Enhanced Security, and indexed PDFs on Intranet
Hey here,
i need to upgrade to the new AR 9.1 companywide from 7.09. I created a SMS Package with the Deploymentwizard. Installation works fine so far.
Only problem i have is with some Technical Documentations on our Intranet. We have a lot of IndexPDFs there, which are linking to other PDFs in the Intranet. But these are no normal hyperlinks, the guys managed to add these as file:////servername/projectpath/document.pdf. Everything i tried so far to disable the Popup "The Document is trying to connect to..." wasn't working since i can't add the domain of our Intranet, Servernames etc. aren't working also include every file wouldn't work for me since there are some hundred documents in it.
Hope someone can help me out here .. and sorry for my bad english.
You can mantain this table in a separate user (administrative
user) and create a function under this user to validate
user and password. Grant privilege for the users to execute
this function, but not to select the table. In this way, any
user can execute this function but cannot query the table.
The only one allowed to query and update this table is the
owner. Based on Oracle concepts, if the user has rights to
execute a function or procedure, he automatically has implicit
rights to the objects being accessed by this function or
procedure. But to access these implicit objects directly,
he must have specific rights. I hope this can help you.

Securing and protecting PDFs produced from Oracle Documaker
Hi Experts,
Is there anyway to secure and edit/ password protect PDFs produced from Oracle Documaker? This will enable us to protect editing, copying of content from the PDF.
ThanksYes.
See Chapter 4 pages 63 through 79.

Hi!
I'm now building an extension for Photoshop. The script (jsx) should save the active document as Photoshop PDF secured with a password. The PW is the same all the time and is set in the script. Then the script is to open the PDF with that same password. I need all this to protect the PDF from opening by a user, so that only the script has access to the file.
I've googled a lot. I've seen a similar topic on this community dated as 2012. It's not answered. With an only comment saying that saving with a password seems to be possible via GUI and not via a script.
Has anything changed since 2012?
P.S. Illustrator .documentPassword and .requireDocumentPassword don't work in PS and ScriptListener still gives nothing :-/ScriptListener still gives nothing
Which probably means the task is (still) not possible to achieve with Photoshop Scripting.
Both Photoshop DOM and AM seem to have weaknesses/omissions that I would consider more relevant but if you regard the issue as crucial you may want to post a Feature Request over at

IE 11 Enhanced Security improperly enabled for one user in domain
I'm running a small network with two domain controllers which use Server 2008 R2 Standard. The clients all run Windows 7 with the latest updates. Today one user suddenly started having their browser always start in Enhanced Security mode on the Windows
7 clients! This happens for any client in the domain, but it does not happen when then user logs into the terminal server for the domain. I use roaming profiles and redirected folders. I have separate profiles for the Terminal server from those used for the
local computers. I have restored the user's profile to last week when the problem was not happening, but it did not help. It does not happen for any other user in the network, even if the user logs in on the same computer. So there is something in the user's
environment that is causing the problem. I have reset IE 11 to default and it still comes up in with Enhanced Security for that user on the Windows 7 clients. I've searched the internet for this problem without success. So I figured this out. I think that it is a mis-feature in Server 2008. The particular user is a member of the Backup Operators security group on the domain. Recently they did a backup on the server and then this problem started.
It appears that even though they are not a server administrator or a domain administrator, the Enhance Security settings got put into their roaming profile and when they logged into their workstation, the settings got applied to IE on their workstation.
If I turned of Enhance Security on the server for only users, the problem still happened for this user, even though they are only a Backup Operator, not an administrator. If I turned off Enhanced security on the server for administrators, logged in and out
of the server as this user, then the problem went away.
So it seems that Backup Operators are viewed as "administrators" by Enhanced Security and if you use roaming profiles for such users, Enhanced Security will be enabled for such users on their workstations. Yuck.
Easiest solution is probably to have a separate user account for the backup role on the server. -
When I try to combine two pdf's, it asks for a permission password and says the documents are protected; however, I didn't put any protection/security in the documents. I assume it is a default security under the enhanced security settings of the Acrobat Pro XI which I recently purchased.
Acrobat (Pro or Standard) does not apply a "default" protection. It appears that someone or some other process has applied protection.
Be well... -
I know its a little unorthodox - but due to some security and
search-spider constraints for a project I'm on, we need to post PDF
documentation to our website rather than HTML Help or WebHelp.
My question is this - is there a way when generating a PDF
from RoboHelp, to have the index that was created in the project be
converted to a PDF page(s) with links in it that when clicked will
take the user to the location in the PDF where the word they
clicked on in the index appears.
Basically, I'm looking for the index in the PDF to function
much the same as it would in HTML Help or WebHelp. The reason for needing the PDF is a bit convoluted, but I
will try to explain it to the best of my ability.
First, the content which the client is trying to post is
actually not a "Help" system, but actually more of a document, a 50
page guide to be exact.
As for security, CHM files are out of the question as using
them would require changes to our servers which our Information
Security team refuses.
As for the WebHelp format, as the document itself is part of
a larger website, all of its content need to accessible to
search-engine spiders. Since Web Help utilizes frames, and frames
are a roadblock for spiders, the only way around this would be a
decent amount of additional development to make each section of
content within the Web Help directly accessible through some
indexed page of links - which isn't practical for us with this
document.
Therefore we chose PDF, as it is indexible and the contents
can be read by spiders. The reason the client would like to use
RoboHelp to generate the PDF is in order to take advantage of the
Content Managment features it provides. -
I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here

Adobe Reader X and Indexing Service - pdf content not searchable
Install Adobe Reader X on a Windows 2003 machine with Indexing Service installed. Create a catalog (folder) and point indexing service at it so that documents are indexed. Verify indexing is working with a simple text file. New copy a pdf file into the folder. You will see in Computer Management the file appear to be indexed. Now simply query the catalog - the file contents are not indexed. The iFilter that gets installed should allow indexing service to index pdf file contents and return search results when the catalog is queried.
Hi MT.Freelance
The way that "Welcome Pages" are done in Acrobat X has changed from Acrobat 9, what you are seeing looks like a bug related to these changes.
If you would like to log a bug on this issue the form for bug reports can be found here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&promoid=E WQQL

Indexing and Searching PDF Files
Hi All,
I am trying to store and search PDF files in the oracle database.
I can insert and index the PDF files just fine but cannot get any result. I always get No Rows.
Here's what I am doing and the issues I am facing.
I created a Table with fields
ID (VARCHAR)
NAME (VARCHAR)
DOC (BLOB)
I inserted the PDF file in the BLOB field through a Java program and insert worked fine as I verified by retreiving the PDF and writing to file.
I created index using following SQL:
create index my_index on PDF_TABLE(PDF_FLD) indextype is ctxsys.context
parameters ('datastore ctxsys.default_datastore
filter ctxsys.inso_filter');
The index was created successfully without any problems.
I ran query as follows and got no rows although the searched text is in PDF
SELECT SCORE(1), PDF_FLD from PDF_TABLE WHERE CONTAINS (PDF_FLD, 'Table of Cotents',
1) > 0;
I tried alternate queries as well with no luck.
Any ideas ??
ThanksAfter creation the index you need execute next operations.
first, check that your index tables conatins indexed terms. Execute
select token_text from dr$YOUR_INDEX$i;
Second, you will need to check the index errors table CTX_INDEX_ERRORS. This is owned by the user CTXSYS, and most users do NOT have # SELECT privilege to it by default.
If it's OK, then check that your PDF documents is supported by INSO filter.

Acrobat Versions 2.1, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 including Japanese PDF"
(Appendix B. Supported Document Formats in Oracle Text Reference 9.2)
For Oracle 9i you could install 9.2.0.4 patchset (it included INSO FILTER 7.5)
P.S.
for the beginning, you could find answers for your question about Oracle Text here

I just want the protection tools to show on the Tools dropdown! So I can use them...
Hi Sara,
Thanks for putting me in the right place. I'm not much of an
online-community person!
Here's what happened after your email:
1. I went into Acrobat and clicked the down arrow as you described. I
previously had been clicking in the View menu. I saw the Protection
tools and I was so excited.
2. So then I clicked on "allow multiple panels open" whereupon the
Protection tools disappeared! They did not reappear when I unclicked the
"allow multiple panels open".
3. Remembered that I hadn't reinstalled the updates after reinstalling
Acrobat in hopes that would fix this problem, so I installed the
updates. I'm now on 11.0.07.
Sadly, still no protection tools appearing in either the View-> Toolsets
or the down-arrow in the upper-right corners of the Tools panel. Bummer.
This is so strange, since the same installation worked great on our Win8
server!

PDF security and imposition software
I've recently be putting security on my PDFs when I email them to the printer for digital printing. The security gives the printer high quality printing access but no file editing. The printer is telling me that the security is causing difficulty with his imposition software. Unsecured PDFs are imposed and print without a hitch. Secured files stuff him up. Is there a way around this other than sending him unsecured files.
ThanksIt's a very common question, and as Michael says there's not a lot you can do. Even doing the imposition yourself is unlikely to help, as most commercial raster image processors (RIPs - the software which turns your document with its fonts, graphics etc into the pattern of dots needed to physically generate the image on the printing drum) need unencrypted files.
If the print shop has an ad-hoc workflow which supports encryption (such as printing direct from Acrobat in the way desktop users do), there are plugins for Acrobat to handle the page imposition; but it's not something native to the application and the printer will have to give you very precise directions as to what layout to create. Many print shops won't entertain that idea unless there's an overriding commercial reason, as it's too much hassle for them to deal with errors in the client plates. Worth asking, but I doubt they'll agree to it.
Given the need to send unsecured files to an external contractor for printing, your "protection" is in the form of the contract, not digital encryption. The former can be settled in court if they break the terms, the latter can be bypassed in ten seconds and you'll probably never know. If the files are truly too sensitive to send to anyone, it's time to get yourself a laser printer - these days the machines many local print shops rely on are in essence a color photocopier, and you can rent them for about the same price. -
Indexing and Searching pdf files which are used as attachment in an Announcemnet list item
Hi all,
I am using a SharePoint 2013 online environment and trying to search and find pdf files which are attached to a announcement list item. However it does not find anything when I search for the name of the pdf file or the content of the pdf file.
When I attach a word to the list item it gets indexed and it find the file.
thanks and appreciate every kind of advice. Are you able to search for pdfs in other locations? SharePoint 2013 comes with an iFilter out of the box unlike 2010 which needed configuration.

Blank form from trusted folder/privileged location with enhanced security
See http://superuser.com/questions/459138/adobe-reader-not-loading-form-content
When opening an fdf from a command line the form fields are blank even though there is data in the fdf and the pdf is located in a mnaully entered trsuted folder.
Steps to reproduce:
Clean install a Windows 7 PC (or use a virtual box)
Map a network drive to a shared folder with a subfolder e.g. c:\test\docs becomes m:\docs
Set security permissions to allow full control to everyone
Add an fdf and a matching pdf file in the subfolder
Manually add m:\docs to each of the trusted folders in the trust manager registry settings
Ensure that Enhanced Security is on
Run a command line to open the fdf file
Expected result:
pdf is opened in Adobe Reader with form fields filled out with data
Actual results:
pdf is opened with blank fields
'Yellow bar' appears asking to add document to trusted locations
It appars that Adobe Reader XI is ignoring the privileged locations entries in the registry. Adding the document via the 'yellow bar' adds the individual document, with the same folder, to the privileged locations but means that the process has to be repeated for every document that needs to be opened from the folder.
Note that I've submited this as a bug but had no reply.when i search for sun java plugin.
i got the link
