Entering CDDB info for untitled tracks

I have been working with a local band to make some demo CD's. All of the tracks on the CD are listed as: track1, track2, etc... Can I use iTunes to encode track information such as song title, album, etc... Or will I need a 3rd party solution?

Umm... I don't think Linux Grip going to help. On any other software, either.
If I understand the situation correctly, you want to burn an AUDIO CD that can be played in any CD player, including car and home stereo players, right?
And you want anyone who gets one of your demo CDs to be able to put it into a computer and see the title tracks, artist, etc, right?
I'm no expert, so I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the problem that is going to prevent you from doing that is this: The specifications for Standard audio CDs does not have any mechanism to encode that information on the CD - not allowed - no can do. It's got nothing to do with what hardware or software you use to make the audio CD, but rather with the accepted definition of "audio CD" (as described by the "Red Book" specifications). As far as I know, there are only two ways to get around this limitation of audio CDs:
1. Burn a non-standard CD. If you burn the music on a DATA CD (CD-ROM) or MP3 CD, then computer users can easily see your track titles/artist/etc; however there will be many home stereo and car stereo CD players that will not be able to play the music at all.
2. Upload the information to an online data base like Gracenote CDDB so internet connected computers can retrieve the track titles, artist, etc.
There is also something called CD Text which does encode some track title/artist information on the disc, but I believe that info is displayed only by certain hardware - usually car CD players and DVD players, but not computers. I don't know if you can add CD Text to home-burned CDs, but services which make commercial discs can do this for you.

Unable to Edit Title/Album Song Info on Untitled Tracks

Hello, I'm having some difficulty with my iTunes. I have dozens of songs that I have imported from old CD's, but when I click Get Info, the Info section is grayed-out and will not let me edit the songs' names, CD, artist, etc.
I have tried using the Get Track Names. When I do, I get a pop-up stating: "CDDB info not available for some of these items." I have also made sure that my iTunes folder and the folders within have the Read-Only option unchecked. This is really getting on my nerves and would appreciate any advice for why I can't edit my songs.

Cannot select Get Info for multiple tracks

I just updated to Lion 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.6.1 and imported my Leopard iTunes Library. I can Get Info on individual tracks but when I shift select or command select multiple tracks the iTunes window turns gray and nothing can be selected. iTunes just freezes until I press the Escape key. So far, everything else works as expected - the only problem is selecting multiple tracks (which worked fine for me on previous OS and iTunes versions).
I haven't found any reports of similar problems so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Any suggestions?

I solved my own problem - the last time I used iTunes was on a two monitor system. I still have the second monitor connected but it was turned off and the iTunes Get Info window for MULTIPLE selected items was opening on the second monitor. When I did a Get Info on a single selection, the window appeared on the main monitor normally - behavior which never made me think that multiple items would show up in a different window on the turned off monitor.

How do I re-enter login info for web sites into the auto fill feature?

When I first got my iPhone 4 I was asked if I wanted to save the login info for the sites I need to visit. This was very convenient. But Inhad to change some passwords and clear cookies and now I have to manually re-enter the info again and again. How can I set it up so when I go to the 3 or 4 sites that I need to constantly visit already has he login info entered? When I go to Autofill it has a switch for passwords but no way to set them up. Help. I am spending half my day reentering login info again and again.

You could try going into settings, Safari, auto fill then turn on names and passwords.

Can't enter/change info for songs...

I can change the info for some of my songs but not for most of them. Why is this?

Check that the problem files are not read only.
If they are MP3s, there can sometime be problems with tag versions. Try selecting a track and right click on it. Select Convert ID3 tags. Try converting to none. It might be as well to experiment with a copy.
Otherwise check the permissions on your music folder, but if this was a problem I would expect everything to be affected.
Your account needs full control of any music folder.

Entering Correct info for VPN connection

please suggest the correct configuration for entering information in order for my laptop to connect via VPN to my newly installed Leopard Server software. On my laptop, I have entered the following info on the System Preferences> network tab...
Configuration: Default
Server Address: 76.173.xx.xxx (my public IP address - do I need anything else?)
Account name: XXXXXX (same as the account name in Server)
under Authentication Settings, my password is fine and my shared secret is the same as on the Server.
Am I entering in everything correctly? i am most concerned as to how the server address is supposed to be written. thanks!!

If Appletalk is enabled server side and you simply enter the IP address afp is assumed as the protocol to be used. If you prefer the extra effort involved in typing afp:// followed by the IP address you can use that as well. If you want to use the smb service rather than afp simply type smb://followed by the IP address. The same thing applies to ftp services. The Finder supports reads only for ftp services.
If you are using VPN services you simply type in the private IP (LAN-side) address of the server rather than the public IP (WAN-side) address. Once a VPN connection has been established, the remote client behaves as if it is on the same LAN.
You can make a connection using the Public WAN address if you enable port forwarding to a single LAN IP address for services you are interested in. For example if you wanted to access your server remotely using afp you configure your router to forward requests for port 548 to the internal IP address of your server. You can use this method for as many services you like as well as how many your router supports. Most commercially available routers support 10-20. Depending on the router you may have to configure an appropriate firewall rule as well. When faced with that it makes more sense to use a single VPN connection.
I may be in danger of teaching granny to suck eggs but for what its worth for VPN connections to work successfully the remote client’s private IP address has to be different from the host site. For example if the remote site is on 192.168.1.x/24 as is the server then you won’t establish a connection. As far as the remote site is concerned its already connected to that network, why look elsewhere? 192.168.1.x/24 to 192.168.2.x/24 or 10.10.10.x/24 to 192.168.0.x/24 should result in successful VPN connections.

Cannot enter withholdings info for Pennsylvania using IT0210

Hi- If I try to create a state withholdings record for Pennsylvania (subtype PA on IT0210) for an employee, the "Filing status" and "Allowances" fields are greyed out and have zeros in them. Not sure why this is...is there something special about Pennsylvania where these fields should always be zero? I do not have this issue for any other state. Please advise- thanks!

check the Return values.In this feature the return value would be subfeature PAYS1
Step 2.
Goto to the feature PAYS1 and check the return value for pennsylvania.
Step 3.
Goto the screen modifications T588m and check screen with variable key mentioned in the feature for Pennsylvania in PAYS1 feature.

Want to update info for entire album

When info for a CD that I upload isn't available I have been entering the Album Name and genre track by track. Is there a way to enter this once for all tracks. Thanks.

Hey there,
You can highlight the entire album in your iTunes library (or groups of songs for that matter) by holding down the Shift button to select multiple tracks or hold down the Control button and select the songs you would like to edit together and do the usual control->click "Get Info" from the menu. Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

On my 1st visit to a certain website, Firefox _very briefly_ asked whether to remember my username and password. I was too slow: the dialog bar disappeared and now, I cannot find where to enter that logon info for my daily returns to that site.

On only the very first visit to a website, Firefox _very briefly_ shows a "Do you want Firefox to remember this password?" dialog bar at top right of screen.
The first time that I used Firefox to access this particular, and very often visited site, I missed that dialog bar. It disappeared before I had a chance to mark any one of the three boxes and now, I must enter my log-in information anew at every log-on to that site.
There _must_ be a way to get Firefox to give me a second chance for entering this info, but I cannot find how.

After first closing the site's browser window, I cleared the cookies with no problem.
Next, I opened up the page that is causing my problem. The Microsoft Security window opened up as it should and it was blank.
The option of whether I was using a public or a private
computer was blinking on 'public' as it should and I changed that to 'private'.
The lines for 'Domain/Username' and 'Password" were blank, as they should be at this time.
I entered whatever I had to on these two lines, then clicked on "log In". At no time, however, did the Firefox toolbar at top of screen (picture file attached) appear and ask whether to remember that password. Yes, the page now opened - and we are back to Square One.
I am aware that when entering the URL in the address box, a dropdown box opens and contains quite a few URLs identical to the one I am entering just now, or at least connected to pages of the same site.
I am wondering whether that is what's messing me up? But how can I clear these entries of "websites visited in the past from Firefox's memory?

Scenario: User enters some info, I only want to be able to see it for 3 day

User will be able to go to a site and enter some info, lets say its like a singles add. After the user submits, I only want the ad to show for 32 hours.
How would i go about flagging the record. I couldnt possibly run a program constantly checking the database for old records. Does anyone have any ideas on this.

Yes I am saving creation date. The only thing that I am confused on is flagging the record when the date is considered old. DO i have to constantly run a program checking for old dates? What if i run this program every minute. What happens if the data is crucial and if its an old date , it shouldnt even show for the minute in which the purge program hasnt run yet.
My example used hours, but what about using minutes and seconds.
I guess could add lets say 32 hours, 5 minutes to the creation date in the file. If its greater than now, dont show. Then run a purge program every couple of hours to get rid of the old data to speed up processing.
I think I just figured this out, but I am willing for any more input.

Entering tablature for audio track in Logic Express 9

Hi,
When recording an audio track in Logic Express 9, I'd like to manually enter tablature for the recorded piece. After reading the manual and some tweaking, I still have a couple of questions about this:
1. It seems one can only enter tablature for midi tracks, so I end up adding a fake midi track, muting it, then entering tablature on that midi track. Is there an easier approach?
2. Is there a way to enter whole chords at once in the tab track instead of first having to enter each note of a chord separately, then copy/pasting that chord to all places I need it? (I know one can add chord symbols, but these are just text symbols that do not have rhythm notation.)
3. It seems that the tablature editor in Logic Express supports only a limited number of fingerings, i.e., one cannot add a note on the 6th fret of the 6th string, as this is automatically turned into the 1st fret on the 5th string. Can this be changed?

To answer your questions,
1. I'm sorry, but there is no easier way. Since the "audio to score" function (where you let Logic interpret the notes in the audio and makes midi out of it) hasn't fully matured yet, I don't think there's an easier approach.
2. In the environment you can add a chord memorizer. With this function you can Logic tell to put in a (for instance) C-chord when you hit just the C-note on your midi keyboard. Since I used this function just once and I'm not anywhere close to a Mac with Logic I can't tell exactly how this works right now.
3. You can change the position of a note on the tablature by changing the note's MIDI channel (in the inspector).

How to make iTunes forget the CDDB info and reread from Gracenote ?

I have some CD which have 2 entries in Gracenote. (These are Chinese CDs, and Gracenote has 2 set of info, one in Chinese and another in English). I picked the English one, and it populated the tags, but now I want to use the Chinese information instead.
Removing all the tracks of the CD and reinserting the CD does not work, iTunes simply picks up the info that was already stored in "CD Info.cidb".
How can I get iTunes to query Gracenote again ? I suppose an ability to remove the CD's entry from CD INFO.cidb would also cause a requery, but I have no method to edit the cidb file.

You can also force iTunes to (re-)look for specific tracks by selecting the tracks in iTunes and selecting "Get CD Track Names" from the Advanced menu. As long as iTunes imported the tracks from a commercial CD, it should be able to go look for CDDB data again. I don't have any tracks that had dual-CDDB entries, so I can't test to see if it gives you the choice to choose the other set of tags.

How do you enter RELEASE DATE for your albums in i-Tunes?

I can see the column titles Release Date but I don't know how to enter the information. Does anyog know how to?

Welcome to the Apple Discussion forums.
If you click on any tune, and then hit command+I, you will get the information for the track. Click on the "Info" tab in this pop-up window and you will see there is a place to enter Date.
You can put whatever date you want to in here. I try to put release dates in this box myself, for music I did not buy from the iTunes Music Store. For example, right now I am looking at a Thelonius Monk track from Live at the Jazz Workshop that was released in 1964, and so I've labelled it as 1964 in the date field.

How can I quickly get the same album art for all tracks on an album without manually doing them one at a time?

I am having trouble with album art linked to each track. My library is ripped from my own cd's and ITunes only provides some of the artwork from a find artwork search. The rest must be found and added one at a time manually from web. This process is tedious and time consuming for me. Is there a file in iTunes related to each album that I can just drop the art once and it shows up linked to all the tracks from that album when they play? I've tried selecting all songs from an album and dragging the artwork to the artwork window once in hopes of all tracks getting the artwork at the same time with no luck. Any advice for this paltry artwork dilemma would be appreciated. If Cassidy & Greene still owned this ******* child of SoundJam I know I would not be having this problem! Thx 4 quick reply alexbird. Your method will work and after a little experimenting so will this: Just go to the album art view option and highlight the album you want artwork for. Drag the artwork from your album art web search page to bottom left hand album art window in iTunes and just drop it there. A small progress window then appears showing each album track adopting the dropped artwork one by one. It only takes 10-15 seconds for all of the tracks on your album to adopt the new artwork. I then went back and removed unwanted artwork(from the albums that had it) track by track from the get info menu. This goes pretty quick as you just pick track>get info>artwork>highlight art>delete>ok for each track.
This drag/drop to the album art view page has been the simplest and most effective way I have discovered to manually import album artwork into iTunes so far. Hope this helps someone else out there. Any other methods or suggestions to do this task added to this thread will be duly noted. Thx... Oh, I am currently using iTunes 10.5.1
