Enhanced podcasts on iweb - embedded URLs misbehave

i create enhanced podcasts with chapters, embedded urls, pics. i usually export ('share') them to/with itunes and my iweb-created site. (as m4a files).
when they go to itunes, and are distributed through itunes, they behave properly, in that when a viewer clicks on an embedded URL link, the page pops open in a separate window and the podcast file stops playing.
when a visitor clicks and plays them from the website, the player opens in a browser window .. then when you click on an embedded url .... it leaves that browser window completely and goes to the page. but the podcast files simply closes ... so to go back to it .... you hit the backwards arrow, and you have to restart the podcast. stoopid. apple says it's hard wired that way, while admitting it's a dumb setup. does anyone know a way around this ? i'm not a code monkey, but i can do a little hacking if necessary. thanks ....

After checking out the history of photography, I see it uses a double text track with photo-jpeg track for the photos, this is a similar format for chapter markers on itunes movies, chapter markers are accessed via the up button on the remote, so the possibility that photos could be seen by a back door method isn't possible anyway because the up button already has a function for audio files on the tv.
In short no you can't see the photos I'm afraid.

  • URL's in Enhanced podcasts not working?

I did some tests tonight, and confirmed that STP2 does NOT properly embed the URL's in enhanced podcasts. I confirmed this by producing a podcast w/ the URL's in Garageband and it works perfectly.
How do things like this slip by the testers and get shipped in final retail by Apple? I bought STP2 specifically do to podcasts, and it can't even do that right.
How do I file a bug with Apple on this?

  • Enhanced podcast not publishing - runs perfectly in iWeb

All of a sudden my enhanced podcasts (audio tracks with photos) won't publish properly to my site. They appear correctly and run properly in iWeb, but when published only have audio. I have tried publishing from different locations thinking it could be a firewall issue, but that did not work. Any ideas?

Ok, I have found the answer to my own question. After banging my head against the wall for a long time and trying countless different things to get the podcast to work. I decided to try upgrading my hosting plan from the free GoDaddy hosting plan to the economy hosting plan. And voila Everything worked like it was supposed to in the first place. I only realized that the free hosting plan might be the problem after I tried creating a direct download link to the podcast and it did not work either. So I figured there was something fishy with the way the site was being hosted and it couldn't hurt to give it a try.
So boys and girls the moral to this story is don't use the free hosting plan provided by GoDaddy

  • Enhanced Podcast Feature option grayed out, Displays URL

Does anyone know why the option Displays URL is grayed out all the time when creating an enhanced podcast?
I have tried adding valid URL's but the option is never available and when the podcast is generated no URL's are shown or available to click on.
This makes enhanced podcasts useless and hence iLife a pointless upgrade for me, if it dont work, it DONT work!
Is this me or have Apple released this without it working? Seems strange as there are pics of this option all over the iLife website.
    Glad of any help.

    There is nothing wrong!
Firstly, I am a fool! hahahaha
Secondly, If you have a 15" PowerBook you maybe don't notice that the last box you can see actually says "URL Title" and not just "URL"!!!
So enter a title, scroll right a bit and enter the URL.
    Everything will then work ok!
This may be of help to some other poor idiot that has done the same thing as me!
I can go back to LOVING GarageBand3 again, thank goodness!

  • Embedding pdf or show notes into a podcast in iweb

Is it possible to embed show notes or a pdffor download into a podcast using iweb? Either through Garage band or by editing the RSS and XML or some other way??

Here's a test page with an iTunes preview page enabled by using a simple iFrame code.....

  • Enhanced Podcast question(s)

I used SoundtrackPro to create an enhanced podcast. I shows up in iTunes as one long track (with chapters and graphics embedded) pretty much how I intended it show.
However 1) I'm not sure how to access the url links that I embedded in it as well (I thought clicking on the cover would do it but no...) 2) How can I get this podcast show up in a podcast directory instead of my music library?

    PS to the above:
I just plugged in my iPhone and it turns out that my podcast can't be dragged on it - I suppose it wants to there through syncing? So It's a bit of a hybrid file: neither a simple m4a nor a podcast.. sigh
(I did use the correct export settings in Soundtrack - AAC/Enhanced Podcast)

  • Enhanced Podcast breaks in Firefox

We're producing what we call an enhanced podcast. The workflow is completely Apple: iMovie=>GarageBand=>iWeb=>.Mac account. The podcast is audio only, but includes artwork, chapter markers and URLs all done in GarageBand. It plays flawlessly in iTunes, Safari, Opera and Flock, but displays that ugly shadowed Quicktime missing image with a built-in link to Quicktime download when loading in Firefox version 1.5 or 1.0.6. This is all on the same Powerbook G4 running 10.4.5. I've observed the same Firefox behavior on two WindowsXP machines as well, all running Quicktime 7.x. Any ideas?

This was resolved some time ago. Thanks.

  • Exporting Enhanced Podcast

Using GB 08 to create enhanced podcast with embedded jpeg files of PowerPoint presentation. Completed the episode and exported using export to iTunes but it only appears in iTunes as a AAC music files no images appear. I tried exporting to disk and adding to the iTunes library with same result.
The files will play and display images correctly using Quicktime but not iTunes. I also tried exporting to iWeb, hoping I could pull the converted file from there to upload into iTunes but no luck.
So what gives?! I've mixed results when using GarageBand to create podcasts and starting to think I should just stick to using iMovie to do this.
    Thanks
    Jerry

... it only appears in iTunes as a AAC music files no images appear.
Enhanced podcasts do appear as music files in iTunes. How the images are displayed depends on your iTunes settings. In my settings, for example, the image appears in that little window below the playlists, and if I close that window, I don't see anything at all. Maybe you have done that?

  • Special Handling of m4a 'enhanced' podcast files?

I decided to try an enhanced podcast for my first attempt at podcasting.
    I am getting into trouble.
First I notice that typing the url of my file in a browser window earns me an error message.
MP3s hosted in the same directory load up in a browser window just fine. m4a files somehow don't load at all. 404 error. MIME type error. My host swears there's nothing wrong with the way their servers are set up.
    At this point I have:
1 - an enhanced podcast m4a file, produced by Garage Band, and tested fine in iTunes.
    2 - a validated rss feed. http://www.asahramusic.net/podcasts/asahrafeed.xml
3 - a 'test' podcast (iWeb) of that same m4a file hosted on my iDisk. http://web.me.com/kolai/Site4/Podcast/Entries/2008/10/30_Sounds_at_thebeach.html
4 - an error message when I try to point my browser to the same file but this time hosted on my 'pro' host. http://www.asahramusic.net/podcasts/AsahraPodcastbyChrisBurns.m4a
Result: When I test the feed in iTunes (Advanced>Subscribe to Podcast) manually, all information tagged in the xml feed shows up fine. When I click to download the actual epidose I see iTunes spinning its wheel for half a second then hanging up. Kinda like my browser does..
Which leads me to believe there's something wrong with the way my host handles m4a files.
I thought I'd ask you all if there's anything I should know about m4a files or hosting enhanced podcasts in general.
    Thanks for any tip.

The correct URL for your media file appears to be
    http://web.me.com/kolai/Site_4//Media/Asahra%20Podcast%20-%20Chris%20Burns%20set .m4a
The '%20' bits are spaces in the filename, and you shouldn't do that, but the file will be located at this URL - I can't actually check whether it plays at the moment (I'm on Linux).
You should use this actual URL in your XML file, not the version starting with the domain name particularly as so far I can't find a version which works).

  • Enhanced podcast problems

I am creating enhances podcast with Soundtrack Pro with images and URL links. When I export my project as an ACC enhanced podcast I am unable to click on the images and have them direct me to the embedded link. What am I doing wrong?

Just to clarify, I didn't realize the whole change directory command (cd) and the quotation of paths so that spaces and caps could be correctly altered. But wait! Now Apple has made this streamlined for me (As usual, a little delay, but as usual) and I don't even have to do the command line at all to create enhanced podcasts. A giant Hooray for that!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that we also support the ability to read url (web links) from within the notes of your slides. Now you can take advantage of enhanced podcasts support for handling embedded links in your files.
With enhanced podcasts your audience will be able to see what you are talking about and visit the websites that you reference during your presentation by simply clicking on the current slide while they are playing the presentation back!
To use this feature, simply add the url (web link) that you want to embed in your podcast on the first line of the notes field in your presentation. Then set the title of the link that you want to be displayed by entering it on the second line of the notes field! ProfCast will read these urls and automatically generate links in your enhanced podcast file!

  • Enhanced podcasts

No where on Apple's site does it say that YOU MUST HAVE CHAPTER TOOL to post enhanced podcasts made in Garage band.
Yet it seems that other people on the web have posted this info.
    http://www.voxmedia.org/wiki/PodcastChapterTool#iPodChapterBug
Why doesn't Apple have all the info we need to create and upload enhanced podcasts using Garage band and iweb posting to .mac and itunes?
After many calls to apple care no one mentions this in any support area! Yet at macworld posting an enhanced podcast required no chapter tool or work in Terminal! Please post the actual way to do this! Somewhere official from Apple.

This forum is for the program iWeb, which is not involved in the creation of podcasts. You should post your problem in the forums for Garageband:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=127
In any case, in the forums you are just talking to other users like yourself. To convey your wishes to Apple, use the feedback channels.

  • Enhanced podcast looses photos in itunes. Any ideas?

I have been trying to several days to create an enhanced podcast with photos. When I share it into itunes I have the cover art but none of the other pictures. I am sharing it as an AAC encoder not mp3. It transfers into iweb perfectly fine, but not itunes. Any ideas?

Please explain your problem better. There a no photos in iTunes.
You can sync photos from your computer to your iPod via iTunes. You select in the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes what folder of photos to sync to the iPod.

Embedding links isn't something I've ever tried: I would suggest you ask in the GarageBand forum.

  • Podcasting with iweb and itunes.

Trying to get set up to podcast some of our programs and not having any luck.
We have an iweb site and when we are prompted to type in the feed URL , would that be our iweb sites URL? it comes back with cant read and invalid.
    What are we doing wrong?

What is prompting you for the "feed URL"? Can you be more specific?
I recommend reviewing this document for general Podcast information as related to iTunes:
