Hi Benake,
Enterprise Content Management is a concept and if I understand correctly SAP provides a set of tools to manage it.( Refer to wikipedia for a broad overview on EnterpriseContentManagement).
For example the SAP portal is a tool where your content is displayed. You can set up the SAP content servers to store and retrieve the content. You use the trex search functionality to search your content. In short it is a brief set of tools that  SAP provides,

  • Enterprise content Management

    Dear Friends,
Enterprise content Management is part of portal. But is it part of SAP DMS module.
I have confusion that a SAP DMS consultant should know SAP Enterprise content management.
As I know A SAP DMS consultant should have knowledge of Web DMS, Easy DMS. So in same way is it necessary to have knowledge of SAP ECM.
    With Warm Regard

    Hi Mangesh,
Enterprise content management is a systematic approach via a set of tools/methods that enable an enterprise/organization to capture, organize, store and deliver information crucial to its operations. This can be via solutions like SAP DMS,SAP Arhcivelink,SAP Enterprise portal,Open Text,Records Management Sytems,Documentum,Livelink et-al.
Document Management has some overlap with the concepts of other types of Content Management and is often viewed as a component of Enterprise Content Management Systems.
Coming back to your question, SAP EP/DMS are themselves components of  Enterprise content management system.
P.S. ECM in SAP parlance stands for Engineering Change Mangement.

ECM is one of the fastest growing areas in the industry - Sun has not embraced this but Oracle, IBM, EMC and Microsoft are seeing huge growth and expect it to continue for years to come. Bottom line unstructured data is difficult to manage = opportunity.
ECM specialists are very hard to come by these days, I know of many organizations who just cannot recruit high quality staff (both vendors and end users).
Frankly if you had skills in any of the above today you would have your pick of job's and a good rate to go with it.

  • Integrate Siebel eService (8.0) with Oracle  Enterprise Content Management

We are planning to integrate Siebel eService (8.0.0.10) with Oracle Enterprise Content Management. Has anybody did this integration in past and give us some suggestions.

    Hi,
Oracle SQL Net Connect String is the entry in TNSNAME.ORA file which identifies your Oracle Database SID.
    e.g.
    ORCL_SBA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = host.com)
    (PORT = 1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL_SBA)
Here, the Oracle SQL Net Connect String is: ORCL_SBA. Net Connect String is utilized to directly connect with the Database, without any Driver being interfaced in between.
While, ODBC DSN is a all together different stuff. You create ODBC DSN using "Data Sources (ODBC)" Utility under Administrative Tools. Here you need to specify a Driver to Connect to the Database, which should be the Siebel Oracle Driver Provided by DataDirect Technology.
    Hope this clears your confusion.
Oracle SQL Net Connect String & ODBC DSN are two different stuff, used for different reasons.
As Robert said, you need to read the Installation Guide more thoroughly for understanding the nuances of Siebel Installation.
    Thanks,
    Shalabhsneha

  • Implementing "Open Text" ECM (Enterprise Content Management)

    Experts,
My company is implementing Open Text ECM for AP process automation (ex: procure to pay). Can anyone explain the role of an FICO/ABAPer in this scenario.
    NW

    Hello,
Our company uses IXOS(now Open Text)  for some AP process automation.  At our site the invlovelment of an ABAP developer is limited.   Some custom reports were written to provide certain audit functions(eg show scanned and barcoded documents that have not been linked to an SAP document).  There is also a workflow component, although this is quite small and is really just the implementaion of an SAP delivered workflow.   The other thing that I (as an ABAP develper ) am involved in is server administration for the archive server.   Not so much the physical server as the archive server applciation. I have also been involved in client software installation and configuration( viewer and scan clients).
To sum up, in my experience there has not been that much pure ABAP work involved.  However, the support of this application sort of falls into a 'grey' area in our company.  It is not really SAP functional and not purely server administration.  Perhaps  'cross functional' may be a good word.  The bottom line was tha no one knew who to get to support it so they gave it to an ABAP developer.
Hope that helps a bit.  I know your experience wiil probably be different.
    Regards
    Greg Kern.

  • Content Management Roles in SAP

    Hello Everyone,
There are three Content Management Roles provided by SAP, but when we search for these roles in User Administration -> Roles,  only one Content Management role is shown up. Can anyone explain ??

    Hello,
If u search for "Content Manager" in  the search tab under Content Administration role, u'll b able to see 3 Content Manager roles as follows:
Content Manager with PCD Location   "pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/specialist/com.sap.km.ContentManager/com.sap.km.ContentManager"
    Content Manager with PCD Location
    "pcd:portal_content/specialist/contentmanager/ContentManager"
Content Manager with PCD Location "pcd:portal_content/specialist/contentmanager/com.sap.km.ContentManager"
But if u do the same search in User Administration -> Roles, only one Content Manager role with PCD location "pcd:portal_content/specialist/contentmanager" is shown up. This was what I meant.
    Any idea on the same?

    Hi All,
What is T- approch in enterprise content management? Please throw some light on it.
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

    Hi,
Its somthing like Use the combined power of a horizontal and a vertical solution !
    Knowledge Management (KM) with
    SAP NetWeaverTM–
The horizontal solution and the PLM Document Management
    System (DMS) –
The vertical solution. It becomes T- approach if it KM connect with DMS by dms connectors.

  • Enterprise Compensation Management Info Cube

SAP BI contains a special enterprise compensation management InfoCube and queries that can be used to analyze all compensation data in detail. Now, if one has to use R/3 4.6C for the backend compensation management, can this InfoCube (using BW 3.5 on NW '04) be leveraged?...or, does the back-end have to be upgraded to the '04 Business Suite level?
Quick response from someone who has done it or from SAP will be highly appreciated!!!

    Bryan,
Great response. One last question: The comment you have made about what we get with "BI Content 3.5.1 (same as BI Content 3.3 Add-on)" in terms of the "1 InfoCube, enabling the evaluation of LTI awards" is of particular interest to us. To leverage this BI content, what should be in the back end? In other words, can I leverage this BI business content using R/3 4.6C in the backend or will I need to upgrade to mySAP ERP (NW '04) and mySAP HCM?

  • Problem with CRM Content Management

    Hi all,
I'm trying to specify a default folder template to use in business transactions, in order to show a default path in "Attachments" tab.
I have configurated my template folder using the following IMG path:
    CRM-Basic Functions-Content Management-Define Templates for Folders.
Now I suppose that I have to assign this template to a business object (for example, BUS2000111) in similar way as when I assign a folder path to a business partner role (CRM-Master Data-Business Partner-Basic Settings-Assign Templates for Content Management Folder to BP Roles).
The problem is that I can't find the exact customizing point to do this.
It's neccesary for the described configuration use the Document Modeler Workbench (DMWB)?
It's possible to configure a default folder for business transactions or it's only a business partners or products feature?
    Could anybody help me please?

    Hi All
Content management fucntions are also available in PCUI on the attachmenst tab page.Integration with the archive link functionality. In customizing, you can define which documentation for the approriate business object is linked to the archive link fucntion. In Customizing select web application server >basis services >arachive link additionaly also you can create archive links documents from contentv management.Usage of filter profiles allows you to specify which documents are to be transferred.
    For technical information on content management go to help.sap.com>sap netweaver>web appl.server>basis services/communication interfaces(BC-SRV)>Knowledge provider(BC-SRV-KPR)>Content Management service(BC-SRV-KPR)
