Enhance Timing

Im trying to Enhance the Timing, can anybody explain how to do it, the help menu is useless, cant work it out

You mean the enhance timing function like in Garageband?
Then look for "flex timing" or "Audio Quantizing" in the help menus. With Logic Express 9, this is very convenient.

  • Real Instruments, Enhance Tuning, Enhance Timing, Etc?

    Hi,
I am having trouble getting to the Real Instruments, Enhance Tuning, Enhance Timing, area of GB3.
I see the window partially, but not enough to move the sliders, while seeing there placement..
I'm sure there's something I'm unaware of to get the full view, and I've snapped a screen shot to show what I'm talking about, if anyone is interested..
    Thanks For Any Help,
    Eric

    Hang-
I have a work around I kind of stumbled onto..
    http://members.aol.com/unkie/GB3-pict-2.gif
After you select the Real Instrument track you'd like to correct the pitch or timing of, you hit the "I" for track information, then you can click on the region arrow,(?) and the Enhancing area opens up properly.
Check out the picture linked above, and below I will place the before shot link..
The preference not coming up seems to be linked to using iChat, believe it or not..
I read it here in the forum.
If you open iChat, and then Garageband 3, your preference pane may not open up, until you reboot your computer.
    Strange but true..
HangTime, Thanks for "Hanging" in there with me through this dilemma..
    Take Care,

  • Enhance Timing Problem

Anyone notice that when Enhance Timing is applied to an audio track, that track takes a couple of seconds to start playback? I'm sure it has to do with the time it takes for the real-time processing to kick in, but it's a problem when trying to export the song to disk and that track doesn't start right away...

That didn't seem to work. I locked the bass track, but there's still a pause before that track starts when I play the song from the start.

  • Enhance timing....how to use it?

I have a kick drum track that could use a bit of enhancement as far as timing is concerned. i played around with the enhance timing feature, but it only seems to make it worse. any suggestions as to the proper way to use this feature? thanks in advance.
    jon

Is you kick drum a real recording? A real instrument, the pitch enhancement will move a note to the closest grid position to it, depending on how you had the grid set. I have a bass track, that was done with a triplets grid, and I can't seem to change it from triplets. So, moving the slider will align the notes according to the grid setting below the slider. If you click on it, you'll see some other grid choices. If it seems to be moving the notes a lot further than you want, you may need to set it for more grid positions, so it snaps to a position closer to where the note actually is. I have not been entirely happy with the results I have got, and on some instruments, like bass, I have actually gone into the editor, and split the regions, and physically moved the notes myself. Of course with some instruments, with sustained notes, that isn't always the best way, either. But it worked for the song I did it on.

  • Enhance Timing/Align to Slider not working

I can't get my "Enhance Timing/Align to" slider to work. It is white - not blue. Even after I perform a quantization in a MIDI track and the notes snap to grid, it won't work. From what I understand, I should be able to move the slider at this point so that I can adjust how much quantization actually happens.

Probably not many DIYers here. Check this site http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPad

  • Enhance Timing missing!

In the plugin drop down on a given track, the Enhance Timing plugin is missing. It does not show up! Please help! When i check the application support, i see the plugin! why won't it show up in logic express 8?

basically, the only way that Enhance Timing will work is if it is FIRST plug-in at the top of the plug-in fields.

  • Note length/timing correction

When I play some notes using the musical typing keyboard, then open the track editor and view the notation view, I notice the notation view doesn't EXACTLY correspond to the notes I played. For example, I held the note a bit longer or didn't hit it exactly on the down-beat.
Is there any way to play the notes AS SHOWN in notation view? That is, I would like to correct any inaccuracies in tempo or note length.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. What is piano roll view?
the initial view that the track editor displays., if you're in notation view, click the icon with two offset bars next to the note icon.
I guess the enhance timing does part of what I want, but the notes are still dragging on longer than they appear from the notes.
the enhace timing function can alter your live playing too, forcing notes to be "on the money"
still, the bottom line is that musical typing just really doesn't work that well.
MIDIKeys, at least in the past, has worked much better then the built in MT keyboard. you can find a link to it here:

  • Fixing bad timing

I have a brand new Mac and I just started using GarageBand. I recorded some tracks with very bad timing. The automatic timing correction does not help because the recorded tracks are so bad. How can I manually adjust the timing of individual notes? Similarly, how can I manually adjust the timing of the entire track (slide it left or right a small amount)?

if it's a MIDI recording ("Software") then open the track editor pane to move the notes around:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#opentrackeditorpane
(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
if it's an audio recording, there's nothing else besides the Enhance Timing slider.

click and drag the region within the track to the left or right

  • With Logic 8 Is it Possible To....?

Play into it live on an audio track using my external synth's and "correct" my timing. Im not the "best" player be ANY stretch of the imagination but i would LOVE to play into Logic live and some how "fix" the audio so its on time with all the other tracks. I guess what im looking for is to somehow "quantize" the audio.

    Hi,
Of course it is. You could try the 'Enhance Timing' plugin for starters. Alternatively, if your synth has MIDI capabilities, you could record the MIDI rather than the audio output. Then you'll have access to the more traditional MIDI quantize features. When you're ready you can record the audio into the arrangement.

    Bryan.

  • Import audiofile

    Hello,
Can anyone help me with an import audiofile problem?
I want to import a mp3 file with a voice recording. After that I want to add midi instruments (drums, bass etc.). In order to make a sharp mix I would like the mp3-file to be lined out in a certain tempo. I don't really know how many BPM the mp3 is in.
Can I get Garageband to analyse this and line out the mp3?
    thanks
    Roelof-Jan

After bringing the mp3 file into GB select the recorded region and in the Track Editor be sure Follow Tempo & Pitch is unselected. This way you can adjust the Project BPM without affecting the original.
Then try to estimate the beat as close as you can and set the bpm. You maybe can use the Metronome to get as close as possible. Then you can create your beat. If there is drift in the tempo (depending on the original recording) you may need to keep your beats short and loop them, OR play along with the recording for a while or throughout to match its tempo.
You could also try using Enhance Timing on the original but I don't know how good the results will be.

  • GB keeps changing the tempo on my real instrument track!

Hey, newbie here with a problem. I know that by default GB will change real instrument tracks to match the project tempo. So whenever I create a new track for a real instrument, I open up the track editor to unclick the box for this option. First of all, it doesn't even let me access the box unless I first record something in the track. Then, even if I uncheck the box, as soon as I go to create a new track, GB changes the tempo and I see the box checked again! It's like the program wants to do this no matter what. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out. It's driving me nuts and made me waste a lot of time. Help!

To answer the last post you left in the GB1 forum...
You're still not understanding what I said. GB does not change the tempo of what you played to match the projects tempo UNLESS you change the tempo of the project after you've recorded the track.
There is an Enhance Timing feature you can turn on which will try to make your playing match the projects tempo, but here is the clearest example I can give:
If you set the project tempo to 40, and then you play some guitar at a tempo of 200, GB will not do anything to change that. Your playing will still be at 200BPM. All GB is in this case is a "Tape Recorder".

  • Freeze files sound dull

hi, I feel that my tracks sound less good when I freeze them. It sounds crazy, but i'm pretty convinced. I tried to listen to a track first freezed, and then unfreezed it and listened again. The unfrozen tracks sound edgier and even louder. Any ideas what this could mean? Is there something wrong with my audio settings? I especially find this problem on tracks where I used the Enhance Timing effect.
    best- wtk

    I agree Bee Jay,
Some modulations in synths(ES1,ES2,Sculpture,etc...), and some effects(Autofilter) do not playback the exact same way each time you playback. They are "random" modulations, which are not exactly synched to a definite position in the timeline.
That is why the phase cancellation test will not work, ever.
As to the track sounding "duller" after being frozen, mayeb a plugin is not being rendered properly.
Can you elaborate as to the exact plugins used in your dull-sounding freezer-burned track? This might give someone a clue...
    Cheers

  • Garageband guitar lags on macbook

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this one...
Just got my new macbook 2.4ghz with 2gb RAM, plugged in my guitar with the griffin lead I've used for a few years with my G4 iMac, and the guitar from the macbook speakers lags way behind what I play.
Garageband works great on my G4 iMac, so I kind of figured it would be better on macbook! What's happening? is it the new garageband? the audio in?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Steve

Turn the "Enhance timing" down in garageband located in the lower left corner when you open the edit bar, this botton is located next to the "EYE" botton or go into preferences and Adjust the audio settings.

  • Quantizing Audio Tracks without Strip Silence?

    Hi Y'all,
I'm kind of a nube, but I cannot figure this out. I've figured out from other folks' posts that the "strip silence" feature is only for Logic Pro (right?). So, that being the case, how do I quantize my audio tracks? For example, a common scenario is I play several bars of 8th notes on my guitar, and, having no rythym, I want to quantize them. Here is what I am doing now:
    1. Cut the audio file with scissors into individual notes
    2. Arrange the anchor point of each individual 8th note to the peak
    3. Quantize them in the Event list.
This works, but it's super labor intensive, and hard on the old carpal tunnels. Is there an easier way, short of buying Logic Pro? Many thanks. - Josh

Hi, try to use the "Enhance Timing" Plug-In on the Guitartrack.
It has to be inserted in the first slot of the channel strip.
