Enhanced / Double Sided DVD

Hello All
I have a project that I need to create an enhanced DVD. This DVD can play in a standard, run-of-the-mill player, but then can be inserted into a PC to view additional information (PDFs, QTVR files, etc.).
Can Studio Pro do this? I am up against a hard deadline and I'm scrambling to get this done. All the software programs I have been using have had some sort of a glitch and keep sending me back to 1.
Thanks and any information or guidance would be most appreciated!!
Keith

It doesn't HAVE to be double sided.
You can add ROM-Data to the same side of the disc as the DVD-Video stuff. Yep dvdsp can do that. You may want to add a DVD-Rom menu which lets users know there is ROM content and where to find it when they explore the disc...
You can launch files with eDVD (Sonic) and DVD@ccess but that is a whole different ball game...
If not you can just use Toast to burn the Data side master and author the DVD-Video side in whatever authoring tool you want,

  • Double Sided DVD format burning question

    Hi,
I have the latest version of DVDSP and wish to know if it is possible to burn a each side of double sided DVD in different formatts. Specifically, I wish to make one side a DVD disc, and the other side a DVD ROM disc that will contain AIFF or MP3 files to be imported into iTunes or simply played, by double clicking on the files, from the DVD disc itself. I would assume to burn the DVD ROM side, I would use the finder, or Toast, correct?
    thanks in advance.

    Ari,
There are a number of places you can get double sided media, here's an example:
    http://www.meritline.com/meritline/dvd-r-blank-media-94.html
You can indeed have dvd video on one side, and dvd rom material on the other. I would make a couple of cautionary notes however. One, unless there is great disparity between the size of the content on one side or the other (the larger the content in size, the larger the 'burn' ring on that particular side), then it will be hard to tell which side you have in before playing. There are small, inner ring labels that you can apply, but I'm personally not a big fan of sticky labels. Two, it's easy for the user to damage one side or the other since there is no 'label side' to use when handling the disc. It doesn't take very much in terms of a finger smudge or scratch to make a disc perform poorly on some computers or set top players.
Alternatives would obviously be to have two separate, single sided discs. If the total content (your dvd video and separate audio files) is less than a single sided disc, then you could put them all on a single sided disc and burn it through DVDSP with the added ROM content folder with your audio files. It should play the video content just fine, and the user can just open the folder on the disc and import/use the audio files. If the content would exceed a single layer, single sided disc; then a dual layer, single sided disc would be another option.

  • Double sided DVDs option

Hi, In Encore CS5 under Build there is an option to click on side 1 or side 2 for a 2 sided DVD. I have read what it says in the manual and I still don't understand this option. Is there any purpose to this Option other than a notation to the user reminding him/her what side the project is recorded on? If there is a purpose what is it and how do you use/set this up in detail, please? I don't see a way to specify, lets say, one timeline is recorded to side #1 and a second time line recorded to side #2. If this does not work that way or there is really no purpose for this option then what I described above might be a good Update Feature for the next version of Encore.  John gerard

    Hi John,
In the "build table" you can choose:
    -DVD or Bluray
-Direct burn DVD or Write a folder or Image (these last two allows you to save discs in case something should go wrong).
When you have done it, at the bottom, you can choose a standard DVD 4,7Gb, or a double sided DVD 8,5 Gb or a "custom dvd" where the space is up to you.
At this point you have two choices:
Let Encore do everything: in this case En will decide when the switch from the first side to the second one will be made.
You decide the switch point, chosen possibly in the middle of the movie or in a point that prevent an huge data in one side only.
Concerning your question I think there is a difference between layer and side.
Double sided discs are "pretty old" devices where two different sequences are recorded in a separate way.
Double layer disc are the common DVD sold today.
Both dual-layer and double-sided DVDs use the same technology to record and reproduce data. A laser creates tiny pits on the disc's reflective surface. During playback, the laser shines into the pits and a small optical sensor records the position of the pits based on when the laser reflects off the remaining reflective surface. Dual-layer DVDs have a semitransparent bottom layer and the DVD player's reading laser can focus on either layer to read data.
    Hope this help

  • Double sided VPC/enhanced VPC and MST

    Hello,
I have some doubts/clarifications regarding MST with VPC--
There are two N7K core switches and four N5K switches and eight N2K.
there will be double sided VPC between N5K and N7K.
there will be enhanced vpn between N5k and n2k.
N7Ks will be connected to fifteen 4500.
Each 4500 will be in a VPC with N7k.
Each 4500 is single homed to 15 catalyst edge switches
Assume MST needs be configured in this network.
    1) On MST instance  - on N7K as per cisco design guide
    2) Map all vlans (1-3967,4048-4093) in this instance N7K as per cisco design guide
    3) No need to hard code root as peer switch command will be used
Now the concern that i have is regarding MSt configuration on all 4500.
    1) 4500 number 1 may have vlans 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 4500 number 2 may have vlans 2,11,12,13,14,15,16
so can i just map all vlans to the single instance like instance 1 vlan 1-4094 on all catalysts 4500?
    2) catalyst edge switches all run PVST+, i believe 4500 mst will interoperate with edge switch pvst+.
Is there any othe things that need tobe taken care of in this scenario?
    Regards

    1) If you are using MST with single region, I don't see the point. It can be done with RPVST+ without any interop worries.
    2) Same as 1.
    3) This is not true, with peer-switch feature, it is a BP to hard code the N7K as STP root with the same priority value, otherwise, the smallest switch ID will be the root. In you case, most likely the oldest switch will become the root if you don't hard code it.
To your second set of questions:
    1) Yes, you need to match all your region(s) with the same VLANs, otherwise, you will have MST inconsistency.
    2) Yes.

  • Getting "layer break" error message when trying to Preview a single sided DVD, or build an ISO image or disk folder

Hi!  Hoping someone might be able to help with an odd problem.  I haven't found anything in the forums or the web that match my symptoms.
I've been using Encore CS6 (v6.0.1.013) on a MacBook retina over the past year to successfully create a number of single sided DVDs with menus, chapters, and all that.  I usually make a copy of a previous DVD project, and then replace video assets with the new files and transcodes, move and rename chapter markers, and rework the menus in Photoshop.  I then will build ISO images for both DVD and Blu-Ray (both single-sided), and use those to burn many copies of each DVD for clients.
This week, while developing one of these projects, when trying to build a DVD ISO image that looked like it would fit on a 4.7 GB DVD, I received the "layer break" message ("The chosen layer break does not satisfy dual layer requirements.  To fix this, either set a new layer break manually, or choose to set layer break automatically.") because (I'm guessing) the material was too long for the 4.7 GB DVD (the Build screen now shows about 5GB of material are in the project).  This is the first time I've seen that message - usually Encore just tells me the material is too big for the DVD.
I re-transcoded the material down to well under 4.7 GB (about 3.9 GB), reverted and replaced the transcoded files, and now the DVD build screen shows that there are about 700MB free on a 4.7 GB DVD.  But I still have not been able to build any version of the DVD (image, folder, disc), without getting the "layer break" message.  I also now get this same layer break message when trying to "Preview from Here" any menu, killing my ability to preview the DVD menus in Encore.
Just to see what would happen, I chose an 8.4GB Dual Layer DVD, and chose "manual" instead of "automatic" for the layer break selection, but never got the layer break selection dialog box, just the "layer break" error message.
I typically build both DVD and Blu-Ray images from the same material in the same project.  I use different transcoding settings for each, and I have been able to build a Blu-Ray ISO without this "layer break" error on the Blu-Ray build (which is about 24.5GB when built).  And as I mentioned before, this is the first project on which I've even seen this layer break message.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  I'd rather not recreate the project from scratch, but I'm worried that I may have to.
    Thanks
    Jon

The total project being small enough may mean you have one layer that is too big. Both layers have to be smaller than half the disk, right?
Be sure you "run as administrator" for dual layer projects.
Encore may set the layer break correctly if it finds a good place, but there are numerous complaints about it being unreliable.
Build to a folder (no layer break is set), then use ImgBurn to build and ask to be prompted for layer break. ImgBurn is also unreliable under some circumstances.
The most frequent problems appear to be when there is no good location for a break. Do a search for "layer break imgburn" and you will see a variety of strategies.

  • Problems importing double sided CDs

does anybody have any problems when it comes to importing CDs that are double sided? by double sided I mean the one side is CD and the other side is DVD. It takes about 3 hours to import a CD like this and often the songs do not even work, and the time for the track is shown as "738:46:28"
does anybody have any advice. I am using a laptop computer with Windows XP if that has anything to do with it.

You have whats called a "Dual Disc". these disc do not always adhear to CD format standards therefore you can end up with issues like this. Apple had an artical about this, but Im having trouble digging it up rightnow.
Might try going to the PC makers site and updating your firmware for your CD ROM and see if this fixes the issue. Also try looking into your PC makers support articals about dual disc

  • HP Laserjet P2035n is set to print double-sided, but I can't change it in the preferences

Last week i downloaded and printed a PDF file. Since then, my HP Laserjet 2035n is set to print double-sided. Here are the details.
I'm running an HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7 Home.
The printer is set up as a network printer.
When I try to print something, it stops after one page waiting for me to re-feed the paper manually to print on the other side.
It's only this laptop that's messed up. My other computer prints fine
When I go to Printers, right click on the 2035n, and select "Printer Properties" and look at the bottom of the General tab, it reads under Features "Double Sided: Yes"
If I then click 'Preferences..." and go to the Finishing tab, under Document Options, the box "Print On Both Sides (Manually)" box is unchecked.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer
    I reinstalled the printer drivers
I have tried reinstalling under a different name
Any suggestions? Can someone tell me where the printer preferences file is so I can manually delete it then reinstall the printer drivers? Is there a tool for the P2035N to uninstal EVERYTHING related to it?
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

  • How do I enable double sided printing on my iPad through the HP ePrint app?

    HP Laser jet 1102w
I have Windows 7 64 bit and a original iPad.
I would like to save paper when I am printing from my iPad. Is there a setting to enable double-sided printing when printing from an iPad using the HP ePrint app?

    Hi,
Printing a manual duplex printing is not supported by the HP ePrint app or AirPrint as well, it can only be done with printers who provide automatic two-sided printing.

  • Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw won't print double sided anymore

Hello.   I have a Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw until about three weeks ago it would print double sided no problems.  I have used this printer on my pc and now my mac with no problems previously.  I am running a Macbook Pro (less then six months old) which is running 10.10.1 (Yosemite).  I attend college and I know at the end of last quarter during finals week (Dec. 15th) I still had the ability to do 2 sided printing.  Sometime between then and the new quarter starting last monday I lost the ability to do 2 sided printing.  After scouring the internet I have tried everything they suggest:
    Uninstalling printer and reinstalling
resetting the printer setting on the mac and then reinstalling printer
resetting the printer settings on mac, rebooting and then reinstalling printer
installing older drivers( hp automatically installs newest drivers even if you use an older driver file)
resetting physical printer to factory default and reconnecting to wireless network.
    repairing the disk permissions
The only new software I have installed on the computer in the last three weeks is Adobe Creative Cloud and the printing problem preexisted that installation.

    Hi @Arboria9 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues printing two-sided from Yosemite. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
You have pretty much have done all the steps that I would have provided.
Are you still able to print two-sided from the Windows computer?
Are you missing the option to select two-sided printing in the print driver?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 6500)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
How was the printer name listed?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.

  • HP Officejet Pro 7680 and double-sided printing

I just got this yesterday, but I cannot get this to print double-sided in my Macbook Pro (10.5.1). I checked the feature in the printing preference (system preference), but the double-sided option in the print dialog is always grayed out on all applications.
My previous HP 7310 didn't have any problem printing double-sided.
Also I get the error message related to hpsuppliestool program every time I try to print. I keep pressing ignore to get rid of the dialog but it's annoying.
Any one with similar experiences or solutions?

I'm updating this so that others can benefit from my experience.
I got everything working now-duplexing, scanning, etc.
I found the beta scanning software on the forum, and installed it. It works. I can scan multiple pages using the ADF w/o any problem.
I found the beta printing software for HP OfficeJet Pro 7300 in the forum and installed it according to its instructions. Now duplexing is back.
I found the HPsuppliesTools.app in my Library/printer folder and deleted it. No more error messages.
So, now everything is working 100%!
Thanks for HP folks to post things on this forum!

  • Disc image form a double layer DVD fails

I am trying to make a disc image from a double layer DVD in Disc Utility (os 10.5.1) so I can burn another copy (I burned the disc I am copying from, so it should not be encrypted or anything) and it has an i/o error part way through each time I try, I am guessing it is hitting the double layer splice point and not knowing what to do or something.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
There is a far fetched solution - but far from perfect.
(Best You can do is as Old Toad writes - Make it SL from start)
    But anyhow
    • in iDVD Save as a DiskImage
    • Then use Roxio Toast™ and copy the DiskImage to a new SL-DVD - BUT also select Fit-on-DVD.
Now Toast will re-compress (takes sever amount of time) so that the material will fit (up to 10 hours on a SL-DVD)
BUT there are several Cons. to this
    • Roxio Toast™ is not free - nor is it cheap
    • Takes a long time to do
    • Resulting DVD will look poor (Much worse than a SL-DVD from iDVD from start)
    (A 10 hour SL-DVD - looks like crap)
So Yes it's technically possibly - But I can not motivate it at all.
    Yours Bengt W

This function is related to the printer driver and the printer you use. If you do not give details, nobody can suggest a solution. Usually, the correct driver solves the issue.

  • How to print double-sided in AirPrint

    Hi All,
I just purchased the NP LaserJet Pro CP 1525nw which is fully compatible with AirPrint. Printing works great. However, When I print to the HP and look at the Print Center it always says "Double-Sided Off". I tried tapping on it without success. Double Sided printing works fine from Windows.
Is there a way to enable double sided printing on the iPad 2?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Alas, that page is no longer active.
We have a Canon inkjet that does automatic duplex printing, but no duplex option shows up-- either under iOS 5.1.1 on an iPad or 6.1.2 on an iPad mini.
Of course, it's not AirPrint certified, although it does work with the Mac add-ons Handy Print, etc.-- and it does show page numbers for certain sites and PDFs.
Glad to hear that duplex printing would be an option if we upgrade printers.
Have they added Print Preview yet?  That's a biggie as we often end printing gobs of pages from a web site and only want part of the page.

  • How to print double sided in Win 8.1 similar to Win XP?

Recently purchased Win 8.1 PC.  Installed my printer, a HP psc 1210.  All appears to work except unable to select "print both sides" as I was able to do on my old Win XP PC.  Noticed print properties in XP that Double Sided is marked 'Yes' while in Win 8.1 it is marked 'No'.

Thanks Rashmi for your reply. Is there any other way to do so? Actually I am trying to automate the actions of an app where launching and subsequent exiting of an app is a test case.
No available command to allow you do this, I don't know if OEM have the permission
