Enlarging Sequencer Piano Roll Window

I know I've seen this somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it or work it out!
I open the sequencer window for a midi track and the piano roll displays on the left and C6.
I need to be editing anywhere not just C6.
If I use the create tool and click on the last note at the bottom the window will scroll up slightly but of course this is pretty ordinary.
There is an answer but it is not obvious.
This is driving me crazy and let me tell you it's not a long trip :-)

I knew I had seen the answer to this somewhere - its just that I don't use midi often/at all really
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c0639bd/1
There really should be something to indicate this - maybe a change in mouse cursor or maybe a big flashing neon sign with a giant arrow pointing to the answer.
PS Anything past the word 'cursor' you could probably ignore :-)

  • How to edit multiple regions in one Piano Roll window

I edit multiple regions in one Piano Roll window at the same time. (It is very handy way of editing especially in huge orchestra projects.)
I can see midi contents of all selected regions in Piano Roll at the same time.
    1) But how to choose certain one region of many selected to edit it?
    2) And how to edit all at once?
Hope the questions are clear enough.
    Thanks.

First of all, the Piano Roll has two mechansim, of what it is displaying.
Selected Track: This displays all the Regions that you select in the Tracks Window
One Track: Selecting one Region in the Track Area displays all the Regions of tha tTrack in the Piano Roll. If you select multiple Regions in the Tracks Window, then the last selected Regions counts.
Whatever Regions are now displayed in the Piano Roll Editor can be edited. Select the MIDI Events and apply the command.
You can also apply edits directly to the selected Regions in the Tracks Window.
I explain all those little details in my graphically enhanced manuals ("Logic Pro X - How it Works")
One thing to be clear about:
Tracks Window: Any edit is applied to the selected Regions
Piano Roll Editor: Ay edit is applied to the selected Events
    Hope that helps

Maybe find a local who can translate for you. I don't know what to tell you for dealing in another country for service on your computer.
I can offer you something you can do if you want to give it a try. You'll need a backup of your data in your Home folder because you need to erase the drive. You'll also need a solid, preferably fast, internet connection.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Mixer/ Piano roll window

    Hey Guys,
Looking to use the keyboard shortcuts to open mixer/piano roll windows...
Unfortunately if i send the shortcut numerous times it brings up new windows instead of the one window..
Ie i could have up to 6 mixer windows open.
Wondering is there a setting to only have one mixer window etc ?
    Thanks

Yes, the shortcuts you use are to open a new window, not to recall or toggle an already opened window. Use cmd-` to cycle through all your open windows.

  • Quantize Strength - Piano Roll Window

How do you change the quantize strength in the piano roll window for Logic 8? In Logic 7, I would use my short cut to open the Extended Region Parameters window. In Logic 8, this seems only possible in the arrange window. Couldn't find this info anywhere in the manual or online.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Armen,
I haven't used 7, but I found what you described in 8. On the upeer left are all sorts of quantise parameters.

  • Is it possible to capture VST's arpeggiator as Piano Roll?

    Hello,
I would like to know if it's possible to record/capture a VST's arpeggiator as a Piano Roll, for example, Native Instruments FM8 or Rob Papen Predator arpeggiators, I can only record it to the piano roll window by using 'one-hit' note and the output will record it, but, ofcourse its not the actual 'Arpeggiated Piano Roll',,
To help you illustrate what I need , a Youtube video shows using Catanya VST with CuBase and Ableton Live, hitting record was able to capture that Piano Roll, and that helps it to be manipulated later on
    CuBase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP68d4DwlBQ
    Ableton Live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8BUjGEpWgg
I wish there was a Logic compatible Catanya :S
Thanks in advance for any guidance

Yes in Cubase some Software Instruments have an option to output Midi to the host. Keep in mind this requires a Host DAW feature to create a Midi Input virtual Port ! I.e imagine when enable the "Midi Out" in the Software Instrument plugin Logic must create a new midi port/pin in the Physical Input in Click & Ports. As far as I remember this was possible during L6 or L7 with Audiorealism Bassline working this way but currently when try to do with it in Logic Studio 8/9 no virtual port is created in the Physical Input. So my answer it is not possible currently in Logic.
Somebody here offered to use Logic arpeggiator object - yes but you want features such as the Rob Papen Predator etc. I love the Rob's idea so if I have time I think I can construct such "Advance Logic Arpeggiator" as a Logic Macro tool which will use the standard Logic arpeggiator object as engine but I will embed step sequencer, hold/latch, ties etc.

  • When i try to open piano roll it is stuck on the same track regardless of whether another track is selected. I cannot elect a new synt track and pull up in piano roll

When i try to use piano roll it always goes back to a single track. Even if I select another track or adda new blank track it will not open.
Also if I add notes to the track that opens I cannot hear them when i place them on piano roll

There's a little icon in the top left corner of the piano roll window that looks like a pair of chain links. If that is selected (goes yellow) then the piano roll editor is linked to the arrange page region selection(s). Sounds like what you want.
It's really useful sometimes to be able to unlink, so that you can keep one piano roll open (to watch the timing of the notes, for example) and not haver it change each time you do something in the arrange page.
Also, next to it is a little man running icon. If that is selected, the piano roll will chase the cursor. If not selected, it won't. Also useful sometimes.
    Hope that helps

  • Piano rolls for multiple tracks

    Hi,
is it possible to get Logic to open 2 or more piano rolls for different tracks at the same time? It would help with editing if so.
    Cheers

Yes, it is possible. Command-6 opens a new piano roll window for whatever region is selected. You'll have to make sure the Link button (top left of the PR window) is unchecked (not yellow) though, or else the open PR window will automatically jump to show the contents of whatever region you select.

  • Next Region/Event in Piano Roll ???

Having trouble with the coupled key command of "Select Next Region/Event".
When I first press this key command while editing in a separate/floating Piano Roll window, it jumps the content of the Piano Roll window to that of the next region (per the Arrange window). Then the second (and each subsequent) time I press it, it stays on that second region and starts selecting each next note (event).
What I need is for the Piano Roll to remain on the current region I am editing and for this command to simply select the next note.
The pop-up Piano Roll seems to work this way, but I can not get this to work when using separate/floating Piano Roll windows...
Why on Earth would "select next region" and "select next event" be coupled? Or why not at least also give separated commands as well?

    Hi
    Confirmed.
I'm not sure that this has ever worked in the Piano Roll.

  • Separate midi drum channels not showing in piano roll, only kick

hey ya'll!  I separated my midi drum notes on to separate mudi tracks. But now only the kick track shows up in the piano roll window.
I am using AD and need to be able to edit the drum midi tracks. I use the piano roll window for this. Can someone help me?
    Jon

You can select multiple regions in the arrange window and they will all show up in the piano roll. If you color each drum region a different color and select "region colors" in the piano roll view menu you can easily tell which regions are whoch.

  • Missing lines in Piano Roll grid

    Hellow ,
In Piano roll window (Matrix editor before Logic 8 tsunami), some of the grid lines are missing after inserting , p.e. ,a 3/8 bar an going on in 4/4 bar .This is really uncomfortable .
¿Can anybody tell me how should I overcom this lack of versatility ?
    Thanks in advance

I think you're probably thinking of the Hyper Draw area at the bottom of the Piano Roll. This is explained in the manual (pdf, p. 675).
You can also draw curves in the Hyper Editor (p. 679). In a comment here, I gave some simple instructions for drawing a drum roll.

  • Why was the link button removed from the piano roll?

Why was the LINK (chain) button removed from the piano roll? This makes Logic X useless to me as I can no longer compose or perform new lines based on previous midi performances. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

I miss that button too and just filled out the LX Feedback form (Menubar -> Logix Pro X-> Feedback) with the following text. Maybe if you guys did the same, we had a chance revive this essetial feature!!!
    thanks!
    Sebi
    Hi there,
it seems as if the Link Button (Yellow chain symbol) has been removed from the piano roll for no reason. In Score View it is still there.
I (and probably more users) absolutely NEED that Button to decouple the content of the piano roll from the selected track/region AND to use multiple piano roll windows with independent content.
    - For transscripting (Mute/Solo Audio regions while editing a Midi-Region)
    - For arranging. Edit 2 different midi regions both in separate Piano Roll windows
    - For recording. "Reading" Drum-Patterns while recording the Bass e.g.
Please bring that button back or explain why it was removed
    Best regards,

  • Transpose function in piano roll shuts down logic

So I move one midi region to another track then want to transpose it say a 3rd away. I bring up the piano roll, then click functions, then transform, then transpose, then logic shuts down. Seems to be happening all the time now, even on my brand new mac pro dual quad.
Anyone seen this problem and discovered a solution

If you care to, would you like to tell me how your experience was changing from 8 to 9?
My personal experience has been very favourable. Have wrote about it elsewhere on this forum, search my posts if you like. I did it as part of a complete fresh system update (including installing a totally new system drive), going from Tiger/Logic 8x to Snow Leopard/Logic 9x. In short, I've worked on a couple of fairly heavy projects so far with the new setup, and I have (with no exaggeration) not had a single crash yet. I have had some strange behaviour with certain functions, but not crashes - notably, no crash when using the piano roll editor, which regularly caused crashes for me in Logic 8. The only crash I had with 9 was when opening an older project from Logic 8 which had video in it, but I managed to work around that, and also created a fresh new startup template for Logic 9 to avoid any other possible weirdnesses.
Bear in mind though that no two Logic users work in the same way - there are certainly a whole bunch of features routinely used by others that I might never even touch. So your mileage may (in fact, will) vary. But overall, my experience has been very positive. I definitely don't get the piano roll window crashes anymore, which may be enough of a reason for you to upgrade right there.

  • Link button on piano roll

Doesn't seem to work - unclick the link button and the window still follows the key focus window - (although it seems to work in some cases) another bug? Thanks Bark

    Hi Bark
Do you mean to keep the piano roll window in one place while the arrange window is playing on? Then it's the catch button you want to turn off (the little man to the right of the link button). Turning link off will prevent the piano roll from changing when you select another region in the arrange window.
    Hope that helps

  • Graphics bug making software unusable. "Ghosting" effect whenever scrolling through piano roll or tracks window

As stated in the title, a bug has started plaguing my copy of Logic Express 9 ever since I updated to Yosemite. Whenever I scroll back and forth through the tracks window or the piano roll, this sort of ghosting effect appears and makes manipulating anything onscreen impossible. I have found no other mentions of this problem on the support forums, but this issue has made the software completely unusable. Here is a screenshot of the bug:
If anyone has experienced this problem and found a fix, please let me know.
    thanks

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?
