Enough already with Voice Recorder's 1h limit, PLE...

I'm hoping this post will also be read by someone who works on the applications that are built-into Nokia phones.
I have recently made extensive use of the voice recorder feature of my Nokia N85, and I was reminded how extremely inconvenient the arbitrary one hour limit to the recording is.Thanks to it, one has to always check whether the hour has finished, and if it has, manually start another recording. If it hasn't, just check back...
I had to spend a good amount of time searching for third-party voice recorders, none of which I found satisfying, either because of their price or because of the fact that, for some reason, the recording quality never comes close to that of the in-built voice recorder. I therefore have to continue to go with it, although I really wish Nokia realised that it is ridiculous to cripple the functionality of an essential application, especially in more recent phone models.
I have 8GB on my memory card and want this to be the only limitation my voice recordings. The one hour limit may have made sense 10 years ago, but not any more, and I doubt any one appreciates a "legacy feature" like that. Please show a bit of flexibility, Nokia, and address this issue in your future firmware versions. Thank you.

I have to agree, this is annoying. So many choices made in included software seem to be placeholders for third-party or nokia-developed premium apps. Nokia provides quite a bit free of charge, and is good in so many ways, that I hope they'll reconsider the iPhonification of their lines and provide solid value with included apps, instead of charging for basic functionality.
hadimassa, no personal offense meant to you, but i have to respectfully disagree, this is exactly where grievances should be aired, and what we can do about it is discuss it.

Now my questions about this player.
How many minutes can i record over voice recording.
Maybe someone can tell me how much Megabytes minute of recording will take.
Are there different quality levels of recording?
In which format does the player save the recordings?
I will use the player to record lectures at the uni'versity.
    Did anyone have done this?

  • Why I have to mute Audio Voice Recording Track always in order to subdue the voice recorded when I want to solo other tracks, audio or midi for listening. The other audio tracks don't sound without being muted. Please advise how to deal with this .Thanks

Why I have to mute the Audio Voice recording track  ( the first voice track ) always in order to sudue its recorded sound while I want to listen to other
tracks ( either audio or midi tracks ) in solo ?The other audio tracks with voice recording do not have to be muted in order not to  interfere with other
tracks turned on solo. Can someone kindly explain this phenomenon and any way to fix this ?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Thanks, ATR,
I wll try this--but I still am unclear on how to do what the Manual says is possible: select clips on another track that WILL be moved, if I so desire, so as to remain synched to the main Video track.
    UPDATE:
In the case of inserting Freeze Frame, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Put Video on Vid1 track
    2. Put Music on Sound Track
    3. Ran a few seconds of Vid
    4. Stopped Vid, selected Freeze Frame
    5. Held down Ctrl key while clicking "Insert in Movie"  also tried with holding down Alt key.
Result: a 3 second still was inserted int the Vid1 track.  A corresponding gap was created in the Sound Track.
    6. Slid the final part of the Sound Track to the left along the timeline to re-connect it to the next segment created by the above process.
Result: the video following the final Freeze Frame was pushed to the right end of  Video1 track.
    7. Slid the Sound Track all the way to the left.
Result: the entire Video 1 Track contents were pushed to the right and divided in pieces.
I documented each step with screen shots which I can send if you want them and if I can figure out how to do it.
    UPDATE #2
In the case of inserting a video clip to the Timeline, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Locate video in Project Assets
2a. R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), hold down Ctrl, click Insert to Timeline.
Result: Vid clip is inserted on Video 1 track, Sound Track is separated with a corresponding gap.
2b.  R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), push Alt
Result: pull-down menu disappears as soon as Alt is pushed down.
I can stil drag the Vid clip but it's one more manual step...I love shortcuts!!

  • Want to use my voice recorder with my MacBook Pro

I have Olympus Voice-Trek V-11 and want to use it. The problem is that it's no longer supported by Mac. I use MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.5. I appreciate it very much if anyone knows what should I do to make my voice recorder usable with my MacBook Pro?
In other words, I'm looking for something like Apache's Open Office to  MS office suit.
I appreciate anyone's help very much!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To do what you want, do not use Migration Assistant. You will damage OS X. Instead, you need to erase the hard drive, remove everything from your MacBook Pro and restore the Time Machine backup, so you will be upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion.
It is as simple as holding down Command and R keys while your computer is starting up. Then, connect the external drive with the Time Machine backup, choose the option to transfer a Time Machine backup and follow the steps in the display.
As you will lose everything you have in the MacBook Pro, you may want to make a backup of its files first.

  • I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm mic and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lecture to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • Ipod nano 6th: no voice recorder despite headphones with microphone

    Hi there!
I have got an ipod nano 6th that is working ok, but when I use my headset with microphone, the voice recorder app still does not show up. It can't be the headphones as 1) I have tried several ones with microphones on the nano and none makes the app appear, 2) the very same headphones manage to trigger appearence of voice recorder in other ipods. So it must me my ipod nano. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences? BTW: it used to work in the past on this nano...so no idea why it stopped.
    Thanks!
    Bettina

    Hello Bettina,
I would be concerned too if the Voice Memos app stopped appearing on my iPod nano.  I found some steps I recommend to troubleshoot an issue like this.
First, I recommend verifying that the Voice Memos icon is set to be visible on your iPod nano.  If you go to Settings>General>Home Screen, make sure you see the switch set to On next to Voice Memos. You can find more information about this on page 15 in the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide.
If you are still not able to see the Voice Memo icon after verifying that, I recommend resetting your iPod nano (from page 52 of the iPod nano User Guide):
    Reset iPod nano:
First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The final step would be to restore your iPod nano if Voice Memos is still not appearing.  You can find steps to do this on page 56 of the User Guide.
You can find the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide here:

Hello, today I find this Earphones with Remote and Mic on Apple store:

    Thanks.

  • Voice recording with Macbook Pro

Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question but here goes:
Is there anyway to use the macbook pro to record a lecture? I saw in downloads there was something called" quick voice recorder "
Has anyone used this? How does it work? I see it says a microphone is required.
I have one meeting that I need to record and I can't afford to purchase a digital voice recorder device for a one time use.
    HelP? suggestions?? thanks a lot

Your MBP has a built-in microphone.
I believe QuickVoice is a demo license (meaning without paying the license fee, it may be lacking some functions, record only for a limited time, etc.) - try it and see.
There's freeware that works quite well: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

  • Voice recorder that's OSX compat.?

I know this question has come up before, but I haven't found an answer to my question.
I use an Olympus DS-330 voice recorder and it's Mac-compatible. It's got a limit, set to high-quality, of 4 hours or so, which isn't enough. It looks as though Olympus has basically abandoned Mac. (My recorder is four years old.)
I don't own an iPod and it seems like overkill for my purposes. Anyone have any recommendations for a Mac-compatible voice recorder that will record 8 hours on high-quality settings, and that's in the $150 and under range?

I switched this from "answered" because I'd like to hear more. Anyone have experience with the new Olympus OSX-compat. recorders, or other good Mac-compatible recorders?
I'm a reporter, so I'd especially like to hear how they work in that context -- one on one interviews, small groups w/ambient noise.
The DS-2 and WS-300M seem likely choices, but is the OSX integration smooth and useful? Olympus seems to have moved from using its proprietary DSS player to Windows media. Can you slow down playback on that?
Any other recorders worth using? I want at least 8-10 on a high-quality setting.

  • The BEST voice recording filters

I want to achieve the *highest quality* voice recording I can using GarageBand for voice over work. I have a good quality USB cardioid mic with a pop filter, fairly good acoustics where I'm recording, and a little bit of experience with recording in general. I have experimented with several of the filters and effects included on GarageBand, but I can't seem to find just the right mix to produce a *pro quality* sound. Does anyone have any good advice on the subject? I sure would appreciate it.

If the question is how do I improve my recording using what I have...
Compression and EQ. If you don't know how to use those two tools you are fighting an uphill battle.
And how much room do you hear? With sensitive condensers your room may be a big problem.
Experiment with affecting your room and mic positions while recording. See if it improves things for you.
Use what ever you may have to deaden live and reflective areas. Use your ears until you are happy that you have the best possible incoming signal for your setup. Last thing you want is to have a recording that already puts you in a corner.
    An effect worth trying is...
Duplicating your VO track. Keep one dry and one wet using a light touch of delay.
The last thing is the mic you have 'may' not be suited to your voice....if EQ can't fix it then...
If you have a studio available close enough you can rent an hour cheaply and test mic's.
You can learn a lot very quickly being in that environment.

  • Can you use an external antenna with the 4G LTE Router with Voice?

I live in a black hole of cell service - very rural, in a valley surrounded by trees, no DSL, no cable, no other options except satellite internet which I did for 15 years and will never do again. My current data setup is a Pantech UML290 USB modem connected to a Cellphone-Mate full band outdoor Omni 3G/4G antenna on the roof. I just ordered an amplifier to boost the 4G LTE connection. The modem is plugged into a Cradlepoint MBR900 router, which then provides my home internet (way more than 10 devices, and mostly wired).
Is there a way to add the antenna and amplifier setup to the broadband router with voice so I can be assured of the signal? If so, could I then use this router to feed the Cradlepoint and continue using multiple wired devices?
I was set to order this router last night, but the CSR through chat told me that you cannot attach antenna to the router with voice - only to the one with data. This really doesn't make any sense to me, but she was firm about it. If I can attach, can I use the cables I have or will I need a different adapter?
There is so little information about this particular router. My current setup is doing fairly well, but I would love the option to drop my landline and increase signal strength for both voice and data. With no antenna, the modem gets around -125 db, and can't connect at all. With the antenna mounted on the roof, and routed through the Cradlepoint, I consistently get -85 db. 4G LTE speeds are around 15-19 Mb/s down and very inconsistent 2.5-4.0 Mb/s up. However, the 4G drops and resets multiple times a day, so I usually sacrifice the speed to get a more stable 4.5-5 Mb/s down and 0.5 Mb/s up through forced 3G.
Voice calls are spotty if received at all, and frequently drop immediately if there is any connection. And of course, the data limit has been a nightmare. I could potentially save some money by porting my landline to Verizon, but not if there is no way to boost the signals. The Omni antenna will boost all, but not sure if there's any way to route the existing antenna setup to feed both the voice and data sides, or if it would be enough to allow me to do this. This router also says it's 4G LTE only, but the specs on the antenna they sell say it boosts 3G for failover, so not sure if it will grab anything else. Any help or advice GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for reading through the whole thing.

No, not directly. You would need to transfer your data from your iPad to your Mac and then back it up to an external drive.

  • Digital Voice Recorder iMac compatible

Hope I'm in the right forum! Still very new to iMac and still in the process of transferring data from Windows. Each day I come across something that is not compatible - today it is my Olympus Voice Recorder which I rely on. I used to download the recording onto PC, convert the file and edit and cut - then save to iTunes. Now,that's not possible on iMac. Do you know which voice recorder I could get that is compatible with iMac. One that I can download the entire recording to and use software (which?) to cut and crop and edit etc and put into my itunes? I am guessing that there is already an application in OS X which will allow the editing - it is more a case of how to get it on the iMac to start with. Thanks. SM

Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) in conjunction with Soundflower ( http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ ) will let you do most things you may need, including recording direct from web inputs.
It'll open and edit most sound formats and the editing options are pretty good for a freebie. version 1.3.12b is pretty stable and I've not found any major bugs yet.
Export options are also comprehensive, though for most purposes, .mp3 or .aif are all that's needed.
There's a wiki page for it at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
No doubt there'll be other equally valid suggestions; this is far from the only option (but it is free!)
