Enhancement Request: iOS Ability to "force" passcode lock

Passcode lock is a great feature but with limitations.
"Require Passcode" has the below options:
Immediately
After 1 minute
After 5 minutes
After 15 minutes
As a user who locks the screen frequently, I do not want to enter in my complex passcode every time I remove my iPhone from my pocket.  With that in mind, I have set the "Require Passcode" to "After 15 minutes".
I would however, for security reasons, like the ability to lock the iPhone and force the "Immediately" option temporarily instead of waiting for the 15 minute interval.
There is currently (to my knowledge) no way to do this and I believe it would be a great feature enhancment to improve the useability of the iPhone.
Cheers,
Jason

It wouldn't be difficult at all actually.  It's just software.
The API that is called to initiate the passcode requirement after the timer expires could alternatively be called by some other process.
Press and hold the power button for x amount of time.
or
Press and hold the power button and provide an additional "slide to secure lock" option under the current "slide to power off".
The options are endless

  • Enhancement Request: iOS MultiUser Accounts

We have a single iPad in the house, but my wife and children use it as well. It would be a great feature to have separate user accounts on iOS for the iPad so that you can separate things like Mail, Calendars, Safari Bookmarks, Application Settings, etc. by user - just like OSX

I share my personal iPod/iPad with my kid,  Also share my AppStore account to buy apps for my kid. Multiuser iOS will be a good solution, switch between work, home, parrent profile. Think about multi signature between personal email and work email. Personal, work, kid apps.
Multi user or multi profile iOS is priority.
What is your email signature if you replay email from your iOS device for work email, personal email, family email?
" send from my (iOS device)" that's so shame.
Did you share your "sing for kid apps" on the big screen when you doing presentation?
I want a multi user/profile. If not maybe I have to buy another iOS device and bring them every where I go hahahaha....

  • Passcode Lock prevents Apple Configurator from working

We have over 2,000 Supervised iPads in our district. We would like the students to Passcode Lock their iPads to deter other students from messing with the iPads.
Once the Passcode Lock is set, Apple Configurator no longer works :-(
    Cannot Update/Install Apps
    Cannot Remove/Install Profiles
    Cannot Restore from Backup
    etc
Must type in the Passcode and Supervise while logged in (which prevents us from closing the lid, plugging in the iPad into the Bretford carts). Once the lid is closed, the passcode lock is activated again. This is a ROYAL PAIN!
Also, if the teacher is not aware of what the student Passcode is, there is no way of updating the iPad. Multiply this by 2,000 and you can see how much of a pain this is.
Apple Configurator should be able to work with Supervised iOS devices that are passcode locked. It just makes sense. IF the iOS device is Supervised by Apple Configurator, the Passcode Lock should NOT prevent further management by Apple Configurator.
    Apple, PLEASE FIX IT

  • Can I prohibit students from setting a Passcode Lock in Apple Configurator with iOS 7?

I manage 120 iPads at a high school and am running into an issue with the iOS 7 update.  Students now have the ability to go into settings and set a Passcode Lock which will be a hassle once they realize this.  Does anyone know if Configurator has the ability to prohibit students from having the ability to set this?  They also have the ability to set restrictions codes but I'm assuming I'll have to go into every iPad and set this myself to cut that off before it becomes a problem.  I just can't find a way to do this for the screen lock code.

Sorry, but there still seems to be no way to block someone from setting a screenlock passcode.
    Regards.

  • Touch screen stopped working. Is there anyway to force a full backup of the iPhone without typing in my passcode lock or is there anyway to force it to connect to a WiFi network so the phone can backup to iCloud??

Hello all, I could use some help with my iPhone 4, I hope this is the best place to ask!
    The Problem:
I want to do a full backup of my iphone to either itunes or to icloud. Unfortunately the iphone got wet and isn’t working properly. The phone turns on and still works, but the touch screen no longer works. I have a passcode lock on the phone so iTunes will not allow me to backup it up until I type in the passcode (which I cannot physically do). WiFi had been turned off before it got wet so it won’t connect to any known WiFi networks either to backup automatically to iCloud.
    What happened:
I had been travelling for 6 months and went tubing on a river with my iphone in a dry bag. Unfortunately the dry bag failed and filled with water ruining my iphone.
    What I’d like to do:
It’s an old phone and I was planning on buying a new iPhone anyway. I would love to do a full backup to either iCloud or to my computer so when I get a new iPhone I don’t lose anything. I’ve already connected it to my PC and downloaded all the photos and videos off the phone so at least I haven’t lost that, but I would like to be able to recover all the text messages, WhatsApp messages and notes I had created during my 6 months of travel.
The last time it was backed up to my pc or to icloud was in April, so there are 6 months worth of very meaningful data I would love to keep to remind me of my travels!
Is there anyway to force a full backup of the iPhone without typing in my passcode lock or is there anyway to force it to connect to a WiFi network so the phone can backup to iCloud??
iTunes recognizes the phone just now and I tried upgrading the phone to iOS7 in the hopes that it would first backup and then upgrade. Unfortunately all that happened is the phone upgraded to iOS7, but it didn’t backup to iTunes. Now the phone is stuck at the iOS7 welcome screen and I can’t do anything else with it.
Any ideas or tips would be welcome!
NOTE: This is NOT a jailbroken iPhone.

If there is no other way around this, is there anyway to completely wipe the phone then??
The Apple store agreed to give me a new iPhone 4 as a warranty replacement for $150 (I travel a lot and I have a factory unlocked phone, so this is still worth it for me).  But before I trade it in, I would like to make sure all my data is backed up on the device first.
When I try and restore the phone now on iTunes, it says I have to turn off Find My iPhone on the phone first before I can restore it.  Now since I can't use the screen I can't really do that.
So how do I completely wipe the iPhone???
    Thanks!

  • I turned on the passcode lock to come on in 1 hour.  It doesn't seem to be working.  I thought that this would make the Ipad 2 IOS 7 require me to type in a code after 1 hour.  Is my thinking not right on this?

As stated I turned on my passcode lock to come on after 1 hour of operation.  It doesn't work like I thought it would.  My thoughts were that it would go to the lock screen and then require a code.  Is my thinking not right on this?  What am i doing wrong?

The passcode will be requested after the device has been in sleep mode for one hour.  It does not turn off the device, nor is it a usage timer.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen w/iOS 7.0.2 - Delayed 'Passcode' Lock Entry Issue

    Hi,
This evening I've updated my iPod Touch 5th Gen from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0.2 via the 'Over the Air' method, which went well initialy.
Following using the device, upgrading all of the apps and performing a couple of backups to iCloud, I have noticed that there is an issue with entering of the 'Passcode Lock' code to unlock the device.  There is a 25 to 30 second delay in me pressing a digit key on the 'Unlock' screen and the screen registering that I've entered a key.  Has anyone else experienced this?
I assume that this is an issue brought about due to the security fix that has been implemented within the iOS 7.0.2 update.  I am about to submit a Bug Report to Apple regarding this.
At present, I have upgrading both of my iPhone 4S and the iPad 3rd Gen devices to iOS 7.0 and they experience no issues at all - working fine.  I guess I will hold off upgrading these two devices at the moment.

I've been playing with the iPod, namely attempting to type text - all applications are affected.  I hadn't been typing text when I was playing with it.  I think the keyboard libraries have been corrupted.
I have updated tge Bug Report and will plan to wipe and restore device using iTunes 11.1.  If this is successfull, will use the same approach for the other devices.

  • Ios 8.02 passcode lock

In past editions of the ios, there were different time intervals that could be set before having to reenter the passcode.  With the fingerprint scanner, it's not terribly difficult to bypass the passcode, however this must be done every time the phone is woke up.  Looking under Settings/TouchID & Passcode/Require Passcode I see the only option is "immediately".  Can't uncheck it and there are no additional time intervals available.  Basically, the only options are to disable the passcode lock or to have it require a code every time I access the phone.  Anybody else having this problem?

That is how it is designed and that is how it was in iOS 7 with an iPhone 5s with Touch ID enabled.
I guess I am used to it and it doesn't bother me; I'm in the habit of waking the phone by pressing the Home button and then releasing it while leaving my finger on the button and that isn't an issue for me and doesn't seem to me like it takes any longer than any other way of waking the phone. There have been many previous discussions (ever since the 5s was released) by others that view it as a problem however. You can provide feedback directly to Apple at: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • How to restore the greek keyboard passcode lock in IOS 7.0.2

Anyone know how to restore the keyboard passcode lock back to the greek style in IOS 7.0.2? I heard it's an option in the new firmware update but can't figure out how to go back to it. Any ideas?

Yes, but you might not want to do this at the present time as it's likely your phone will not recognise the new password once set. See other posts.

  • How to set Passcode lock time in iOS 7.02?

In upgrading my Sprint, iPhone 5s from iOS 7.0 to 7.0.2, when go to Settings/General/Passcode-Fingerprint/Require Passcode, it is now set on "Immediately", when, in 7.0, I had it set for 15 minutes.
When I touch the word "Immediately", the screen shows the word "Immediately", followed by a checkmark. Below the word "Immediately", is a text line stating "Shorter times are more secure."  However, when I touch the word "Immediately", the drop down menu that previously appeared under Version 7.0, which provided a choice of Passcode lock times, no longer appears, so I cannot change the time settings for the Passcode lock function.
Is the choice of time settings willfully no longer available, or is this a bug?  If a bug, is there a workaround?
    Thank you!!

I found an answer, as I had the same issue.  And of course, like many things Apple, it's fairly simple.
The issue arises when you have Touch ID enabled.  Once you disable Touch ID, you will then have choices of longer periods before a passcode is required.  Of course then you don't have Touch ID, but mine rarely works anyway.  My skin is too dry and it fails constantly.
There is a good explanation here: http://danstillman.com/2013/09/30/touch-id-and-require-passcode-immediately

  • Problem removing 4 digit passcode lock (IOS 4.2.1)

When i try to turnoff my passcode lock, the phone get stuck at the second pass confirmation page.. Help.

Does it normally took this long to reset?
No, but let it sit like that for a few more minutes. If no change, force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn off your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone to turn off. If you cannot turn off your phone using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. After restoring from backup, you must sync to restore your iTunes content.

  • GOOD FEATURE ENHANCEMENT REQUEST: Locking Projects

I have an excellent Feature Enhancement request for iLife '08 & wanted to post it somewhere in hopes it gets to the hands of the right people that can make things happen so I'm not wasting 5 minutes posting.
I (like anyone) like saving my iLife Printed Books, Calendars, etc. on my MacBook so I may always order more copies if needed. However, I fear somewhere somehow someone will be playing on my Mac & will accidentally move stuff around or even delete text / words / layouts / effects from an iLife printed project of mine which I ordered & may want to reorder years down the road.
*I'd like an advanced options area with options typically displayed in any kind of publishing software. Options in mind include "Group Objects", Ungroup Objects, Lock, Unlock, etc.*
Does anyone else here agree with me??

To add to Larry's suggestion....passwords and protected accounts are always good:
    1. Put your iPhoto Library(ies) on an external drive and eject or disconnect the drive when you are not using the computer. Then, no one else can get into your projects. I have ten iPhoto Libraries on my external drive.
    2. Make an iPhoto Library just for your projects and put that one on an external drive. That way, your photos are available to whoever wants to view them, but the projects library can be left alone.
    3. Have you considered not letting others access your computer without your permission? If they are not responsible enough, setting up different user accounts would be the way to go. You can limit their access to your files.
If you want to suggest that Apple do something more global, feel free to make your suggestion here, as Larry recommended:

  • Can't turn off iPad passcode lock in iOS 7

I searched these forums looking for the answer to this question. Some said that there is an option called turn passcode off under general, passcode lock. I don't have that in my menu. I have two options, Autolock and passcode lock. I have set autolock to never. When I go to passcode lock, and turn it off it simply asks for a new pass code. There is no option anywhere to turn it off. Is this no longer possible?

You should go into settings, general,, passcode lock. Enter your current passcode then you'll see the option to turn it off.

  • Cannot turn off passcode lock on ipad ios 7.0.3

I am unable to turn off passcode lock on an iPad running IOS7.0.3.  When I get to the screen in Settings > General > Passcode Lock, "Turn Passcode Off" is greyed out and cannot be used.  Hence I am stuck with having to enter a passcode even though I don't want to any longer.  The problem is not that I do not know the passcode, simply that I can't turn off the passcode lock.  Any thoughts?

is this your iPad or one administered by someone else...for example if I use an iPad from work our IT policy dictates that I must use a passcode and I am not allowed to turn it off.
If it's yours, just a shot in the dark, do you have restrictions enabled? If so, go in and disable them then see if that will allow you to turn off the passcode lock.

  • This is going to sound silly but I want to disable the ability to add a passcode lock?

there is nothing in restrictions that I can see that will let me do this.
    thank you in advance

You can do this. Go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock
