Enhanced speed

I pay for enhanced speed internet but the speed test I did showed it at .33 not even 1mps!!! Why should I keep paying 40 a month if I am not getting the speed I am paying for

Some upload results, along with a ping result and some Transceiver Statistics would be appreciated in this case. If you need help finding how to get the Transceiver Statistics, tell us what modem you have (make and model) and if you have any separate routers.

  • MINUS on a 4 million row table - how to enhance speed?

I have a query like this:
    select col1, col2, col3
    from table1
    MINUS
    select col1, col2, col3
    from EXTERNAL_TABLE
table1 has approximately 4 million records and external file has roughly 4 milllion rows.
MINUS takes around 25 mins here. How can I speed up?
    Thanks in Advance!!!

To make something go faster, you first need to know what makes it slow.
Simple actually - to solve a problem we need to know what the problem is. Can't answer a question without knowing what the question is.
Reading a total of 8 million rows means a lot more I/O than usual... so that is likely a culprit for the slow performance. If that is the case, you will need to find a way to increase the time it takes to perform all that I/O. Or do less I/O.
But you need to pop the hood and take a look at just what is causing what you think is slow performance. (it may not even be slow - it may be as fast as it can do given the hardware and other limitations that are imposed on Oracle and this MINUS process)

  • Poor connection and speed - new ideas please!

I'm hoping that someone might have an idea that hasn't already been suggested - I'm desperate.
Bear with me while I explain the issue as a lot of it was actually with Sky (but is recurring with BT).
I moved into a new house in February this year and had a phone/broadband connection with Sky.  At no point since then were they able to get me a stable connection or reasonable speeds.  Connection also drops if the phone is used.
Promised between 1-3mbps actually got on average between 0.15 and .80 mbps.
During countless calls to their technical services they'd tweak settings and adjust this and that and occasionally the speed would go up over 1mbps only to drop off within a day.
Sky sent new microfilters and even a new router.  They also sent a BT Broadband engineer to test the voice line - he said everything was fine although the phone line was crackley.
After months of this I spoke to BT sales who said (when I specifically asked why they'd be better than BT and how do I know the problem won't just recurr with them) that their router was the best in the business and that anyway I'd be able to buy the accelerator to enhance speeds whatever they turned out to be.
So I signed up with BT and cancelled Sky.  BT broadband and phone were connected on Thursday this week.
I was overjoyed on Thursday to see a connection speed 1.7mbps (it's so sad that that's a good speed for me!) but this quickly dropped off.  Turns out I can't install the accelerator as I have the wrong type of socket.
Yesterday the speeds were around 160kbps (I'm aware that it might take a few days to stabilise).  The connection itself has been much worse than Sky.  It was off ALL of yesterday apart from a hour or so in the morning.  It was off this morning from 6am to about 10 minutes ago.
    So that's the background.
Basically I've had new microfilters, new routers, new phone, new wires (ethernet and phone), engineers checking the BT voice line, changes of wireless channel, moving router to different sockets, unplugging the phone entirely, unplugging the TP wireless connector for Sky Anytime +.
Pretty much - you name it I've done it.
I haven't yet contacted BT engineers.  Soon as I pick up the phone the internet connection will drop (same reason I haven't yet tried the quiet phone line test).  I'll do it later once I posted this message in the hope that someone out there will have a different idea of what might be going on.
Important note - my house is brand new.  It doesn't have the normal master socket / test socket setup.  It has a grey external test socket.  All interior sockets are plain single piece sockets.  I've had the covers off all of them to confirm.
My neighbours are having similar problems.  Assuming that the BT engineers are right and that there's nothing wrong with the line to the house(s) and nothing wrong with the equipment within the house (big coincidence that both Sky AND BT's stuff would be broken) I'm left with the only possible other bit - the lines/sockets between where the BT line enters the house and the equipment.
Is it feasible that this could have been installed incorrectly?  How would I check?
Any suggestions welcomed (as long as it's not changing microfilters - I could open a microfilter shop I have so many).
Thank you for bearing with me - I really appreciate it.

Hi - thanks for the replies.  Sorry for not responding sooner - broadband has just come back on.
Unfortunately before I read your reply I contacted BT helpdesk (India) and told them the whole story...  They did a line test and said they were escalating it to the exchange engineers and they'll be calling me back tomorrow - so we'll see.
From what you've said it sounds like I need to concentrate on getting the phone line fixed first (I rarely use it so haven't been that bothered).  I read somewhere else that a similar problem might have been caused from the cabinet - corrosion in the connections etc. no idea if that applies to my case but at least it's another angle.
The connection is coming and going at the moment - couple of minutes on and then off again for a while.
    Thanks again for your suggestions.

  • Photoshop CS6 so slow

I've been running the cloud version of CS6 for a few months, and in the last several weeks, Photoshop has become incredibly slow, and often gets stuck on the "reading preferences" at startup.  I went through all the suggested things, (got rid of bad fonts, downloaded brushes as they were INCREDIBLY slow, and reset some settings to enhance speed), but it's barely made a dent.  I already contacted Apple support, and they said it's only an issue with the Adobe software.  Also, it reallllllly doesn't like to open .ai documents in psd, which is a problem for me as I need to work in both every day.  Any advice?

Run your disk utility to repair permissions, use tools like OnyX to remove stray temp files, check PS' recovery function and memory settings. Contrary to urban legend, Macs are not indestructible and can suffer such systemic issues as well.

  • Adobe Reader X Issues

A user's computer with Adobe Reader X isntalled (when viewing a PDF file) gets blocked at the top and on  the left side. It appears that there are multiple toolbars at the top that are now just blank and a side bar on the left that stretches from the left side into the center of the document. The menu bar is also blank, the File, Edit, Options, do not show. I can tell something that appears to be tool bars are blocking the entire view, because if I zoom out far enough, the document will becom small enough to fit in the small viewable screen. The same view, carries over to the print preview window. If the user prints the document, it prints fine. Besides this, the computer and other programs works fine. I've un-installed Adobe Reader, re-downloaded and re-installed it, downloaded and installed the latest video driver, still having this issue. Computer is a Dell Otptiplex with Windows 7 Professional (32 Bits), 4 MB of RAM, and is updated with all Windows Updates. This user has been dealing with this for soo long, he does not remember when or how it started. The user is part of a domain that has a corporate antivirus and malware protection which I'd like to think would detect any virus if he caught any.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
    Thanks,

  • Reader X issues Viewing PDF's with IE downloads turned off

First off, Our company has a policy that Internet downloads are turned off through GP for IE. We recently upgraded from Adobe 6.06 (had active x control to view PDF's online) to adobe X. We are looking for a way to view PDF's through the IE 8 browser with file Downloads disabled. When trying to view a PDF on the Web, we get "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". Previously, the active x control in reader 6.x allowed viewing PDF's on the web. Is there any way to allow this in adobe X? can code be written to alleviate this? Is there a solution? HELP anyone please. It's driving me NUTTY!!

  • Question about rendering, it's too slow :( please help.

i've been trying to find videos explaining how to make rendering faster. Example i make a video that's 10 seconds short just to see how the result is in windows media player, it takes like 10 minutes for it to render.
I've heard about the ''secret'' menu and i tried it too. However, it's the same result again. Does anybody know how to make previewing and rendering faster.
Even when i try and preview my work, it takes ages for it to load then be able to preview it normally.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

And for the ''my car doesn't turn up'' statement, how can i know what to specify if this is my first time i ask a question about AE and don't know what to include in my question.
Hey iverecords, here is a tip to help us help you by providing the most infos as you can in your question. Because there is never one definitive answer to a question, and because there are millions of hardware/software combinaison, we can't guess what you have, and how you're trying to achieve it.
So let's take an exemple with your rendering problem.
Let see what can affect your rendering speed:
    1) your hardware (inculding OS and network if working on network drive)
Sure, the new fancy processors are faster than yesturday ones. Obviously, running on Windows95 or Windows 7 (same applies for Mac OSX Tiger to OSX Snow Leopard) can make a difference. Same as writing files over a network, or on a usb external drive.
    2) what you are rendering (your composition)
Applying dozens of effects on a few layers don't render at the same speed than a hundred of layers without effects.
    3) your AE version and settings.
Every AE release brings new enhancement / speed, so depending on your version there might be that little hepfull setting.
So as a starter, for us to help you, we need to know these 3 key elements.
We all have started one day asking questions to get help online, so we all already made that mistake of not giving enough info. So now you know you should always give us that much of info, and then we'll be able to narrow down the problems and help you find the way to the answer.
    Cheers,
    Seb

  • IPOD not recognized/copying to disc failed: Toshiba Laptop USB the issue!

Just got my IPOD back from servicing (needed new battery). While syncing, every 20 or 30 songs a message appeared: Attempting to copy to the disk failed...
I kept trying, but eventually Itunes (and Windows) wouldn't even recognize the IPOD (even the IPOD gave up...would flash the "do not disconnect" for a few seconds then immediately default back to default mode (menus, etc.) I could not restore.
My symptoms seemed to be similar to lots of other problems I saw in the discussion boards. THEN...I somehow linked to this file:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
I had to use my Toshiba laptop's Device Manager to disable the "enhanced" speed USB port. Presto! Immediately the IPOD was recognized and updated FULLY (albeit at very slow speed). (2 hours for 850 tunes). What I don't understand is why this suddenly started to happen? HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE !

  • Setup RAID: boot drive is F, not C???

    HI,
I configured my RAID to work as stripe (0) but the boot drive becomes F. I want it to be C.
    I have the following:
old HD and CD burner at IDE 0.
    SCSI DVD at acsi contoller.
To install I have to boot from the WinXP cd. So the drive(s) must be connected. But I only ca ninstall windows on drive F. (the next free driver letter). I want to install it on C.
    MB: K7T Turbo MS-6330
How can I do this? (maybe with first boot device etc ??)
    Thanks,
    Bjorn

I have had the K7T Turbo v.3 board for about a year or so.
I never have tried the built-in RAID, because I hadn't needed to, for any reason.  But now, I need the enhanced speed and performance that (supposedly) a stipe RAID can provide.  So, while trying to re-load Windows XP with my 2 WD 30GB drives attached to the RAID IDE slots, I get error in setup stating that the partition is either invalid or damaged.  Prior to changing from regular EIDE to RAID slots, there was NO DAMAGE OR PROBLEMS WITH EITHER DRIVES.  I was working with the "one for all" Promise FastTrack Lite driver from a third-party site, simply because my diskette from the MFG is in storage in another location.  What can I do to get the RAID stripe to work?  The error occurs, by the way, while windows setup is formatting the system partition.  I really would like to use the capabilities of my MB, since that's part of the reason why I purchased this particular model (even if it was a while ago) and it is still a considerable investment, especially if I am going to have to replace the mainboard and/or RAID controller.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am asking for replies to be sent to my email address, below.  Thank you in advance.  This note is also being copied and sent to the folks at MSI, in hopes that someone will be able to help me soon.  I cannot afford to be without a working PC for more than a period of two full days, otherwise I lose too uch time, which translates directly into money, if you get what I mean.  THANKS,
    Dusty S.

  • Cordially invited to join BT total broadband

I have been with BT Broadband for many years and on Bt Total broadband option 3,  8Mb max. [ Was on option 4 previously. ]
I have now received a " You are cordially invitation to join Bt Total Broadband " email with some of the options I already get plus an enhanced speed up to 20Mb.
I am confused. Is this just a marketing email aimed at everybody irrespective of whether or not  they are already in contract or is it some strange way of upgrading existing customers to a 20Mb service.

Their database details for users' actual existing product must be wildly out of date. There is actually no reason to have sent this same email to everyone. If they wish to market a product the user hasn't got, then that's different. This is effectively junk email - and along with the IMHO silly subject title, looks even more ridiculous. Who uses "cordially" these days ? It looks like a Thesaurus was used to generate it .....

  • Powerbook G3 Needs Some Kind of USB-type backup

(Please understand I have NO idea about computers, except that I like them and use them.) I have a wonderful old Wallstreet II, it has OS 9.2, it works well, and it is essentially Naked. No backup drive, no CD burner, nothing. I do not want to connect it to the internet. I do want to preserve my files.
I need to know what to use in order to "convert" the PCMCIA into a USB port. I'd like to back my files up to a USB stick if that's even possible. I'm looking for a very simple and hopefully inexpensive solution.
I do have a notebook card, but it turns out it is not compatible with this operating system. Also I can't seem to find out if USB sticks will just work with an old Mac. There's all kinds of info on using notebook cards to enhance speed, to plug in to printers (I'd be interested in that too), to connect things to video cameras, etc. I just need basic, hard drive backup to protect my work. That's it. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

You can use a PCMCIA USB card to get USB capability. You may need to reinstall OS 9.2 with the card installed to make sure the USB system files get installed. I did this on my Wallstreet. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2370293&tstart=25

  • Eris OTA update today

I just got an OTA update for my Eris today. I thought it might be Froyo (wishful thinking). I'm still on 2.1, so does anybody know what this update was for?
    Edit: Found it. http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-eris-owners-update-coming-july-16
This is a mandatory maintenance release.
    - Improved audio controls
    - Enhanced speed dial
    - Improved text, video, and picture messaging
    - Contacts now sync with backup assistant, activesync, and facebook
    - Weather app/widget is enhanced and stabilized
    - Will now pair with Jabra bluetooth headsets
    - Gmail contacts will easily sync with the Eris

    demmo86rt,
Just read this post (below) that came out today. Apparently Verizon is pushing an "update" over the next week to fix the 2.1 distasters/bugs, but it's not an Android 2.2 upgrade.

  • IDE/ADA Control Drivers

My pc came with AMD hardware (cpu&gpu) as a 'customer to order' model and as time passed I opted for an SSD drive. Running several different types of utilities to check the read and write speeds I noticed I was getting SATAII (3gb) speeds rather than the stated SATAIII (6gb) speeds, using AMD SATA control drivers.
I found that if I uninstalled the AMD SATA drivers in Device Manager windows auto installed an older Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller, which produced SATAIII speeds.
Is there a reason AMD SATA drivers reduce  speed rather than enhance speeds? I am all ears if someone can tell me why the newer drivers slow down the read and write functions. The older ATA drivers were released with Win7 circa 2006 whereas the newer drivers have the latest issued circa 11/2013.

Stay on your on your other post since you claim to have a BIOS issue and not the driver issue that you claim on this post.

  • Can airport pick up a signle thats faster then 54mbps

    hey
i'm going to buy a wireless router for my house and i dont know what one to buy, i was looking at the Netgear's RangeMax, but that has speeds up to 108mbps and i saw that airport goes up to 54mbps. will my ibook g4 with a airport extreme card be able to connect at 108mbps wirelessly with that or does the airport max out at 54mbps. i hope someone could help me. thanks you very much

"Enhanced speed" wireless routers only work at those higher speeds when the computer connecting to it also has an enhanced-speed wireless interface from the same manufacturer - and no card adapters of this type are available for Macs. Any other computer connecting to these routers (like a Mac equipped with an Airport card) will only connect at the standard speeds allowed by 802.11g. Therefore there is no advantage to paying extra for this feature on a Mac-only wireless network - just buy a basic 802.11b/g wireless router.

  • Performance compared to flash player

Hi, do AIR apps have some sort of performance enhancement (speed) over the same content running from the flash player (not considering permission differences, just speed)? If so, is this valid for all systems, like samsung smart tvs that ar capable of running both flash player on browsers and air apps?

I am no adobe guru but I would think the answer is no, the performance depends on the devices CPU/GPU/Browser etc. and to a lesser extent the OS.
