Enlarging in elements 10

How do I enlarge a small jpeg of a map and retain the clarity?

Hi Susan,
Your jpeg image is made up of many small colored square pixels.
The resolution of the image is how many pixels make up each small area of your image and is referred to as pixels per inch. That is, how many pixels make up each square inch of your image.
72 pixels per inch means that every 1x1 inch of your image is made up of 72 small square pixels.
When you change the size of that image to 2x2 inches, those 72 pixels now need to take up a space 4 times as big as the original square, which means the image becomes less clear.
Ultimately, if the jpeg image is a certain size that means it is made up of a certain amount of pixels. When you enlarge the image, the computer can't make up for those pixels and your image will lose clarity.
The BEST solution is to find the largest image of the map from the beginning. You can always make an image smaller without losing clarity, but never bigger.

  • Enlarging in Elements 8 for Mac

    Greetings,
Does Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac use Bicubic Interpolation for enlarging cropped images. I have a razor sharp image from a zoo, but I want to crop a smal section of it, and then enlarge it back with as clear and sharp an image as possible. I the finished image to print 11x14.
Or I guess I should ask if it is even possible to enlarge images without pixelation, in Elements 8. I think it is doable in CS4. I use a high end 20" iMac, and a Mackbook Pro.
    Thanks,

  • Is there at all a simple way to set the export size of a SWF?

    Need Help!
I created an animated banner for class, using a standard size.  It ended up way to small, but all the element and text animation is done.  I can easily change the document size, but everytime I try to enlarge the elements, they pixilate and lose all visual integrity (not to mention its enough work to resize between all the tweens that I might as well start over).  However, resizing the actual SWF output proves the elements can handle being a larger size without any pizilation or degrading - it looks great much larger than the initial export.  Is there at all a simple way to just have Flash 5.5 export the same banner SWF at a larger size?   Please help!

you can load (dynamically) your banner into another swf and resize it in the main (loading) swf.

  • Help, Drop Shadow filter with strange glares in CS4

    Hi,
I've made a symbol for a logo design in Ai CS4 in wich I applyed some Drop Shadows to some elements (white arrows).
The problem is, when I enlarge the symbol (approximately 110 x110 mm), strange glares/"ghosts" appear around the elements that have the Drop Shadow applied to.
There are no Pantones in this, just CMYK colors.
    See the image please: http://www.grabup.com/uploads/01773c95e72416002699e3d3e4800428.png
(the strange glares/ghosts are the ones pointed by the red arrows, the Drop Shadow dialog box, corresponds to the red highlighted white arrow on the left with the blue drop shadow.)
When I turn to Outline mode there are no vector paths there, so it only shows this glares/ghosts in normal/preview mode.
This only happens when I enlarge this elements, and the Blur (in the drop shadow) begins to have a large number applied to it (example: blur: 9 mm).whn I Rasterize or Expand Appearance the elements with this drop shadows, the rasterized image maintains the strange glares/ghosts.
    The glare/ghosts completely disappear when:
    - I reduce the size of the logo/symbol;
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: Instead of the Color, I choose Darkness (but I need this to have a blue color in shadows not grey/black).
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: I reduce the size of the Drop Shadow Blur (with 5mm or less of Blur, the glare/ghosts vanish)
    Is this a Illustrator bug?
The only solution for this is to reduce the amount of Blur aplyed to the drop shadows elements?
If so, what happens when I have to enlarge this logo to a bigger size, say... an Outdoor?
    thank you!
    (sorry for my english)

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply (very prompt!)
Yes I read that article and thankfully was already exporting using Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) so that wasn't an issue.
So now I'm waiting on the printer's reply as I've emailed him a link to that article!

  • Caption line in the slideshow

    Hello:
Why does iWeb not properly display 7 caption lines in the slideshow function of iWeb?
It displays properly in the basic view but once we go to the slide show the caption is cut off after 3 lines. We've not be able to determine how or if there is a way to enlarge the element that defines the size of the detail slide. We really do want to have at least 4 lines of text appear in the slide show.
I'm not a Java script guru, and know enough HTML to be dangerous.
    The page is here:
    http://www.terdesigns.com/Site/New_Work.html
There are several slide show elements that have the issue.
    Thank you

    Hi
The majority of issues with lines appear to require a new screen or the ribbon connector between the screen and the board is loose. These could be caused by mis-treatment although not always and I'm sure you would have mentioned if you had dropped the BB. So it does seem likely that this app has caused the problem.
Uninstalling doesn't completely remove an app from the device, hence why it makes no difference. Before sending the device away for service (or fixing a new screen yourself) it will be worth wiping the device and reinstalling the OS. I would be tempted not to reload the problem app, there has been comment on here about the benefits - use the search facility above right if you are interested.

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 support .jpg file enlargements

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 allow you to enlarge .jpg files?

Explain exactly what you mean by distorting?
If you mean that the resized image is looking 'squashed' or 'stretched' that means you are resizing in a different ratio to your original. No photo editing software will allow you to resize to a different ratio of Height/Width without distortion.
    Example:
    Original Image - 6 x 4, ratio 1.5:1
    Resized image - 7 x 5, ratio 1.4:1 - this will be slightly distorted.
    Resized image - 10 x 8, ratio 1.25:1 - this will be significantly distorted.
If this is your problem then use the crop tool, entering your desired final height/width dimensions. You will lose either some of the top/bottom or left/right depending on how you crop and whee you drag the crop mask, but the end result will not be distorted.
If you mean that you resize the image and it starts to look blurry and edges have the jaggies then there is just not enough detail in the original to support the level of enlargement you are looking for. I don't recall the resizing algorithms used in PSE4 but I don't think they were terribly sophisticated - you MIGHT get better results by performing many incremental enlargements of 10% at a time, this often gives a smoother result.

  • Font size Elements 12 way too small - how to enlarge the font?

Windows 8.1 and Elements 12.  The font in Elements is so small I can hardly see it, much less use it.   I've tried everything I can think of and I cannot get the font any larger.  Any ideas???   This is crazy!

That is the actual size of your image file. 48 x 38 is very small.
That is not a Bridge or Photoshop problem.
It is a very small image and you cannot enlarge it more than x 1.5.
If you want a large photo you must ask for it from whoever gave it to you, or take a bigger photo if it is yours.

  • Help with enlarging elements

When I open up a new,  blank 12 x 12  file and put a picture/element on it (for digital scrapbooking) I enlarge it and when I click on the green arrow to OK it, it seems to enlarge it by like 500%. Can anyone tell me why or how to keep it from doing this? Thank you.

Which version of PSE are you using?
I tried this with PSE8. I created a new blank file with the same dimensions as you mentioned and drag and dropped a graphics content over it and clicked ok icon. Nothing happened after then. It remained the same. Am i missing something here?

  • The text in photo elements is small.  Can this be enlarged?

The text in photo elements 11 is small.  Can this be enlarged?

Yes it can be enlarged and you can also change the font style.  At the bottom of the screen, you will see something like this:
All you need to do is to select your test (if you have already typed) and then change the font size as shown in the picture within the red frame.  Sometimes, if the text is very large, it might disappear from the screen and if this is the case, you need to enlarge the text layer by dragging it until you see the text.
I hope you get the idea from this.
    Good luck.

  • I am trying to re-print a portion of a photo enlarged through "poster" and can't get just the one "page" to print. Does anyone have a solution?

I am trying to re-print a portion of a photo enlarged through "poster" in the print dialog box. The original photo printed just fine with the exception of one "page." This is what I'm trying to re-print. I have gone into the Multi- page box clicked on 4 x 4 and then selected the pages I did not want to print. This isn't working as it prints some pages and doesn't print others. All in all it is using a tremendous amount of ink for this project. Additionally I am printing on fabric which involves a deal of time in that preparation. The waste factor is turning into a huge cost. It should just be a simple thing to tell the print dialog box what I want it to do and have it do it. Help, does anyone have a solution?

    Hi Pat,
Yes I marked the question as Assumed Answered. I needed to move on. I have never taken part in a forum and couldn’t wait any longer for any input so not wanting anyone to waste the time answering me, I marked the question as assumed answered. I guess this was the wrong thing to do and I apologize to the forum.
I did go another route and loaded and enlarged the photo in Photoshop Elements, Then cropped the photo to the area I needed to reprint. I probably should have done this in the first place!
Again, my apology to the forum for my lack of patience in waiting for a reply.

  • What do i do with a very slow Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements on a PC?

I seem to be getting mixed opinions as to why my Adobe software gets so slow, despite efforts to avoid that, but my computer seems to be working just fine, it is only when in Adobe that the problems arise, like freezing, taking longer and longer periods of time to open the screen to edit a photo, or to compare two photos side by side.  Any process seems to take such a long time, and the freezing can last for several minutes, and then continue on.    I have had a computer person come to my house and examine my computer and though his knowledge of Photoshop is limited, he feels that it is NOT the computer but something with Adobe Photoshop.  I would tend to agree with him.
Several theories have been explained to me, such as Elements and Premiere Elements are a low end of the scale of Photoshop programs, so it is just not going to be able to process high definition large photos well and quickly.  Stating comments like i can only use 2 GB of my memory even though i have 8 GB, so unless i can use 64 bit this is what i have to deal with, and it is just a way for Photoshop to say you need to upgrade to the fancier programs.  I do not need fancier programs.  I am working hard to master these, and have accomplished 4 great blu rays in high definition thanks to recommendations from the Forum here, especially Steve with the help of his books.
Others say i need a solid state hard drive to solve the problem.  Others say the only way i will ever solve the problem is to switch to a MAC.  Others state is a mal-ware problem, but i have never had my hard drive so clean and uncluttered.  I supposedly have as good of PC as i could have as far as QUAD-core, 8GB memory, presently a 1 TB hard drive less than 1/2 full.   All suggestions involve big outlays of money, with no guarantee that things will be any better.  I have tried to contact different computer companies and computer 'nerds', and these are some of the suggestions, but no one really has a lot of knowledge of the Photoshop software.
I am thinking of adding an additional internal hard drive, but not sure that is going to help either.  Could i put all my Photoshop of the second hard drive, and might that speed things up?
Adobe is rather worthless in trying to get help from them.  I have spent hours on the phone waiting and then talking to someone who says they understand English but they do NOT understand the question i am asking, which becomes very frustrating with repeat phone calls.  I gave up yesterday trying to do that challenging experience yesterday after i had spent 3 times the amount of time they said i would need to wait to get a reply, and i was at work, and my free time had come to an end.  So i am hoping you guys can give me some clues of the best thing to do.
Is it true that Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are just such a lower end program that trying to do things in high definition, with 2000x1500 photos, making them into a blu ray disc is a major challenge with a PC?  I wish i had a greater computer knowledge, but i have struggled to achieve my goal, but the speed of it all gets very frustrating, though it is possible.
Another question asked which i don't think exists, is whether there is a program that could clean up Photoshop, or are there some clues that could accomplish that and thereby speed things up.
Would appreciate any suggestions anyone has.  I am in the middle of another project so now is probably not the best time to consider any major changes.  But any comments would be appreciated.
    Ron

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.
Turn off face recognition and the auto-analyzer to improve performance.
When editing photos or videos check the task manager to see what background processes may be running and end them temporarily if not needed.

  • CS5 and Elements 8

My client wants access to the .psd files I created for her book so she can save them as jpegs. There are way more files than I'm willing to save for her. Can she open the CS5 files in Elements 8, or will she need to get Elements 9?
    Thanks.
    T

Yes, resolution matters in print. Our print service bureau prefers 350-400ppi with no greater enlargement or reduction than 120% in the layout. I stuck with as little resizing as I could.
Here's what I tried, and I think I like it.
Save for Web with optimum setting for JPEG, changes to 72ppi but doesn't change dimensions. It also conversts to sRGB. so I dpn't have to mess with converting profiles. Save As psd file, change res to 96, adust pixel dimension back to original settings. Then save for web. Bumping it to 96ppi caused minimal inscrease in file size (for quick loading on the Web). But the change bumps up the images just enough. And I like the way it looks in my browser with monitor set at 1920x1090 (usual working space)  or 800x600.
Now all I have to do is remember what I did. Thanks so much to all for this discussion, I would not have come up with this on my own. I guess I'll do this for my client. I'd hate for her head to implode.

  • Save as a 16 bit TIFF file for Enlarging?

Question, a local photo developer told me that if I wanted to develop my photos at something like 16 x 20 or larger I should save my photos as a 16 bit TIFF file. Elements 4.0 does not seem to allow me to set the bits at 16, just 8. Is there any truth to what they are saying?
Also isn't the file size going to be massive when doing this. Most likely prohibiting an upload to their site?
I am shooting with a Nikon D50 in RAW format. Obvioulsy I have to open it in Elements from Camera Raw as an 8 bit photo to save it in either TIFF or JPEG format.
    Any comments are appreciated.

    Thank you for your comment.
When I save the 16 bit file in ACR it saves it as a .dng file. When I open the .dng file in Elements again the raw editor opens it as a 8 bit file automatically. This may be all well and good if I can have enlargements made with this file type but not good if what the developer is telling me is true. ???????

  • Using Photoshop Elements 6 with iPhoto 09 won´t update miniatures

Hi there - I´m a newbie and a recent switcher from Windows and Linux so please be gentle with me if I´m asking silly questions...
I want to use iPhoto to organize my photos and Photoshop Elements 6 (by now the trial version if that matters) to edit my photos.
I found the settings to define Photoshop as the default editor (by the way - can I still use iPhoto for simple edits by some hidden command?) and I know that I just have to use save (not save as) in Photoshop. My Problem is, that iPhoto does not reflect the changes I make in the miniatures (except for aspect ratio changes). When i double-click the edited image to enlarge it I can see, that my changes are applied to the image (I can also see the new version of the image in finder in my iPhoto-Library).
Does anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance.

By the way: do you think timemachine backups are enough?
    No.
I may be a tad extreme but my photos are important to me and my family.
My Library lives on my iMac.
It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected. For this job I use DejaVu because it makes a simple back up that is clear and can be tested easily without doing an full restore.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. Personally I use SmugMug but there are many options including flickr. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size, or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you will need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a restore.
