfillment/fulfilment. Everything I looked up regarding fulfilment said that the single l version was UK spelling so I found it odd that it would be in the USA English.

  • Converting a German dictionary to English: USA dictionary

A German-based office sent me an InDesign file (CS3) and the Spell check is showing words as misspelled even through they are not. It is using a German dictionary, German: 1996 Reform, and that is what is creating the conflict.
How do I convert the German dictionary or get rid of that dictionary and make it use my preference of the Enlish: USA dictionary which I've defined in my InDesign Preferences. It appears that even though I tell it to use the US dictionary, it won't let go of the German dictionary.
Was is going on? Haben si ein answer? Danke!

The dictionary preference has nothing to do withthe language assigned to the text. That's a character-level attribute. The preference item allows you to pick which dictionary vendor to use in those cases where more than one dictionary is installed.
To change th language you must selet all the text, then choose the correct language from the language drop-down in the Character Panel or Control Panel. You might want to leave any German words set to German...

  • Firefox English GB Dictionary not working, why not?

I had three dictionaries installed and working fine in conjunction with spellchecker in FF 19 - but having updated to FF 22.0 only English (United States) is included. I have added English-gb numerous times and done numerous reboots and or FF restarts but the English-gb is simply not an option when spelling check queries spelling. The English-gb dictionary shows up in my add-ons but it simply does not work. (the add-on is not disabled either).
Also adding words to a dictionary doesn't appear to work either and may be related.
To summerise: The English-gb dictionary is added as an active add-on but it does not work!
    Operating system Windows 7 Ultimate.

Try to disable all other extensions.
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.
You can also try to delete the localstore.rdf file and the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Pervasive USA dictionary

I have the UK dictionary set in "Dictionary" and in "Auto correct" preferences but the spell checker still reverts to "English: USA". Is this a CIA plot? How do I make "English: UK" stick?

Good thinking 99. I checked my styles and the CIA haven't hacked them, but it seems somehow they have hacked some text imported from that old CIA cover: MS Word. The old US English in the MS Word Document trick. I selected all the text and noticed that "Language" in the Character Palette went blank, so I selected UK English and everything was fine. Sorry about that, Chief.

  • French-English Language/Dictionary apps

I will be studying in France from January to April and I will have limited access to the internet where I will be staying. Since I will not have access to internet dictionaries and conjugators, can anyone recommend a French-English and English-French dictionary application? Is anyone aware of one that can conjugate French verbs as well? (definitely not necessary, but would be helpful...)

  • How to download and Install bos.loc.utf.EN_US Package for the Oracle BI locale setting english-usa language in Windows 7 64bit

OBIEE 11G Installation error during configuration steps with message "Distributing Repository" failed.
I searched lot of forums but all they say, install bos.loc.utf.EN_US Package for the Oracle BI locale setting english-usa language. From where we can download this package.
    Thanks in advance.

But I am assuming that when I make the installer, the 32-bit Run Time Engine is appened with the installer, as show below
Since from the picture you can see its including the support installers from '\Program Files (x86)\'
The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).
I am not using any driver, only toolkits for reports - and for that I un-checked the "Remove unused polymorphic VI instances" when making the executable, otherwise LV throws up an exception that share variable are not being included.
Yes I did reboot every time after I ran the installation.
    Still getting the same error.

  • I need an English/ Norwegian dictionary for my Mac can you help??

I need an English/ Norwegian dictionary for my Mac.   can you help??
I need this for translation both ways!!

Firefox 4 requires MacOS X 10.5 or 10.6. Sorry about that. You can update to 3.6.17, but that is the end of the road for MacOS X 10.4.
Actually, there's an unofficial release of Firefox code tweaked for 10.4 users with PowerPC processors. http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Before playing, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

  • Can we get the list of words with hyphenation breaking used in English:US dictionary?

    Hi,
I require list of words with hyphenation breaking used in English:US dictionary. I have reviewed in InDesign supporting files in my local folder but I couldn't get. Can anybody assist?
    regards
    Masthan

InDesign uses Proximity dictionaries for most languages to verify spelling and to hyphenate words. You can add words to each dictionary to customize it. You can assign different languages to text, and InDesign uses the appropriate dictionary to handle spelling and hyphenation.
There are possible breakpoints the dictionary will consider and then show up in the InDesign , if you want to know between which two syllables Indesign’s dictionary prefers to hyphenate, and what other possible breakpoints the dictionary will consider.
Choose Edit > Spelling > User Dictionary.
In the Language menu, choose a language. Each language contains at least one dictionary. If you want the word to be added to all languages, choose All Languages.
In the Target menu, choose the dictionary where you want to store the word. The Target menu lets you store the changes in an external user dictionary or in any open document.
In the Dictionary List menu, choose Added Words.
In the Word box, type or edit the word to be added to the word list.
Click Hyphenate to see the word’s default hyphenation. Tildes (~) indicate possible hyphenation points.
If you don’t like the hyphenation points, follow these guidelines to indicate your preferred hyphenation of the word:
Type one tilde (~) to indicate the best possible hyphenation points, or the only acceptable hyphenation point, in the word.
Type two tildes (~~) to indicate your second choice.
Type three tildes (~~~) to indicate a poor but acceptable hyphenation point.
If you want the word never to be hyphenated, type a tilde before its first letter. If you need to include an actual tilde in a word, type a backslash before the tilde (\~).
Click Add, and then click Done. The word is added to the currently selected Dictionary List.
Note: Remember that hyphenation points interact with the hyphenation settings in your documents. As a result, the word might not break where you expect it to. Control these settings by choosing Hyphenation in the Paragraph panel menu.
By default, hyphenation and spelling exceptions are located in user dictionary files stored outside the document on the computer where InDesign is installed (dictionary file names end with a .clam or .not extension). However, you can also store exception lists inside any InDesign document. In addition, you can store word lists in an external user dictionary, in the document, or in both. The location of existing dictionaries appears in the Dictionary preferences.

  • Iphone and installing an English/Spanish Dictionary

I am looking for a way to put an English/Spanish dictionary on my iphone. My guess is that I need to purchase an English/Spanish dictionary CD Book. Any suggestions of where I might purchase something like this or is there a better solution? I want to be able to use it without being on the internet. Thanks,

For now I'd recommend going online and finding a webpage that translates English to Spanish reliably and then use that. You could even add the icon to you your home screen if you've got the 1.1.3 update. Since you've got the edge for internet this could work pretty well for you.

  • How do I uninstall the standard American dictionary? I only want to use the English/Australian dictionary.

I do not want to use the default American dictionary. Although I have the English/Australian dictionary installed, every time I use a word that in Australia has an 's' but in the States has a 'z' the word in highlighted as incorrect. For example. Australia: 'organisation'. US: 'organization' - the word 'organisation' is highlighted as an error although it is not. In other words, the US dictionary takes precedence over my installed English/Australian dictionary which makes that English dictionary totally superfluous and makes me wonder why it's offered in the first place. I would like to remove the US dictionary but can't find it to kill it.

A possibility is to install the en-GB Firefox version as that version doesn't come with a dictionary like the en-US version does.
Otherwise you can find the en-US dictionary files in the dictionaries folder in the Firefox program folder and remove them there.
    *(32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    *(64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.<br />
At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.
*Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
*Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can look here for dictionaries:
