Enhancement Recommendation:  Verizon Cellular Data Menu

It's a pain to type our login and password information on an iPad 2 every time to see account details... Allow us to cache or save these credentials so we can easy check data usage. Better yet, create a way when we connect via cellular, we can get live stats about our utilization.

Great suggestion!! Thank you for contacting us about the My Verizon application on your Pad 2. We are always looking to enhance our applications.  I will forward your suggestion to our leadership.

I am trying to set up my verizon cellular data account on my Ipad. When I go to "view account" in settings its already on AT&T, how do I change it to Verizon?

Is this the newest iPad Mini? If so, in order to activate it, you'll need to go into a Verizon Store and get a Verizon SIM.

  • "password too short" with verizon cellular data account

    Hi everyone,
When I try to set up a cellular data account on my ipad 2 with verizon, I continue to receive a "password too short" message. My password exceeds the minimum characters specified and has four numbers. Anyone else getting this infuriating response? Thanks
    Al

Think?  I'd call again and get another rep.  Why in the world a locked account unlock automatically?  Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of a lock?

  • Verizon Cellular Data...unable to connect

I got the IPad with retina display for Christmas.  Last night we called Verizon and activated the Cellular Data.  Well....when I got to work today I tried to connect (our wireless here stinks) and it would not connect.  When I went into the "view account" section it promptly told me "The SIM card inserted in this devise is already active on a subscription that cannot be managed on this device"  How can I get the cellular to work when I do not have WiFi?

Well, there is no way to do what you want, using your iPhone. To do what you want, using your phone, requires tethering your laptop to your phone. This requires setting up Personal Hotspot, which requires using your phone's cellular data plan.
    Never heard of this:
"My laptop couldn't connect to the wifi because it's not allowed, but my iPhone can connect to the wifi."
Seems like an idiotic policy, if true.

  • TS3367 Why won't facetime work using Verizon cellular data? It keeps telling me I don't have a wi-fi connection

Why won't my facetime work using the Verizon network? I don't have a separate Internet connection, so I bought the iPad 2 with the cellular data installed...every time I try to use facetime, it tells me that I need to connect to a wifi network & that there is no network connection. ?

The option to use Cellular for facetime is not available with the iPad 2. See below for a list of features.

  • My iPad mini can no longer connect to verizon cellular data network.

My ipad mini no longer communicates with the Verizon network,I can see the signal strength is good but no connection, yes I have paid the bill it shows I have plenty of data usage left. I called Verizon to see if there were network issues in my area, but there is not. They opened a trouble ticket for tech support to track,I have not heard back after 3 days. It has worked great for about a year now, just wondering if others have experinced this. I purchsed from a major retailer with a 2 year warranty extention so I have a year left for service/replacement,fortunately.

Not sure but you might have tried this but it wasn't specifically mentioned.
Turn off Wi-Fi. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. You should or might see No Service in the upper left corner of the iPad. Wait a little while to see if that changes. If it turns to the signal strength indicator then attempt to connect to the internet to see if your data works. If it does you can turn Wi-Fi back on.
You might consider having your iPad examined by a technician. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Solved problem with lack of cellular network menu but..

After restoring my Iphone 4 three times, I was finally given the option of installing a carrier from my phone operator. As advised on this page I disgarded it, and my Cellular data menu was visible. BUT everytime I connect my Iphone to my computer it asks me to update the carrier! Will I loose the menu again if I update, or do I have to disgard this update every time?

    Hi jonniebaker,
If you are having an issue with your cellular connection signal I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I deactivated cellular data services on my ipd by mistake. Is there anyway to reactivate it.

I deactivated Verizon cellular data services on my ipad by mistake. I still had one gigabyte of data services left. Is there any way to reactivate my service with Verizon. I called Verizon. They said no way. They said I would need to buy another SIM card.

I wanted to cancel the automatic renewal of prepaid celluar data. I wasn't planning on using it after I used up my remaining bytes. I canceled the renewal, but then went to the next step and tapped on delete my account without realizing what I was doing. I then got an email from Verizon saying my device had been deactivated and the remaining balance on my data plan would be lost and that I would need to visit a Verizon store to get a replacement SIM card. I called Verizon and explained that I made a mistake and could they reactivate my account. The customer service representative explained to me that once I deactivated my account ther was nothing they could do to restore it( don't remember exact words, but that was the gist of it). It was a mistake on my part. Live and learn.

  • 5C users Watch your cellular data usage!!

This needs to be brought up just a friendly heads-up in the 5c forum, as there are already long-running threads on this topic in the iPhone 5 forum.
I have owned a 5c for a week now, and have it activated along side my wifes 4s under our 2G shared data plan.  So far in that time 5c has used 3~4x the amount of cellular data, despite my wife using her 4s FAR more frequently (for apps) than I do on my 5c.
I have managed to throttle my data usage with now a better understanding of the following:
-Apps will use cellular data, even while connected to a wifi network.  So merging onto a wifi DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY PRIORITIZE it over the Verizon cellular data network.
-Closing out the app when finished does not stop it from using cellular data.  Many apps will still siphon cellular data, even though they are closed.... WITHOUT THE USER KNOWING IT.  Pay close attention to, and turn off cellular usage for those apps that don't need it.  Note you may have to manually re-activate cellular usage for the app when you use it outside wifi coverage.  This is a royal pain in the you know what.
-Deactivate notification center... or deactivate those parts of it you don't really need.  Personally I don't need any of it so I have it completely turned off.
-Turn off the "Background app Refresh" function.
    -Turn off "Location Services"
-In the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" section turn off the Push function under "Fetch new data".  I have mine set to manual.
-Turn off LTE function.  The LTE part of the network is not even available to me where I live.  I found my phone was RAMPANTLY gobbling up cell data 24/7 and all hours of the night.  That data siphon stopped immediately when I turned off LTE.  Yes you are in essence using a slower cell network, but for me that doesn't matter since I am under a wifi network 99% of the time.  If I ever do need a fast cellular network I will have to manually turn on LTE.
As a final note, this is a SIGNIFICANT difference between the 4s and 5/5c/5s... and should be taken as a warning to anyone wanting to upgrade from the 4s to any of the "5" models.  My wifes 4s (on the latest iOS) does not require any of the actions above. Even with REGULAR use of her DOZENS of apps, her monthly data usage on the 4s has never exceeded ~1G over the past 2 years.  She never even turns them off, they are always open and minimized on her screen-top.
So in summary, turning off LTE has made a significant difference in my data usage (shown in kb), as shown below.

I am not sure about that, and even then I don't know if I would 100% blindly trust that.  Verizon will send you txrt messages when you approach your data ceiling for each billing period.  I downloaded the Nutec data monitor app.  I use it as a "polygraph" of sort to manually monitor data at the source (phone).  It has alerts set up for 50, 80, 100% warnings.

  • Why do I have mysterious cellular data usage (Verizon) every 6 hours on all 3 of my iphone 5's?

I have recently uncovered mysterious cellular usage on three different iPhones. I am a Verizon customer and discovered this by examining the cellular data use logs. What I found are a long series of mysterious data usage logs. I have visited the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store 3 times now to log notes and discuss the issue. It is being escalated.
    The characterstics are as follows:
All my family phones have the appropriate IOS and hardware updates (verified by the GeniusBar at my local Apple Store).
This is occuring across three phones, which happen to all be iphone 5. Two are 5 and the other a new 5s. We do have one iphone 4 in the family but the issue (so far as I can tell), is not happening on it.
One iphone 5 has IOS 7, the other IOS 6. The new 5s has of course IOS 7.
Mysterious data use happens even while connected to wifi.
Each mysterious data use log entry is exactly 6 hours apart. For example: 2:18 AM, 8:18 AM, 2:18 PM, 8:18 PM, 2:18 AM ... etc. It cycles AM and PM, same times, for a day to many days until some condition causes it to change (evolve).
The times evolve. One day it could be cycling through at one time series, then it changes to another time sequence and continues until the next condition.
The data usage is anywhere from a few K to many MB. The largest I've seen is over 100 MB.
The logs clearly show these usages are not due to human interaction. It is a program.
If cellular connection is used frequently (by the owner), the pattern is hard to pick out. Luckily, my family member is very good about only using wifi whenever possible, so these mysterious use patterns are easy to pick out.
Verizon allows access to 90 days worth of data logs, so I downloaded and analyzed them. This has been happening for at least 90 days. I have found 298 instances of mysterious use out of 500 total connections to cellular. A total of 3.5 GB of mysterious cellular data has been recorded as used in that 90 days by this phone alone. Only .6 GB of the total cellular data use is legitimate, meaning by the person.
This issue is occuring across three different phones. Two are iPhone 5, and the third is a recently purchased iPhone 5s. The 5s I have not touched beyone the basic startup. I have left it alone on a desk for 3 days, and looking at the logs, the mysterious data use in the same pattern is occuring.
So ... I am speaking to both sides, Verizon and Apple to get answers. Verizon puts their wall up at data usage. It doesn't matter how it is being used, you simply need to pay for it. Yes, the evidence I have gathered is getting closer to someting on Verizon's end.
Before pressing in that direction, I am hoping someone reading this may recognize this issue as a possible iPhone 5 issue ... OR ... you, right now, go look at your data usage logs available through your carrier's web account, and see if you can pick out a pattern of mysterious use. Look especially at the early morning instances when you are most likely sleeping.
I am hoping this is a simple issue that has a quick resolution. I'm looking for the "ooohhh, I see that now ..." But I am starting to think this might be much bigger, but the fact is, most customers rarely or never look at their data usage details, much less discover mysterious use patterns.
The final interesting (maybe frightening part) thing about all this is that I discovered while talking to Verizon ... they do not divulge which direction the data is going. This goes for any use, mysterious or legitimate. Is cellular data coming to your phone, or leaving it? Is something pulling data from your phone? We know that it is possible to build malware apps, but the catch with my issue is that it is also happening on a brand new iphone 5s with nothing downloaded to it.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • My brother used his Verizon Wireless SIM to activate my factory unlocked iphone 5s.  Now, I can't access the cellular data network option to change APN settings for my new carrier.  Already tried configuration utility and factory resets.

So as the title says, after I got my iPhone 5s from apple, factory unlocked, my brother used his sim card in it for a moment to allow it to be registered and usable on WIFI until I made it to Japan.  Now that I have a data SIM card, I have to input specific APN settings, which are located in settings>cellular>cellular data network, however, cellular data network is not available as an option. I have reset the phone multiple times with and without backups and with and without the new sim in the phone.  I have also used the configuration utility to try to put the APN settings in the phone.  I contacted Apple and they didn't really have an answer as to what i should do.  My brother checked his Verizon account and my phone does not show up as one of his devices, so right now I'm stuck with and incredibly expensive iPod.  Does anyone have any idea what I can do to remedy this?  I am unable to contact Verizon via telephone myself as I have no phone service.  Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

You only have to clone your mac when using certain cable modem.  You don't clone your mac when using dsl.

  • I cannot find all my installed apps on the "use cellular data for" tab on the settings menu.

I have a new iphone 5s and on the first day I've received it, I updated to IOS 8.0.2.
Today, I've decided to turn my cellular data on and, in order to consume less data, I thought I would disable some of the apps. However, only a few were available/visible on the "use cellular data for" tab. However, when, with the cellular data turned on, I opened a missing app on the phone, it would start to appear on the list (where it wasn't previously). Also, when I go to the app on the settings menu, it would not have shown the option, "use cellular data" before I've opened the app and now it does. Do I need to turn on every single app before I can select my cellular data preferences? I know people with the same phone and their apps appear all, as expected.
I don't know if this is a problem of my own carrier but I don't think so, because the people I mentioned earlier have the same carrier.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Appel logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, did you try to switch off Cellular Data, restart the phone and switch it back on again?

  • I could no longer find hotspot menu for sharing my cellular data on IOS 8.1.3. Please help!

i have just upgraded to IOS 8.1.3 from IOS 7.1.2 , and I could no longer find my hotspot menu for sharing my cellular data with my other devices.
    what should I do?

    Hello rotimifelix,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
If Personal Hotspot doesn't seem to be enabled on your iPhone after updating to iOS 8, check for the option in both of these locations in Settings:
Turn Personal Hotspot off and on: Tap Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
If the menu option can't be found, you may want to contact your carrier to ensure your account is set up correctly:
Verify that your carrier supports Personal Hotspot for your device and that you have Personal Hotspot enabled on your cellular plan:
iPhone: View a list of carriers that support Personal Hotspot on the iPhone.
If the issue continues, try these troubleshooting steps next:
Reset your network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you still see the issue, restore the iPhone.
You can find the information and steps above, as well as more troubleshooting advice, in these support articles:

Verizon is using the Elipsis tablets to steal data from their customers.  The only way to stop data from registering as cellular data is to pull the SIM card.  This occurs with wifi enabled and cellular, dara disabled.  If,you take your tablet to a Verizonstore they will upgrade your data plan to cover the overage and credit the upgrade.  You will then have to remember to downgrade your plan or continue to pay for more data.  Verizon, how would you feel if I walked into one of your stores and started filling my pockets with merchandise?  If cought can I just give the product back and say "oops, sorry"

Today, my FCC complaint hit the same person working on the BBB complaint.  Jimmie has been very nice and seems willing to work with this problem.  We have been able to come to an agreement.  I paid the purchase price for the phone and he returned my upgrade and unlimited data plan.  This is what would have occurred if Verizon had given me correct information to begin with.  I am happy with this result.  He also brought quite a few instances concerning the handling of my transfer and upgrade that did not follow proper procedure.  I am also confident that I would not have resolved this without complaining to BBB and or FCC.  Verizon had no interest in solving the problem nor did they show any propensity to keeping a 20 year client.  Even though this last CSR was very polite and helpful, his sole job is to respond to formal Federal and State complaints.  He is required by law to address every complaint and report the reporting agency the agreed upon results - good or bad.  Again, I suggest - If you are not getting the proper customer service, complain to someone outside of Verizon.  Jimmie had not received any complaints registered with Verizon directly and I still have not had any contact with any other management representative that I was told would call.

  • Hi, I am bringing my verizon iPad air to Brazil later this month and would like to access cellular data. How do I do that? Thanks in advance.

Hi I am bringing my verizon iPad air to Brazil later this month and would like to access cellular data. How do I do that? I understand there is something about swapping or disabling sim cards, but I am a little unclear and verizon was no help. Thanks for your help in advance.

You must have Verizon unlock the device from their service. In Brazil you will have to find a compatible provider and use their SIM in place of Verizon's SIM
