Enquiry for CMS database

Hi, I would like to know more usage of CMS database in Business Object XI as recently I purchased the Business Object and encounter the pop-up of asking for CMS database while installing. After I choose to create a new CMS database (MySQL) and the installing is completed smoothly. However, after I added a new object (.rpt) into folders through CMC, I could not preview this report. The error message shown as below:
Error in File Sample Report for Alvin2: Failed to load database information.
Thus, I believe there is something to do with the setup of CMS database. Please help. Thanks.
Best regards,

It's referring to your report's database connection. Please check the connectivity to your reporting database from the server and ensure you have added all the necessary database information for the report in the central management console.

  • Creation of own database for CMS

    Hi all
    I'm new to BusinessObjects
And i'm currently in the midst of installing BusinessObjects Edge Series XI 3.1 and have chosen the option to use my own database server.
Going through the installation checklist from the installation guide, there is one point i don't quite understand.
"Have you tested the database connection between the machine hosting the database servers and the Central Management Server (CMS)?"
Someone do enlighten me , appreciate it !

    Hi
    thanks so much for replying.
I have created a new data source under administrative tools and the connection was tested successfully.
However, during the BO edge installation, when choosing the CMS database, no data source name shows up.
I tried keying in the login ID and password and this error came up.
    " [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. STW00217 "

    Hi SDN users,
we are in the process of installating SAP BOBJ XI 4.0 on windows 2003 and SQL 2008. We have created new datasource ( CMS and Audit database) and performed the necessary settings in system DSN in ODBC Data Source Administration.
    Test datasource connection was successful.
During the installation, we have used the option use existing database ( microsoft SQL server using ODBC). the database which we have created are not populating to specify in the screen. we are not able to proceed.
Could anyone let us know why the database are not apearing.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • How to delete an old SIA node from the CMS database?

    Hello Everyone,
I had installed XI 3.1 SP3 on RHEL server with CMS database in Oracle. I added an additional SIA node in the same CMS database using "Add Server Intelligence" option in "serverconfig.sh" script. Since I didnot delete the old one before adding a new one, now even though the services run with the new node but the old SIA node with its own central management server is also present. I know this because when I do "./ccm.sh -start all", it starts the old SIA too. So I have to shut down the old sia every time. This has become a sort of nuisance and I wanted to delete the old SIA node. However when I use "serverconfig.sh" script to delete it, it says cannot find the server with that SIA node.
Looks like the old SIA nod is still registered in the CMS database but the server config.sh cannot find it. How can I get rid or the old SIA gracefully.
    Please help.
    Regards.

    Thanks Danis one more time.
Yes, I know the name of the SIA. Good to know that creating an additional SIA with the same name and deleting it would do the trick. However, since the old SIA with the same name is still hanging around there, will it allow me to create an new one with the same name?
Also, I have seen almost always adding a new SIA renders the existing ones non-usable and non-deletable (without using the work around). My reservation at this point is that, won't just adding an additional SIA though with an old name make the existing SIA running all the services unusable?
I apologize for all the questions. Since it is the production environment I will be working on, I have very little luxury of first trying it out and asking the questions. We just want all the points covered before proceeding.
I would very much appreciate your inputs.
    Thank you.

  • BO 4.1 SP04 Installation on Linux - Changing CMS Database to HANA

    Hi All,
    Greetings!!
We are planning to install BO 4.1 SP04 on SUSE Linux 11.0 SP03. And we are going to fetch data directly from ECC (HANA Database), so no BW in place.
During BO installaiton we will go with the default database Sybase SQL Anywhere for CMS and audit storage but later on we will export the data to HANA Database which is our prime aim.
Can you please help us with the procedure for doing the same in Linux environment (Changing the CMS database from SQL Anywhere to HANA) and also the is there any other pre-requisites should be done to for fetching the data directly from HANA without the usage of BW.
Looking forward for your suggestions & solutions for the same...
    NOTE : Our HANA Version is 1.0 SP07 Rev 73 & planned BO verison is 4.1 SP04

  • Command line to reinitialize cms database in windows

Pls adv if there is any command line that I can use to reinitialize the BOE cms database in windows ?
I wish to automate the housekeep process to clear away all the previously created folders/report-objects in InfoView. Is there anyone with any ready to use scripts or steps to show how it can be done ?
I am running BOE XIR2 in Windows 2003 server. CMS used Oracle 9.2 as database.

    Hi Sptong,
Reinitializing the CMS DB will effectively delete everything, folders, users, groups, and you will be left with a new install basically.
Is that what you want to do? I can't see how this could possibly be a maintainence task?
There is no command line way to do this. If that is what you want to do... Then from the CCM you can stop the CMS, right click properties, go to the tab with the connection info on it and modify the connection. There you will see 3 options 1 which will reinitialize the CMS DB. Remember to most customers this would constitute a production down and 100% loss of data. I'd back up your DB first.
    Regards,
    Tim
Yes. That is basically what I wanted.
For our application, we do not published the report into InfoView. We used the InfoView scheduling facility to 'generate a final PDF file' to a report repository. We store the reports else where. Hence, the InfoView folders will get messy after some period. Hence, we need to housekeep the folders by deleting everything, leaving a new install basically.
We know the manual steps. Just wonder if there are some command line / scripts that we could use to automate the process.

  • Moving CMS database from one server to another

    Using the following:
    Crystal Enterprise 10, installed on W2K3 Server R2 (not making any changes to this server);
CMS database, installed on W2K Server, SQL Server 2000, SP3
New database server: W2K3 Server R2, SQL Server 2005, SP2
I found what I think are the steps to moving the database from one place to another in the CE10 Administrator's guide (pages 291-300, but I want to make sure there aren't any "gotchas" when moving the database location and/or upgrading the database version.  I'm primarily a DBA, so I already know about the Schema security change going from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.
In a nutshell, here's my plan:
    1. Take fresh backup of the existing CMS database
    2. Stop Crystal Management Server
    3. Click "Specify CMS Data Source" on the toolbar.
    4. ETC--following the steps in the admin guide
If anyone has done this and has run into any problems (what I'm expecting) or had it go smoothly (I would be surprised), please let me know what to expect.
    Thanks!

All you really need to do is stop the crystal services.
Backup the CMS and Auditing database
Detach the CMS and Auditing database
Copy CMS and Auditing databases to new DB server
Attach the CMS and Auditing databases
    Set the compatibility mode
On the servers/s that host the CMS service, modify the ODBC connections to point to the new database server
Start the CMS service, fire up the Crystal services.
One thing to note, I don't think SQL 2005 is a supported platform for CE10 - this doesn't mean it won't work and since the support lifecycle for the product is long gone it doesn't really make much difference however you may want to run some thorough testing prior to the move.

  • Keeping CMS database and FRS backups in synch

I am in the process of upgrading to BOE XI R3.1 from CE 10 and am looking at our backup and recover plan.
We are planning on implementing 2 BOE Xi R3.1 servers with a clustered CMS.  Our CMS database will be running on a remote SQL Server (2005) farm that will be immediately replicated to our secondary site using SRDF.
The FRS will be local to each BOE XI R3.1 server.  We are thinking of immediately replicating the FRS from the primary location to the secondary location using DFS but I worry about the FRS and the CMS possibly being out of synch when we try to restore.
By trying to have backups up to the latest instant am I looking for trouble?  if this is manageable, am I going about it the right way?
In our CE 10 deployment we have a CMS database backup at midnight and the FRS is Robocopied at 12:15.  I'm just looking to improve upon this.
    Thanks

Right both BOE servers will point to the FRS on the primary BOE server and the primary CMS database on the SQL server farm.  Then we replicate the primary FRS to the secondary FRS located on the secondary BOE server and the primary CMS database to the secondary CMS database both on the SQL Server farm.
If we need to we'll switch the primary and secondary BOE servers to the secondary FRS (located on the secondary BOE server) and the secondary CMS database on the farm.
I guess what I'm looking for is the best practice for the backup.  I think what I'm hearing is the best route to go is to have the backups as often as you want but the best way to ensure that the backups are in synch is to do them when the CMS and FRS servers are down.  Otherwise they could be out of synch with report requests being executed at the same time.
    Right?
    Thanks again

  • Cannot log onto MySQL CMS Database after network installation

I've just installed Crystal Server XI R2 on a brand new server running MySQL 5.0.45 but when the installation completes it says it can't log on to the CMS database.  It's created the empty database and I have the db.opt file in there but nothing else - no tables or anything.   I've re-run the installation and done a repair and Modify but with no change.  The CMS user has full rights to the MySQL instance for now, so it shouldn't have been an issue.  Is there a SQL script available I can run to build the initial db manually?  Do I need to uninstall and go through it all again?  took over 2 hours across the network and the server is in another part of the country.

    Hi Matthew,
I'm not sure why you cannot access your mysql DB but you do not have to reinstall.
Launch the CCM(central configuration manager) If the CMS is not stopped then stop it.
double-click on the CMS choose configuration, choose specify, choose recreate the current data source.
This will reinitialize the CMS DB if the account configured has the proper permissions. It should be a DB owner

HelloI have a windows XP sp 2 machineOracle 9i installedCrystal Server XI Rel 2 (evaluation copy)My problem is that the Central Management Server (CMS) is starting up before the OracleService that the CMS database is installed on.  Therefore CMS cannot start automatically and any of the jobservers etc cannot register with CMS.In event viewer i get this:"The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: Unable to connect to the database using the provided connection string. Reason: ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress)."When the PC boots up fully I can go into Central Configuration Manager and start CMS manually and access all of its features with no problems.I looked at this sitehttp://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/LoadOrder.mspxThe program here lists processes in their startup order and I can see from there that CMS and the other Crystal services are started before the Oracle services, for example
BOBJCentralMS starts before OracleServiceBW (alphabetical order)In CCM, on the Dependancy tab for CMS (and all other CR servers) I have added :OracleServiceBWOracleMTSRecoveryServiceOracleOraHome92TNSListenerOracleOraHome92Agent(I thought that maybe this would tell CMS to wait for these to start before starting itself )But still get the same error(s)I can provide any more info if needed.Best regardsCootser

I have used Regedit.exe, regedt32.exe and Crystal Central Config manager, all of which aloow you edit the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BOBJCentralMS\DependOnServiceWhichever way I've loaded in the oracle services to that key (binary) has made no impact. The oracle services start after Crystal and the problem remains. What I have decided to do is use a batch file (see below) to start the services when the machine boots upThis way I know they will start, and it does not take too long
    echo Starting Business Objects Services...
    rem net stop  BOBJCentralMS
    net start BOBJCentralMS

  • Create CMS databases

    Dear,
recently we migrated Lync 2010 to 2013 and made 5 central sites in lync 2013
now we planning for move CMS databases from 2010 to 2013 lync, we have separate SQL server cluster for both lync 2010 and lync 2013,
    Q. to create CMS database I need to run following command on each front end lync 2013 server or only for backend SQL server which is in cluster , then use
    Move-CsManagementServer: to move CMS
    Install-CsDatabase -CentralManagementDatabase -SQLServerFQDN <FQDN of SQL Server> -SQLInstanceName <name of instance  >

    Hi,
Before move CMS to Lync Server 2013,
for Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition, you need to create the new Central Management store in the Lync Server 2013 SQL Server database by the following Lync Server Management Shell:
    Install-CsDatabase -CentralManagementDatabase -SQLServerFQDN <FQDN of your SQL Server> -SQLInstanceName <name of instance>
For Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition, you need to Prepare first Standard Edition server and then create the new Central Management store on the Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition Front End Server, in the Lync Server Management Shell, type:
Install-CsDatabase -CentralManagementDatabase -SQLServerFQDN <FQDN of your Standard Edition Server> -SQLInstanceName <name of instance - RTC by default>
Then you can move the CMS from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013 Pool.
    More details:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688013.aspx
What’s more, in Lync Server 2013, it is not supported SQL clustering topology any more, for Back End Server high availability, SQL mirroring is the recommended and supported option.

How to reset the administrator user account password in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI3.1.
    Resolution
       1. Take the back up of the CMS repository tables as a precaution.
       2. Open the Central Configuration Manager (CCM).
       3. Stop the Server Intelligence Agent (SIA).
       4. Run the following SQL statements on the CMS database:
       5. DELETE FROM cms_infoobjects6 WHERE (ObjectID=12);
          COMMIT;
       6. This will delete a record that belongs to the "Administrator" account.
       7. Restart #Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)# from the CCM. This will recreate the administrator account with a blank password.
       8. Now you can log on to the Central Management Console (CMC) using Administrator as a user name and a blank password.
However, I've seen some mention elsewhere that this might affect permissions for existing objects?
Is there any risk to existing data if I follow the procedure described above?

    Steve,
All the Administrators Preferences and added permissions will be also be reset.  This will reset the Administrators access to default factory / install level.
