Enhanced podcast with scanned images

I'm working with a music teacher to help her create an enhanced podcast of a short children's book. She wants kids to be able to view the podcast on an iPod Touch. She has scanned in each page of the book, brought them into GarageBand and added voice. When she exports for either iPod or iPhone, the text of the story is unreadable and fuzzy when viewed on the iPod.
The photos themselves are perfect when viewed in iPhoto, no problems reading the text.
Can anyone give advice on where the problem might be? Would it be with the scanner and the size/resolution of the scanned pages? Or is there some setting or process within GarageBand to redo?

If the text is fine in iPhoto then the problem is not with the scanner.
The issue will be with the compression used when creating the 'podcast' or movie.
What settings does she use to export / share from Garageband? Did she try exporting it as a full quality movie first and then converting it in iTunes?

No enhanced podcast with iPad

I've searched around and found a couple of posts in the iPad discussion that seem to confirm my worst fears: you cannot view an enhanced podcast on an iPad!!!! It's a brick! This must be because the "ipod" app I guess cannot carry out the high-tech sequencing of still graphics with the audio. Or did I miss something and Steve Jobs just announced that the iPad will have no artwork created after 1500, lest anything later be construed as too flashy? Apple, please give us back enhanced podcasts-- it's a fair trade for taking the iPad leap of faith.

I do enhanced podcasts for my online students with Keynote and Garage band. I created an .m4p and it plays FINE on my iPod touch, so I can't imagine why it won't work on an iPad.
I get the Episode artwork but none of the chapters. The tracks all show up in the list view, but no images. Also, if I display the Episode artwork, I can't get the controls to appear. Bug, bug, bug.

Enhanced Podcasts with QT7 Pro for Win??

I purchased QT7 Pro thinking I might be able to create an enhanced podcast on the PC since Apple's Chapter Tool isn't available for PC and there seems to be nothing mentioning anywhere if and when it will ever be available for PC.
I created an MP4 movie with AAC audio and a photo JPEG video track... and made sure that my movie had the exact same codecs and specs as the "Make Magazine Enhanced Podcast" did, as stated in the movie info tabs. I added chapters and the two files SEEM like they play identical in Quicktime Player... but when I add "my" file I created into iTunes, it doesn't display chapters or artwork like it did in QT Player
All the specs seem identical. What's different?
Can this be done? It seems like it SHOULD work...

I kept researching and reading after putting up the post.
Upgrading to OS 10.4 & DSP4 & FCP5 to get Compressor 2 is just to expensive for me at this time.
And after much thought upgrading to QT7 for h.264 just to watch videos online, (and not having broadband thats a very time consuming process), I think I'll just stay with what I have at the moment which works well.

Podcasts with embedded images not working

I am trying to play this podcast https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-british-library-podcast/id935352158?mt=2 which contains embedded chapter images.
It plays fine within iTunes on a Mac but it doesn't work on my iPhone 6 iOS8.
Can anyone help me get it working. Is it even supposed to work?

not an issue with regards to the actual
PDF Language and Specification but rather, an issue of how to create PDF using Acrobat (or some other tool). Please repost in the appropriate forum (Acrobat or otherwise).

Image Size for Enhanced podcasts

I've started producing enhanced podcasts but the images never look good. Most are grainy. I've stuck with iTunes recommendation for art work of 300 x 300 pixels at 72 dpi. Is ther a better size/setting?

I've never understood why Apple recommends only 72dpi - perhaps to reduce storage space on their servers. ...Your G5 and PC screens are probably much higher resolution. MacBooks are around 110ppi. Try upping the image setting from 72 to 110 and see if that reduces the grainy appearance.

I can hit the forward and back arrows and I am taken the to the next chapter marker. But, unfortunately, I do not see the photos, as I do see them in iTunes.
Can anyone help me adjust my iPod to enable it to play enhanced podcasts correctly?
According to the iPod manuals, I should be able to see enhanced podcasts with no trouble.

I have solved it myself. Here's how I did it:
In iTunes, go to Edit and click to Show Art Work and leave it as "Hide Art Work." (Now it will download the enhanced messages.)
Now go to the iPod: From the Main Menu, go to Settings. At the Settings, go to the other Main Menu. From this Main Menu, go to Music and make sure that the following are on:
Playlists, Photos, and Photo Import, Videos, and Extras.

Enhanced Podcast- Can I fill the iphone-iTouch screen with graphic

I have successfully created enhanced podcasts with SoundTrack Pro, and I can pre format all the graphics for the graphic track to be 640x360 or 480x272.
But, is there anyway currently to have this enhanced podcast graphics track behave like the iPhone-iTouch treats a movie file, that is fill the screen in landscape mode?

Exporting Enhanced Podcast

Using GB 08 to create enhanced podcast with embedded jpeg files of PowerPoint presentation. Completed the episode and exported using export to iTunes but it only appears in iTunes as a AAC music files no images appear. I tried exporting to disk and adding to the iTunes library with same result.
The files will play and display images correctly using Quicktime but not iTunes. I also tried exporting to iWeb, hoping I could pull the converted file from there to upload into iTunes but no luck.
So what gives?! I've mixed results when using GarageBand to create podcasts and starting to think I should just stick to using iMovie to do this.

Enhanced podcasts do appear as music files in iTunes. How the images are displayed depends on your iTunes settings. In my settings, for example, the image appears in that little window below the playlists, and if I close that window, I don't see anything at all. Maybe you have done that?

Enhanced Podcast pics, full screen?...

I can make an enhanced podcast, but the images on the ipod are surrounded by lots of white space. Now as a designer, normally I like white space, but in this case, I would like to fill the screen with the image (like the photos on the ipod photo and nano).
What is the best resolution? Aspect ratio?
Is it possible to make them bigger?

I am VERY interested in this answer...I produce podcasts that are a series of pictures put together in GarageBand. Technically is this still a video podcast? If I try to play them in frontrow they ARE NOT full screen like TRUE video podcasts. What is the difference in the file?

I listen to Amateur Traveller and it is an enhanced podcast where I used to see picture content when I played it on my iPhone. How do I view enhanced podcasts with the new app?

I don't think you can anymore. Or at least, not easily. I just published my 11th episode of an enhanced podcast. Simultaneously, I updated the OS on my woefully outdated Iphone. This gave me the latest Podcast app update. As a result, I only see the Episode art and the first chapter art. After that, there are no other images shown even though my chapters are listed in the "Chapter" menu in the app. At first I thought I exported my episode incorrectly, but then I tried an older episode and had the same results. After some research, it appears that Apple has basically pulled its support for enhanced podcasts. This is evident by the fact that their latest updates of Garage Band have omitted podcast tools altogether. If you download the podcast episode into Itunes (on your laptop/desktop), you can still access the enhanced version. This is also true if you download the episode in Safari. But that doesn't make for convenient listening/watching on the go.
Sadly, the days of enhanced podcasts seem to be numbered. I'd love to hear what other enhanced podcast creators/listeners are experiencing with the lack of support for "enhanced" podcasting.

Can't get enhanced podcast exported correctly!?!?

As an experiment to developing an enhanced podcast of my own I took a live audio cd and imported it into GB 3.0.2 on one stereo audio track as one continuous file. I then added chapter markers and images on the podcast track.
It seems that no matter what I try I can't seem to get my iPod to recognize the chapters. I've tried exporting to disk and iTunes as well as tried editing the info through iTunes itself to no avail. Plus I also notice that the file doesn't display in iTunes under the Podcast heading like my other downloaded podcasts do.
I even tried deleting all other unused audio tracks as one previous thread suggested that GB has trouble with exporting enhanced podcasts with multiple audio tracks and a mixdown should be performed first and then chapterized. Although as the post also said the menu sould read "Export Enhanced Podcast to Disk..." which mine doesn't say.
Any help in solving this dellima would be greatly appreciated.

Alright Kids,
It seems that my G5 just doesn't seem to get it! I moved GB and supporting audio files over to my PowerBook G4 and was able to create the podcast with the chapters embedded as I was looking to do.
However the file with multiple audio tracks would not create the chapterized file correctly, and it wasn't until I deleted all unused tracks to one audio track and podcast track that I got the desired result.
I would presume that performing a mixdown and importing the mixed down file into a new GB file to add chapters would be the work around to the issue and in essence be the equivalent to my deleting unused tracks.

Enhanced podcast problems

I am creating enhances podcast with Soundtrack Pro with images and URL links. When I export my project as an ACC enhanced podcast I am unable to click on the images and have them direct me to the embedded link. What am I doing wrong?

Just to clarify, I didn't realize the whole change directory command (cd) and the quotation of paths so that spaces and caps could be correctly altered. But wait! Now Apple has made this streamlined for me (As usual, a little delay, but as usual) and I don't even have to do the command line at all to create enhanced podcasts. A giant Hooray for that!

Enhanced podcast looses photos in itunes. Any ideas?

I have been trying to several days to create an enhanced podcast with photos. When I share it into itunes I have the cover art but none of the other pictures. I am sharing it as an AAC encoder not mp3. It transfers into iweb perfectly fine, but not itunes. Any ideas?

Please explain your problem better. There a no photos in iTunes.
You can sync photos from your computer to your iPod via iTunes. You select in the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes what folder of photos to sync to the iPod.

EPub Scanned Images without Text Flow

I am working on an ebook that has lots of complex illustrations, tables, captions. Scanning the images by converting them to JPEG is needed in order for the illlustrations and text to not move. Text flow is an option that I will not be able to offer.
How do I create an ePub book with scanned images without text flow. I did it once, but cannot remember how to do it.

Because if you read anything about creating EPUB files, you'll find that that's NOT how they're intended to be used.
For example, in the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article about EPUB, you'll read:
"EPUB is designed for reflowable content, meaning that the text display can be optimized for the particular display device used by the reader of the EPUB-formatted book. The format is meant to function as a single format that publishers and conversion houses can use in-house, as well as for distribution and sale."
So that's why InDesign exports EPUB the way it does.

Enhanced podcasts on iweb - embedded URLs misbehave

i create enhanced podcasts with chapters, embedded urls, pics. i usually export ('share') them to/with itunes and my iweb-created site. (as m4a files).
when they go to itunes, and are distributed through itunes, they behave properly, in that when a viewer clicks on an embedded URL link, the page pops open in a separate window and the podcast file stops playing.
when a visitor clicks and plays them from the website, the player opens in a browser window .. then when you click on an embedded url .... it leaves that browser window completely and goes to the page. but the podcast files simply closes ... so to go back to it .... you hit the backwards arrow, and you have to restart the podcast. stoopid. apple says it's hard wired that way, while admitting it's a dumb setup. does anyone know a way around this ? i'm not a code monkey, but i can do a little hacking if necessary. thanks ....

After checking out the history of photography, I see it uses a double text track with photo-jpeg track for the photos, this is a similar format for chapter markers on itunes movies, chapter markers are accessed via the up button on the remote, so the possibility that photos could be seen by a back door method isn't possible anyway because the up button already has a function for audio files on the tv.
In short no you can't see the photos I'm afraid.
