Enhancing the mic for the video camera

Does anyone know of any micas that you can attach that capture better sound? Also, what do you think of the built-in mic for video?

First, buy the $20 KM-IPHONE-2TRS iPhone 4 Y adapter to plug in an external Mic and Headphone. http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-2trs.htm
Second, I would use Dual System Audio. Record Scratch audio via iPhone 4 internal mic & record Production audio via a Zoom H2 or Zoom H4n portable audio recorder.
You would sync up the Scratch and Production audio channels via PluralEyes http://www.singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html The mono analaog audio recorded on the iPhone 4 internal Mic / external Mic input cuts off below 200 Hz and has other fidelity issues.
Third, I would invest in a battery powered Rode NTG-2 Mic Kit with the excellent Pearston LMT00 Shockmount (to reduce handling noise) versus the lower end Rode VideoMic with flimsy Shockmount. Fourth, You should also invest in a good deadcat fuzzy to reduce wind noise and a boom pole when shooting outside.
Personally, I use a Zoom H2 with a $25 ATR-3350 Lav Mic and a $50 ECZ-990 Zoom Mic feeding into a Y cable on the H2 for 2 channel audio and sync in PluralEyes with the scratch audio off my iPhone 4. The 2 battery powered Mics mentioned above are real “portable” also.

On the hunt for a video camera

I have summer school starting on the 19th of May and I received some of the packets early. One of them is a video portfolio packet. I want to be 100% ready before school starts. I do not know much about electronics... The video portfolio packet said that I must film what I do in a veterinary clinic. It also said that the video must be on a DVD, or a portable thumb drive, or other approved video storage device and assignments MUST be in Quick Time, MOV, WMV, MPEG, or AVI format. I do not have any idea what they're talking about. I only ever used iMovie and the videos are in m4v format. I do not have a video camera and I plan to shop for one. I have an old 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop with iMovie, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. It's 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and have a memory of 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 5DRAM. Graphics are NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB. Storage of 160 GB. Disc formats that can be written: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-R DL, and DVD+R DL. I suspect that I would need plenty of memory because there will be 20 assignments in one video portfolio AND I will have to do two video portfolios this summer. I didn't receive the other video portfolio packet yet. I suspect that I must make a video portfolio per DVD. Do anyone have a slightest idea of what I would need for a video camera? What kind of DVD do I need to burn videos on? How much memory should I look for in a camera? What do I need to look for? Can I convert m4v videos into these approved formats? I'm looking for an inexpensive but decent quality video camera that films well and can be recognized on my MacBook Pro laptop. I want to be able to edit videos and burn DVDs on my laptop as well. In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

The last Apple-published resolution data I saw said that iSight's resolution is 640x480 VGA. I do not know of any way to change iSight's resolution, but that level is plenty of quality for my webcam needs.
The software you use to operate your iSight controls it, so specific answers will depend on what software you are using when you need more resolution. Check Help in that application to see if it can change iSight's resolution.
Some software, such as Apple's QuickTime 7 Pro allow you to change iSight's video quality and compression level with its QuickTime Player > Preferences > Recording > Quality: setting. You can add iGlasses software to manually override some iSight settings that are otherwise controlled automatically by the software using iSight. However, I do not think either of these options really changes iSight's resolution.
Check whether your iSight's lens cover has fingerprints or smudges on it. Then check iSight's image quality of your face in full sunlight about two feet from the lens. Best image quality requires more light than what most people would consider normal room lighting.
If you are still having problems, consider the applicable suggestions from How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If you need better resolution than iSight can deliver for some special imaging requirement such as close-up or high-accuracy images, you may need to consider using a different camera that better meets your special needs.

I'd stay away from Sony unless you are buying pro stuff, but even then...
Sony software is only compatible with windows & their mac support is pretty much non-existant.
plus, hard drive camcorders are a terrible idea! if you start having problems, poof, there goes the hours of footage. Even the Sony cams that use flash cards are a bad choice - you usually have to buy their magic gate cards.
I'd stick with Panasonic or Canon cameras that are SDHC+Internal or just SDHC. AT least this way the cards can be replaced, you can expand the memory, & it's SD - much cheaper to buy than the magic gate cards.

Now, to import your footage, you will need an app like Voltaic as importing AVCHD with Apple's video apps is only supported on Intel machines. You can still edit with iMovie or Final Cut - the versions that support HD, but the initial import from the camera will have to be done with the 3rd party utility.

Im trying to put songs i just purchased into my video on windows movie maker and the error comes up that the codec for the song is missing what do i do?

It's for my grandfathers funeral video tomarro and i can't get the songs i just purchased on itunes to work. They play but wont work when i drag them to the movie maker program. it says that the codec for the song isn't installed. codec?

The songs you purchased are in AAC format, which Windows Movie Maker cannot handle. You can use iTunes to make MP3 versions by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 and the MP3s will work fine.
Note that when iTunes does a conversion it creates a new file and leaves the original in place. Make sure you are grabbing the new MP3 for your movie and not the original AAC.

I am unable to synch photo albums from iPad 3 to iTunes on my Windows 7 pc.
In addition to Camera roll and iPod cache default albums, I have 6 other albums made from pix derived from the camera roll. Eg - Family pix in a folder, Office pix in another, Plant pixs in another, House architecture pix in another.......all also exist in the camera roll.
I have trawled the net for the last 8 hrs in vain!
I have ios5 on Ipad 3 and the latest Itunes on Windows PC.
As a precaution, I have used the windows "add pictures from...." to keep a copy in a separate folder in the windows desktop, but again it has all the pics mixed up together and not sorted as per the various albums in the ipad!
How to replicate the albums in the windows PC???

Sync the photos back to the iPad using iTunes. You have to place the photos into a folder from which you sync photos. All photos that you want to sync to the device must be included in the main photos folder and selected to sync each time that you sync.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Click on the Sync Photos From heading in order to select it.
Select the photos folder that you want to sync from.
Select all of the albums or photos within the folder that you want to sync.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

Does the new IOS 8 and instagram only allow pictures taken with the phone? as I can still choose from those, just not the ones I upload/save.
I don't know about instagram, but apps, that not yet have been upgraded to iOS8 can only access the photos that appear in the "Recently Added" album, because there is no longer a Camera Roll.
As a work-around, try to create an album of the photos you want to share to instagram. For other apps this helped to make photos accesible.

The icons for the Personas Plus and Video Download Helper extensions are not displaying on a fresh install of Firefox 3.6.12

I had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of my up-t0-date Firefox due to another problem (it would only open one window), but after reinstalling my extensions, their icons were not displaying.

Assuming you mean the personal name associated with the account, as opposed to the login (which you can change if it's not an @icloud.com. @me.com or @mac.com address) you can change this at http://appleid.appla.com . Click on 'Manage your account' and then on 'Edit' next to 'Your name' and the name currently associated with the ID.
