Enqueueing a video for conversion to iPod format

Hello,
when I select a video (AVI/DivX) already imported successfully (as QuickTime reference movie) into iTunes, I can select it for conversion for iPod/iPhone without problems and that works completely fine.
When I want to select a second movie for conversion while one is already converting, I can't - the option isn't available. Selecting multiple movies in the first place is possible, though. This is quite a bit annoying.
How would I let Apple know about this problem, so they can fix it in one of the upcoming iTunes versions?
Andreas

It isn't really a bug. Just the way it works. You can select one or more videos to be converted, then you can start the conversion. Once a conversion is started, you must wait until it is done to start a new conversion. Even if you only pick one to begin with, you can only have one "process" working at a time, regardless of the number of items the process works on.
As someone else already suggested, you can always try third party converts instead, many of which give you a lot more control of settings used to convert/compress as well.

  • Videos for iTunes and iPod

I have a lot of films I've downloaded in .avi format. I mostly watch them on my MacBookPro using the freeware VLC, but when it comes time to travel I'd like to have them ready to watch on my iPod Classic.
Is there a way to convert these .avi files not only to for the iPod (which I know I can do via "export" in Quicktime Pro) but also to play from within iTunes at the same quality level they are as .avi files?
Meaning, is it possible to have just one version of a video that will look as good on the 15" laptop monitor as well as an iPod Classic?
Also, if this is possible, is there a way to batch process all of these .avi files I have? With QT Pro I'd have to do it one by one.
    Thanks...
    Scott

Well if you can convert it and it still looks good on the "big" screen, then it will look fine on the iPod.

Any suggestions? Thanks

DVDs use muxed mpeg video and QT will not export sound from such formats. QT Mpeg Limitations
One workaround is to demux the mpeg-2 to separate video and audio streams. Sorry, I don't have a link to a Windows demux utility but I am sure you can find one on the net. Convert those separately to QT formats and then use QT to combine the separate tracks into a single file, like mpeg-4, which the iPod should read. QT (if you buy the mpeg2playbackcomponent) will play and convert the video to other formats. For the sound you will have to use a separate sound utility to convert the mpeg sound stream to a QT compatible form like AIFF or Wave. This freeware application offers a Windows version that should do the conversion. Audacity

  • Apple TV - Software for Conversions to .m4v format

I've been using MPEG Streamclip to do conversions from .vob, .avi, etc to m4v format. It seems to take an unusually long time (for a 2 hour film it takes 8-10 hours) and lately when it finally gets to the end, a message comes up that "Can't export movie" with no details given. My 1TB destination drive has plenty of space available.
I'm wondering if there's a better product out there even if it costs a bit of $$ ?
I do need the ability to convert to 1020 x 780p for my Plasma HD Set (for full screen) ...
BTW, I'm on an iMac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2GB memory (the max) sunning OS X 10.4.11

I'm not sure but I don't believe the turbo h264 does 720p conversions.
You are certainly right; the webpage says:
Apple TV Video: Video: H.264 Main Profile, 5 Mbps max., 800x600 max., 30 fps max. Audio: AAC-LC, stereo, 128 Kbps, 48 kHz. (Note: If the source movie is larger than 800x600 it will be scaled to fit within 800x600 preserving aspect ratio. Resolution is maintained if 800x600 or smaller. Frame rate is maintained when 30 fps and smaller.)
Also if your source video isn't 720p, you are wasting a lot of time and HD space converting to 720p, you cannot create quality from nowhere.
I'm always amazed at the number of people who seem to think you can.

  • DVD conversion to iPod format

Help.. I don't seem to be able to find help and how to use this iPod Touch I just bought.. I've converted the DVD file thru DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter programs.. I see the converted file as being a MEG-4 file in iTunes Library.. I've connected my iPod to my computer and it shows in the listing under Devices.. I can't transfer my video file from the Library to my iPod.. How's that done..? Do I need to establish an internet connection between my iPod thru a WiFi connection to be able to do this..? I don't have a WiFi account and wasn't planning on getting one just for this.. I find the online manual to be difficult to understand and feel it doesn't address all issues as it should.. I'm about to pack it up and return it to the store for a refund.. Apple seems to have support for making purchases thru their iTunes store but doesn't seem to address these kinds of issues.. Any help would be greatly appreciated otherwise back it goes..

Never mind.. I've managed to figure it out for myself.. Sure would be nice if Apple could provide more and better support for their products..

Exporting to the iPod settings takes a long time.
Try a test using a one minute "cut" from your file. Time the export and you'll have an idea how long the entire file will take to export.

  • Cannot export videos into iPod format?????

I have Quicktime Pro, and recently exported some 15 video or so into iPod format, then imported them into iTunes for storage on my 60 GB iPod 5G. Imagine my surprise to find the error message that some of the videos, including all but three of the ones I exported, cannot be played on my iPod. I even tried using iTunes to re-export the videos in iPod format, to no avail.
What's the deal? I thought the "export to iPod" option in Quicktime Pro 7.1.2 and the "convert selection to iPod" function in iTunes was so that I could vide my videos on this iPod. Why is this no longer working?????

There are some files (such as MPEG-1 and those with muxed audio) that Quicktime has trouble converting. I use iSquint for converting videos for my iPod, and it works great. It's faster than Quicktime, and it's also free!

  • Cant hear audio after converting videos for ipod

After i convert any video i have with itunes, it loses the audio. does anyone know how i can fix this so i can watch videos on my ipod with sound

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

  • What is the best way to format Videos for ipod touch?

What is the best way to format Videos for ipod touch? Used Quicktime Pro/ Export (iPhone setting). Videos aren't as crisp as downloaded Videos. Compressors /ipod video Setting also looks crapy (with bitrate med & High). What should I use?

Visualhub is a transcoder with multiple input and output formats with specific setting for iPod,iPod touch. Costs around $19-used to work great but recently everything I convert suffers audio crash than closes out the player. Hopefully they will fix it.
Elgato H.264 hardware transcoder is $99 dollars(USB stick that plugs in to Mac)-speeds up encoding of any file quicktime can handle, settings for apple tv, iphone/touch, ipod,Sony PSP. Worth the cost if you transcode a lot of video for the Touch or own an elgato HD tuner. Files work flawlessly and look great.
Mpeg streamclip-free. Works great, has presets or can customize the output.
