Entering text in a photo in Elements 11
WhenI try to insert text in a photo, in PS Elements 11, I get a small book icon, but cannot go further . Whaat am I doing wrong?
Barbara B:
Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, I cannot do a screen grab of the icon because if I try anything it disappears, I realize that it is always easier to work with something if you have a visual, but I'll have to try without it. I am probably doing, or not doing something incredibly simple. However, I have searched all manner of online help, both text and video without result.
Let me explain what I am doing. I have constructed a cover for my book, which will be put into e-book format and have reached the point where I need to put in the title and author. Let me explain my actions, and perhaps this will help.
I have the image open in SEE 111 and I click on the horizontal type tool. Then, when I place the cursor on the image I get a very small rendition of what looks like an open book, drawn in small dots. This small image persists as I move it both on the image and outside.
If I left click I get on the image a small square point over the box with the green check and the cancel sign, A the same time I get a text layer in the layer panel.Clicking the green check mark removes the check mark box, the white square dot and the text layer in the layers panel.
This has been frustrating me to the point where I have considered reinstalling the program, but I have restrained myself in the belief that the problem lies with me.
I hope that you can make sense of this.
Sincerely,
John

Cannot enter text in Elements 11 after installing PS CC and LR 5
After downloading installing PhotoShop CC and LightRoom 5, I cannot enter text in PS Elements 11. I get the message that "something prevented the text engine from being initialized."
How do I correct this?Did you reboot the machine after installing the new applications? In windows 7 and Windows 8 it is almost always required to reboot the machine. sometimes it does it automatically but sometimes it doesn't but it is a good idea to manually RESTART the machine.
Hope this helps. -
How to change a 4x6 photo to a 8x10 photo in elements 11
how do you change a 4x6 photo to a 5x10 photo in elements 11
You can't without severe distortion, since the aspect ratios of these dimensions (4x6 & 8x10) are at variance.
Depending on the picture, you may be able to crop the 4x6 to 4x5 without losing important information, utilizing the crop tool.
If this works for you, then go to Image>Resize>Image size, and enter w=10, h=8, check constrain proportions and resample image.
Depending on the resolution of the image, you may see pixellation with this degree of magnification. For printing, it is desirable to have the resolution in the 240-300px/in range; for web work 72px/in is ok.
An alternative is to open a new, blank file with dimensions 8x10 and with the same resolution value as that of the 4x6 picture file, then copy/paste the 4x6 on the blank file. It will not be a symmetrical fit, but you can position it with the move tool off center and perhaps add something else (?text) to minimize the distraction. -
Entering Message when Sharing Photos via E-mail
Just loaded PS Elements v11. Have used PS Elements v7-9 previously. When sharing photos using e-mail (comcast.net) as attachments and photo mail, I was able to enter a message to recipient before sending the e-mail. In Elements 11, in area where text can be entered, I cannot get a cursor to type a message. The phrase, Here are photos....., is embedded there and can't even erase. Area is frozen to using a cursor. Sending the e-mail is no problem. Would appreciate help so I can start sharing photos. Thank you.
I think there is some kind of scripting bug in PSE11 when sharing photos by email but there is a work around.
Select your thumbnails and click Share >> Photomail
Then choose your contact and continue.
After choosing stationery, click next step.
In the next dialog (customize & layout) click on the text dropdown and change from Arial to Times New Roman (may not be essential but it works for me).
Then click next.
When the email appears you should now be able to select (click until a bounding box appears around the text like that of a picture) and delete all the Adobe automatic text, leaving only the photo(s). Delete the web link and text below the photo using the backspace key. You should now be able to add your own text.
Then hit send.
I can’t guarantee it will work on your system but it works on windows Vista and it’s worth trying. -
This has happened on the last few versions of firefox, as long as canvas has been supported. I see other people's screen shots from canvas tutorials, and the text always looks normal. On my system, any text put into a canvas element via context.fillText() will have a black bounding box for each letter, sized appropriately for the letter. If the text is black, of course you only see rectangles. If the text is a contrasting color, then you can read it, but it looks bizarre.
Thomas...same kind of crap here.
I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
Set to 72 pt.
The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
Using Transform will not sort it! -
Adding text to a photo in iPhoto 08
New to Mac and iPhoto and while laying out a birth announcmnet I wanted to add text on top f the phots to places the Apple card templates didn't allow. Is there a way to add text to a photo in iPhoto? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't with iPhoto. You'll need a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements for Mac which can add text in a variety of ways and do advanced editing. PSE is the consumer version of the pro Photoshop and has about 80% of it's capabilities at 1/7 the price. There are other editors available that can do the job. Go to VersionTracker.com and search for image editor. You'll get a number of possibilities.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -

Adding Text to a photo...Need help
I'm new to Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. I'm following the instructions for adding text to a photo, but I can't see what I'm typing. I can see the cursur, but nothing else. I can see the text in the Layer, but not on the photo. Please help.
Check the font size in the options bar. If it's really small you won't see it.
Look in your layer's palette and insure your text is in a layer located above the photo in the stack.
You might also check your image's resolution in the Image Size dialog. I've seen a couple of posts where someone changes the resolution to 1 with resample turned off...then can't see the text because it's too small even when they have large numbers inserted in the font size box. -
How do I enter text onto a PDF and have it automatically update in an Indesign file?
I am trying to enter text into an application form and then include the updated application into an extended indesign file. I would like to be able to change elements of the application, which would then automatically update in the Indesign file. I am having trouble doing this.
I received an application in PDF and want to fill it out with my personal text, but I would also like to include supplemental documents with the application and thus have placed the PDF and the other documents it into an Indesign file. If I were to change some portion of the personal text in the PDF, it would be great if it could automatically update in the Indesign file. How else would you suggest I go about doing this?
Thanks! -
i'm currently trying to make a simple cd cover using iPhoto to add to itunes. Is there any way i could add text to a photo that i have in the iPhoto library?
The Preview method puts the text in a box with a yellow background. If that's not what you want, I suggest you look at a number of 3rd party image editor. The best, IMO, is Photoshop Elements for Mac. It not only can do text on photos, it can curve the text and do other advanced editing. Amazon.com often has deals on it for around $80.
There's also GraphicConverter and others. Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for "image editor" to get a number of candidates.
You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
WHen using Message, I,can't access the text box by tapping. Address and photos can be entered, but no Message. Is this a tactile problem?
If you are able to type text in emails, documents and any other areas where text can be input, I don't see how this could be a tactile problem. Are you able to enter text elsewhere?
Did you try rotating the iPad in different directions to make sure that you don't have a problem with a particular part of the screen? Did you try closing the Messages app completely and start over again? Any other information that you can provide?
In in the meantime, try a reset. This fixes some really weird unexplainable problems.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
How can i put text across a photo?
how can i put text across a photo?
You'll need an external editor for that:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto. -

Installed Photo Shop element 12 about 4 months ago. got a virus via a email, Photo shop wouldn't work so I uninstalled. I have the disc and SN. Am trying to put on same computer. After I enter the SN it says it is invalid. I'm thinking I need someone to release the license so I can reinstall?
You need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

How can I add text to a photo?
Is there a way in iPhoto to add text directly to a photo being edited? With my old PC I was able to add text with Microsoft dicital image suite software. Thanks.........Allen
Adding text to a photo is not a feature of iPhoto.
You can do it with
Preview - already on your machine
BorderFX - a free plug-in. (http://www.iborderfx.com/iborderfx/)
or an external editor.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)

Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
