Enhance resolution

how do i enhance the resolution for better print quality. its a small picture that i want to print out poster size.

Think of it this way: your small picture is made of a certain number of pixels.
To make it a bigger picture you have to stretch those same pixels over a bigger distance. This will leave gaps which have to be filled.
The software fills in the gaps by inventing pixels and it will look terrible.
That is a long way of saying what Bart said.

  • A few questions for Iphone Owners...

Ive watched the videos, ive read the forums for a few days now, but still have some questions.
    1) can you record your phone calls from the iphone? I havent seen anyone mention this. Can you at least record memos with it or do you have to make memos with text only?
Its nice to be able to be somewhere and record a voice memo.
    2) One thing I hate about verizon is the minute long triad people get after they hear my voice mail greeting. At least when i had sprint I could go into advanced options and turn off all the crap after my voice mail greeting to spare the poor caller anymore of his/her time after my greeting. Is there a way to do this with AT&T? I swear its the wireless carriers trying to milk more than a minute out of you so they can get another minute to bill you for when you call someone from your cell phone.
    3) Lastly, how is the picture quality with the phone? Ive owned a LG chocolate, a razor, a ppc 6700, a sanyo , etc and Ive yet to even be partially impressed with a camera phone. I think my LG is the closest Ive ever got to a "okay " picture. Im not picky, just a picture that isnt blurry would be nice. Is it that much to ask to take a picture of a kid that is hardly moving and not have it be blurry? Or one outside that doesent become washed out from the bright light? Im not sure what people are even using camera phones for, but Im guessing they are about as usefull as web browsers in previous cell phones (ie, worthelss). Does the iphone hold its own in this regard or is the same old cellphone camera as the rest of them?
Thanks for any replies. Just as a side note, one of the reasons im looking at the iphone is one I havent seen anyone list on the apple forum. UPDATES! Im no apple fanboy, but I give them credit for constantly fixing/improving the ipod and listening to the customers. If there is one reason above any other for owning the iphone, its that I belive apple will constantly be fixing/improving/ etc the iphone throughout its life cycle and you cant say that about any other phone mfg. The most you get out of them is some firmware updates if there is a serious flaw. And even then they only are fixing it becuase they advertised it and if they dont fix it they will get sued. My 2 cents anyway..

    1) There is no voice nor video recording functionality on the iPhone
    2) Sorry but I haven't actually tried voicemail yet from an incoming caller's perspective. The visual voicemail system itself is fantastic though - to be able to pick and choose the messages you want to hear in any order is great.
    3) The screen on the iPhone is absolutely stunning. I actually just stared at the picture of the Earth from space that is on the screen prior to activation just because it looked so good. Videos also play very nicely though with the enhanced resolution of this screen, you will notice conversion artifacts more easily than on the much smaller regular iPod screen. But this is not an iPhone issue but rather due to the parameters set by the end user when converting video.
I am very happy I got this phone and with knowing how well Apple handles software updates, I know even this version 1.0 hardware will get even better.

  • USB to DVI...

I have an Infocus Home Theater projector with a DVI port that I'd like to try out--my home DVD player only goes "up" to component cables and I'd like to experience that digital image. Is there a way to use my USB port from my Mac to convert the signal to DVI and get that enhanced resolution?
    Thanks for any input!

    Welcome to the discussions!
No, there is no USB/DVI converter, but you can get a mini-DVI to DVI adapter found HERE from Apple and that will do the trick.

  • Text displays too small in mail app

    Help!
I just received the 15" MacBook Pro with enhanced resolution screen (not the Retina display).  At the highest resolution, all of the fonts display incredibily small.  However, the lower resolution options don't seem to match the aspect ratio of the screen and create distortion.  I can deal with this on Safari because it allows pinch and zoom resizing.  However, I have not figured out how to zoom in on the Mail app.  Using Command + is not a good solution because it actually increases the font size that the recipient views.  I have to go all the to 30pt font to make it comfortable to view.  Also, using Control and two finger swipe to zoom in a poor option as well because not everything will display.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that you are having a problem with emails sent in html format from certain contacts.  I had the same problem, and I found this to fix it:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Open the Terminal and type in the following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 12
    3. Restart Mail.app and your HTML messages are readable.
You don't have to choose 12 point. Select whatever you like.

  • Compatibility? TV is not widescreen, but is HD

I have a Sony KV-32HS510 TV that I am wondering if it will be compatible with Apple TV. It's a standard format (4:3) screen, but it is HD. You have to watch the HD channels with bars across the top.
Does anybody know if this type of TV works with Aplle TV, and what special cable I might need.

I have a Sony KP-53HS10 which is a 4:3 projection TV that supports 1080i and 480p on its component inputs and my Sony works fine with the Apple TV. As long as you have component or HDMI inputs on your TV with a wide-screen mode (16:9) it should work. You can even use DVI if you buy an HDMI to DVI adapter (for example, I've connected my Apple TV to my Apple Cinema Display using just such an adapter). I've also connected the Apple TV to a Sharp 13" enhanced resolution LCD TV that has a 16:9 mode for compatibility with 720p and 1080i inputs (over its component inputs).
I suspect that your TV has HD-compatible component inputs which SHOULD work with the Apple TV (not to be confused with a simple composite video input or even s-video which will NOT work).
According to the specs on Amazon, it looks like you have a nice TV and it should definitely work with the Apple TV. Here is what Amazon says about your model:
Compatible with 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i formats; Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction feature upconverts analog NTSC signals to near-HD quality
DVI input (rear), 2 component inputs (rear), analog audio output (rear), 4 A/V inputs (3 front, 1 rear), 3 S-Video inputs (2 front, 1 rear), and 1 each S-Link output and input

  • [SOLVED] fbsplash working but have a created future problems?

I'm new to arch but have managed to successfully install fbcondecor and fbsplash and manipulate them to at least a reasonable degree to get the desired effect.  However my tech-speak is poor so please bear with me.
The problem is that my splash screen seems to look fine, initially.  Then, however, when Vesa hands off to inteldrm the graphics get distorted. I believe it is whenever the screen resolution change occurs during the boot (which is why i believe it occurs during the handoff).  I have listed my grub configuration files as well as my daemons and Hooks below in hopes one of you guys may recognize an error.  I have read and attempted to resolve the issue but it is clear I cannot solve it without some assistance from someone with a deeper knowledge.
This is what my screen looks like https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=136819 so I'm guessing it relates to the KMS but I configured the file in accordance with the wiki so...
Edit:  Another possibly pertinent note is that the splash works perfectly on shutdown.

What should I be looking for to solve this problem?  What occurs that changes the screen from the basic resolution it starts with to the enhanced resolution in the next portion of boot?  Should I post dmesg output?

The question here is, why does it get loaded in the first place, usually it's loaded by the vga= statement. I'm guessing the monstrosity that is grub2 has something to do with it, remove all the GFX stuff from it's config.
Thanks for your input.  You are correct in your assumption about my screen resolution being 1366x768.  I am having trouble understanding what you mean by "remove all the GFX stuff".  Do you mean for me to change my /etc/default/grub file and leave blank all of the categories that include "GFX" and then mkconfig?  Or are you proposing that I manually modify something in the grub.cfg to disable the graphics mode in grub2?
One other quick note.  It seems that before Vesa hands off to inteldrm the splash looks as intended.  It is after this hand off takes place that the splash becomes distorted (4 different occurences of the splash across the screen, all of them appearing shredded and smeared across the screen).
Edit:  Another possibly pertinent note is that the splash works perfectly on shutdown.
Also, for further reference I have posted both my /etc/default/grub & /boot/grub/grub.cfg below.

  • DualDisc not recognized by DVD Drive

Presently, I can't get the CD-Audio side of a dualdisc to respond in my DVD drive in my dual G-5. I can use Itunes on my PC to rip the audio, but since my collection is primarily on my Mac, I'd prefer to do it there.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi--
The whole next generation audio thing is frustrating
in general, tell the truth. If I had my way, it'd be
    SACD all the way anyway
I think I'd agree on that, though I have one SACD dual-layer that won't work in the CD player in one of my cars. It just skips like mad. But it's fine in all my other CD players.
Forgoing album art and easy mac-compatibility, I
still prefer to have enhanced resolution audio or
multichannel when I can. ***** sometimes to be on
    the bleeding edge.
It's not just Macs that have problems with the DualDisc, though. I've heard of car stereos having problems, along with some PCs as well. I have an old FireWire CD drive I've found works pretty well for the DualDiscs. And I've had pretty good luck with two different PowerBooks. Not with an iMac G5, though.

  • New MacBook Pros with Nehalem Core i5 / i7 Architecture...

Did they finally upgrade the iSight Webcams on these new MacBook Pros to provide a slower shutter speed for better light exposure and enhanced resolution? The Specs on these new MacBooks don't specify whether or not they've enhanced the iSight cameras.

Can't say for sure but I'm guessing if they improved the iSight camera on the new laptops it would be mentioned in the literature.

  • Why does Auto-enhance reduce resolution?

I noticed when I apply auto-enhance to pictures taken on my iPhone 4S, the resolution in the EXIF data shows just over 3MP. I did a before and after and saw a huge drop in resolution. 3264x2448 without auto-enhance and 1536x2048 with auto-enhance used. No cropping was done. The only edit applied was auto-enhance. Why does the resolution get reduced fom 10mp to just over 3mp?

Any time you encode, or edit, a jpeg file, which is a type of picture file, it reduces the quality of the picture and to make up for the loss the resolution is lowered

  • Is possible to enhance the resolution of a FLV

I have downloaded some FLV videos from many sources like Youtube, Vimeo and Daily Motion.
Is it possible to enhance the resolution of this videos to be watched in a HD television?
I have tried the video conversion using flv converter to pass from flv to formats like avi, but the quality is not good.
I think that maybe if i mantain the video fromat is it possible to enhance the resolution and get a better image.
Is there a tool or a flash player that can enhance the resolution of a video downloaded from the web?
    Thanks
    Joan

Without the original FLA file or video (AVI, WMV etc.) it was created from the answer is... to put it bluntly... no.
One drawback of YouTube downloaders is they are WYSIWYG. They download videos in a FLV format with whatever resolution they are on the site, which is, to keep from taxing bandwidth, low res, and small size. 460 x 320 usually at the most.
Blowing those up to the size of a TV screen blurs them terribly.
    By example:
A standard def DVD is 4.3 gigs
An HD DVD is around 7.6 gigs
A "ripped" DVD (AVI) as anywhere from 700Mb to over a gig and a quarter.
A high quality MPEG is about 100MB per minute.
The average FLV downloaded through a YouTube downloader is about 4Mb.
1 Mb per minute vs 100.
The compression that goes into making a video suitable for a site that has billions of views of millions of videos hourly, degrades the qualtiy tremendously to accomodate streaming bandwidth. They have to be made for a 5 inch by 3 inch viewer.

  • ENHANCEMENT:  Automatic resolution of Discussions URLs

As suggested by Host Kady, we are now extracting Bugs and Enhancements from our consolidation threads, and re-posting them individually.
    Reported by Da Gopha:
In the Old Discussions, copying and pasting in a link to a Discussions URL caused the automatic resolution of that URL into a meaningful subject line and description. This no longer occurs.
    Kind regards,
