Enrichement of maps with labels (BEx, WAD)

Hi experts,
what I am trying to do is to display several maps with the aid of BEx Query Designer in combination with a Web Application Designer template. After eliminating a few problems, a map is displayed.
Do you have any experience in going further? Is it, e. g. possible to add labels to your maps (e. g. names for areas). It is obviously possible in the ArgGIs software. My plan was to create the map as it should look like in the ArgGIS software, then exporting the data to a shapefile, and then upload them for the corresponding InfoObject in the SAP BW.
Would that be an appropriate approach? Do you have any experiences?
Thanks&Greets
Marcus

Hi,
You can use multiple map layers to display the desired output also you can use other options such as filters, drill down, graphs and ticker in the WAD
Also for maps, it is important to maintain the master data.
Check my article, this might be useful for you:

Hope this helps.....

  • BEX WAD 7.0 Tab Pages issue with Mandatory Variables

    Hello,
    I have developed a BEX WAD 7.0 Tab Pages and need to pass Mandatory variables from one tab to other tab. Each tab has Container Layout Item to group them into a tab.
    I have Set the Variable Sate for each tab page generically and it passes the variables if all of them are optional variables. If one of them is Mandatory the doesn't pass the value for the variable.
    Did anybody face this problem & We are on SAPKW70018? If there are not note specifically for this on higher SP please do let me know.
    Thanks
    Arun

    I guess there are no experts in BEX WAD 7.0 in SDN to answer this question.

  • Javascript:SAPBW in BEx WAD

    Hello all,
    My current task deals with geo-maps in SAP BW: When you click on a country on the map a new URL should be created and the country should be displayed in a new window using this URL-information. The URL requires the country abbreviation (such as DE for Germany). In the status line I can see javascript: SAPBW(4,“,“,DE) – where DE is Germany. The system create the new window. However, the URL for this window is not what I require (you do not see the country in the window). So I want to override the URL-information with the one I need.
    Question: How can I dynamically determine the country abbreviation in SAP BEx WAD with the help of Javascript? My intention is to use this to overide the existing URL in the new window.
    Thanks a lot for any helpful comments!

  • Difference between Bex Analyzer and Bex WAD

    Hi Every one,
    I am pretty new to SAP, and working on SAP BW Front end.
    I am pretty aware of Bex Analyzer and also Browser, but i always have a doubt about Bex WAD.
    In my present job i talk to the users and take the requirments and create queries in the Bex analyzer which i am comfortable doing it.
    I also know all the features of Analyzer and created quries and also published it on web, and also created workbooks and inserting multiple quries in the workbook etc etc..
    However i have zero knowledge on WAD and how it is useful to me, and as if now i haven't got any requirment from the client for me to create any report in WAD or do some thing in WAD.
    I have gone through SAP SDN help etc but i am not understanding it at all.
    So can any one explain me in a laymans terms what WAD is and how it will be useful to me?
    and also if possible send me link which has got PDF screen shots of what WAD is?
    Points is for sure.
    Regards,
    Ram

    Raj,
    Thanks for the reply, but i still did not get the understanding about WAD. i have studied the link which you sent me.
    I am still not able to understand how it is helpful for people like me,
    See i create my report in Query designer, and i can execute the query in Analyser. and if i want i can execute it in the Web from my query designer, and also i can create chart on the web if i want.And i can Broadcaste it in the Web.
    and also if i want i can create it in the workbook and create chart in that work book.
    Then what is the point of Web Application Designer (WAD).
    See i have created the Query in Designer in Development say Sales report Query on the infoprovider for SD, now what should i do with it in WAD.
    How can i get it in WAD, i went to start> all Programs>Bex> WAD and i logged in to development and a sereen opend. And from here what i can do, i mean how can i open my created query in WAD?
    As you guys know i am new to SAP itself, but i dont see any advantage about WAD, i read all the articals and there i found that i can create Web Items, HTML etc etc, but i already have HTML, when i execute my query from the Designer i get it in Web Browser...
    See my question is simple, i have a query which i have created in the Query Designer, now how can i get it to WAD and after getting it what can i do with it??
    If any one has a screen shots of there pls send me.
    And Sanjeev has sent me a PDF which i saw earlear and i done the same in my WAD but i am not about to get it to work.
    I have given the points to every one but still what i need i did not get yet.

  • How to Add a New Filter Value in BEx WAD to Display All Result

    Hi experts,
    I want to add a new filter value in BEx WAD to display all data records. The scenario is as follows:
    The status field can have two values: Active ("A) and Inactive ("I").
    But the requirement is to have a third value to display all the data records (Active + Inactive). E.g. the value can be "G". The purpose is to increase the understandability for report users.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Regards,
    Joon

    Hi Vineet,
    thanks for your reply. The problem is that there are only 2 values available for this Characteristic: "A" or "I".
    The requirement is to have a third value "G" (instead of the default "All Value") due to historical reason, because all future report users have been working with R/3 reports for quite some time and they are accustomed to using "G" for displaying all values.
    Is there any possibility to realize this?
    Thanks,
    Joon

  • BEX WAD 7.0:  Chart Takes Long Time to Display in Portal - Query runs FAST

    I have a BEx WAD 7.0 template which contains 3 column charts (each with it's own seperate DataProvider/Query).  When the page loads...two of the charts show up right away, but one of them takes almost a minute to display on the screen (I thought it was missing at first).
    I ran all three queries in the BEx Query Analyzer (including the one for the chart that takes forever to load) and they all complete within 3 seconds of hitting "Execute."  So I don't believe it is the query causing this issue.
    The chart that doesn't show up right away does have more data to display than the other two...but I have queries/charts on other web templates that contain 3-times the data of this one and show up fine when executed in the portal.
    Anyone else having this issue or have an idea on how I can optimize the WAD charts and/or find out what is causing this issue?  Again...the query that fuels this chart completes its execution in about 3-4 seconds.
    Thank you for your time and of course points will be assigned accordingly.
    Kevin

    Hi,
    have you already checked how much time the IGS consumes when creating the charts?
    Run TA SIGS and check the statistics values.

  • Multiple selection with wildcard in WAD

    Hello,
    How can I do filtering with multiple selection with wildcard in WAD 7 ?
    We have this problem in two seperate situation. The first is in the parameter screen where we want to filer the output with two wildcard. The first one we can put on the field and then go to the selection screen but what about the other ????. The second situation is in the report when we want to filter one of the columns with wildcard.
    I will appreciate if someone will open my eyes about this.
    Ilan

    Hello,
    you can use the * for wildcards in the BEx Web.
    For example 37* -> 370000 up to 379999.

  • Printng FOIs with labels do not hidde not visible labels when using print function

    Hello,
    when I use the print function the HTMLElement labels on a FOI object
    that are not in the visible scope are not hidden. I provided an example
    where the 'Dallas' FOI is not in the visible area and when you print it
    the circle is invisible but the label 'Dallas' is on the print out.
    The second problem is that all lables on the printout have the same

    Im using Mapviewer 11.1.1.7 and the testcase is based on a mvdemo map.
    If you use the print function you should see the problem:

    </html>

    All marker symbols (SFO, Phoenix) show up in the same color (in print) because the same name is used for all the maker styles. Change the style names and the right colors should be used in printed map.
    i.e. change the lines
    var markerGreen = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_", "vector");
    var markerRed = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_", "vector");
    var markerBlue = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_", "vector");
    to
    var markerGreen = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_g", "vector");
    var markerRed = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_r", "vector");
    var markerBlue = new MVStyleMarker("my_vector_icon_b", "vector");
    and it should be fine.

  • Updatable city map with directory list

    Here's the scenario. A city has a business district that needs a printable aerial view map (llustrated) with numbers indicating each business. These numbers will correspond to a key/directory that will list the number and name of business. The map is updated frequently as businesses come and go. I want the map to renumber itself when making edits. For example, if the business marked as "4." needs to be deleted from the map, the rest of the indicators would renumber themselves and the directory would then renumber itself as well (so that the list doesn't have a missing number). Is this feesible within InDesign?

    You can do it easily
    1) add the map to the page (THE LABELS MUST NOT BE PART OF THE MAP)
    2) create a map label paragraph style "Map Labels" and include in it a numbered list "Map Lables List"
    3) Setup an object style call it Map Labels set the paragraph style to Map Labels,
    Set the fill, corner etc. options as desired.
    4) Make a text Frame and Put in it the name of the place and apply the Map Labels object style to it.
    5) Use copy and Paste to add a label for all the places you need.
    5B) Important! and a bit tough do the copy and paste in the Ideal Order of the list
    In the example below Europe was coppied last, so it go numbered 3, a more desired order (left to right, top to bottom) might have been USA, Europe, Africa
    6) set up a new object style and set the colors to None call it Invisible
    7) After you have finished labeling all the place names select all the page items (Ctrl / Comand A) and run this little snippet
    var selection = app.selection,
          l = selection.length;
    while (l--) if (selection[l].hasOwnProperty ('contents')   && selection[l].appliedObjectStyle = "Map Labels") {
        selection[l].name = selection[l].contents;
        selection[l].insertLabel("Map Labels", "1");
    app.activeWindow.activePage.insertLabel("Map", "1"); // Label Page for future reference
    You now have named all your textFrames and they can be refered to asfor example myDoc.textFrames.itemByName("USA")
    And you can identify them as map lables by using textFrame[x].extractLabel("Map Labels") == 1;
    8) Save a copy of the doc in case you mess up in the future.
    9) Make a character style "Place names" and apply in your document  only on the names you want labeled on your map.
    i.e. you have have a some text(s) somewhere in the document
    The USA is realy ......
    Africa is ......
    10 Now each time you have different references run the following script and the map labels will be updated
    // Labeling script
    // by Trevor (www.creative-scripts.com coming soonish custom and readymade scripts for adobe indesign and other products)
    app.doScript("labelMap()", ScriptLanguage.javascript, undefined, UndoModes.ENTIRE_SCRIPT, "Lable Map");
    function labelMap() {
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
                    app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = null;
                    app.findTextPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = "Place Names";
        var myPageId = checkForObjectByLabel(doc.pages, "Map");
        if (myPageId === false) {alert("No Map\rBye"); exit();};
        myPageId = myPageId[0];
        var mapPage = doc.pages.itemByID(myPageId),
              mapLabels = checkForObjectByLabel (mapPage.textFrames, "Map Labels"),
              l = mapLabels.length, label, lableFrame;
        while  (l--) {
            lableFrame = mapPage.textFrames.itemByID(mapLabels[l]);
            if (!lableFrame.isValid) continue;
            lableFrame.applyObjectStyle (doc.objectStyles.itemByName("Invisible"), true);
            lableFrame.contents = "";
        // Find names
        var myFinds = doc.findText();
        l = myFinds.length;
        while (l--) {
            label = myFinds[l].contents;
            lableFrame = mapPage.textFrames.itemByName(label);
            if (!lableFrame.isValid) continue;
            lableFrame.contents = label;
            lableFrame.applyObjectStyle (doc.objectStyles.itemByName("Map Labels"), true);
    function checkForObjectByLabel (obj, label, from, to) {
        from = from || 0;
        if (obj .hasOwnProperty('length')) obj = obj[0];
        var parent = obj.parent;
        var co = obj.constructor.name;
        co = co[0].toLowerCase() + co.substr (1, co.length) + "s";
        var objects = (from != undefined && to != undefined) ? parent[co].itemByRange (from, to) : parent[co].everyItem();
        var objectsLabels = objects.extractLabel(label);
        var reg = /1/g;
        objectsLabels = ("," + objectsLabels.join()).replace (/,1/g, "1");
        reg.lastIndex = 0;
        var n = 0;
        var ids = [];
        var found = true;
        while (found = reg.exec (objectsLabels)) ids[n++] = parent[co] [(reg.lastIndex = found.index + 1) - 1 + from].id;
        return (ids.length > 0) && ids;

  • Issue in Color Theme on the map with ADF geographic components

    I am facing an issue in bringing up a map using color theme .I can able to bring up a map with color themes using geographic components feature in ADF.
    The problem here is 'Edit Color Map Theme' dialog which lists Map Theme in five categories like continents,counties,countries,states_abbrev,states_names.
    we had implemented map using Color Theme based on the states_abbrev and found it was working properly.
    But after some days we found that the settings we made to work for the map no longer works and resulted in no color theme on the map being displayed on the page.
    It was found that the states_names works properly instead of states_abbrev by that time.
    But again after some days it didnt work with state_names and we revert back our code to follow state_abbrev so as to get the desired result.
    Does somebody know where is the problem and how to approach this issue?

    Quick Install is gone.
    Database repair doesn't work.
    Color coded categories is gone, and as you've discovered Theme colors are gone.
    Print to Excel is gone.
    Many desktop clients that worked with 4.2 do not work.
    It won't work with legacy devces.
    and others.... There are lots of complaints about 6.2 scattered around the forums.  Personally, the HotSync manager keeps forgetting the connections I've set, and goes to default views.
    You aren't missing much of anything, IMHO.

  • How to add a bing map with pins to a Siena Project

    Hi
    I just want to add a bing map with the current location and a few nice pins of some nice locations around me. Comming out of a Excel file. Potentially also draw some routing lines into the bing maps.
    Any ideas how I can accomplish that goal?
    Thank you in advance
    wbr.
    Joerg

    yes you can (there is actaully one on the map, blue square)
    The syntax is listed on
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff701724.aspx
    You will however have to build the correct string to included in the image source (which you can do in the source excel or in runtime in siena)
    Concatenate is suitable to do that.
    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Imagery/Map/Road?pp=47.638197,-122.131378;;1&ms=350,500&key=KEYHERE
    the PP indicates the pin actually and the bing map autocenters on that. You have several options listed on the webpage listed above. It's a question of the one fitting you best.
    Please note that your bing key is yours so you need to hide it well enough.
