Enter value to numeric control

Hello,
I control the posotion of a microscope stage by entering a number into a string. In order to send the number to the microscope stage I use a push button connected to a case structure. I would the event to occur (the movement of the stage) when I simply press the enter key.
Thanks in advance,
Gaby

Hi,
Thanks to post in NI forum,
In properties of your button you have a tab "key navigation",you can assign a touch to toogle (pressed) your button.

  • How to detect the key enter with a numerical control without using loop event?

    I want to accept a numerical value only when the key enter is pressed, but without using the event. How to detect the char "enter" with a numerical control?
    Thanks!

    When the user edits a numeric control with a keyboard, its property "key focus" is true. When the user hits enter, key focus becomes false. Poll the property to latch the control valuse at the true-false transition. That won't work if the user modify the control using up and down arrows.

  • Set initial value for numerical control

    Hello LV users,
    I have a VI that is used to initialize some experimental equiptment. It passes on a cluster of ten or so numerical control DBL integers as parameters. Everytime I open the programe the values are reset back to zero and I have to enter the values back in. Is there any way to set default values for  the controls so I do not have to change them everytime I open the program.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Wowden,
    If you want to set default values for multiple numeric control's in your cluster in one go,
    -Type in the desired default values
    - Right click on your cluster, browse to 'data operations'
    - Choose 'Make current values default.
     Similarly, if you need to set defaults for  multiple clusters or multiple controls on your front panel,
    - Choose 'Edit' in the menu
    - Choose "make current values default' (This sets defaults for all controls/constants etc. in one go)

  • Enter values from numeric indicator into corresponding cells of array

    Hi Friends.
    I have a doubt in arrays.
    I used WA Multiscale Peak detection.VI and coolected the location values in an array and subtracted the values using  Index array, like the first one with second and second one with third and so on.
    I inserted a numeric array at the output terminal of  "subtraction function".
    Is there a way to insert the values being displayed continuously in numeric indiactor, into an array?
    I tried doing it, but ended with an array were the values continuosly displayed in numeric indicator are being entered only in the first cell of the array.
    Kindly help me.
    Good Day

    Hi,
    As I dont have ASPT Toolkit installed, I dont have "WA Multiscale Peak detection.VI"... so I used simulated data.
    To resolve the issue, you need to do that calculation again in a loop... as soon below...!!

  • Update while typing in numeric control?

    So...
    When I type a number into a numeric control, it doesn't update until I hit enter or click somewhere outside the control.
    Problem is, after entering the number, I want to click on a "go" button
    to do something with the new value in numeric control, but unless I
    remember to click somewhere else or hit enter first, I'm doing
    something with the old value, not the new value.
    This gets aggravating.
    How to make sure the value of the numeric control gets updated before doing something with it?
    "update while typing" exists for string controls, but seems conspicuously lacking for other types of controls...

    I cannot reproduce your described behavior: With either a local variable or the numeric control inside the event case, I never see a stale value. Please attach your VI so we can troubleshoot.
    Adding a delay to fix something like this is incorrect and dangerous. If a delay solves the problem, it points to a flaw in the code.  What if somebody will run your program on a slower computer where it would suddenly need a 12ms delay. You'd be back to sqaure one, dealing with race conditions.
    (And why are you using "mouse down" instead of "value changed"?)

  • Retrieving values from table control using DYNP_VALUES_READ

    Hi all,
    I am trying to retrieve the values from the table control using the FM DYNP_VALUES_READ. I have a situation where user enter values in table control in T.code FB60 in Withholding tab for validation purpose. There i'll have to check based on some entries maintained in SET.
    I am unable to get the values when i scroll to the next page in the table control. FM raising an exception invalid_dynprofield.
    Expecting reply...

    You have to populate the dynpfields internal table before calling the function,
    data: repid like sy-repid.
    dynpfields-fieldname = 'PNAME'.
    append dynpfields.
    repid = sy-repid.
    call function 'DYNP_VALUES_READ'
    exporting
    dyname = repid
    dynumb = sy-dynnr
    tables
    dynpfields = dynpfields
    exceptions
    others.
    read table dynpfields index 1.
    pname = dynpfields-fieldvalue.
    Now you will have the field value in pname
    Hope this helps

  • How to insert values in table control & how to place listbox in table ctrl

    Dear all,
                I have created table control in Module pool program.  My requirement is first
                   1)How to place list box in table control
                   2)Based on listbox selection i have to enter values in table control row..
    With Regards,
    Baskaran

    Hi Baskaran,
    For displaing list box, use FM: VRM_SET_VALUES.
    Code like that:
    TYPE-POOLS: vrm.
    DATA: name TYPE vrm_id,
    list TYPE vrm_values,
    value LIKE LINE OF list.
    PARAMETERS: ps_parm(10) AS LISTBOX VISIBLE LENGTH 15.
    Instead of parameter for module pool , you declare data:
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN OUTPUT.
      name = 'PS_PARM'.
      value-key = '3500000002'.
      value-text = '3500000002'.
      APPEND value TO list.
      value-key = '3500000003'.
      value-text = '3500000003'.
      APPEND value TO list.
      name = 'PS_PARM'.
      value-key = '3500000004'.
      value-text = '3500000004'.
      APPEND value TO list.
      name = 'PS_PARM'.
      value-key = '3000000007'.
      value-text = '3000000007'.
      APPEND value TO list.
      CALL FUNCTION 'VRM_SET_VALUES'
        EXPORTING
          id     = name
          values = list.
    make the necesary change for module pool.
    Hope this can solve your problems.

  • Can you use the value from a numeric indicator in a numeric control?

    Hi!
         I have to develop a code where I have to find the maximum value of a waveform and draw a line at 50% of the value. So I chose to find the amplitude of say 10 cycles of waveforms and found the maximum value out of the amplitudes.
    But my real problem is, I have to use the maximum amplitude value that I get from the max. array VI and put it back in program to calculate the 50% value.
    So is it possible to use the value from a numeric indicator and put it in a numeric control? Like in MATLAB or C, you give the variable a name and use it later to do any computations. Is it possible to do something similar in LabVIEW?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi!
         Thank you very much for taking some time out. I have been trying to do this since 2 months and I am stuck right where I am.
    The situation is, I have to calculate the amplitude of the irregular waveform for a few trials and then find the maximum amplitude out of the trials and display a line at whatever % of amplitude the user chooses. I tried using property nodes but I am getting Error 1055 for some unknown reason. Then I decided to draw the line using DC offset but it turns out it calculates the amplitude each time and so the line keeps dancing everytime. Now my challenge is to have the amplitude calculated for say, 20 loops and then calculate the max from that. I ran out of ideas so I am posting here. I am using LabVIEW version 8, and I'll upload a few of my attempts. I hope I am not troubling you'll much.

  • Default value of a numeric control

    Hello I want to fix the default value of a numeric control using his node property but I haven't found this attribute. It's possible to fix this value through the node property of a block?
    I've tried to fix it, right-clicking on the control....properties....default value....but when I save the vi's and I reopen the vi's, his value has disappeared and value is set 0.
    Do you know another way to fix this value?
    Thank you in advance
    Larson

    The default value is only relevant when the VI is loaded into memory, not every time you start running it. Your code is probably changing the value to some out-of-limit value (probably 0 if your calculations are incorrect) and it is coerced to the minimum. If you want a value to remain constant, don't change it.
    The answer is simple - DON'T RUN CONTINUOUSLY! If you want something to repeat, use a loop. That way, the value will only need to be read once, when the VI starts running. If this didn't help you, you should post the VI and explain more about your problem.
    To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
    In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

  • How to get y axis value(in a numeric control) by providing x-axis value using wave graph

    Hi,
    I'm new here, Sorry if i have selected wrong Location.
    I want to get Y-axis value (in a numeric Control) by providing X-axis Value using Wave graph.
    i want to do calculations with the obtained value.
    i have attached File and Snapshot.

    Well, you are using the Dynamic Data Type, which I almost never use, but if you convert the data to a WaveForm (using From DDT on the Signal Manipulation Palette, which is a choice when you right-click on the DDT Wire), you should be able to do this.  Do you know about how Waveforms are stored?  They are a Cluster, with t0 being a TimeStamp for the start of the Waveform, dt being the time step, and Y being the samples.  So if you want a point at 0.5 seconds and dt is 0.001, you would pull out the point at Index 499 (offset 0) from the Y array.

  • I can't save a data value of 1E-5 obtained from a numeric control.

    Could please somebody help me. I am saving data (using a USB 6009) from numeric controls in a CSV file. However I realized that very small data values e.g 1e-5 can't be written in the file. Why and how can I overcome the problem?
    Thanks in advanced

    Hi Thor,
    you should use a proper format string!
    Default is "%.3f" which only allows 3 digits precision. Use something like "%.6g" - other format codes can be found in the context help...

  • Class ID Property value is always 18 - Digital for numeric controls of a cluster

    Why does the Class ID Property Value always return the value of 18 (Digital) for any type of numeric control of a cluster, whether it is a DBL. U32, I8 etc. The Class Value never come backs as 17 (Numeric). Why? What does 17 (Numeric) pertain to?

    I have informed our R&D department of the format of the control settings in CVI 2012 . I have filed a Corrective Action Request (CAR# 379345) on this issue, but can not guarantee when this behavior will be fixed. You can check if this issue has been fixed in future versions of CVI by looking for the CAR identification number listed previously in the CVI Bug Fix Information.

  • Numeric control error handling

    Hi all,
    I have two question about numeric control.
    1) "How to handle invalid inputs?"
    Let say, I have one numeric control that can only accept 0 to +inf (Range). So negative input will be invalid data input. Whenever I typed the negative value on it, this control automatically changed back to default (min) value. What I want is that. Is there anyway to detect invalid user input? So that I can program whenever user input negative number, it will automatically change back to previous valid input (not default value).
    2) "How to assign the dynamic range of numeric control?"
    I used property node to assign the range but my problem is that. I assigned min 0.1, max 1.2 and increment 0.1 but I cant able to select 1.2 or sometime 0.1 by using increment/decrement arrow. Maybe because of floating points? And also I want to do when user input overrange value (eg.1.3) by typing, the value should go back to previous valid input.
    Any idea? Thanks

    You can choose how LV will react on entries exceeding a limit. The default is, that LV coerces the value to the limit. But you can also ignore the limit and the user can enter any value.
    Nevertheless, if you ignore the limits, you always have to check in your software for invalid values!
    Regarding 2) i couldn't reproduce what you described. Maybe you should post a little example....
    For the 2nd part of your question, please see my answer above...
