Enlarge window in Word

When I open Word for Mac, the window opens very small and I cannot enlarge it with the bottom corner square. Changing the view does not help as that only affects the text inside the window. How do I get the window to enlarge so that I can work on the document?

It may just be a corrupt preference file.
Close Word. Open the Preferences folder of your user account. Toss out the file:
com.microsoft.Word.plist
Launch Word and see if anything changed.

Swapping between windows in Word for Mac 2011?

I've just installed Word for Mac 2011 on my new Mac Mini, and somehow the Command+` keyboard shortcut for switching between open Word windows is not working anymore. I've tried to find the answer online, but everyone states to use Command+`, which is exactly what's not working anymore for me. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for the response. I guess my request wasn't clear: what I was trying to indicate is that the very thing you are suggesting is not working. One important note though is: you mention Command + Tilde, which would mean the key sequence would have to be Command/Shift/Tilde-key, and it appears that the support page you linked indicates that also. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work either in my Word app (it does work with other apps, so either Command + ` (accent grave) and Command + Shift + ~ works to switch between windows. On all of the Macs that I have owned so far, the keyboard shortcut to switch between windows in the open app is Command + ` (accent grave, i.e. same key as the tilde, but used without Shift). This currently works just fine between windows of any app (Chrome, Safari, Finder), but not with Word. It's driving me nuts! Any other suggestions of what may be causing this (and how to fix it?).

When enlarging windows while surfing with Safari, windows open but empty?

I am new to Macs in general, but I am having a problem with opening the pop up type windows in places such as ebay etc.
If there is an option to enlarge a picture, when it blows the picture up full size the box opens but it is blank. I tried shutting off the pop-up blockers etc but it makes no difference. The box is just the color of the background.
Any ideas?

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.

RoboHelp 10 For WORD IE10 & IE11 Windows 7 Word 2010 Display Problems

I have applied fixes from Adobe for Blank Topic Panes in IE10 and a blank TOC in IE11. The instructions indicate the fixes should be made in folder RoboHTML which I have done with no solution to the problems. I am wondering if I should apply the Adobe fixes to folder RoboHELP since I am using RoboHelp 10 for Word in a Windows 7 environment. The reason for the question is that the data structure appears to be the same under both folders and the RoboHELP folder does not seem to be present in a RoboHelp 8 installation of HTML without Word.

I understand the question but only Rh's developers can answer that. My guess would be that only Rh HTML was patched but maybe they can now fix it for Rh for Word. Support are the people to ask them that.

Can't open Mail Merge Manager Window in Word

I'm using Word 2011 for Mac Version 14.2.5 on Macbook Pro OS10.8.2 and I when I open a Word document and Click on "tools" menu and drop down to click on "Mail Merge Manager", the Mail Merge Manager window will not open.
Can anyone help me with this? I've tried all the possible solutions I could find on the Microsoft website and Microsoft Communities and I'm stuck. The only other solution is to go to the genius bar and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to buy a new version of Microsoft office.

The documents aren't replacing each other - what you're experiencing is the new "tabbed windows" feature in CS4. Next time you try to open 2 documents, look at the bottom of the "Window" menu and you'll see that both documents are actually open. Then look at the window's title bar and you'll see two "tabs", similar to what some web browsers do with multiple open windows. Just click on the tab of the window you want in the foreground.
If you'd prefer to go back to the CS3 method, go to "Preferences>Interface" and un-check the "open documents as tabs" checkbox.

Is Acrobat Standard 10 incompatible with Windows Microsoft Word 2003, v 11.8?

An Acrobat Add-In has to be disabled for me to open a Word file. If the Add-In is disabled I cannot create a .pdf. The error dialog box attributes the problem to a runtime error due to program c:\program files\microsoft office\office11\winword exe. An associated dialog box says that Runtime is shutting down Adobe Acrobat 10 early because the security is too high. But putting Word Macro Security setting on medium and then on low doesn't help. Nor does telling a Microsoft security box that Adobe.com is a trusted site. I have spent critical hours trying to fix this, without result. I would appreciate whatever help I can get. I didn't have any trouble creating .pdf files with Acrobat 9. Tks. DWI.

Word 2003 is compatible with the PDF Maker macro for Acrobat X Std. What OS are you running? Have you tried to load the PDF Maker macro manually?
Exit all programs.
Select Tools > Customize, and click the Commands tab.
Click Tools in the Categories panel.
Drag COM Add-ins from the Commands panel to the Tools menu while holding down the mouse button. When the Tools menu displays the menu commands, drag COM Add-ins just below the Customize option, and then release the mouse button.
Click Close.
Click COM Add-ins on the Tools menu.
Click Add, locate the add-in (the PDFMaker Add-in is at [Acrobat Installation Path]\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddIn.dll), and click OK.
Press Alt+F11 to start the Visual Basic Editor.
Press Ctrl+G to start the Immediate Window of Visual Basic Editor.
To start PDFMaker in Word, type Application.COMAddIns("PDFMaker.OfficeAddin").Connect = True. Close the Visual Basic Editor.
Verify that the Adobe PDF menu now appears to the right of Help on the Microsoft Word menu bar.
Also, renaming the global template file, Normal.dot, sometimes helps resolve the issue. There are instructions at the bottom of this article from Microsoft that explain how to do this.

Windows xp to windows 7 word search

In my older windows xp I could word search and all my pdf files with that word in the text would pop up. Now in windows 7 only the files with the word in the file name pop up. Any help?

Enlarge Window Size

I opened the Terminal utility but for some reason the window opened very very small. Off the three color buttons normally in the upper left hand corner of a window (red yellow green), the window is so small only the red button shows. In fact, it is so small, I cannot grab the lower right hand corner to enlarge the window. All new windows open the same way.
Going to the menu bar of Terminal > Window > Zoom (or Return to Default Size, etc) does not change anything.
Going to Terminal > Terminal > Window Settings and changing the dimensions does not seem to change anything. What should these dimension settings be by the way?
How can a window be enlarged in this situation?
Is there a shortcut key that has the same function as the Green button -- i.e. enlarging a window to its maximum size?

I had it search for known strings in Permissions (things that I know are in plist files, for instance) and it came up with no responses.
Trouble is, some plist files use a binary format and the strings are only viewable in a plist Editor.
So, what is the difference between accounts?

Where else besides the Terminal plist could information be stored?
The reason we can delete .plists & have them remade upon rebooting is that there are Defaults stored, sometimes in plists, sometimes other places, sometimes the App has the defaults in it or one of it's files.
Did you look in...
/Volumes/TigerOS9/Library/Preferences/ for com.apple.Terminal.plist
Hey, maybe put a copy there & reboot!?
As a workaround you might try an Applescript to resize that small one...

Saving from Windows Microsoft Word 2003 and ACL !

If I save directly from the Word to a Network-drive I get a strange behaviour of the ACL's !
the file get added ACL 'Users' and an other 'Everyone' the from the parent folder inherited ACL tbsxuser will be tripled !
If I copy the same file from the desktop to the Network-drive the behaviour is like expect !

I have the same problem with Office 2007. On a share I have set ACL "Domain Users Read/Write" to propagate to all directories. The POSIX rights are set to "rw" for owner/group/others. When I save an Excel file to the shared directory, the following happens:
- POSIX rights are all turned off to none
- the creator, Users, and Everyone will get ACL entries (read/write, read only, and read-only)
- Domain Users ACL is present 4 times
After the next save the Domain Users ACL is present 10 times, one more time and there are 22 entries.
It is clearly a problem with Office. Notepad doesn't change the file permissions. I have not yet tried different locking settings. Currently both strict and oportunistic locks are set on.
Also I'd like to add that this strange behaviour happens both on 10.5.6 and 10.4.11, I just tested this.
I think it would be good to be able to see if the same happens on a Windows Server share but I need to figure out how to test it. File Properties in Windows Explorer doesn't show multiple ACLs even though Mac Server Admin shows they are there.

Windows 7 Word 2010 with EPS A4 Acrobat X Pro Paper Size Issue

I'm running into the following issue trying to create a PDF.
Word 2010 A4 page size. Document has some Illustrator EPS images used in it.
When I go to make the PDF using Acrobat from the top menu and then Create PDF, the page size of the PDF is A4, but the color is the low res bit map preview look. Not acceptable color, all colors converted to CMYK, but the EPS files have incorrect color values.
When I use File Print Acrobat PDF, the color is correct, but it reduces the pages to 8-1/2 x 11. Every setting I can find is calling for a A4 page size. This way the colors are left as the original files CMYK + Pantone colors.
I spent 2-1/2 hours with Adobe on this and they had no solution.
We have tried different Default Settings and no difference.
The Adobe PDF Page Size: is A4.
If we make the page size A3 then it generates a A3 size PDF.
When I was running XP with Word 2003 and Acrobat 9 Pro I didn't run in to this problem.
Any ideas?

When I was a PC user, I could insert an object such as a video into my MS Word document - and it would appear as an icon, which when clicked, would begin to play the video.
I find that I cannot insert such videos/movies into my Pages document on my iPad, but maybe I am missing something, being new to the Apple way of doing things?:) Would appreciate any help, thanks!

I accidentally dragged my toolbar out of the window on Word, and now I can't find it!

As I was working on Microsoft Word today, I clicked on my Formatting toolbar to move it and I accidentally dragged it out of my screen. The box is still checked on the Formatting toolbar, but the toolbar itself has disappeared. I have tried resetting the Formatting toolbar and that doesn't work. I also know that re-installing Word won't work. From looking at many forums I found a temporary solution of clicking control + shift while opening word, but each time I re-open word I have to do that in order for the toolbar to show up. Also, my Word doesn't have that oval button in the top right corner that is supposed to control the toolbars.
Any ideas how to get it back?

Hey Claudia, look around on the home page(s). May be on any one of them. If you don't see it, look inside each app button, it could be buried in anyone of them. Your looking for an app button with little app buttons inside it. When you find it, press and hold on any app button until they all start to wiggle, then drag the music app button back to your bar or where ever makes you happy. Then tap the home button to lock / return the app buttons to normal use mode. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Security Level set to High, Windows 7, Word 2010, Acrobat X Pro

I had Acrobat 9 Pro and could create PDF files from Word 2010 files by going directly into Acrobat.
Then, one day, I received an error msg: "Secruty Level set to High, please run the application which created this document ..."
I figured that MS has installed some sort of security update which prevented me from creating PFD files from Word 2010 files.
So I waited for Acrobat X to ship, which I just bought for $199 (on top of the $449 for Acrobat 9 Pro).
I just installed the new version of Acrobat X Pro, but I get the same error message.
PLEASE HELP!!

I called the Adobe Tech Support and spent an hour on the phone with the gentleman. We went through many configurations and I'm still trying to resolve this issue (I'll be reinstalling Acrobat X in a minute to see if our changes make a difference).
I believe the trouble lies in the fact that I'm on a 64-bit system, with an MS-issued security update. Hard to say exactly what the fiasco is all about just now.

Enlarging Windows partition

I am out of space on my Windows XP (Bootcamp) partition. What is the easiest way to make it bigger?.. I have no PC backup utilities. I want to keep all my settings in Windows. I'm sure I need to use Bootcamp Utility to remove and re-partition it... Any suggestions on how to keep my data?

Most people use WinClone. Just move it to another disk drive. There are decent smart backup and clone utilities for Windows, just as there is SuperDuper for Mac OS X.
