Ensuring the profile is embedded

Hi
I have a eMac and calibrate my computer with a Spyder2Express.
Have Lightroom and newly required Photoshop CS3
I have a novice when it comes to colour management. Having never printed my photos
For the first time ever I have decided to have some of my photos printed by a recommended Lab.
The requirements from the lab are: This lab requests 200 dpi. My requirement is for the lab to print for 5X7.
Colour Profile:
1.This can be Adobe98 sRGB or ProPhoto RGB.
2. Please ensure the profile is embedded.
After Calibration the message I receive is that the profile has been embedded.
1. Does this mean it is automatic that once I send the photo to the CD burner to send to the lab, that the profile is "embedded", i e is no other action is required by me?
2. Also somebody suggested that I request a white boarder? Is this a good idea?
3. Is it best to transfer the photo to the CD burner from Photoshop CS3 or is Lightroom ok?
4. Any other help for me to take these steps as painlessly as possible?
thanks
Sue

Hello Sue.
I print my images at home from my iMac and R2400 but if I was to send them to the lab you have contacted, I would use embedded Adobe1998 or ProPhoto . sRGB is suitable for web viewing and printing out on low-end printers but the colour gamut is not as wide as the other two.
The lab aren't alluding to monitor calibration; they are talking about your images. If your camera has an Adobe1998 facility on it , then I would suggest that you use that if you are always going to have your pictures printed, as embedding the image file at source will save any confusion at a later stage of your workflow.
As a rule of thumb, Adobe1998 for printing and sRGB for web viewing, as 1998 can look washed out on the web ( just remember to change things in-camera, depending on your intentions).
The camera will then embed all your future images in the 1998 colour space, unless you change it. If your camera doesn't have that choice, then open your image in Photoshop, click on Image->Convert Colour Profile and you will see a facility for choosing Adobe1998 as the colour space for the image. Choose it, wait a couple of seconds, then save your image and it should now be embedded with the Adobe1998 profile. It assigns a new profile and changes the data of the image.
Open up the image into Photoshop and in the bottom left just under the picture, you should see a line that gives a little info about the image. Click on it's drop-down and you will see all the data on the image , such as document size and document profile. Click on document profile and you'll see the confirmed colour space of the image.
The idea is to have everything from camera to printer talking the same language. If I may suggest it : Enter 'Colour Management' into Google and have a read of some of the articles pertaining to it - it'll give you some idea of how your workflow should be ( especially useful if you ever start printing your pictures at home ). Just don't get hung up on it because it can get a bit complicated at times.
As for saving images to the desktop for copying to a CD at your leisure, open Finder and click on File->New Burn Folder and give the folder a suitable name. The folder will save to the desktop and then simply drag the images you intend to copy to CD into it. When you're ready to burn, double-click the folder and click on Burn, then insert a disc and follow the instructions. You can safely trash the contents of the folder when you have finished with them because it only saves an alias of an image.
I hope it helps you a little , although I also hope you'll forgive me for the long-winded reply !
Kind regards,
David Gaynor.

In the Xorg log, the differences are:

  • THE EMBEDDED ICC PROFILE CANNOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ICC PROFILE IS INVALID, IGNORING THE PROFILE."

I keep getting this message in photoshop lately, and i cant use some of my actions, can anyone explain what causes it and if I can fix it? Is it due to a corrupt card? What damage has it done to my files if any?
I'm not super techy so keep it nice and simples please!!!

Hi JJMAck, thanks for the reply.  No it does not name the profile, I'll upload a jpeg here.

  • What are the "Profile" and "Level" Settings in AME?

One thing I never understood is the option for the Profile and Level when I'm exporting a clip in AME.  Not sure if those are options for most codecs but it is for the MainConcept H.264 Video Codec.  For Profile, there is an option of "Baseline", "Main", and "High".  For Level, starting from 3.1 and up, it's 3.1, 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, 5.1.  I don't know what these are and therefore don't know which to choose.  I know that the level has something to do with resolution so if I'm exporting in 720p, which level should I choose?
**While on the video encoding topic, in terms of quality, best to worst, what would the order be for the types of bitrates?  Is it VBR 2-pass, CBR, then VBR 1-Pass?
-Sorry if this is a bit off-topic for Premiere CS4.  There just wasn't any specific location for AME or Video-encoding..

Profiles outline/suggest certain encoding/decoding capabilities of a given video compression standard, like H.264. For example, the High profile enables B-frames and CABAC encoding. Levels are a means of ensuring that a hardware decoder can properly decode a stream. For example, an iPod can play back Baseline profile, Level 3.0 encoded video, but nothing higher. Higher profiles and levels enable other hardware, like Blu-Ray players. For the most part, you can ignore levels when encoding for computer playback, and only concern yourself with profile. I pretty much stick with [email protected]
The link Eddie posted has a ton of information, but here's a good article from Jan Ozer that puts it in more accessible terms.

  • PS CC Converting to profile and embedding a profile

    Hi,
I just started using PS CC 2014. I have a number of variables that have changed, such as a new iMac, secondary monitor etc. I am working in aRGB when processing and I go to print via the Canon plug-in for Photoshop. I convert to profile using the ICC profile I want to use for the media and ink set that I am using. I had custom profiles made for these papers. When I save the file after printing it, it embeds the ICC profile, example Epson Premium Luster etc. instead of keeping it in the aRGB working space. I do not recall ever seeing this done automatically in prior versions and years that I have used PS. I would like to save the changes etc. but I do not want the paper profile embedded because I may want to use another paper with that file next time. When I open the file the next time and I want to print it I get the message that there is a mis-match between working profile and embedded profile, or something similar to that ( I do not have the message in front of me ). That means I have to convert the file to the working space at that point and it is an extra step that I did not have to do before.
Is there a box I need to check or uncheck somewhere to keep the file in the aRGB space or am I just loosing my mind here?
    Thank you,
    Jim

I'm not a Color Management expert, but converting and then saving from Adobe RGB to a Printer Profile tags and saves that file with that profile.
Your file space, Adobe RGB, no longer matches Photoshop's Adobe RGB working space and that's why you get the warning.
If you are printing from Photoshop, you do not convert to that profile and save, otherwise it is embedded.
That would only make sense if the printer was somewhere else, and you would then make a copy of that file with that specific printer profile embedded.
What you do is use the Print dialog and check "let Photoshop manage colors" and you pick your profile from the list.
Your file stays tagged as Adobe RGB.
You can turn off mismatch warnings in CC 2014  But be sure you are not "hiding a problem".
    Edit menu > Color Settings
    Uncheck these boxes:

  • Hi All, I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and transferred all my photos from my hard drive onto the Mac. I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. HELP!!

Hi All, I recently bought a Mac Book Pro and transferred all my photos from my hard drive onto the Mac. I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. I know that the folders that have the problem were not transferred to the hard drive via a photo transfer application (I have a Canon camera) but I simply copied them out of the photo card and onto my old PC.
Is there some way I can open these pictures on my Mac? They work fine on a PC.

    Thanks for your reply.
The files don't open in preview either. In preview I get the error message 'The file "xxxx_xxx.jpg" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize'. The folders with these un-openable pictures do not even get imported into iPhoto. When I try to import them I get an error message about the files being unreadable.
The color profile information on the un-openable files is not visible but I see that all the other files from my old drive are RGB.

  • What to do with the message: Activating embedded security chip

    Hello,
I've been using a dc7800 for a couple of months without problems, running Windows 7. As the machine had only 1GB RAM, i added two modules of 1GB each last week. Apparently one of the modules is faulty, as the pc would not boot with both modules inserted.
I swapped the modules a couple of times to find out which one was giving the culprit - i removed power from the pc, changed the modules and powered it on again to see if it would boot ok now.
Now, after a few times the message "Activating embedded security chip" appeared on screen every time i powered on the pc. The message stayed for a couple of seconds, then the pc restarted and the message reappeared and so on.
Pressing F10 during boot resulted in a "301 Keyboard error message" together with the "Activating embedded security chip" message, again with a restart after a few seconds.
In an attempt to solve the problem i reset the cmos by pressing the internal switch for 5 seconds. Since then, after powering up the pc i only see "F1 Accept" and "F2 Cancel" on the screen, but keyboard input is not recognized.
Again, the pc restarts after a few seconds.
I upgraded the Bios to v1.32 some time ago, but i have never touched the TPM settings in the bios.
Any suggestion to solve this annoying problem is much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Ruud

  • Getting the profile of all iviews in a page

    Hi All,
I am having 2 iViews created from a single par in a page.
These iviews display some data in the form of a tree view.
The content of these iviews are different and are based on
a profile property value specified in portalapp.xml.
On click of the personalize option, another component (page)  is
invoked which displays a similar tree view which can be edited.
The problem is this works fine if there's only one iview in a
page. If there are two or more iviews, the profile property
value retrieved got in the code is the same for all the iviews which
should actually be different for different iviews.
Can anyone guide me how to get all the profile properties correctly?
    Regards,
    Karthick

Why not install and try Firefox portable, it may well be a good troubleshooting step. Try running it from an external memory stick.

*How much RAM is installed ?

*What is the current amount of free-space in GB ? and as a percentage ?
I try not to use Windows but certainly at one stage a rule of thumb was 20-25% free space should be available. Under about 12% defragging of a disk would likely fail. A page file would need to be larger than the amount of RAM maybe 1.5X , and a hibernate file would be the size of the RAM.
    * Do not Hibernate if you are low on HDD space.
I suggest you proceed as follows
#Answer the above questions. I worry you have a lack of diskspace.
#Do a full scan with multiple and up-to-date anti-malware tools. Do not rely on Avast alone. No tool picks up everything. Report back what you scanned with and what was found.
#Backup and keep whatever profiles may be good or may contain recent information such as passwords and bookmarks, but do not use them yet.
#Download a new installer then Do a clean reinstall of Firefox, ensuring that the program folders are deleted before you re-install.
#Now restart, you expect the first restart to work. Close down and try again does it now work OK ?
The detailed instructions in the thread you read [/questions/958824#answer-436552] should help you.
If you have continuing problems is this after a restart of Firefox, or a restart of the Windows Operating System ?

  • Is there a way of syncing local contacts only when outlook has an exchange account in the profile

I have Outlook 2010 set up with both a Pop3 account and a Microsoft Exchange account in the same profile. I have local contacts and Calendar entries in Outlook. The pop account is set up as the default account. When I sync Calendars and Contacts, then the exchange entries get transferred to the iPhone, even though the iPhone has the exchange account set up on it (and therefore I get the contacts and appointments over the air) but does not sync the local contacts and appointments.
If I split the accounts into two profiles and set the profile with the pop account as the default profile then I get the local contacts, but having to swap between profiles is a pain.
    Can anybody help?

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • Relative path for Download directory folder.I created a firefox profile and i wanted to use this profile in multiple machines.I wanted to use a relative path for download directory with respect to the profile folder.I need this on Linux machines

I have a use case where I need to use different download directories with different firefox profiles.I need to use this profiles in multiple linux machines.
I need to have a relative path to my download directory with respect to the profile folder.
Ex: I have a selenium test which opens a website and downloads it to my machine.I want this downloaded file to go into some specific folder relative to this profile folder. How do I do this??

That is not a practically empty xinitrc - that file only needs one line: exec WM.  Other things are entirely optional, and some of them very useful, but I'd encourage you to stick with the simplest xinitrc that will do what you require.
Is slim involved?  Probably.  That is the source of many problems.  But to start narrowing this down, I have 3 suggestions:
    1) temporarily (at least) change your inittab to default to runlevel 3 ... actually, is it currently set to 5 or 3? if it is currently 3 that would explain why slim doesn't start.
    2) at a tty in runlevel 3 use "xinit" instead of "startx".  Startx is fine most of the time, but it is essentially just a complex wrapper for xinit.  That complexity can often iadd useful functionality, but it *always* makes troubleshooting more difficult.  So for now just use a vanilla 'xinit'.
    3) remove dbus-launch from your exec line in xinitrc.  This is done by console-kit so it is redundant and potentially problematic.  Further BOTH of these are taken care of by slim, so I'd even suggest getting both a jump start on being ready for slim and simplifying troubleshooting by removing both of them.  Just make that line "exec openbox-session"
    Edit: adding one more:
    4) temporarily switch out openbox-session for openbox.  I suspect the reason feh's setting of the background is getting overridden is due to a script or setting in openbox's autostart settings - many of these are only invoked when "openbox-session" is called, while "openbox" starts *just* the window manager itself.

  • Why will firefox not start on my laptop? can't uninstall or open the profile manager either. it simply does not run. it used to work fine until i had to restore my system.

had firefox 4.0 & have been a user of firefox for a few years now. never had any problems. had to do a system restore after my computer detected a virus of some sort & i couldn't do anything. the virus kept popping up a bogus add for me to buy an antivirus program. had to restart laptop in safemode to initiate the restore. ever since then firefox has not opened. can't even uninstall it or open the profile manager. anything that has to do with firefox will simply not run/open at all. i'm stumped.

System restore can cause problems as well as solve them, it has probably completely mucked up your Firefox installation.
Try deleting your Firefox installation directory, the default location on 32 bit Windows is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
Now re-install Firefox, it should pick up your current profile folder so you should not lose your bookmarks, passwords etc.

  • Not able to get the profile option value

    Hi,
Not able to get the profile option value after i changed the new value in the application.
I am using fnd_global.apps_initialize to initialize the apps from PLSQL code to get the updated profile option value. But fnd_profile.value is not getting fetched the updated value. Still it is fetching the old one. I mean it is stored in database cache. Please any one let me know how to get the new value every time after i changed the value.
    Thanks

    What is the application release?
Is this a custom or seeded profile option?
Can you confirm that the value got changed from the application (query the profile option and verify the value)?
Can you reproduce the issue if you use an API to update this profile option as per (How to Change Profile Option Value Without Forms? [ID 943710.1])?
    Thanks,

  • Not able to get the profile value set at Responsibility level

    Hi,
I had set the value of a custom profile at Responsibility level and in CO i used the
    following code,
    String rLocation = pageContext.getProfile("XXTMG_PR_SCP_LOCATION");
The above call returns NULL. But if i set the value of the profile at Site Level then the above code returns the correct value of the profile. I bounced the apache after the profile option was changed but no avail.
I even tried using getOADBTransaction().getSpecificProfile() in the AM (which was
called from CO) as below but could not get the value of the profile,
    Number lRespID = new Number(getOADBTransaction().getResponsibilityId());
    String retLoc1 = getOADBTransaction().getSpecificProfile("XXTMG_PR_SCP_LOCATION","","",
    lRespID.toString());
Could any of you please let me know whether i have missed something in the code which results in not getting the correct value for the profile at the Responsibility level.
    Thanks, Suresh.

Instead of passing null for the other parameters in call to getSpecificProfile, can you please set these params and try ?
Also, please note that if a value is defined at site level, then even if a value is present at the resp level, the value at site will be returned when you use getProfile method.
    Thanks
