Enter shortcut in Safari

Is it possible to <Enter> the text in a page's textbox using the keyboard in Safari, or is the user a slave to the mouse? (The "Enter" key doesn't work, and I haven't been able to find any information on a keyboard shortcut for <Enter>.)
If Safari does for some reason does not support a keyboard command for entering text in a textbox, does it have a shortcut for selecting an object that has the focus of control (hightlighted), so that one can <Tab> to a button and then select it without having to use the mouse?
Thanks to anyone who can point me to this basic functionality. I tried to find it; I really did!

Hello henri:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
I am not sure I understand your question, but let me try to flounder around and address the issue.
In a web page text box, the <enter> key acts as a "return (new line)." To send the text, you have to click on a "radio button." If I am missing your question, ask again.

  • No (Command+`) shortcut in Safari with US International heyboard layout?

Ok, I recently posted asking for the Alt+Tab equivalent for switching windows in Safari. I discovered here that the shortcut for this is Command+` and it works for other apps too. Thanx guys The problem now is that I can't manage to make this shortcut work using the U.S. International keyboard layout, and I need the layout to make the accents in portuguese... :/
Can anybody gimme a hand (or a shortcut, or a different layout)?
    Thanx

The proper keyboard shortcut for your keyboard layout should be listed in System Preferences, in the Keyboard & Mouse section, under Keyboard Shortcuts.
In that preferences pane, scroll down the list until you find the Keyboard Navigation section. Click on the triangle next to that heading if necessary to view the contents, and look for "Move focus to the next window in active application." Next to that description you should see the keyboard shortcut that performs that action. Also make sure the checkbox next to that listing is checked.
If it has the Command and ` shortcut there, you might try toggling the checkbox. (Uncheck it, close System Preferences, then go back and check it. Then try the shortcut in Safari again.)
Or you could try changing the shortcut to something else in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences by clicking right over the shortcut symbols. They'll become editable and you can type an alternate shortcut (try to make it something that won't conflict with another existing shortcut).

  • Keyboard shortcuts in Safari??

Ok, so I am a recent convert form the PC world. I have to admit though one of my favorite things about Microsoft's IE was in the address bar you could type the center of a website in and by pressing control+Enter it would add the "www." and the ".com" for you. Now I know that there has to be some similar keyboard shortcut for mac's but i sure cant find it. Any help?? I have both Safari and Mozilla Firefox.
Love the mac much more than my old PC, but geesh, sure do miss my old shortcuts.

No keyboard shortcut needed for this. Simply type the center of the url and hit return. Safari will add the www. and .com on its own.

  • KB shortcuts crashing Safari

After updating to iOS 8.02 (dearly wish I hadn't!) I lost all my keyboard  shortcuts and had to enter them again. That wasn't a major task and they've now been working for a day or two.  But now a more serious and show-stopping problem has arisen. I typed the first two characters of a three-character shortcut after composing a long post and everything froze. After somehow recovering (but with my composition zapped) I tried again and, after another 10 minutes of typing, exactly the same thing happened. I won't try to show the actual shortcut here, but I have two, say xy1 and xy2. (They enter signatures.) After I typed xy I got the crash.
Anyone know what's going on please?
P.S. There's also something screwed up with capitalisation. First character in a new line here is not getting automatically capitalised - the SECOND one is.
(Adding my sig the tedious manual way!)

2 important things I have discovered with regard to this glitch.
    1) You can no longer have similar shortcuts where one or more shorter versions have  the same first letters as longer shortcuts.  EXAMPLE: most of my freezes were occurring because I had a "GW" shortcut (for my name, 2 characters), and GW1, GW2 and other GW...shortcuts for my emails, etc. This would always freeze the second I hit the 3rd character (1,2,3etc). As soon as I deleted "GW" shortcut all the others in that thread worked.  The same for all my shortcuts. So the crappy workaround seems to be to have all shortcuts either different letters, or simply the same length if using the same few first letters, etc.  I hope that's clear. THIS WORKS, but is imperfect compared to the old IOS.
    2) The Predictive setting under keyboard is a separate but also defective issue, as this will cause freezes in Safari as well. This is much less common and seems to happen with longer entries (happened 3 times while I was trying to type this- I ended up typing it in notes, then copying and pasting). I would strongly recommend using NOTES for longer safari website forum or other entries, then just copy and paste. Please let me know if these suggestions help,
Or other ideas until we are rescued by a caring Apple programmer.

  • Keyboard shortcuts hangs Safari forms in ios8

On my iPhone 6 iOS 8, whenever a keyboard shortcut is activated while I type in a form field (e.g filling in an address), Safari hangs and freezes!
I have to manually quit Safari and then it will have problems restarting for a few seconds.
    Every single time!

    HI,
Has anyone actually found a solution for this problem that doesn't involve manually deleting my hundreds of shortcuts and re installing them? This is absolutely ridiculous! Apple seem to be going backwards instead of forwards and it seems like they release the updates just for the sake of doing it, rather than when they are actually fully tested and working and stable! Personally, I would rather they release a downgrade to a previous iOS that actually works perfectly and then only release the next update when it has been FULLY tested and found to be problem free, even if this takes over a year! I am sick to death of having to wipe my iPhone and restore (64Gb) every couple of weeks when the latest update bug hits it!!! I only just restored my phone today because the wifi decided to disable itself and NONE of the apple approved solutions worked! I spend most of my week trying to get my iPhone to work properly nowadays, until I get fed up and throw it away for good!

  • Help. I want to get firefox shortcuts in Safari

Ok so I am an avid firefox user but I kinda like the way safari runs so I am attempting to change over to that. My biggest issue is that I am going from firefox, where I use command+#'s to change tabs but this doesn't work in Safari, instead it changes the page to a bookmark. This is very frustrating and I love the easy command+# shortcut. Any way to change it?

    Hi
In Safari if I hold down the command/shift keys, the left/right arrows take me from tab to tab. Command key only and it pages back/forth within the tab.

  • Desktop Shortcut to Safari page

    Folks,
I hope I'm not over reaching myself here, but this is what I want to do....
I wish to place a particular picture on the desktop which my daughter can click to take her straight to her favourite web page in Safari.
I have easily managed to get a "Safari icon" to do this, but would like a nice bright picture that she can recognise (the flag of the website would do)
I'm not really able to write little programmes (well not without step by step instructions in words of 1 syllable or less anyway)
I suspect it is simple if you only know how... But I don't.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    David.

    Hi there...
My apologies for not offering a reply to you here --- it's more of a question, in the same vein as yours.
I have an elderly aunt, who has just switched from pc to mac, and uses it only for email and internet. She's finding the transition a little confusing, and I'd like to make access to her AOL mail page as simple as possible. Can I create a shortcut and/or alias on the desktop, which will lead directly to her AOL mail?
(basically launching Safari to her AOL homepage, via a desktop icon that is an AOL graphic...)
Ideally, the icon would look like an AOL graphic, but I'm not sure how I would do that either...
    Any suggestions out there?
    Thank you!

  • Entering text in safari

In safari browser, while entering text in controls, the texts are getting doubled.(i.e if i enter "2", it's displayed as "22" and "s" means "ss"),
    How to overcome this?
This happens only for safara, others browsers its working fine.

Tim, what Extensions have you added on to Safari?

  • Is there a list of Keyboard Shortcuts for Safari 3.0.4?

I found the article "Safari: Browser Window and Menu Shortcuts"
Last Modified on: July 20, 2007 Article: 42951
It says that Command-T is Show/Hide Address Toolbar. But in Safari 3.0.4 Command-T opens a new tab. So this list has not been updated for Safari 3.

    Hi Alan,
I don't know of any official documentation for the Debug menu, I'm sorry. I get the impression that Apple meant for the menu items to be self-explanatory to would-be developers. Personally, I've only meddled with the User Agent, Show Caches Window and toggling of RSS Support and Back/Forward Cache. I doubt typical end-users like us would require much more than that. Sorry, I hope that helps.

  • Shortcut for Safari Extensions

    Good morning.
II bought Wallet from the Mac AppStore. Nice password manager with an extension for Safari.
Ok, i need to set a shortcut (that simulates the click with the mouse on the button), but there's no option in Wallet Extension for that.
    Help!

    Hi and welcome...
You are aware that you have a native Mac OS X password manager already installed? It's in your Applications/Utilities folder. It's called *Keychain Access*.
But if you want to use Wallet, contact the developer for support here.
You may want to bookmark this link for future use.

  • Can't enter address in Safari

I am running Safari 4.1.1 on OSX 10.4.11. When I try to type in a webpage address, Safari freezes up and I need to force quit it. I just downloaded a new 10.4.11 to try to upgrade it, but it still does it. What's up?

    Hi,
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move this file to the Trash: cache.db
    Relaunch Safari.
It won't help to re download Safari again. Better to troubleshoot the Safari app you have installed.

  • Finder window always opens when I enter TM with Safari as active app

I want to recover some bookmarks I think I must have accidentally deleted in Safari, so I plug in the firewire drive I'm using with TM into my laptop and wait until the drive mounts on the desktop. I launch Safari and make sure it's the active application (it says "Safari" next to the apple in the menu bar at the top of the screen and I have a Safari window open). I make sure there are no other applications running and the finder has no open windows. I launch TM. A Finder window opens, and the default directory it opens to is my Desktop, unless I already have a finder window open to some other directory. This happens every time I launch TM so I can never actually use TM to recover my deleted bookmarks. So in other words I never have the option to restore anything in Safari. Interestingly, this problem does not occur when I launch TM with the Mail application as the active application. I thought I'd read that you can restore deleted Safari bookmarks with TM, but is it actually not designed to restore anything in the Safari app or is my TM simply malfunctioning? I have tried to get this to work numerous times, including after reboots and after running new TM backups.

Actually, this is normal behavior since Safari is not yet one the 'Time Machine Aware' applications. You are not going to easily be able to restore individual bookmarks. But you restore ALL of your bookmarks from any given backup. do the following:
    First, quit Safari.
    Go the the folder here...
    /Users/<youruserfolder>/Library/Safari
    Highlight the file labled bookmarks.plist.
While holding the "Option" key down, drag this file to the desktop. This will create a copy there in case you wish to return to this set of bookmarks later.
Now launch the Time Machine "time Travel" interface from the Dock.
Using the time scale on the right, navigate back to a date that contained the missing bookmarks.
Click "Restore" in the lower right.
Choose to replace your current set of bookmarks with this one.
Once completed, launch Safari and the restored bookmarks are available.
Later, you can drag the bookmarks file on the desktop back to the Safari folder to return to your previous set. Otherwise you can delete it.
Let us know if this resolve your issue.
    Cheers!

  • Creating a tab shortcut in safari

I had to erase and reinstall my OS the other day. In Safari I used to have a little button in the top left of Safari near the "Show All Bookmarks" that would open up a new tab.
I don't know why it's not there anymore, but is there a way to create it or turn it on again? I cannot figure it out.
    I have 10.6.7
As I just saw that.. I used to have 10.6.8? ***?

But sorry, to do what you want, in the menubar at the top in Safari, go to View > Customize Toolbar, then find the button that has "New Tab" below it, and drag it to wherever you want it.

  • Since Yosemite shortcuts (keyboard) not working in Safari

I Think the title of this subject is making the point.
I am a moderator of an Apple group on a Dutch Website. (I often use links to show them where things connected to their question can be found)
I am solving questions asked there, but since Yosemite, I can't use shortcuts via safari (cmd c and v) to place links on the website, after placing they won't open and are giving a 404 error.
Using my other webbrowser (Opera) it works just fine fine, the shortcuts and the links were working.
I used all the solutions regarding this subject, but uptill now not solving this problem/bug.
    Does someone has a solution?
    thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List

  • Google Search Keyboard Shortcut Missing in Safari

I've noticed that the keyboard shortcut for "search with Google" keyboard shortcut (command+shift+L) has been replaced by opening the new Reading List drawer.  The shortcut still works in other cocoa apps, but has been superceeded by the new reading list shortcut in Safari (similar to how it's superceeded by flag email in Mail).
Is there anyway to change the shortcut for opening the Reading List drawer so that I can have search with Google back to command+shift+L on Safari.
I've grown quite used to using this shortcut and it's much less enjoable to command+option+f over to the search window and paste in the phrase I want googled, than it was having a single shortcut.
    Thanks to anyone who knows.

Similar problem I've found but fixed. I have a broken arm and it's difficult to hold down cmd and click or do the shortcut (which doesn't work anymore), so I found a workaround based on http://rentzsch.tumblr.com/post/5794765921/search-with-google-using-chrome
It will take less than a minute to implement.
Open Automater -> Choose Service -> Find 'Run Shell Script' action and drag to workflow window -> Choose '/usr/bin/ruby' from Shell drop down menu -> type the following
    require 'cgi'
    `open 'http://www.google.com/search?q=#{CGI.escape(STDIN.read.chomp)}'`
Then save it with a title like "Search With Google (New Window)" and you are done. Then rather than using the shortcut, just right click the highlighted text you want to search and you can use this new service.
