Enterprise DQ - hardware and sizing question

Hi, we are considering implementing Oracle Enterprise Data Quality (all components) and would like to know the hardware (memory, number of CPU's, etc.) sizing parameters/requirements for this software.  Obviously, data volumes are a key factor.  I'm hoping someone in this community can indicate the "hardware" size they have implemented DQ on and if there are any concerns/issues that, if not considered, can have an adverse impact on the performance and operation of this software stack.
Thank you.
Brian.

  • Oracle hardware and storage solution configuration questions

    Hi all,
I am configuring hardware and the storage solution for a project and am hoping to have some questions answered about using Oracle as the storage solution.
The current setup will have 2 Dell NX3100 NAS gateways each with dual quad core processors, 24GB of RAM, 12x2TB data disks, and running Windows Storage Server 2008 64bit as the OS.
Will also have direct attached storage of 2 Dell PowerVault MD1200 disk arrays, each disk array with 12 x 2Terabyte SAS disk drives giving a total of 36TB of storage space for each NAS Gateway.
Based on this information, is there any problem with two Oracle Standard Edition installation (1 per NAS) holding up to 36TB of data (mostly high res images) in this hardware configuration?
Does Oracle have a built in solution for replicating data between the 2 NAS heads and down to the disk arrays? Where the application sever will write to one of the NAS+disk arrays and then that data is written from the first NAS to the 2nd NAS+disk array? Currently I've used DoubleTake in other projects but am wondering if Oracle has something similar that is built in.
Finally, will Backup Exec Oracle agent work with this configuration for backing up the data to a Dell PowerVault ML6020 Tape backup device?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hi, i want to buy a licence of Creative Cloud, but i have one question... Whats the best choose for a little enterprise?? And if i buy a Single Person Licence, on how many pc's can i install the suite??
    Thanks for helping

    no, that's incorrect.
you can activate on 1 mac and 1 pc, or 2 pc's, or 2 mac's, concurrently.
i have cc installed on 2 pcs and 1 mac.  i can only activate 2 at any one time which works well for me because my pcs are at home and my office and i use them most of the time.
but when i travel i take my macbook so i just deactivate one or both of my pcs (uninstalling is not needed) and sign in to my macs cc app.

  • Structured Authroing: Enterprise Acceptance, Education, and PM?

After some unusual experiences with a recent structured FM project, I wanted to turn to a community of peers to learn if others have experienced similar situations and what advice you might offer, if you have. Here is the background of the situation:
I was hired by a high-tech company to update a techincal manual almost two years ago. The company had about 6 to 10 very long internal engineering and customer-facing documents, almost all of which had been managed with LaTex for years. In an attempt to improve their documentation process, their former graphic designer/technical writer had migrated the documentation for their flagship product to InDesign. That decision wasn't too practical, as it was a 200+ page hardware and software user guide for a telecom device, something not well suited for a layout program. After taking care of their short-term needs with updates in ID, I explained the benefits of structured authoring to the project supervisor and subsequently my contract was extended to migrate all of their documentation to structured FM. This process went extremely well, largely because I was given a great deal of autonomy due to my experience in such projects.I wrote a custom EDD and templates that could be applied to all documentation and successfully migrated their legacy documents.
After that phase of the project ended, though, I found it very hard to properly manage their documentation needs, largely because of their ignorance and unwillingness to understand some of the basic needs related to structured authoring. I had made a concerted effort to educate them about structured FM all throughtout the migration, but my overworked supervisor considered my detailed reports as "too much information." Somewhere along the way, I believe she came to think of structured FM as a magic bullet of some sort and my explanations became misinterpreted as some sort of waffling, incompetence, or an attempt to pad hours. Really what my requests consisted of were nothing more than a development cycle that preceeded editing, a period that would allow me to manage any EDD work. It should be noted that the document in question was updated in parallel with a software release schedule of approximately 6 months and the management of this document alone was a full-time job for my predecessor. I reduced this process to a cycle of approximately 2 to 4 months per year, largely through the benefits of structured authoring that I don't need to detail here. Problems really began occurring when sales people and management started requesting last-minute, wholesale changes to the documents only weeks before deadlines, changes which required significant changes to the EDD. In my last deadline I received 200 marked-up pages of graphic and content changes two weeks before deadline while I was finalizing release notes and last-minute work. To get these changes done, I ramrodded them through and destroyed the structure of the documents and then had to go back and fix them thereafter. More specifically, I requested two weeks to rewrite the EDD and reauthor the 200+ page document and was confronted with increduility that it could takes so long -- and it was demanded that I complete it in a matter of days. I was actually told to make the "structure" of the document simpler, because "it's just a simple XML file after all" This company obviously had larger problems with their production processes and I was given no authority to change them, but I still find it difficult to grasp what I came up against in terms of acceptance, education, and management realted to structured management project requirements, especially when I explained it in such clear terms.
Certainly I would like to hear from anyone who cares to comment on the details of my experience. But more universally, I wonder if such obstacles are commonplace in your experience -- this was the first time I have come up against them. Also, when it comes to project estimation related to writing EDDs and doing development work, could you share your methodologies for coming up with timelines?
    Thanks in advance,
    Douglas

Just these brief insights into your own experiences have confirmed to me that I managed the work properly and the issue had everything to do with shortcomings in processes and a lack of understanding regarding structured FM.
I used to work as an editor at an IT trade publication and no matter what enterprise technology I was covering, the experts/vendors in the field who discussed IT implementations for varying companies would always underscore how the success of a project hinged upon the client's understanding and participation in that implementation. I think that adopting structured FM is no different in that regard. Moreover, if a lot of FM users have trouble wrapping their head around the concept of structured authoring and it takes years for a FM developer to really build serious chops, it only stands to reason that someone whose depth of experience with publishing is MS Word will probably have trouble digesting the big picture. Also worth noting is that, at least in my case working in the IT industry, are often IT nerds, who are frequently brilliant but won't always readily admit when they don't understand something.
This whole experience has given me a different perspective on what I need to do to evangelize and educate on structured authoring in future projects. The demands that I was given were so ludicrous in this project that I described, that I resigned after delivering documentation for the software release. Sad to have had to have done it for these reasons of ignorance rather than issues with the quality of my work, but it underscores how problems with adoption alone can impact a project.
A funny anecdote related to this aftermath...so simple does the project manager think structured FM that I learned she tasked the company's graphic designer with ownership of these now mangled templates/EDD - he has never even opened FM. Given the fact that even as an experienced FM user I am constantly confronted with bugs, difficulties, and frustrations with things like propagating formatting, TOC generation, or book numbering, I can only imagine what this guy is going to face. Ultimately, though, I think it will force them to confront the reality of structured authoring. Maybe this should become my horror story in future projects to underscore the importance of a holistic approach with this work. Sometimes you learn the most from such bad experiences.

  • Performance-testing-videos and general questions

    Hey,
I've been trying to evaluate if it would be reasonable to use the packager for developing commercial products.
I would like to show you some videos of my results.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsprSZY-HEM   --> iPhone/iPod
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJNcz58690c   --> iPhone/iPod
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hH3vnhOWcs  --> iPad
From my prespective this seems the maximum that can be done with the packager concerning performance.
-There are 3 parallax scrolling background layers.
    -Scrolling is somewhat smooth
-Performance is ok, gameplay in the demos doesn't feel sticky.
-no slowdowns for up to max 30 enemy sprites on screen.
    - basic pixel based collision with an image is possible - though only for 2-3 sprites registered for collision at the same time.
I am not a very profound programmer and i am sure a lot of my code could be optimized.
What I would like to ask is:
    1) Has somebody been able to squeeze more out of the packager?
    2) Since packager apps have problems with multitasking on iOS and strategies to save and restore the apps state on reload/focus seem buggy - would it be professional to produce apps with the packager?
    3) If you start (and stop) several different packager Apps the device performance (iPhone/iPad) will come to a grinding halt because of memory issues when multitasking. So the question would again be, can you sell software that will only perform under certain circumstances?
Those of you who have Apps in the store, have there been any negative comments on those issues?
    Please comment freely.
    Thanks,
    Simon

in my opinion, flash is a viable option only if the application being developped
    1. is not graphic, memory or cpu intensive
    2. is trying to get rapid deployment into ios/android/wm7 market with relative ease
    3. relative easier programming/graphical UI (Flash much more user friendly than xcode)
then yes flash is your solution.
However the 1. thing varies greatly on hardware and what your app can achieve. the bottom line is that apps in flash are and will always be slower than native apps merely because it launches a flash player to run your app. hopefully next update can address the issue with performance rather than an API update pack.
I would rather have better performance.

  • Multiple crashes fixed by turning off hardware and Flash acceleration; very slow now. Takes five seconds to exit and still listed as a running process

A workaround was suggested by a member of the community to turn off both hardware and Flash acceleration. It worked fine (no crashes since), but runs very slowly. In particular, takes five seconds to exit and is often still listed as a running process. Very slow in connecting to Web pages, and very slow loading them because of the graphics. Very slow in loading video. I expected slower responses, but this is REALLY slow. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and an Nvidia GE Force 7800 graphics card with all the drivers updated and the plugins for Firefox mostly set on "ask to activate". Should I expect this much reduction in performance when the workaround I mentioned was put into place? If so, it's half a loaf at best. The only thing questionable is that I have two Youtube downloaders that I am trying, but I made the assumption that these were only applied when you downloaded something from Youtube.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes": do not clear the Cookies
If you clear cookies then Firefox will also try to remove cookies created by plugins and that requires to start plugin-container processes that can slow down closing Firefox.
Instead let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.

It all depends on how you want to configure your VDI environment. In Server 2012\R2 there are 2 flavors: Pooled & Personal and further can deploy both that as Managed\UnManaged deployment. You can check following article for further details.

  • Windows Vista 64bit OS, NVIDIA and other questions.

I have a few questions I hope someone can answer.
Can I run 64bit Vista in Bootcamp?
If I wipe my harddisk and install 64bit vista and have a Windows only machine would that allow me to use different NVIDIA grpahics cards such as 9600GT?
I would imagine that the limitation of graphics cards are only due to driver compatability with MAC and qualification process?
If I wish to expand storage are there any sub 1TB drives that can use a 32MB cache? It seems only the 1TB/32MB cache is qualified with MAC. Is this another limitation that I could get round by running Vista 64bit.
I am not trying to start a flame war. I am only looking for sensible answers.
    Thank you.

Can I run 64bit Vista in Bootcamp?
Yes. Both the computer and OS X are fully 64-bit compliant.
You can install a second video card that does not work with OS X but does work with Windows. Third-party video cards do not work with OS X because they do not have the EFI boot ROM required by OS X. They will, however, work when you boot into Windows. You do not need to convert the Mac Pro to a Windows-only machine which would seem a waste of perfectly good hardware and software.
You can install any SATA hard drive in the Mac Pro. There is no limitation with regard to size. Cache, however, is a feature of the drive and not the computer. Apple does not "qualify" drives for use with the computer.
These questions have been discussed in the Mac Prp fourms so I suggest you search the forums for other discussions of the topics.

  • Newbie Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g feature availability question

Newbie question here. I am new to Oracle 11g and new to this forum. I ran a search on this question and came up empty so hopefully there is a kind and knowlegable soul wo can help.
I recall in earlier versions of Oracle Enterprise Manager for earlier versions of Oracle there was something called Oracle Enteprise Manager Reporting accessible from the OEM web.
One of its key features was the ability to make custom "Additional Reports". In our current environment this is installed and works great. I don't know if it was an add on to OEM, or if it was built in. It was built a long time ago and I wasn't arround for that build. All I know is it works and it suits our needs.
Well we are now trying to build a new Oracle dev box to replace the current dev environment. We would prefer to not lose any existing functionality we have... and if possible not have to reinvent the wheel. The new box has Oracle 11g.
**Here comes the dumb newbie questions. **
Does Oracle 11g Enterprise Manager support 9i-style Enterprise Manager Reporting and Custom Reports?
Is it called that in 11g or has it been renamed to something else?
Is it it a simple matter of configuration or is it an add on that needs to be installed?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
Wayward Oracle Newbie looking for an Oracle Home

Oracle 11g does not support 9i-style custom reports. There is a new reporting framework - Information Publisher available in Grid Control 10+ versions. The new reporting framework does support custom reports as well. Click on the Reports tab to access the functionality.

  • I have a Photosmart C7280 and have question s about making a network decision.

I currently have two desktops connected to a wireless router via ethernet cables.  They are connected to a single (non-HP) printer with USB cables through a USB switch.  Two laptops connect to the router wirelessly.  I could replicate the existing configuration with the C7280, but the idea of a network in which the laptops could participate is very appealing.  One of the laptops is running Windows version 7, the other computers are running Linux.  If I go for an ethernet network, will the laptops be able to connect to the printer through the router?  If I go for a wireless network, will the desktops be able to connect to the printer through their ethernet cables?  A couple of USB wirelss adapters are a possibility.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I understand that you have some questions regarding networking with your printer.
Yes, wired network connections will have no problem connecting to a wifi connected printer.  Most routers bridge wired and wireless networks to work as a single network.  There are a few routers that separate wired and wireless networks, but these are primarily enterprise grade routers and networking equipment.
A wired desktop will be able to print to a wireless printer as long as it is connected through the same router.  Vice versa, a wireless computer can print to an Ethernet connected printer as long as it is the same router.
I recommend using a network setup for the printer, if possible, to avoid printing issues.  USB hubs have been known to cause some printing problems, though this is not always the case.

  • Creating Icons/Graphics for High DPI Displays, naming and sizing

I'm having to create and deliver graphics and icons for a native desktop windows applications that must support Windows 8.1 and variety of screen resolutions which ranges from standard resolution monitors to new 4k high density displays.
Typically for iOS you would deliver an icon using the following size and naming convention to support both standard and Retina 2x devices.
    Standard Resolution
    Icon-72.png (actual size 72x72 pixels)
    Retina Display
[email protected] (actual size 144x144 pixels)
For Android on a 4k device, you might do the following:
[email protected] (actual size 288x288 pixels)
My question is would you also follow this same naming and sizing convention for native Windows 8.1 desktop apps? I'm assuming you would, but I'm getting some pushback.
This is slightly new territory in Windows desktop, but I'm hoping there may be a few who have experience and offer there suggestions.
    Thank you and best regards,

You will probably get better feedback in the forum for the picture program you are using... what is that program? (Photoshop?)

  • Update hardware and software Qosmio G30-198 for hight performance

    Good morning,
    I have a Qosmio G30-198.
I Have to use Autodesk Civil 3D program in the laptop.
It is a CAD program that requires a lot of ram and a high speed data transmission with the HDD's.
For this, it is absolutely necessary to update hardware and software for to use Civil with good performance.
I need to buy and install SSD HDD, install more RAM (what is the maximum allowed in this computer?) and I need to install Win 7 Professional 64 bit.
    Please,
if someone can tell me how I can further improve performance of the laptop, please tell me.
I do not know what steps I have to keep.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you so much.

    >.. what a disappointment
Why? How old is your notebook? At this time 4GB was the same when you use 8GB today.
We have mobile machines with limited upgrade possibilities.
    > It is better to install hardware or soft ware? (Win 7 Proffesional)
To be honest I dont understand this question. You should upgrade RAM to the maximum level and install Win7. Im pretty sure it will work well on this old Qosmio.
If you need your notebook for some specific operations like usage of Autodesk Civil 3D program you dont even need all drivers or specific Toshiba stuff. the main thing is you have most important drivers, tools and utilities.
    > I read in a post that it is necessary to change the video driver and install a diferent that the original one.
Fact is that Toshiba recommends usage of own drivers only. Toshiba offers tested and adapted drivers for usage on mobile machines. These different drivers can help notebook owner to have better graphic performance and this new driver will force graphic card to offer more power but at the same time you must understand that more performance results with more heat. Due to specific design it is very risky for notebooks.
Have you ever cleaned up your notebook? I can imagine it is pretty much dust inside.
    > Do you think if I install G50 driver it will work in my G30?
Unfortunately I cannot comment this. Just be careful with this.
