Enhanced USB Replicator - blank external monitor

I have a new SL500 with an Enhanced USB Port Replicator. When I install the port replicator drivers, the external monitor works fine the first time and there is an icon for "Lenovo Display Adapter" in the system tray. But after a reboot the external monitor is blank and there is no icon for "Lenovo Display Adapter" in the system tray. I tried downloading the latest Enhanced USB Port Replicator drivers - no help; and I tried downloading DisplayLink drivers - no help. Any ideas??? Thanks

My external monitor seems to be working now. I'm not sure if this is what fixed it, but this is what I did:
Installed the DisplayLink driver (this driver made a big difference in the clarity of my external monitor)
After installing the DisplayLink driver, I noticed an error in the Administrative Events Log (in Vista: Control Panel - Computer Management - System Tools - Event Viewer - Custom Views - Administrative Events). The error was:
The DisplayLink Service service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.
So, I changed the setting for Interactive Service. In Vista, go to Control Panel - Computer Management - Services and Applications - Services. Find the Service called, Interactive Services Detection. Open it up and change the Startup Type field to Automatic (it was previously set to manual).
After doing this, my external monitor is working nicely even after a reboot.

Blank external monitor - XP

I have an external monitor - HP w2207h, flat panel. When booting into the Mac OS this monitor works fine. When Windows XP is running this external monitor is not available. However, when booting into XP, the initial Windows XP splash screen (the black one with the Windows logo and blue, short progress bar at bottom center) displays on both my MBP screen and my external monitor. However, once the XP boot process passes this point, the external monitor displays a message saying "monitor going to sleep," goes blank and stays blank. I have checked all of my video/display settings as best I can. I have gone through the Trouble Shooting steps provided by Windows and still have been unable to get the external monitor to work.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the exact same issue here on my T60. I've reinstalled all of the ATI drivers from the Lenovo site. I'm still staring at a blank second monitor. My laptop detects the alalog connection, but does not recognize the Digital connection. I've tried both with and without the docking station. Any help is appreciated.

Macbook not recognizing USB ports from external monitor.

I have a Dell Monitor hooked up to the VGA port and have several items (printer, external hard drive) hooked into the ports on the Dell monitor. My Macbook is not recognizing the things that are plugged into the monitor.
These ports were working at one point but when I moved my setup and had to plug everything back in I can't get the USB ports on the monitor to work.
Along the same lines...I tried connecting the monitor to my laptop with a USB cable (female port from back of monitor to male port on Macbook) along with the VGA port. This did not fix the problem but I just wanted to know (had my laptop been recognizing the ports) if this was even necessary.
Since this setup has worked before I'm thinking it is something small that I am missing but any help would be appreciated.

Blank external Monitor

When I connect the laptop to an external Apple Monitor everything works except I get a blank screen. It goes into duo monitor mode and even gives me the preferences and the information in "about this Mac' but the display is blank. Ideas?

Something silly about USB facility on external monitor

I confess here that 1) it's not a Mac monitor; 2) it's new monitor (and therefore I'm in the wrong category .... but thought this is probably the most appropriate topic heading).
This Dell monitor has 4 USD socket on it - which is great.
However (and I assume the same would apply to a Mac monitor...) when I put the Powerbook to sleep and turn off the monitor, I get that scary info box when I wake the powerbook up which says I removed a device the wrong way and the info on it might be destroyed and my family and cat taken to Siberia and shot.
So I try turning off the monitor [after] the PB is asleep, but that causes the Pb to wake up again (which defeats the object).
I wonder if there's anything to be done here to get round this??

Oh, it shouldn't be doing that. It should go into a deep sleep state where the backlight is out and the energy usage falls to a tiny fraction, like no more than 2 watts, and maybe less than 1. So you need to find out why the monitor isn't going into deep sleep.

Enhanced USB Port Replicator under Vista with blank taskbar

I have an annoying bug where the vista taskbar goes blank under Vista. I'm running an X300 with the Enhanced USB Port Replicator attached to an external monitor. I have set the external monitor as the primary monitor. With this configuration, the taskbar usually goes blank -- i.e. the taskbar shows nothing except a window frame and the start button. There are no applications shown, no quicklaunch icons, no tooltray icons... nothing. The taskbar is still functioning correctly, and it will show thumbnails of open applications, or allow you to click on any items that are there but not displayed. Any idea why this bug is there or how to fix it.
I found it really annoying and problematic till I found an quick workaround... unlock the taskbar and stretch it out and it will begin displaying properly again.

I have an X301 running Vista Business. The 2 second freezes are really annoying.

Help - T42p and Lenovo Enhanced Port Replicator does not external monitor

I had an old style port replicator that supported my ThinkVision 17" flat panel monitor. The port replicator died and I got a replacement - Lenovo Enhanced port replicator. If I go to the Control panel/Display it now shows 3 monitors and when I try to enable #2 or #3 it takes the extend my desktop setting but when you press the identify button it only recognizes #1 (my T42). My external monitor is blank..............any ideas where to start?

No, I could not get help from any place. I did some research on my own and realized that the Lenovo port replicator (with Lenovo name on it) is actually theTargus ACP50 which is sold as a universal port replicator. The difference is that the Lenovo unit has a driver specific to Lenovo. I even went to Targus website and download their latest “generic” driver. The driver worked with the Lenovo computer fine, but still does not resolve the issues that you and I see. So I concluded that it is the port replicator crappy design.

Enhanced USB port replicator 43R8811 and dual monitor

I have problem with USB port replicator. I cannot put a right resolution to monitor (wide screen monitor). Replicator's settings say that I can use up to 1280x1024 resolution but monitor support i.e. 1400x1050 resolution which port replicator should support by user manual.
If I put monitor direct to my X300 laptop I can use monitor's right resolution (1680x1050).
Is it drivers problem or what that I cannot put a right settings?

I'm having trouble understanding your phrasing.
The Enhanced USB Port Replicator I recently purchased supports 1440x900 and can be configured to do so. I did have to install the drivers by downloading from the web (they were provided on a CD -- convenient since my laptop came with no CD/DVD drive :-). Once the drivers were installed, it happily suports 1440x900. Did you already install the software? Older versions of the port replicator don't support above 1280x1024, but that should not be the case with the Enhanced one.
So you should be able to set any resolution up to 1440x900.
Of course "1400x1050" would be a higher resolution than 1440x900, and thus not supported right?

Port Replicator loses connection to 2 external monitors and moves all the windows to the main screen

I recently purchased a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video (0A33942) to use with my Lenovo ThinkPad E530 laptop and two external monitors. One of the monitors is plugged into the port replicator with a VGA cord and the other one is plugged in directly into the laptop also with VGA.
The issue I'm having is randomly during the day, both screens will go blank, when they come back up everything that was open on the second screen gets moved to the main one. This happens about 15 times a day and although not a life threatening issue, it's still more of an annoyance moving everything back to the second screen as it was originally set up.
I have gone to Power Options and I have switched the sleep mode to 'Never'. Anyone have any suggestions? This is really driving me nuts. I tried calling Lenovo support and they told me this wasn't in "their scope" of support issues.

this is a driver incompatibility issue, it happens with some displaylink devices. I had this problem with the Lenobo USB 2.0 port replicator before.
Since the E530 has USB 3.0, i suggest you get a Lenovo's USB 3.0 dock, which will support 2 external LCD (but only one of the dvi on the dock can be converted to vga).

X300: External Monitors and port replicator

The X300 looks really good, but when not traveling I'd be using it with a 24" 1920x1200 monitor.
A couple questions I can't see to find answers for:
1) Is the X300 capable of driving that resolution for an external monitor?
2) Assuming a good answer to #1, it seems like the new USB-based docking station has an resolution of 1440x or 1400x. Can the replicator be used, but skip using the video out and, instead, just use the video out from the X300?
Using the port replicator may not make sense that way since I might as well just plug everything in manually, but wanted to ask.

ed, it's an obvious question with a not-so-obvious answer. the specs actually come from intel's published info on the X3100 integrated graphics. for whatever reason lenovo doesn't list their systems' output capabilities in easily-accessible documentation. not even the X300 topseller announcement letter mentions display output. i've never understood this as it would clear up many customers' questions and uncertainties.
this makes a thinkpad's ability to output high resolution is a perpetually-confusing topic. to help put things in perspective, it takes only 12MB of video memory to drive 2048x1536 @ 32-bit and only 9MB to drive 1920x1200 @ 32-bit. the X300 with its ability to use up to 384MB of shared system memory can easily drive two displays simultaneously within the VGA limitations on each port; 2048x1536 on-board and 1400x1050 via the port replicator.

Is the Enhanced USB Port Replicator Really Hot-Pluggable?

Folks,
I have the T61 and am just getting to know the very nice Enhanced USB Port Replicator. We have a wireless KB/mouse, video and external hard drive, as well as the ethernet cable, all plugged in.
SITUATION "HOT PLUGGABLE": The somewhat sparse documentation (that's probably a good thing, if it works as advertised) says that the whole thing is "hot pluggable", and specifically mentions hard drives. The implication is you don't have to turn your laptop off to disconnect. WOW, a huge time saver (and a distinction with the Dell laptop I have at work, with a docking station that corrupts the files if you don't shut everything down before disconnecting).
BUT SEAGATE HAS WARNING: Seagate documentation for the popular FreeAgent Pro line of stylish external hard drives says that you absolutely MUST execute the Vista "USB safe removal" gambit in order to prevent file corruption -- or even partition corruption on your external drive. THEN THEY EVEN SUGGESTION UNPLUGGING THE DATA AND POWER CABLES. This is now in the realm of fantasy as well as inconvenience. Which leads me to think that the documentation was written by a lawyer and not a technical person.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? Is the new "Enhanced USB technology", which is written about on USB resource sites, capable of providing true, safe storage hot pluggability?
FOOTNOTE: I'd like to believe the thing is truly hot-pluggable. I'm just wondering if there are any open files related to the whole real-time backup thing from the Seagate software, if this would cause a problem. Is the USB smart enough to handle that?

download the keyboard customiser software, in which you can assign a certain key to function as the Fn key on the laptop keyboard. After unpacking go to your driver/swtool folder and then install it from there.

Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
Open System Preferences.
Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display

I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor. I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty. In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in. The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx). I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also. However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in. I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below. Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. Xrandr 1.2 provides means for this. But today the only supported configuration is xorg-server-1.3 + xf86-video-intel-2.0. So for Radeon you'll have to wait for drivers that support Randr 1.2.
On my laptop (Thinkpad x60s) that would be:
xrandr --output VGA --auto
xrandr --output LVDS --off

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.
What model MacBook Pro do you have, by year, CPU speed or MacBook Pro 3.1 designation?

Dual monitor (w/laptop): external monitor is blank.

Hi! just installed arch for the first time a day ago. Right now what I'm working on is on getting my second monitor running (mostly for development purposes... and movies ^__^).
I'm using Arch64 with the open ATI driver and KDE. Whenever I connect the external monitor, the monitor seems to detect a connection occurred (the "check video cable" message disappears when I connect it and comes back when I disconnect it), and so does KDE. When I open my display settings, it tells me a new monitor was connected and asks me if I want to configure it.
Then I choose to configure and use the two monitors giving the following screens (right now I'm at college testing with monitors in there, thus the low resolution, but behavior seems to be exactly the same):
(EDIT: resized. In case of wishing to read full images, just take the "resized/" out of the URI)
However pretty the full screenshot looks like (... I just mean that even if it looks like the second monitor is working), the monitor remains blank.
Using arandr (xrandr's gui), it is exactly the same result. I might be doing something wrong (almost certainly I am ) (EDIT: decided it was a good idea to show what I did with xrandr).
In /home/<myuser>/.xinitrc my file looks like this:

I wondered the same. I initially only used KDE for it (that's how it worked in other distros, but I'm guessing Fedora and Kubuntu have way more stuff on top). I moved to xrandr later after searching for options and I did select "Ignore" when KDE asked me to configure and just went ahead with xrandr. The same still happens.

EDIT: Adding some extra information. I tried rebooting with the CRT cable connected. When the kernel initiated its loading, the messages only appeared on the external monitor. It was afterwards (it was pretty quick, but I will assume it was when radeon's modeset hit) that the external monitor went blank again and, in that situation, the laptop's monitor went blank (so none of the two monitors worked... and I was so hopeful!)
