Enter passcode with dead screen?

I've had an iPhone brought in by someone who's dropped their device in the ocean in the hopes that I can recover their wedding photos. The screen is completely dead (pins of the main board are corroded). The only good news is, the iPhone still "works"—it shows up in iTunes in both regular and recovery modes, Siri still responds, etc. But, the problem is, since the screen is dead, there's no way to access the photos because there's a passcode on the phone.
To add to their frustration—the phone has never been synced to either iCloud nor a computer—so the only way to access the phone is by entering the passcode—which, at this point, is impossible to do.
Are there any options?
Apple will replace their phone (it's 3 months old) for ~$200, but is unable to help with getting the photos back.
Thanks,
Kristin.

Michael: When restoring an iPhone, is it a secure erase? Or, would it be possible to restore the iPhone and then run data recovery on the device?
That I am not sure.  Prior to the use of an encrypted file system, yes, erase all content on the device or restore as new in iTunes actually over-wrote the file system with zeroes.  With the inclusion of data encryption as part of iOS, I don't know if that still applies but I think not (I think it just deletes the encryption key).  Either way, I would not count on the data being recoverable, and certainly not with simply consumer level tools.  Not all user data is encrypted, but much is, and you would want someone who really understands iOS file system structure to try it.
If they really want to pay for data recovery - I would find a company (I do not know of any myself) and take it to them without doing ANYTHING further to it.  The more anyone tries to mess with it, the less likely data recovery would be I'd expect.  And I cannot imagine it will be cheap.
P.S. there may be a more recent version of this document, but this is from last year:

How to enter passcode with voiceover?

Have you tried to enter the passocde this way?
When you see the password entry keys, tap each key once to select it, then double tap the key to enter it. So if I had a passcode of 1234 I would:
tap 1, pause, double tap 1 (see the entry field get filled)
tap 2, pause, double tap 2
    etc.
It should work the same way for a full password, only more tedious.
There is another possibility worth trying first. Triple tap the
    Home
button. If you have Accessibility set up this way you should get a popup that will let you turn Voice Over off.

  • External monitor for macbook pro with dead screen

Macbook pro built in 2007 has a dead screen but is otherwise ok. Connected external monitor displays only the astral starburst screen on all macs. How can I get the monitor to display my desktop if I can't see the macbook screen?

Connected external monitor displays only the astral starburst screen on all macs.
Then it is working as designed.
By default, the external screen is combined with the built-in screen into an Extended Desktop, as seen in the Arrange tab below. You need to (Gather Windows) to get all controls on all displays, then drag the tiny white MenuBar to the display where you want it to appear. Then things will begin to operate as you expect.

  • Can't get ibook with dead screen to display on a TV

My G3 ibook has a dead screen. I want to make it work like a desktop by using a TV as an external monitor. I have a video output to TV connection adapter cord. I can power up the ibook and I can hear the music CD playing... that makes me think everything is working except for the screen. But no picture comes on the TV after boot up. I have a feeling that a setting called "Video Mirroring" needs to be activated, or no output will go to the TV through the combo S-video/composite adapter cord. But without the ability to see any display on the ibook, how can I activate this setting?, is there an apple command that can be made without seeing any display on the ibook? Please help with any ideas.

Just to be absolutely clear, which "adapter cord" do you have? If you have the Apple A/V Cable or an iPod A/V Cable plugged into your headphone port, you won't get video through if you have an 800MHz G3 iBook. You will need the Apple Video Adapter (and an s-video or composite video cable). As you've discovered, you can keep your "cord" to get the audio from your headphone port to the TV, though.

  • Installing OS X on iMac with dead screen

    Here's a tricky one...
My friend has an iMac Intel Core 2 (it might be Intel Core 1, anyway it's an older white model...)
His screen died couple of months back, it's just black no power in it... So he's using a secondary monitor and everything is fine.
Except that he's still stuck in Tiger because he did not want to try to install a new OS with no screen... Understandable...
So how would I do this...
I could plug a second Mac and install Lion next month using firewire.
But when I'm going to start the iMac on first launch, It certainly won't default to the second display, there will be no way for me to setup de first steps blind...
    What are my options ?
Is there any command lines I could do via another computer, even if no users are created on the iMac yet ?
Maybe a way to modify the "system kernel" to auto switch to the second display on startup ?
    Thanks !

Does the "other mac" have to be the same iMac model or any Intel Mac would do ?
There must be system files that are different on installation depending on the machine... No ?
Maybe Apple installs all available drivers for all Mac's in the OS install...
    Thank you !

My ipod touch was disabled and is now locked.  But there is no slide bar at the bottom of the screen to allow me to enter a password.  How do i reset?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Connect/backup Macbook with Dead Screen

    Hello,
My old 17" 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo has lost the connection to the screen (hardware is really shot, and top is separating from bottom). It could be a black screen of death, but I don't think so. I'be been on the road, and so my last backup was five months ago. There are files I'd like to backup from the old machine, and/or transfer to the new one.  The old macbook starts up fine, but no screen.
Is there anyway to have the new machine talk to the old one with a wired or wireless connection?  Running Yosemite on both.
    Thanks!

    Greetings tallhandsmstranger,
It sounds as though you would like to access files on your Macbook with a damaged display. If the computer is still functioning, you can connect it to an external display to use it. This would allow you to transfer your files to another Mac.

  • Remote log into iMac with dead screen

I have inherited an iMac G5 run Tiger 10.4 that suffers from a graphics card failure. I've given up any attempts to repair the machine as a functional unit, but I am trying to repurpose the machine into a headless server for media and Time machine.
I would like to get some sort of VNC/Screen sharing setup working so I can remotely connect to the machine's UI. However, I don't know what any of the settings on the machine are now (i'm not even sure it will connect to my wireless network). Assuming I can get a network connection to the machine, what is the best way to log in and change the settings? Can I terminal log-in/SSH and make changes so that screen sharing will be enabled? I don't have much experience connecting to a machine without a graphical UI.
I assume the worst case I can pull the HD and connect it to another machine to change settings, then replace it in the iMac.
Any thoughts on the this matter? Thanks in advance

    Duane,
Please note it may be possible. I'm working on the issue, see this thread:

  • Imac (with dead screen) file transfer to macbook

    Hello
I recently bought a replacement macbook. my imac's screen one night slanted diagonally and froze and when turned off and on the screen never came back. i tried hooking up external monitors to see if it was just a screen problem, unfortunately no. based on different tests and the type of imac i believe that the files are still safe and secure, the computer turns on fine but i have no way of seeing the folders and files, like the migration assistant. i have no idea what to do and i would prefer to do it myself than have apple charge me money for it.
    thanks

I'm not sure what you want but if you want to transfer the files off the imac you should be able to use migration assistant. reboot the imac and hold "t" at the chime. this will boot it in target mode. connect it to the new macbook and start migration assistant on the macbook (it's in /Applications/Utilities). this will let you transfer user data and applications to the macbook.

  • I am locked out of my ipad.  My 1 year old somehow set an "enter passcode" .  I am not an itunes user and did not sync my ipad to an account.  I can not afford to lose the photos and videos on my ipad. What can I do?

Are there any options to recover your enter passcode with out losing all info on ipad.  My 1 year old somehow set an "enter passcode" which is different than the "restrictions passcode" .  I am not an apple user, do not have  an ipone or itunes account.  There for my ipad is not synced with any other device.  Is my only option to lose all my pictures and video?  There must be another solution in this high tech world.  I can't handle losing the 1st day of kindergarten pictures and video and my toddlers 1st steps.  Is there any help?  This why I am a very frustrated 1st time apple user.

I'm sorry, but without a backup, there is nothing that you can do to keep the photos and your data. You have to restore the iPad now and you will lose everything on the device.
You don't need to use iTunes in order to backup. You can use iCloud for backups and I would suggest that you make a practice of performing backups on a regular bases after you unlock your iPad.
Read the very last part of the support article about if you have never synced with iTunes.
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong ...
If you are not using iCloud and do not have Find My iPad enabled, you are really in a bit of a bind unless you know someone that has a computer running iTunes that you can use to restore your iPad. Any computer will do, since you are going to have to erase everything on the device anyway.

  • 6030 dead screen

I have Mobile 6030 with dead screen, i can't see any thing, i want to copy all the contacts from the Phone to the SIM card, can any one help me the way to do that with steps as i can't see any thing.
I want someone to tell how , like press menu  then press 3 and scroll down twice and so on
    it URGENT for me

Yes, it's possible that your external display is working just fine but that there may be a problem with the screen. How recently did you have the screen repaired? There should be some sort of warranty on the repair (if done by Apple, 90 days).
Did the Apple tech tell you why he/she suspected that you have a bad logic board? If your GPU were damaged you wouldn't be able to view the external display. And the GPU on your model is an integrated GPU, not a discrete GPU.
Call back about the logic board replacement suggestion, at least.
