Entering black space for text titles

Hello
Is there a way for me to enter black space so I can extend the length of my text titles? I would like to add text at the beginning of a clip, but can only get the black space by entering a "fade in video." Thank you Avo
I am using PE12 on a Mac.

Export quality grainy for TEXT / TITLE

Hello there,
Am kind of a newb, but am getting used to the basics and am happy with the video export quality. For some reason, the TITLE objects are coming out grainy, even when viewed at 100% size. I tried different output types, bitrates, changed fonts, font size, position, etc. Put black background behind, removed background, no matter what am still getting the fonts looking crappy once exported.
Some screenshots of what I see in the Premiere Pro output preview / workspace, and then a second shot showing the resulting output (same result in diff bitrates, just chose one as example)

DV is far from the best codec for text. But the real problem is that you're using FCP's built-in text generators. Instead, use the Boris Title 3D and Boris Title Crawl generators. They produce much cleaner vector-based text and have a ton of more options for creativity.

Space for video titles is too small!

Hi,
Am I missing something? The amount of space assigned to a video title is too small - for example I have 3 podcasts called
OnSoftware - Secure Coding in C and C++ with Robert Seacord - Part 1
OnSoftware - Secure Coding in C and C++ with Robert Seacord - Part 2
OnSoftware - Secure Coding in C and C++ with Robert Seacord - Part 3
The video list shows 3 videos called 'Secure Coding in C...' - how would I know which one is which?
And no, they're not in numerical order!
Is there any way to get the video title to scroll to see the rest of it?

I agree with this, hopefully well have scrolling text in the future, as per previous iPods.

Not enough space for text

I want to run a video and have text scrolling in from left under the video, not subtitles but just summary.
A text box isn't big enough and I need to 'build in' and 'out' at specific times.
Is there any way to do this. It seems that Apple shows you all the bells and whistles of the
programme but not real functionality such as this. It would also be helpful if they told you
what you cannot do.

It is quite possible to have text enter during the playing of a video - I was able to create a slide with a video that starts after a curtain opens, then have a line of text enter from left (on lower portion of video) at a few seconds after the video starts, then after a bit of time move off to the right and then another line of text enter from the left at another part of the video at a timed point and move out to the right after a bit (to allow reading the line), etc, etc. It does work.
It is done by using a single line of text at a time and controlling the first entry to start with the video with a delay of X seconds, then its build out timed to be after that build in with X second delay, etc.
Create your first line of text and then clone it (option drag) to create a new text box with the same formatting. All of the text lines are stacked on top of each other so that they all enter at the same elevation on the slide.
You have to time your entry points and exits to match the subject matter at hand in the video, but it works.
You can even have the text boxes filled with color or gradients - I suggest using some opacity, but that would be your choice. Make sure your text has enough contrast to the video, and , yes, you can overlay the text on top of the running video.
Be sure to leave enough time for the audience to read what you slip in otherwise they will not benifit from any of it.
Having said that, I'm a bit confused by your comment - "not enough room". I'm guessing you are feeling inclined to put lots of words on the screen while your audience is trying to absorbe the video and listen to any audio. Don't. My caution to you is to keep the text comments to minimimum - short phrases, key points or words, simple name of presenter on screen, etc. Leave the bulky text for a handout. You audience will appreciate the clean presentation. Just think; less is more and you will have a great slide.

Cannot enter phone number for text on imessage since ios7 download on ipad2?

since the ios7 update i cannot set up imessage with my phone# so i can text message from my ipad2. it does not ask for my phone number.
i have tried:
singing in from the icon on home page first
toggling on off the imessage switch in settings for imessage AND facetime
turning both off for 5 minutes and trying to set up again with the addition of a phone #
reseting the ipad
changing my apple password
nothing has worked
i just text at times,
I appreciate ANY advice. I refuse to Pay apple to tell me how to fix this when it is clearly due to this update.

AFter the standard screensaver kicks in, all Firefox windows go totally black except for the title bar,; only closing & restarting FF Fixes.

Windows XP SP3. This started with Firefox v.18.0. When any activity cancels the screensaver, all display returns as before, except Firefox. FF window will close using the corner "X", but no other toolbars are visible or functional. No new add-ons since the 18.0 update.

This is the closest to the problem I am seeing. When the pc wakes from sleep, some parts of the Firefox window appears black until I minimize/restore it, or close/restart it. Some parts of the window reappear if I mouse over it repeatedly. This is relatively new. I don't usually report minor problems like this unless they repeat.

Text / Titles Get Cut Off After 3 Lines?

I did some searching but couldn't find a discussion on this. When I add a Title of any kind and try to fill it with more words that fit on the screen (in vertical space) it just cuts them off at the bottom. I've attached an image that shows the third "wednesdays" text in my project and you can see it cuts off the bottom of the Y. If I add a fourth "wednesdays" you don't see it at all. Using the transform tool only stretches the text, it doesn't increase the vertical space available for more text. I am running Lion if it matters.
Has anyone found a fix for adding more vertical space for text or is this a known bug? Or am I missing something really easy?

You should turn on the TV Safe Area and make sure that everything that you care about is within this area. Anything outside the area is subject to the over-scan of TV sets.

Spaces for Zeroes

Newbie alert!
I have a simple table with 4 elements per line comprising
A: description B: value C: quantity D: (B * C)
For each line A and B have pre-set values... I enter a quantity in C and it calculates a value in D
When C (quantity) is Zero I want a 'space' in both C and D.
This works fine until I actually enter a value in C, then change my mind and enter a space...
D assumes C has a value of 1 (??)
I'm looking for a function that says something like:
If either B or C = 'space' then D = 'space' else D=B*C
I can see functions that look as if they might work but I can't figure it out
If someone can point me in the right direction i'd much appreciate it.

I'm trying to understand why you would enter a space for zero.
Yep, when i read my explanation back it sounded more complex than it really is
I'm creating a 'picking' document that will double as an invoice - having zeroes in the quantity field doesn't make quantities >0 stand out - the finished form needs to be easily scanned so that the items that need to be selected can be quickly identified.
You can Conditionally Format the cells in D such that when the result is zero the font the color will be that of the fill, making the text invisible. You can also apply a test to see what is in B and/or C and set the result to a space, some other non-visible character or a null string.
I'm going to try this route... didn't realise you could change text colour and stuff, that opens possibilities... sounds like i could change the fill colour on lines with values in so that they really stood out from the 'unselected' lines... will give it a look - cheers

Entered Domain Credentials for SQL Simple Authentication Run As Accounts

In troubleshooting an issue, I mistakenly entered a domain account under the "Data Warehouse SQL Server Authentication Account" and "Reporting SDK SQL Server Authentication Account" Simple Authentication run as configuration accounts.
I'm now trying to get them back to the way they were, blank. I found an older article for SCOM 2007 that mentions that just entering a space for the account name and password fields will get it blanked out again, this apparently doesn't work in
SCOM 2012 as it gives me "The length of the string cannot be zero. "
I think this may be contributing to my 31557 errors.
Could I just delete the two simple auth account listed under Profiles?

Creating blank space for nesting text images etc

Hi all,
I have a page where I have inputted a background image but i
need to create two areas for text and images. What is the best
method for making a white background to nest these two things?
Basically, I need to contruct a box...

You would attach the background image to the body tag so it's
visible on
every page.
You then need to decide how to layout your page... be it with
tables or
divs.
eg: Insert a table on the page, give it a white background
color (or
whatever color) center it and then add your text and or
images into the
cells as required.

path in the
styles in the head of the document to show your own

How can I enter special characters in a text title?

Hello to all!
Have been trying to get in a special character [the tick mark] onto a text title on my current project. Had gone to the special character option under EDIT menu, and added the desired special character to the 'favourite' list, but after that I do not know how to move ahead. Would like help.

Stop it from using photo black ink for black text printing and where has the color ink gone?

My HP Photosmart Prem C310 series all in one is using the Black Photo ink cartridge for text printing instead of the XL Black that I put in it for text printing. How can I get it to use the right cartridge for printing? Also, even though I have NOT printed ANY photo's and very few pages of text the new set of color cartridges I put in it a few months ago are almost empty. Why? How could they be almost empty when I have NOT printed anything in color? This is getting ridiculous replacing ink cartridges every few months WHEN I HAVE NOT BEEN PRINTING ANYTHING!!!
The set of ink cartridges that came with it lasted for several months. Since then I've gone through two sets in less than a year. That's 3 sets of ink cartridges when I have only printed 3 photo's when I first set it up. And have only used les than a 1/4 of one package of printing paper. I've only put paper in it twice. Each time it was about a 1/4 inch or 3/8 of an inch thick stack of paper in the tray. I've even tried shutting the printer down when its not being used for a long period of time but the ink is still disapearing. Where is it going? Why is it going there? How do I stop it? This is rediculous. I may as well junk the thing even though it still works because I cant aford to keep feeding it ink when its just sitting there doing nothing most of the time.

I just got another email from HP about this problem wanting to know what I found for a solution to this problem. From all of the suggestions from the HP tec support all of them pretty much kept saying the same thing. That it is my fault that it's using so much ink because I have it on the wrong settings. One tec did slip and say that it doesn't matter what settings you have it on it will always use the Photo Black cartridge for printing plain black text and it doesn't matter if you have a X-Large Black cartridge in it for text printing because it was made to always use the Photo Black for text and even use some of the colors to blend with the black to make it stand out. Why anybody would need this when just printing shipping labels and things like that I don't know.
Any who, The only solution for this problem is,,,, junk the printer and get a different brand & model of printer. Research it before buying to find out how much ink it wants to waste and if it will still print black text if it only has a black cartridge in it. I was going to get rid of mine by giving it to a friend since they don't have a printer. But since I want to keep him as a friend I decided not to give it to him. Since it cant be traded in for a different one even though it still works, Its going to the target shooting range the next time I go out shooting. Maybe I'll take a few video's clips of it getting blasted to pieces with a Ruger 10-22 .22 cal. rifle with 25 shot clips, a Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle shooting .223 cal with a 30 shot clip, a Chinese SKS 7.62 with a 30 shot clip. And maybe use my Ruger P89 9mm pistol and put a couple 15 round clips of 9mm in it. If there's anything left I'll finish it off with a few 3" magnum loads of #2 steel shot with my 20 gauge shotgun. Then I think I'll do the same thing to my Westinghouse 46" flat screen HDTV that just died.
Then maybe I'll come back and post the video's of my "solution to this printers problem". It may not fix the problem, but it will be an entertaining way of getting rid of the problem.

Substituting a Value for text entered in a cell

I'm currently working on a Spreadsheet for a friend who is a teacher. She wants to track all the children in her school as they achieve various grades in their classes. I made the following sheet that allows her to add each child and then just put a 1 in the appropriate cell when they achieve each grade. I'm using conditional formatting to fill in the boxes when a 1 is entered.

She was very happy with what I had made but she then told me she would like to be able to enter the date the child achieved the grade so she could track the time period of their progress. As you can see above the formulae all rely on the cells containing a 1. So how do I make numbers return a value of 1 for any content put in the cell? Is there a way of doing this using an if statement?
PS) The last three columns of the first table are normally hidden from view for neatness.

Instead of entering a 1 for the grade, why not enter the date. Then instead of adding 1's to get the level, use COUNT(E1:I1). Condition your cell fill to "not equal to 0" and leave the text option unchecked. That way the date will show through the background.
