Enhanced Keyboard Available on MacBook Pro?

I plan to switch over to a Mac eventually, and I've been eyeing the MacBook Pro. The problem is, I'm a french student where I need to put in french characters often, like é è ê ç à and others. I need a laptop with an enhanced keyboard, i.e. a laptop with a numerical keyboard on the right like this picture http://www.tbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/hdx16_keyboard2.jpg I don't want a french keyboard with accented characters distributed throughout the keyboard. I also don't want to have to use a USB numerical keypad.
So again, is there a MacBook Pro available with an enhanced keyboard?

No. You cannot get an MBP with an 'extended keyboard' (i.e. with a 'ten-key' numeric keypad) built in. You'll need to use an external keyboard (wired or wireless) or an external numeric keypad (again, wired or wireless, or even an iPhone/iPod Touch!).
The accented characters are available on US and other keyboards by using the option key (option-e then a gives á, option-c is ç, etc.).
If you need a laptop with a built-in keyboard like the one pictured, you'll need to purchase something other than an Apple laptop.

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

how do i get the keyboard on my macbook pro to light up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
What MacBook Pro have you got? Only Unibody MacBooks Pro (Late 2008 and newer) have a backlit keyboard. If you have one of these MacBooks Pro, you can set up its illumination in System Preferences > Keyboard. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4882

Hello! Does anyone knows if its possible to change a US keyboard of a macbook pro for a portuguese keyboard. And how much it is approximatedlly. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You will have to return the Mac and order one with a Portuguese keyboard, if you bought it less than 14 days ago.
If not, you will have to buy a new Mac (that's because some keys may not fit onto your MacBook Pro keyboard) or just set up OS X with a Portuguese keyboard but with US keys

  • Spilled water over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro.

Spilled water over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. 13 inches. Used paper and dried it straigt away, it was working fine. Now, a few days later, my left shift-button, the ctrl-button and right-arrow button do not work. What can I do to try to fix this?
My Mac is working completely fine. It was maybe 0,5 dl of water...

Nothing that you can do to fix it. Best to just leave it off and take it to your local Apple Store or AASP. No telling how much it's going to cost you - there are liquid sensors all around your computer so the service centers will be able to tell that it's a case of liquid damage, even if there is no corrosion yet.
You just have to be careful with any kind of liquids around notebooks - liquids and electricity just don't play well together.
    Sorry,

  • Is it possible to build a German keyboard in an MacBook Pro in US?

    Hey Guys,
I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro. I have lots of german friends and they use a different keyboard.
I looked at the online store but I could not find, how to build a german keyboard in the MacBook and I really would like to have a german keyboard in my MacBook Pro.
Do you know something about it or is it possible?
    Thanks for helping

What you can do is set the keys to German layout in preferences and then get something like this

  • Change keyboard on a MacBook Pro

    Hi there
I currently live in Hong Kong and I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro here.
Someday I will move back to Switzerland and I was wondering if it's possible to change the keyboard on a MacBook Pro so that I can write german umlaute with it and how much that would cost me.
I know that it's possible to configure the keyboard so that I can type the umlaute with a key-combination, but it would be nicer to just have the actual key on my keyboard.
    Thanks for your help.

The keyboard and trackpad are fused to the topcase and cannot be replaced individually. Hence, it would require entire replacement of the part, an expensive proposition that needs to be carried out by trained and authorized technicians with the proper tools and knowhow.
If the key shapes for both languages are the same and the difference just lies in a few keycaps, you may be able to fudge the "replacement" merely by popping put the caps that change and replacing them. See here as a possible source: http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/
From the OS and program point of view, you just need to select a different keyboard in the Input Methods found in System Preferences / Language & Text.

  • Logitech diNovo Mac USB Wireless Keyboard - Wake Closed Macbook Pro?

My brother wants to use his Macbook Pro 15" 2008 (previous body style) in a "dock" setup with an external monitor. This keyboard uses a small wireless USB dongle to connect to the keyboard. With Macbook pro cover closed, I cannot get the DiNovo's spacebar to wake the Macbook pro. Is USB-Wake support on the Macbook Pro?

In theory, if you open System Preferences/Bluetooth and select the device then hit 'Advanced' you should be able to check 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer' and it should work. I'm a little suspicious about the USB dongle side of the equation though ...

  • Is 'reminders' available on Macbook Pro?

Is 'reminders' available on Macbook Pro?  as it is on iPhone and iPad...
and if yes, where can I find it?

Reminders is an app available in OS X Mountain Lion. If you have OS X Mountain Lion, you can find Reminders in the Dock.
If you aren't using OS X Mountain Lion, open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. You need Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer to install it, so if you haven't got Mac OS X 10.6, you will have to buy it from the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You can find what Mac OS X version you are using in  > About this Mac. Also, check if your computer is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

If you can get them paired again try making them "favorites" from the Bluetooth system preferences.
Try smc and pram reset too.  May gave to do this before you can get them paired.

  • Garagekey USB keyboard works with MacBook Pro, but not with 27"  iMac

Just got a brandnew 27" iMac. The Garagekey USB keyboard doesn't work. It's recognized in systemProfiler, Audio-Midi Setup, GarageBand and Logic. But no Midi is coming in. When I plug it into my MacBook Pro, it works immediately. I know the Garagekey doesn't work with some 3rd party USB hubs, maybe for lack of enough power, but it works always at the internal USB hubs with the MacBook Pro. Why doesn't it with the 27" iMac? I'm cueless...
The IMac Systemprofiler says: Current Available (mA) 500, Current Required (mA) 300. So I guess, it can't be a power problem?

Have the same problem with Logic Pro. Works on my old Mac Mini but not on the new iMac 27" i5. Apple told me that it is a difference between the boards they used on the two computers. They said that even if I got a new mac mini I would run into the same problem. they recommended that I upgrade my mini, or try another piece of hardware to connect the two. Looking for hardware now. Good luck to you.

  • Recently my keyboard on my macbook pro died. i backed up the machine to my Seagate 500GB hard drive, successfully, and sent the notebook in for repairs. Now that the macbook is repaired, i can read from the seagate, but not write to it. It says read only.

Recently my Macbook Pro's keyboard failed. Using my wireless keyboard, i managed to backup everything to my 500gb Seagate external hard drive. I sent the machine in, had the keyboard repaired, and now the machine is back, and i am loading my content back onto the macbook. My problem is that the drive is now read only, and i have searched for all the obvious fixes. The lock on the permissions secion of the info block on the drive. (not present). I have even tried disk utility, but all the options are greyed out.
I am a graphic designer, and so i use my external drive extensively to move artwork around, so it is important that i can make it writable. It worked perfectly on this very same machine, two weeks ago, and nothing has changed on the drive, so i can only assume it is a software issue on the operating system.
I have read through all the forums, etc, and can find nothing that works. I am loath to change anything on the drive, as it was working perfectly on this system before the system went in for its repair.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I use a USB keyboard with my Macbook Pro?

My MBP will not recognize my brand new USB keyboard.
I have tried the keyboard on two other Macbook Air's and it works perfectly.
    My MBP:
    OS X Yosemite
    10.10.1
Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
    2.4 GHz Core i5
    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Mac HD
    Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB
Thoughts on how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Brenden,
    Thanks for the reply.
I've gone your suggestions in detail and the keyboard is still not working.
From what I can tell this is a known issue with Yosemite.

Someone at Apple must be able to figure this one out.
