Enhancing DVD Video for Big Projection in Cinema Hall

I have a Wedding DVD project of 50 Mts duration. Now my client want it to be Projected in Cinema Hall for viewing of whole family. To-day I had trial run. Screen is too BIG screen is 37' wide, quality appeared to be poor.  Is there any way to enhance the VIDEO Quality so that Projected Image is acceptable.. I have very short time. Any help, guidance will be highly appreciated

I have Magic Bullet Instant HD and it works BUT the results are varyable depending upon the source material and output format, Joe is correct about the cropping but there are options you can choose for the output
I have achieved better upscaling using TMPG
Virtualdub/avisynth does an even better job but is far harder to master.
That said at the club I go to we regularly project DVD via our upscaling Bluray player with great results, it may be worth checking out some different players at your local Mall as the output quality does vary
As for future, how about a media player such as a Western Digital, HDMI/component outputs, or for something cheap but great a Raspberry PI mini PC, there is a media player operating system available and you have that on an SD card and the video on a memory stick, mine works great on video encoded up to 30mbps so a 20mbps HD file plays great

  • Create change lists for HDCAM project without Cinema Tools?

    Hi
We have an HD project, shot on video, and are getting to final stages of mixing. Is there way to set a version, and then make changes and generate a change list? Needless to say, we haven't been using Cinema Tools (and the Export Change List process asks us to select a CT database). Is this only possible for film projects?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Actually, I figured it out.
    1) Open Cinema Tools and create a new, blank database. Remember its name and where you saved it.
    2) Open your original sequence in FCP. Go to FIle - Export - Cinema Tools Film Lists. If it's a video project, you can ignore the film-specific fields (footage length, key numbers and the like), but make sure that "Save a Cinema Tools program file" is ticked. In the columns on the right, I have "Time", "Source Time" and "Clip name" added. When prompted, locate your database file.
    3) Export the file.
    4) Now, open the changed sequence in FCP. Go to File - Export - Cinema Tools Change List. Locate the Cinema Tools program file you saved earlier.
You can select "Combine deletions" if you don't want to see separate edits across a multi-clip deletion. (ie, trim tail, delete clip, delete clip, trim head).
The first few pages will probably be most useful for video projects, since they use timecodes; the other sections of the report seem to be based on key codes.

  • Webdvd or enhanced dvd option for embedding webpages??

    Hi all,
Just wondering if there's any way in iDVD to make it into a kinda enhanced dvd, so that I can put a dvd and a website on the same disc? Im doing a showreel thats done in iDVD and I want to put a website done on iWeb on the same disc too. Is this possible? If not, does anyone know any software that would allow me to?
    Many thanks!
    JD

.....If not, does anyone know any software that would allow me to?
Yes. You can do this with apple's pro apps / DVDSP like this:
But not in iDvd unfortunately. (I'm not 100% certain about the latest version of Roxio Toast though since I've never used it for this specific purpose).

  • Referenced database organization for big projects

i am in desperate need of some software to organize my various projects. i am including just one kind of example below but there are other needs that are related. perhaps some folks can throw out ideas along with how /they/ use the software? i would really, really like to keep it simple and stay away from obsessive tagging with multiple dropdown lists etc.
    THANKS
    the lowdown:
today i am realizing i have a set of folders with PDF portfolios and .doc or pdf cover letters along with email "cover letters" that i printed to pdf (sigh) all in a set of folders that are "tagged" by type of work. /and/ i also have an old numbers spreadsheet that i worked up that has email addresses and names and contact information - along with a column for NOTES for some of these submissions.
so for this set of information i really need a way to see the contact information in a numbers like spreadsheet, be able to see the comments, be able to click on an active email link AND have immediate and visual access to the pdf COVER LETTER and the pdf PORTFOLIO - along with access the the .doc files and any image based files that came along with the submission. right now this is half here and half there.
i /have/ been printing out this information and keeping it in binders (a la Mitt i guess) but this is totally unworkable moving forward and i need the information to be moderately portable...
as another example i am /also/ in desperate need of some software to organize academic papers (almost all pdf's but not exclusively) in a way that will let me add and export the document so that it retains metadata.
similarly i need to organize PROJECTS which can contain all manner of data and these just sort of float around in various folder organization configurations when i /manually/ move, sort and organize data. it would be super to have all this in one place with a set of notes that shows a PLAN for tackling this particular project so that it shows some level of (visual or other) organization with the other files.
    does such a beast exist?

ours ( in the same vm), with their's jar/ear files
accessing our jar/ear files?Yes - and you will also need to furnish them with the EJB client .jar file (Home and Remote interfaces and your custom data objects and/or exceptions, if any) and the APIs to those classes.

  • Want to convert youtube video for school project

I have downloaded a file from you tube. I think it is in the mp4 format. Now I would like to view and possibly insert it into a imovie project for school. Do I need to convert it first? If so, where do I get a converter?

    Hi -
You can try MPEG Streamclip as the convertor.
    It is available free from;
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
The format and pixel dimensions of the material you downloaded will influence what you choose to convert to with MPEG Streamclip.

  • Using DVD Video for Events?

Before I got a mac, I had a set top DVD burner, that had a firewire input. So, I burned most of my videos from my camera, directly to DVD. Now I want to take those DVDs, and import them into iMovie. I know there are lots of tools out there. But, when I search, it's all about circumventing the copy protection.
What is the easiest way to get DVD's into iMovie, when there is no copy protection involved? Can I just drag the video over? (Obviously it is not that easy, or I would have already done it

I don't know about NTSC but there is a nice PAL solution for SD 16:9 for ordinary DVDs. The 16:9 image becomes 720x576 pixels. So the pixels are each quite wide, and the horizontal resolution is less than the vertical resolution, but at least no pixels are wasted as with letterbox.
A semi-solution is to make a HD-DVD. That format has been abandoned but Apple software pretends otherwise. Apple Compressor does compressions at around 20 Megabits/second data rate specifically for HD-DVD, and Apple DVD Studio Pro makes HD-DVDs. For short projects, less than around 30 minutes, the HD-DVD can be made on a normal DVD. (I did this for a 40 minute project by cutting the bitrate somewhat.) The quality is almost equal to Blu-Ray, but who can play it? People with well equipped Apples can.

  • Director projects on DVD ROM and DVD video

    Hi all,
I need your attention and your aid to solve a doubt and a
job. I've to create a DVD Video that plays on dvd home players and
on macs and windows computers, with dvd readers. Moreover I need
that the same DVD contains a directors project (the same project
for mac and win system) that start automatically, when the dvd is
inserted in a dvd reader of a computer.
    Is it possible?
Does director make it (DVD video + DVD rom with a directors
    project?
Director vs DVD Studio Pro in order to obtain a master DVD
hybrid (DVD video + DVD rom with a directors project)?
    Thanks for your attention,

Wahey!!! That's me!!! Crikey I don't remember posting to that
    forum!?!
Anyway, back to your problem - as already noted there really
    isn't an
elegant way of solving it! You quite literally have to whack
    everything into
one folder - when it comes to hybrid DVD-Videos there's no
    'nice partitions'
as we have with hybrid CD-ROM I'm afraid!
The route I took was to develop the DVD-Video and add the
    Director Windows
projector and its gubbings via the ROM content folder [used
    Encore - but
    DVDSP isn't too far apart].
Also within this DVD-ROM folder lay a Mac disc image [DMG] of
    our Director
Mac projector with it's associated Xtras, etc. - with enough
    time on my
hands I could easily have added asset sharing but time was
    tight to say the
least and I knew I had lots and lots of space on the DVD so
    basically
packaged all the assets together with the projector within
    the
aforementioned Mac disc image. I also added a PDF + text
    document at the DVD
root level explaining to Mac users that they would have to
    mount the
included Mac disc image to gain access to the data side of
    the disc.
As it's been pointed out already it isn't pretty and it isn't
    elegant,
but... it works!! I was also advised by our replicator's that
    this is the
"safest" way to go. Yes you could try the Mac partitions
    route but there
really is NO guarantee that all standalone DVD players are
    capable of
reading the final disc - I wasted numerous coasters with such
    ideas and it
was very, VERY hit and miss!
If you've a wide DVD-Video collection take a look around at
    some of the
titles that hold ROM content as well and you'll find that the
    big studios
also produce their DVD's in the same fashion, for example
    [off the top of my
head] the Matrix trilogy are produced in this way.
    Good luck...

  • Compressing Video for DVD Burn Makes Text Look jagged

    Hello,
I'm currently at the final steps of a lengthy video production project and am struggling to make the text elements of my finished video display correctly after compression prior to burning it to DVD.
I create and produce music for a living and don't have nearly as much experience with video editing. I'm a bit new to all of this and am using FCE 4.0.1 to create my video & Compressor and DVD Studio Pro 2 to compress and author video for DVD.
    *My main issue is this:*
I'm using an imported still image as the title card for my film. It's a mixture of large plain Helvetica Neu font text with some additional stylized lettering created in Photoshop (which is why I'm not using FCE's built-in text generators for the title card). The typography isn't very wild and crazy, it's basically big bold letters and a few gentle curves. I exported the image (1200x600) from Photoshop as a .png and imported it into FCE.
When I export my finished video file (.png title card and all) out of FCE, I export it as a raw uncompressed Quicktime file:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
(It displays in quicktime at 1920x1080 though.)
After initially exporting from FCE, the title card image and all the other text in my movie created from FCE's built-in text generators look fine. It's only after I compress the finished movie in DVD Studio Pro or Compressor that I get jagged looking edges on the curves of my letters, primarily the title card image (the text generated by FCE's generators holds up okay).
In compressor I'm using the "MPEG-2 6.2 Mbps 2-pass settings for DVD" preset and in DVD Studio Pro. Using '2 pass VBR', 'Best' motion tracking, 'best' and 'highest quality' on all the compression settings I can find. I'm encoding at a total rate of 6.5Mb/sec max and 6Mb/sec average. These are standards for compressing to DVD and since I'm preparing a master for reproduction, I've been told I shouldn't increase the data rate over this or I'll run into player compatibility issues down the line.
Any ideas on how I can make this text image last through the compression process and still look clean and crisp without having to increase the data rate of compression? I'm going to play with different file formats for now, but it that doesn't work I don't know where to go from there.
Thank you for any help insights you can provide.

I started with a variety of HD raw footage (most of it gathered on Canon 5D Mkii SLR Digital camera in the form of: H.624 1920x1080) but converted all my raw footage prior to editing into:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
I edited everything in Final Cut Express 4.0.1 using the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60 at 29.97 fps sequence preset.
When I finished editing all my video I exported it as a raw uncompressed quicktime file which is also:
    Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
    29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
But when played in quicktime this finished video displays at 1920x1080, which I'm happy with. (I'm assuming this is the proper behavior of Apple Intermediate Codec? It seemed to take 1920x1080 footage, converted it to 1440x1080, and then spit it back out as 1920x1080 after the whole editing process.)
But seeing as how my issue is with an image file I'm creating in Photoshop and importing into my video sequence, I don't quite understand how the rest of my footage would really effect it. I've made sure to create the image using the same dimensions and pixel aspect ratio as my sequence frames by using one of the standard Photoshop screen templates (HD widescreen 1440x1080). I save my title card image as a non-interlaced .png file and import it into FCE.
When I place the imported image on the timeline, FCE doesn't resize it because it matches the frame dimensions of the sequence. When I view the image at 100% in FCE's viewer all of the image's lines, curves, and shapes display properly as they appear in my original photoshop file.
But for some reason FCE treats this imported .png image file as a 'rendered proxy.' So while it looks fine in FCE prior to rendering and exporting, when I export the video sequence containing this newly imported title card image, the resulting uncompressed quicktime file contains jagged horizontal lines across some of the characters in the title card image. It almost looks as if there's some interlacing issue going on.
However after much experimentation and trial and error I landed on a custom compression setting in Compressor that seemed to take care of this issue. I did as you recommended and selected a high quality 7.5 Mbps encoding preset (7.5 Mbps max/6.4 Mbps average), but noticed a 2 pass VBR rendered better results. What really seemed to do the trick was adding a deinterlace filter to the compression preset, and that miraculously seemed to eliminate the jagged lines in my title card image, restoring it to its original appearance (at least during my initial inspection in Compressor's preview mode).
After letting Compressor crank away, I looked at the finished compressed video in quicktime and the jagged interlaced-looking lines in my title card image have returned. Compressor's preview was somehow misguided.
Now my plan is to burn this compressed video to a DVD and view it on a TV to see if maybe these jagged lines in the final compressed version are only being caused by viewing on my computer's monitor. I'm hoping this is the case, otherwise I'm at a loss of what to do next.
If you need any more details please let me know. Otherwise I hope this is enough to give you a better idea of what issues I'm dealing with.
    Thanks again for your insights.

  • Is there a way to "center" video for DVD distribution?

This may be a long story so hear me out...
For the past year or so, after every great sports win by my alma mater Michigan State University I make a highlight video for web distribution. My workflow for doing so goes like this:
    1. Record straight to DVD from Tivo or live TV using Panasonic ES10 recorder
    2. Extract clips using Cinematize (uncompressed full quality setting, automatic adjustment 640x480)
    3. Import clips into Final Cut Pro and edit
    4. Export full quality uncompressed Quicktime
    5. Export H.264 for web viewing
Well this work has found the attention of someone in the East Lansing (where MSU is) city council. They would like me to throw together a short little video to be played at bars in East Lansing after the MSU mens basketball tournament games.
I have done a few tests simply taking the uncompressed Final Cut exports and making a DVD in iDVD out of them. The results, while OK, aren't the best. I'm thinking there isn't much I can do there because I'm not working with the best source material (going through a number of compressions - Tivo, DVD recorder, iDVD, etc).
But one thing I did notice though is my fancy iDVD created menu looked pretty slick with the video scaled down. The video was crisp and clear.
Is there a way to scale my video down so that it doesn't play full screen? Almost doing a 4-sided letterbox. I'm envisioning the video scaled down, centered on the TV.

Yes, I think I understand what you want to do...
    You can scale the video down or up to pretty much any size you would want to use;
    When your video is in the timeline, double click it, and it will open in one of the video preview windows (I belive its called the "viewer" window), for me on my dual screen, its the one on the left;
A few tabs will appear at the top of the the Viewer window, Video, Filters and Motion; Click on the motion Tab...
    When there the video will disappear a time line where keyframes live will appear, since you have not used key frames in this clip for motion, there will not be any there;
    You will see to the left of this a few pull downs, Basic Motion, Crop, Distort, Opacity, Drop Shadow and Time Remap;
    When you have the basic Motion twisty selected, you will see, Scale, Rotation, Center and Anchor Point;
The one your interested in for what I belive you wan to do is Scale. You can click in the box that defaults to 100 (meaning 100 percent) and change this to anything you want.
    By changing it this once it will make the entire clip play at that new scale. You can get creative and keyframe it over time using the little diamond shape button with the right and left arrow on each side. You can add a key frame at any point int he time line; and it will scale (in this case) to each setting you have set a key for. It interpolates the scale at each point in the time line when you set different scales etc... you can fiddle with this and get some good ideas for other projects if you want;
For what I belive you asked for, no key frame is required as you want it to start and finish att he same reduced scale.
    I trust this helps you out, and hopefully I read your question correctly;
p.s. if you leave the Center at 0, and 0 it will be centred, but its important to note you can use that to chance the position of the video in the video frame, again not needed for your request - but handy to know....

  • What is the best way to record a video(not big) for free on a mac w/isight?

What is the best way to record a video(not big) for free on a mac w/isight? I need to just make a short (less than 5 minute, no special effects) video, but I can't figure out any programs that will make this possible for me.
    Thanks.

    Hi Carolyn,
you can use iMovie to record a video for free on a Mac with iSight.
    1. Open iMovie HD
    2. Choose “Create a new project”
    3. Name the project for example “iSight Movie” (first field). In the second field, let the default location “Sequences”, in the third one, video format, choose “iSight”. Push “Create”
    4. iMovie window opens, next to the scissors, choose the camera (Camera mode), then iSight. Now you appear on the screen, right?
    5. Press “Record with iSight” in the main picture window.
    6. Press the same button to stop. Your new clip appears now in the clip panel at the right.
    7. You are done!

  • *** HD-DVD template for regular widescreen DVD project?

I have a sample of HDV projects that I have converted to .m2v in DVDSP in order to show on DVD. For now, I have to use a DVDSP template as the background menu. I'm not happy with how the menu looks on my widescreen LCD tv so I'm wondering if it's possible to use one of the HD-DVD menu backgrounds even though the video content of m project is .m2v. Will this make the menu screen look better or will the DVD have problems loading in a regular DVD player?
    Thanks in advance!

The HD content is a different physical size and I would think that if DVDSP lets you import it as an asset, then it will certainly re-scale it for you to be a legal SD size.
You might be better doing this yourself and controlling the re-scaling more precisely... otherwise things could get ugly!
