Enhanced DSL

Had enhanced for two years.  Down speed at 2.8.  Changing billing, now Verizon provisions me at .5 to 1 and states
that enhanced is not available to my number at any price.  Neighbors in same pedestal still have
3.0 on their line according to Verizon tech rep.   Anyone know of any other recourse other than state SCC.
Solved!

Speaking to billing again and have them get in touch with someone from Engineering. It sounds like they're having an issue with their qualification database for your address.

  • *High Speed Enhanced - DSL Light keeps going off and on, Losing Internet *

    Issues
My DSL light starts flickering and then my internet light goes off. The DSL then comes back on but internet does not reconnect. This happens 3-4 times each hour.
My max download speed is capped at 3MB even though Im available to have 5mb
This has only happened recently i was able to get consistent 5.8 MB download for 9 months.
I've had 2 technicians come in to check my line speed and it both clocked in at 3 MB download. They thought my line i was on was over capacity so they asked them to switch my port. But still seeing the same issue.
Im out of options here, I have a 3rd technician scheduled but im not confident this is going to get fixed. I guess last resort is for them to check the physical line to see if there is something wrong from central office to my residence?I  have to constantly turn off and turn back on the router to get the internet to come back on. This is incredibly frustrating when Im working.  Any suggestions here?
This has been going on for the past month and no end in sight.
    Any help is appreciated.
Download speed various from 1.5 to 3.1 everytime the DSL light goes out the Down and Up changes.

Your noise levels are terrible, something is going on with the line. Your downstream and upstream speeds are not even at max bitrate. For a 3Mbps line, which is the least you should be running on a range extender card, you should be at 3360/864. If the DSL drops out you'll have to reset the modem to get the Internet light back on, either that or logging into 192.168.1.1 and manually reconnecting the line. Bottom line you have an issue with the line, call Verizon and get a service tech out ASAP.

  • Trouble with DSL and modem

The DSL light on my modem started blinking today and the internet light won't come on at all. I rebooted everything and checked all the plugs but it is still not working. It has been out for a few hours now.

Very similar issues for me. Had just switched last week from Comcast to Verizon's basic DSL only, no phone. Although super slow, Internet worked until 10/31/2011 morning for a week. It was so slow and streaming was impossible, so called 10/31 to upgrade to Enhanced DSL. Verizon confirmed that it upgraded in the afternoon of 10/31. But internet was not working when i checked. Called 1-800-Verizon 3 times during the day on 10/31. Called again at 10 pm on 10/31 to create a trouble ticket.  A lot of the folks at Verizon have no clue about account info, my service, etc. Finally, a Tech support lady said she created a ticket after she went through remote test of my set up for 30 minutes between 10 - 10:30 pm on Oct 31.  She did not tell me what the root cause was. Basically, since 10/31 morning, the router/modem has power, DSL line on and wireless light on, but no internet light.  Then occasionally, the lights go through some changs and I see internet light on for 5 seconds.  Then it goes off and go back to power, dsl and wireless lights only. When internet light is on for 5 secs, internet is available.  Then of course, it is gone.  This has been repeating for last 2 days. It is Nov 2 and still there is no internet.
When checking Verizon website or chatting with them, Verizon hardly gives correct status or sometime says information not available.  I don't know why they cannt figure out the problem and fix it quickly.

  • Upgrade Only DSL without racking up price

Currently my Dad pays $15/month after a discount for verizon phone and internet. Since the internet is pretty slow I was looking for options to upgrade only the internet. It seems the only thing that I can do is create my own bundle, but whenever I choose about the same service we have now, the price skyrockets up $25 for the same service. This doesn't make sense to me. I just want to increase the internet plan by a level without paying tons more. I guess maybe this was some kind of special deal that we have now? I'm wondering if there is a way to do that?

The discount may be a promotional discount for service. Typically the discounts will be removed if the service plan changes, either due to a bundle change (if phone and DSL are bundled) or when they expire.
Typically going from the lowest DSL plan to the highest plan will run an additional $10/m for at least the first year. Then the price will go up usually an additional  $7/m. Removing the $15 discount will cause the price you're seeing.
Try talking to someone in billing to see if they can help find a better deal than what is being offered online. Just be sure to ask questions such as, what is the catch, what is changing, what is the promo price and what will it become after a year.
Otherwise, my advice is to price out Internet service based on how many dollars a single Megabit costs (divide the price by Mbps). If your line supports only 1.5Mbps max, paying $42/m for the Enhanced DSL package is usually silly of FiOS or a Cable provider is around.

  • Slow dsl upload

I was having trouble playing online games when I decided to do a verizon speedtest, and the upload speed was slow. At some times during the test it seemed like the upload just dropped out. Overall the highest point during the test was .12 Mbps.  The upload speed according to the verizon website says it should be .384 Mbps. Not sure what to do,

I asked a verizon agent about this, and they said my line is maxed out at .130mbps even though my location qulaifies for enhanced dsl. I tried to explain this and then they said my computer needs a better processor to get the maximum speeds. Please help!
-After a long time explain that the processor doesn't have to do with dsl speeds, the agent blamed it on the lines coming into my house ... What's the next excuse?

  • DSL Attainable speed

I have been paying for the "Enhanced DSL" for a few years now and have been locked at 3Mbps because "We do not offer the higher speeds in your area"... Which would be fine except for the fact that every time I check my modem status it claims I have an attainable speed of 21224 / 1323 Kbps. Shouldn't I be able to EASILY get the full 15Mbps?! I have seen a few other posts on here advising people to basically call and pest the person on the other end until they give in - - - is this the only way to get what what I am paying for?! My service has been very reliable and I have no other complaints besides being locked into the slowest level of what I am paying for.

Pretty much pestering is the way to do it. Verizon doesn't often update the databases for DSL even if a higher speed is capable. I had to do that to get 5Mbps out of my circuit.
There is something to consider in a handful of cases. If you are coming out of a remote terminal or a remote DSLAM, Verizon may have only budgeted the backhaul to the central office for 3Mbps circuits. This holds true in many rural areas where Verizon has installed new ADSL2+ gear and run Fiber. Some older RTs also can't handle more than 3Mbps - for example if you're coming out of a Catena Networks CNX-5. Those max at 3Mbps as they only have 45Mbps (T3) feeding them. 15Mbps would destroy that in no time.
Chances are better for getting 15Mbps if people nearby you can get speeds higher than 3Mbps, and if you're served directly from the CO.

So I choose the Verizon speed test on the left. http://www.verizon.com/home/fios-quantum-internet/speedtest.html down 2.90 up 0.71 Now the speed is almost the same as speakeasy.net Must be a mistake. So I run the test on each website several more times. Same results. Is it possible Verizon has deliberately throttled the business site speed by 50% to game the speed??????? Can’t get emails from the the dsl line, or net access. “Verizon is experiencing a service disruption”. Notice its Verizon, not the customers, who have the disruption. The best part is it tells the customer to go to a web site to check on the outage. The web page I can't access as the dsl signal is down. What does the web page say, you ask??????? “We are having a disruption of service and are trying real hard to get it back up”. Again. I have finally dumped Verizon “enhanced” dsl for charter.net cable internet access. I went from this: down 2.90 up 0.71(sometimes) To this: down 63.54 up 3.31 Sixty-three point fifty-four mbps Charter cable, internet only cable box What a coincidence, now that I have real “enhanced” internet speed, Netflix flys like a rocket. No rebuffering, no “internet service not available”, no waiting for the movie to reload if I fast forward/rewind. And the best part is……. Drum roll, Please rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.(cymbol crash)! Fri, 30 May 2014 01:31:59 an email from Verizon Dear Valued Verizon Customer, We realize you have choices when it comes to choosing your Broadband provider, and would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for being a loyal customer and for choosing Verizon. In order to continue to bring you quality service and product innovation, at times we need to raise our rates. Your monthly rate will increase by $3.00 That was all I needed to switch to Charter. So I’m going from $35 a month for slow and many times nonexistent service, to $40 for service that is 10 to 20 times faster, and doesn’t demand a bribe, err, a voluntary contribution from Netflix not to be throttled. And does anyone really believe Verizon position why net neutrality is bad????? Verizon Says It Wants to Kill Net Neutrality to Help Blind, Deaf and Disabled People http://billmoyers.com/2014/06/13/verizon-says-it-wants-to-kill-net-neutrality-to-help-blind-deaf-and... Verizon lobbyists are canvassing Capitol Hill with a curious new argument against net neutrality — it hurts disabled people. BAWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA The sad fact is Verizon, and all of the copper wire providers can't wait to dump you. I also cut the satellite/cable TV plans, as 500 channels and nothing to watch. I live in L.A. and are fortunate to have FREE DIGTAL over the air TV. So I programmed my TV to the 15 stations I only watch, use netflix, or gasp, read a book!!!!!!!!! So, good-bye Verizon. Adious. Zoi geen. Adieu. Annyeonghi kyeseyo. Arrivederci. Auf Wiedersehen. Do svidan’ya.

I know your pain and at least you have the choice to dump Verizon and go somewhere else. I don't have that choice because of where I live Verizon are the only internet providers. I've been having line issues since they moved me over to their "enhanced" service last year. Two months after I was switched my speed began to get throttled down so I called regular support, no help there, then I came here and Executive Appeals took over my case. Man, was that the worst decision ever because they actually made my line worse; constant dropouts began a week after they began working on my line. The original issue was only the throttling, so it went from that to my line being barely usuable but E A refused to fix the problem they caused and stopped talking to me altogther, left me high and dry. Anyway, back I went to regular support and that has turned into a nightmare. No one listens, no cares and now they want to take away the 7.1M that I've had for several years because they think that is causing the dropouts even though I have repeatedly told them that the E A caused the dropout issue and that I never had any major problems with the 7 megs. Sigh, so now on top of still having the throttling issue and dropouts, they want to downgrade my speed. They have had me at 1mbps (as a test) and I still had the dropouts, so I don't understand why they're insisting on lowering my speed permanently when they themselves (MCO) know the lower speed did not stop/correct the dropouts. This has been going on for 10 very long months and I went from having a mostly issue free, good line to an issue filled, bad line...and it continues. This November will be exactly one year since this ordeal began.
Anyway, didn't mean to hijack your post! But I'm glad at least you could leave Verizon and go somewhere better.

  • Continuous and Frequent Disconnects for last 4 days, 6pm-After Midnight

I've been experiencing multiple disconnections from "enhanced" DSL on a frequent basis the last few nights.  I can tell while either using TV stream programs (such as Netflix) or using consoles requiring an internet connection to run certain features (XBOX).  The disconnects occur at a rate of about once every ten minutes, and lasts for about 90 seconds each.
Though this may seem trivial it continues to increase in frustration when trying to use the internet for shopping, TV streaming, or gaming.  I'm not sure what advantage I am getting paying extra for the "enhanced" DSL high speed internet, or if it is worth continuing my requested service from Verizon.  The fact that the internet simply decides to stop working for 90 seconds every 10 minutes is slightly frustrating given I’m paying for an expected service.  I understand this may be a local weather issue, but I have not received any messages from Verizon stating there is previous storm damage or on-going repairs in which I may suffer lack of stability.
It is not a wireless issue either.  I have a computer hard-connected via CAT-V cable and on the Verizon provided wireless router I can clearly see the Internet light go out while the DSL and Power lights remain illuminated.
I imagine this is not common,  and am hoping for troubleshooting beyond average technical knowledge.  is there a short life span on the wireless router provided?   Resetting the router will not fix this.  I attempted a shutdown, unplug for 10 minutes, and restart of the provided router and the disconnects resumed as normal and scheduled.  I also attempted replacing the phone and internet wires into the router.  I am considering moving my service to one of the local competing companies, but prefer Verizon for the bundle deals with DirectTV.

It's an epidemic everywhere.  I now feel it's to get people to move to FIOS.  They are too cheap to upgrade their equipment for DSL service.  We need to bond together and fight back.

  • Verizon marking my outgoing email as spam; thanks, thanks a lot

Is anyone else as sick as I am of Verizon's "know more than you" "big brotherish" attitude to us customers.
I'm trying to send email (not mass, just one email) to a client, and Verizon marks it as spam.
This is a critical email the customer is expecting.  Couple of links in the emai.
Fios is nice, but not THAT nice if I can't even send a freakin' email... I might as well go back to Earthlink or Cox!  In fairness, about 95% of my outgoing email goes through just fine, but 2-3 times per week, when I send an email to someone, I get the dreaded {word filter avoidance}response from Verizon which says...
and yes, i send the "offending" email off to the {word filter avoidance} genius people at [email protected], but can you contact these ivory tower {word filter avoidance}?  No.
No, the only thing we can do is hope and pray these jerko**s unblock us and let our email get through.
    Verizon, if you're listening...{word filter avoidance}

I pay for email service from Verizon. The cost of Verizon e-mail is built in to the dsl service.
Yes, e-mail from Verizon is advertised as a “free” service. However…
You can only get that “free email” if you purchase service.
    And that’s not free.

    First, the good news:
I rarely get spam from the Verizon server (I have 6 accounts/sub-accounts thru Verizon, using outlook express, 1 or 2 spam a month).
    The bad news:
I have enhanced dsl and have been experiencing random spam blocks.
Yes, I took the time to read the spam faqs and dozens of the postings in this forum.
Yes, I have the latest setting for outlook express http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/fiosinternet/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/...

Yes, I have repeatedly sent the same email to [email protected]
I understand the difficulty of filtering spam, but it seems there should be means test that says if I send 1 email to 1 person, that’s probably not spam. After all, if the spam filter is really just a program, then it is using a numerical assessment, and the parameter has been set to ignore this..
Thank you for your time to help, but telling paying customers we don’t really have that good  of service  as we advertise, isn’t a solution, it’s an excuse.
    Respectfully,
    Norm
As a fellow paying customer (note that this is a peer-to-peer forum), I'm not making excuses. I'm stating facts. There are free email offerings that are better than ISP provided email. Period.
If you want to use Verizon's email, that's your choice. If you want to switch to another ISP and use their sub-par email product, that is also your choice.
It just doesn't make sense to me to trade excellent internet for not-as-fantastic internet just to use a "better" email product when there are actual better email products available for free that are not ISP-dependent.

  • Paying for 1.1-3 mbps...getting .90

Figured I'd try this forum before calling support. I'm signed up for the Enhanced DSL, but speed tests routinly come up around .90 mbps (download) and less than .3 (upload).
What can I do to improve the speed? I'd at least like to get what I'm paying for. FIOS is not available in my area.
    Thanks

  • Slow connection and frequest disconnects.

We   upgraded to  the enhanced  DSL  at the recommendation   of  my verizon  rep.  They  supposedly swithed  me to  a  new  port (  or what ever   it iscalled) My  billing shows  I am   paying for 3.1-7.5   mb    my speed tests  show 1.2 -1.56mb   and     frequent  disconnects   of  30 seconds  or  more  multiple times  daily.    So  when   is verizon  going to geive me servie  that   is reliable  and meets   the advertized  speeds?

Is anything shown here. From older posts you were having problems with exchange congestion. http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

  • Moved further from the switching office, now service is slow..now what?

My daughter moved from in town (town of 4,000 people) which was right near the Verizon switching office to 3 miles away.  Now the High Speed Internet Enhanced DSL is so slow, they can barely stream a movie. It continuously buffers.  They have 2 smartphones, 2 laptops and stream movies.    When they lived closer to the switching office, they had great internet speeds.
When the installer came, he said their outside line needed to be replaced.  He then took their excess lines, rolled it up and stuck it on the fence.  It's coiled up and just hanging off the chain link fence.  They thought he was coming back to replace the line (underground) but he never came back.
So, is there anything that can be done when you move further away from the switching office and your speeds slow down like that?   They have considered switching to Suddenlink but with their new data caps, no way.  Also, Suddenlink is more  than Verizon.   They love Verizon but this service is unacceptable.   They pay for 1.3 - 3 mbps but are lucky to get 1.2 mbps..I've seen it say .7 while a movie is buffering.  They don't offer the higher tier here so we can't just move up a tier for better service.
If Verizon replaced the line, would that make any difference or is it still all about the distance?  If Verizon were to come out and replace the outside line, does my daughter have to pay for that?   Any thoughts???

In short, with DSL it's all about the distance.  If it's a very large coil of wire, that may be contributing to the mess, but it's unlikely.  Note that the path the line takes from a home to a central office may be much longer than how you'd fly, walk, or drive there.
The other issue could be a wire pair that is in poor condition somewhere along the path.  Switching pairs may help if that is the case.  However, you still can't overcome distance.
    Good Luck.

  • DSL Enhanced - signal levels

Any use in asking Verizon if they can provision me faster?  DSL modem is connected directly to the Network Interface.  Downstream line attenuation is high but acceptable , but I think my noise margin is pretty good.  Will also say that my service is rock solid - never goes down since I've subscribed several months ago, and the speeds are very consistent.  Equipment is a NetGear DGND3300 version 2.
    ADSL Link
    Downstream
    Upstream
    Connection Speed
    3360 kbps
    860 kbps
    Line Attenuation
    47.5 db
    19.6 db
    Noise Margin
    31.4 db
    15.5 db

Windskill, it looks like you have ADSL2+. Let's shoot for 7Mbps on that line. 5Mbps should be guaranteed on that, assuming the stats hold like that and you are not pulling in a large amount of errors. I'm sending you a PM to get ahold of someone who should be able to work this out for you.

  • Enhanced internet snails pace

I thought I would post this before switching to Comcast. I recently upgraded to "enhanced". I am told the best speed that I could purchase was 1.1 to 3.0 mbps. After the "upgrade" I went from .79 to .97. I called the off shore support, and actually spoke to an intelligent rep. After about 30 minutes my speed was 2.84. I was thrilled. Each day for the past week the speed has dropped, and now I am at 1.28. I tried calling support again, and after nearly and hour on the phone "reading the script" I asked for a supervisor or another rep. I wasw disconnected with no call back. There is no one that you can talk with to explain your problem to. What happened in Verizon's Co that cut my speed?I can't purchase Fios, and I can't talk with a live person. Is going to Comcast my only solution?

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

        2 ash-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.70.241) 39 ms 7 ms 7 ms

        6 static-71-242-*-*.phlapa.east.verizon.net (71.242.*.*) 32 ms 32 ms 33 ms
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • Westell DSL modem connects to WRT54GX2 SRX 200 with wire

I follow the instructions found on this site..  The first couple of times the procedure did not work.  On the MODEM ( Westell) needed a manual  reset.  At that time  the network starting working.
A note needs to added to this instruction as stated above.   The title of the instruction  is:
Setting up DSL on a Linksys Router using a wired connection
    Thanks for the good info
    BlackSteel

    Mahalo nui,
Hawaiian Telcom, my internet provider did, a while back, go into the bridge setup for the WRT54G, and yes, you are absolutely correct that it need be hardwired into the DSL modem.
Since going wireless is the goal, I see no extra benefit to the additional WRT54G hardware.
From the Airport Extreme Setup Manual, under "Using the Airport Extreme with a Broadband Internet Service", again, still need to hardwire to the DSL modem.
No mention of the "Wireless Bridge" function so I am unsure, though will try to use the USB port on the Dell to make her wireless. If not there, then maybe the USB Iomega Drive. As the Iomega reads both PC and Mac files which is important, wireless access would be a benefit.
So my thoughts are that as long as the DSL modem wireless network coverage is acceptable, there is no benefit to hardwiring in additional APs with wireless capability.
Maybe though, the additional hardware would diminish the click-clicking. On the other hand, a square waveform is easy to enhance and modulate with analog voice, think!....
    Thanks, aloha
