Enire system unresponsive at regular intervals

This problem is similar to others I've found, but none of those suggestions/answers have solved my problem.
While I'm using my computer--which usually 6 or more hours each day--every 10 or 15 minutes everything stops. Quite literally stops, as though the system has crashed. The mouse still moves the cursor, but clicking on any open window simply puts the associated application into a "not responding" state in the Activity Monitor, and the little beach ball just spins and spins. It changes to a pointer if it goes over a window from an application that is not yet identified as "not responding", but click and that changes as well.
The system stays in this state for 30 - 90 seconds, and then, as though by magic, or perhaps an act of God, everything proceeds as though nothing had happened.
Things seem to get worse over the course of that 30 - 90 second absence and even the Activity Monitor stops. The trace at the bottom simply stops, and none of the activity values in the table change, and the AM is unresponsive to any mouse click.
Some observations:
1. The system does not respond to the keyboard when having such a seizure.
2. The time of day clock in the top menu bar stops ticking and does not advance.
3. CPU usage is NOT anywhere near 100% in the AM, or at least it is not reported as such. In fact, it seems to be no different than it was when the seizure started.
4. Nor is the network busy or the disk hyperactive. All critical indicators seem normal. System memory (2 gig) may be full, but no swapping is being done during a seizure.
5. When the seizure ends, I have seen a burst of network activity and at the same time a burst of CPU activity by a task called "spindump". Occasionally there has been more than one such burst at the resumption of activity. I cannot say that this happens every time.
6. I have repaired permissions using the Disk Utility.
7. I removed my real-time virus scanning software (which I run to prevent accidentally sending a virus to a PC based client)
8. I stopped using Safari after reading something that suggested these types of problems might be associated with Safari.
9. I have 135 Gbytes free on my 500 Gbyte Macintosh HD drive. I also have an external 750 Gbyte LaCie USB 2 drive that I use strictly for backup. The external drive may or may not be active when a seizure occurs.
10. I have 2 Gbytes of RAM which was preinstalled when I bought my system.
11. I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but as I said, during a seizure, the mouse at least seems to communicate just fine, and the keyboard input is obviously received, since the system got my login correctly while seeming to be unconscious. See the next paragraph.
12. I do have about 1,500,000 files on my system, but as I mentioned there is no exceptional disk activity associated with this issue.
Now, for the kicker. Yesterday, in another of my frustrating attempts to get this behavior to stop, I was rebooting my computer, and IT SUFFERED A SEIZURE WHILE ON THE LOGIN SCREEN, with no users logged in. I clicked in the user name field and the ol' beachball started spinning away and continued to do so for 45 seconds (which seemed much longer under the circumstances), then accepted all of the characters of my login which I had typed while waiting and logged me in just fine.
Anyone who can provide any help or useful insight will be highly regarded by me forever. I use my computer to earn a living and <great irony, while I was typing this message, my computer stopped right here for over a minute> stopping several times an hour to watch nothing happen, is getting on my nerves.

Since I needed to be out all morning, last night I left my machine running with Sleep turned off and all applications except for the Console shut off. I turned off Time Machine, because I had noticed that the seizures were occurring about 4 minutes after Time Machine finished its hourly backup.
The Time Machine connection turned out to be only a coincidence. From midnight until noon, the seizure problem re-occurred every hour on the hour, and with no activity on the computer at all, it lasted longer, at least five minutes in each case. It's easy to tell how long they last because the console messages conveniently appear every ten seconds.
Time Machine just happened to be running backups at 8 minutes before the hour which made it look as though they were connected.
Other than the hourly recurrence, I have seen the problem only when I open a mailbox in Mail. (Dang, it's 2 PM so I just got to sit here for 4 minutes,)
Tomorrow, I will take printouts of the logs over to the Apple store and talk to a genius as suggested. I'll report what I learn.
In the meantime, my theory is that this is related to the Spotlight indexing activity done, I believe, by the system routine "mds". I installed the 750 gig backup drive just two weeks ago, and now back up all of my non-OS files (~250 gig) instead of just the most critical 30 gig I was putting on a smaller external drive. I have seen other comments here and elsewhere on the Internet suggesting that the indexing can periodically gobble up your processor, especially when there are large piles of new files to play with. But that's just my theory. I'll report facts when I have them.

  • BPM composer getting refreshed automatically at regular intervals

    Hi,
    We have installed SOA Suite 11.1.1.6. While working on BPM composer, the window gets refreshed automatically after regular intervals and the entire work gets lost.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    > and the tcode for the lock is KRNL. and we dont have any other information regarding this.
    You mention that this is the account of an employee, so I assume a Dialog type user ID.
    Sounds to me like a script somewhere with this user ID in it for the connection to the system. Could be anywhere... theoretically also on a PC.
    Contact the user and ask them whether they saved their pwd anywhere.
    Also activate the SM20 dynamic filters to find the terminal for all types of events (also not critical) before the next pwd lock of the user (128).
    If you find that the terminal is an application server of your own system, then you will need to check your jobs again in more detail and in extreme cases even transport imports.
    Cheers,
    Julius

    Everything works fine but the power button on my cinema display flashes three times in regular intervals over and over again. I'm going to have a seizure!

    Sorry Malcome. Everytine I try to give you a "solved" I get

    I'll keep trying.

  • SLD Data Supplier User is locked at regular intervals

    Dear Sirs,
    I have a Webdynpro application using two JCO connections to the backend to fetch data. One day it just stopped working. After some searching I found out that my SLD Data Supplier user was locked in the UME, due to too many failed logins.
    When I unlocked this user everything worked again. Next morning when trying the application, the SLD Data supplier user was once more locked. If I lock it up it works, but it stops working again at fairly regular intervall (due to too many failed logins).
    The time it stops seems to be 15 minutes over each hour; however sometimes it seems to work for more than an hour some times less. This makes me belive that there is some kind of regular job which mess it up.
    Below is an extraction on what is going on in the logs around the time it stops working.
    I know others have had these kinds of error messages in conjunction with XI, but did not find a solution of the forum with fits me.
    Any hint on how I can solve the problem, or find out why the user gets locked is appriciated :=)

    Hi Jørgen,
    This problem must be due to the user being entered with an incorrect password in one of your systems which accesses XI. I'm afraid the only way to find it is to go through all your systems' RFC destinations, transaction SLDAPICUST, and anywhere else the user info might be entered.
    I would normally recommend creating a separate user for each system accessing XI, so that in cases like this it is far easier to narrow down the search.

  • X server restarts - I think - no regular intervals

    Hi,
    Just finished the installation of Arch on my new computer. The most important part of the new computer is the AMD HD7850 graphic card. I am running KDE.
    When I first installed it, I had the KDE 4.9.5 on it. However, I noticed that after a certain amount of time, the X server simply restarts and I am thrown back into the KDM login window. Now I am not 100% sure that it is the X server crashing mostly because I don't see anything in Xorg.0.log.
    I am using the latest (13.1) AMD's proprietary drivers. I enabled the kde-unstable repo and updated to 4.9.95 (I love it by the way), and while I find no bugs with KDE, the issue persists. I also downgraded the xserver to 1.12 (though 13.1 supposedly supports 1.13), but it still happens.
    Now there's nothing in the Xorg log, but there's something in a file called kdm.log. Here:
    Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
    (i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
    daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
    file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.

    I am not versed into this, but I see that it's complaining about DBUS not running - I'm on systemd, shouldn't that mean that dbus must be running?
    I would also like to emphasize that KDE is running fine and that the X restarts at no regular intervals - so sometimes after 5 minutes, some times after an hour, etc.
    Before I try the OSS drivers, is there anything else I could try? According to the Radeon feature matrix, my card is very, very poorly supported.
    Thanks in advance

    Well, I won't mark it as solved, since it still happens (even after downgrading pixman), albeit not nearly as often. Reading some forums online with the people having the same problem, everyone is reporting bizarre fixes (like one person mentioned the problem went away after he installed ttf-dejavu package).

  • HT3819 My new Apple TV works fine but turns off Home sharing at regular intervals. This requires me to re-enter my itunes password and start over again. It is not my computer. I've checked and home share is still on in itunes. Any advice on where I should

    I just installed Apple TV. Works fine but turrns itself off at regular intervals of about 30 minutes. This requires me to re-enter my Apple ID and re-start all over again. Wjen I check iTunes on my computer, home sharing is still turned on. THis leads me to think the problem is in how I configured Apple TV on my HDTV. Any advice on where I should look?
    THanks in advance.

    I have had no luck. After an hour with phone tech support I have re-installed the current Apple TV software update., re-booted the entire system three times., checked each of my two Airport Express's.,unplugged and re[plugged in every cable,  ad infinitum, ad nauseum and still no luck. I have also decided iTunes 11 *****. Not near as intuitive especially with regard to moving stuff around between my playlists, etc.
    Alright guys, is this a problem because of iTunes 11? Is Apple releasing stuff before adequate debugging? Did Steve take his high standards with him?

  • How can i refresh JFrame at regular intervals to display in intervals

    I have a query which is :
    String query = "select FIRSTNAME, MIDDLEINITIAL, LASTNAME from user" ;
    now i have executed the above query
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(query) ;
    Suppose i get 2000 rows in my resultset after execution.
    If i want to display all the contents of my query inside a JFrame, then i can say
    JFrame myFrame = new JFrame() ;
    myFrame.setSize(500, 500) ;
    while(rs.next()){
    add the results to myFrame
    myFrame.pack() ;
    myFrame.setVisible() ;
    but this may take a long time to show my frame, because first it has to either add components to my JFrame if use JLabels or if i use graphics then it has to wait till complete all of my drawString's to display the JFrame.
    and this may take time.
    I would like to know, how can make my JFrame intelligent enough so that if first display an empty frame, refresh at regular intervals and see how many i have fetched from the result set and add those to my JFrame, and do this opration untill i am done fetching all the results.
    Thanks
    Arun

    Any reason why you aren't displaying the results in a table? Both labels and drawString do not seem like a good alternative.
    Now to your question, you could use a thread and force painting after so many from the resultset. You could display a fixed number and implement your own scrolling scheme. Say paint first 50 and scrolling forward and back.

  • How to send a mail automatically at regular intervals

    Hello everyone,
    I need to develop an Auto Responder application where we have to send mails to customers automatically at regular intervals. I had no idea on the concept of sending mails automatically at certain time intervals. So, i request you to help me in this regard and solve my problem.

    Hi,
    its very simple, U can use Java mail or other api for sending mail,
    Use Timer and TimerTask for sending at regular intervals
    public SendMail extends TimerTask
    // other initializations
    public void run()
    // Send mail code
    public class MailExample
    // Half an Hour , every half an hour it runs the job
    static final int INTERVAL=1000*60*30;
    // Before running job wait 1 minute
    static final int WAIT=1000*60;
    public static void main(String args[])
    TimerTask sendMail=new SendMail();
    Timer mail=new Timer();
    mail. schedule(sendMail,WAIT,INTERVAL);
    if any help needed, send mail to prasadbr33 at gmail dot com
    Hope it would solve ur problem

  • Triggering BPM Process on regular intervals.

    Hi All,
    Can i make a BPM Process to trigger on regular intervals. We want a BPM process to triggger on hourly basis.
    Is it possible in BPM suite to do this.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Parker.

    Hello Vikram Bailur,
    How can I define the scheduled timer start event by expression?
    The timer start event is usally described as below.
    The timer start event triggers the creation of a process instance based on a specific time condition. You can> configure the timer start event to trigger a process instance based on the following:          (1) A specific date and time. For example, a process could be triggered on December 31, at 11:59 PM.
              (2) A recurring interval. For example, a process could be triggered every 10 hours, 5 minutes, 32 seconds.
    In case of the above item (1), I want to define the scheduled expression such as:
    evey Friday at 11:00 PM
    the end of this week
    the end of this month at 11:00 PM
    I have searched the proper functions but there are no them like the following convenience functions in Oracle SQL/PLSQL as below.
    select next_day(sysdate,'Friday') from dual; '---returns date of the next friday
    select last_day(sysdate) from dual; '---returns the last day of this month
    How can do it?

  • BPM Composer refreshing at regular intervals

    I have Installed soa suite 11.1.1.6. When we logged into bpm composer refresh automatically at regular intervals. All the changes which has been made are lost.

    First of all, thanks again for your responses. BTW: I was unaware if I had marked the problem as solved. I don't recall doing so.
    Are you running multiple AV or multiple Firewalls, are they causing the problem.
    '''Well, that may e something to look at, but it is also happening on my other computer which definitely is not running multiple firewalls.'''
    Are you able to identify the process.
    if it is Firefox did you try Safe Mode with all plugins disabled ?
    '''As mentioned above, I have run FFox in Safe Mode with plugins disabled on several occasions: no fix.'''
    what happens if you try Firefox offline
    '''As stated above, if I am off-line, FFox attempts to refresh itself and loses almost all content. If I reconnect the cable, the next "refreshing glitch" brings back all of the webpage content.'''
    what happens if you open only a blank page in Firefox and nothing else (try about:blank )
    '''Opening a blank page (BTW: tried it) is superfluous, because then there would really be no content upon which this problem would manifest itself.'''
    Still searching for a solution! THANKS for the assistance thus far.

    (InDesign CS5) I have created hundreds of InDesign documents incorporating images stored on an external USB connected drive. I did a manual back-up to another drive at regular intervals but far from ideal.
    I now have a network drive which is properly backed-up. I have copied all of the images and folder structure from the USB connected drive to this new drive.
    My question is how I get all of the links in my indd files to point to the new drive. I am aware how to do it one file at a time, but is there a way of doing the same thing over many files/folders at a time?

    It depends on how you organize your work. If you have one folder for images for a document, relinking one image should alert you that other missing images are in the same folder, but this assumes that images are missing. If the links window sees a clear path to the original location of the images, they aren't missing, so that won't work.
    Another thing to try is to select all of the images in the links window and go to the fly-out menu and select Relink To Folder (navigate to the new folder, and you don't even have to select any images by name).
    If you store your images in many different folders for the same document, you might want to either package the document to copy all of the images into one folder (you can specify to only copy images if you like) or use the fly-out in the links window (Utilities>Copy Links To…) and select or create a new images folder.

  • How to send data at large IQ rate, at regular intervals and avoid buffer underflow?

    Hello,
    I am using 2921's and I have a Tx that generates payload only once, feeds it to a loop and the loop sends the same packet over and over again at a high rate. Please see attachment for VI screen snapshot. I want to have transmissions at regular intervals of my choice, but it does not work. I tried introducing a wait [ms] module into the loop (not shown in the attached figure), but I am facing the underflow problem.
    Can someone please advise me on how to achieve this? Right now, the packet transmission interval is decided by the USRP, as soon as it sends a packet it sends another one, and if I try to control the transmission interval by using wait [ms] model, I have underflow.
    Here are some details that could help you help me:
    *30, 60, 90 or 120 bytes of payload
    *8/16 bits sample width
    *8 samples per symbol
    *IQ rate of 8 MS/s
    I would like to send every 10 ms, whereas sending 30,60,90,120 bytes takes about 1,2,3,4 ms, respectively.
    Thanks!

    Here are some general tips to increase your Tx streaming throughput:
    0) Don't use a continuous generation at all.  For many applications you don't need to stream continuously- a finite transmission (and you can loop a finite transmission) will do and you will basically not underflow in that case if you provide all the data up front.
    1) As you can see from the chart, the bigger the data buffer you provide in each Write call, the faster you can stream.
    2) Write sizes in multiples of the maximum packet size seem to work well.  That number is 363for the USRP-292x series (although that may change in future driver releases).  Try sending bursts of 10890 samples.
    3) If your application allows it, set a Start Trigger Time a little in the future.  Then start writing data before the device starts transmitting.  For example, set the Start Trigger Time to the (current device time + 1 second).  Then start writing data and you will have a second to pre-fill the on-device buffers.  This will substantially reduce the number of underflows.
    4) Be sure to do your data processing out of your write loop, to keep the write loop filling the pipleline as quickly as possible.
    For your specific application, a finite, timed generation may be the write pattern.

  • Sending a mail at regular intervals

    Hi everyone,
    I need to develop an Auto Responder application where we have to send emails or news letters to our clients(customers) automatically at regular intervals(i.e., for every specific no. of days). I request you to help me in this matter so that my application can send mails automatically without any manual involvement.

    I don't know what level of detail you need, but I'll toss the thread scheduler at you...
    The java.util.concurrent.ScheduleExecutorService (returned by Executors) has a method called scheduleAtFixedRate. Given that your email code is in (or called from) a "Runnable", you can pass that Runnable object to scheduleAtFixedRate and the thread scheduler will run it for you ever x-number-of-seconds automatically.
    It's just one piece of the puzzle, but maybe it'll help.
