Enterprise Edition and RAC

My company is new to the Oracle database. We are purchasing servers for development/testing running RH Linux. To minimize the number of servers:
1) Is it possible to have a single server instance of EE running on one of the RAC cluster servers?
2) Is it possible to have 9i and 10g RAC running against the same server cluster using different Oracle homes as I would for single server instances?

Some mixture in the terminology here. What do you mean by a "single server instance of EE". I assume further that you mean a standalone database in addition to the RAC instance running on the server.
Installing the RAC SW into a ORACLE_HOME is the same SW used for a standalone installation. The Cluster information is stored in srvcfg file that is common to all n instances. And in addition to the ORACLE_HOME Sw there is clusterware running on all the nodes. But if you have a RAC environment and want to add an instance on one of the nodes without placing data on raw-devices, I think you can ommit this and have a standalone instance on one of the nodes. However, i have not tested it and I don't know anyone who did. I assume that you can create the service from oradim. Start the instance and point to
control files that are placed on a local disk. Also all tablespaces should be placed on local disks.
Regarding the 10G/9i installation, I am not sure. There is no problem installing a new 10G ORACLE_HOME to an existing node in a RAC environment. Question is how the clusterware is configured. In 9i it is placed in c:\windows\system32\oci9.

In our current setup we have RAC on standard edition and client is now planning to go for Enterprise Edition but not yet decide because of cost.
Is there any difference between Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition ?
They told me to first install Enterprise Edition and then will move to Standard Edition if they can't get the EE license so in that case do i have to re-install Grid infrastructure for standard edition?

There is no "Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition", is only Grid Infrastructure 11gR2.
About Oracle Clusterware (Grid Infrastructure) licensing.
At least one of the servers in the cluster is licensed for Oracle Database (SE1, SE, or EE)
A cluster is defined to include all the machines that share the same Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and Voting Disk.

About Installation:
Nothing changes on your current setup of Grid Infrastructure 11.2
Just install a new fresh installation of Oracle Database (On current clusterware) chosing E.E during Install. Configure the database/services to start from this new ORACLE HOME. Nothing change on Database all previous backup and features used still unchanged. Using this new Oracle Home new features are enabled to be used by your databases.

None if these crash reports seem to have been send.
Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

BI Enterprise Edition and Discoverer

I am new to Oracle BI technology.Can anybody pls explain what is the basic difference between OracleBI Enterprise Edition and OracleBI Discoverer.

These are really completely separate tools.
Discoverer is an ad-hoc query tool, running on the Oracle Application Server.
Oracle BIEE is a whole suite of tools, including an ad-hoc query tool - called Answers, as well as scheduler, a Dashboard and BI Publisher.

Simultaneously Connecting Multiple Tables of the same Database to Textboxes of the same Form using a single ADO Control Code using VB6 Enterprise Edition and MS Access 2007

Iv 10 Tables consisting of atleast 10 fields each in a single Database. Bt, Im only able to connect 1 table at a time to a form using an ADO Control. Im able to add data from table 'student' to text-boxes in my form. Bt, hw can I add data from field(0) of
Table 'Student' to Textbox1 and data from field(0) of Table 'Marks' to Textbox2 using VB6??

I use Windows 7 enterprise edition, and I have not been able to make Firefox on my machine. As soon as I open a website, it becomes unresponsive

Since 6 months, as soon as I open Firefox and type in a website, it just freezes. Its stops loading the website and also the whole firefox window freezes : it does not minimize and neither it pop backs. I have tried all the resolutions provided but none of them work for me. Really bad. If soon this does not resolve, I will trash out Firefox permanently from my laptop - though I do not want to do this :(

Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and Developer 6.0

I have installed ORACLE 8i on my laptop and can start the database/log into SQLPlus to create tables, etc. There is no network adapter, so I installed MS Loopback Adapter to make this all work. Windows NT and ORACLE 8i are on the D: drive.
The other day I installed Developer 6.0 on the E: drive. When I try to connect to the database, I get a cannot resolve service name error.
I have tried various OEACLE protocol adapters (TCP/IP, Bequeath, IPC), but can't seem to get Developer to talk with the database.
What is the easiest way to get a working system that I can use to get things working?
What changes would I have to make to use an alternative way (for general education, info)?

It seems like u haven't configured the listener/tnsnames files indication is **cannot resolve service names**
check to see ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
for this files and check the sample files in the same directory for setting up those files.
ORACLE_HOME=path where the Oracle is installed

I installed oracle 8i release 3 (8.1.7) and the management tools, when i try to startup the ManagementServer Service sends me an error, and in the log file ( oms.nohup)says :

Each version of the Java EE platform must be able to run on the associated version of the Java SE platform. So, J2EE 1.4 must be able to run on J2SE 1.4 , Java EE 5 must be able to run on Java SE 5, etc. Note that this doesn't mean a particular implementation of Java EE can't be run with a more recent version of the JDK. For example, the J2EE 1.4 SDK can be run with J2SE 1.4 or Java SE 5. The key is that both the implementation of the Java EE platform and the applications written to that particular release of the platform must write to the corresponding Java SE version API. In other words, neither a J2EE 1.4 implementation nor a J2EE 1.4 application should make use of an API that was added in Java SE 5.

I am using Oracle 11g R2 and I want to know what is the difference technically between Standard Edition, Standard Edition 1 and Enterprise Edition?
is it as below ? anything else?
Standard edition: It is Single Instance database with all it is features ? up to 4 sockets, what is socket ? is it processor ?
Standard edition one: It come with RAC and ASM?
Enterprise edition: RAC + ASM + Dataguard?
any other technical differences.

BIP desktop vs BIP enterprise edition.

WHat is the difference between BIP Desktop and BIP Enterprise editon. I installed BIP Desktop first and coverted few Answers reports. I tried to sftp the report and was not successfull. I contacted oracle support and was informed that I need to install BIP Enterprise edition and apply a patch to the server version for the sftp to work. Now I have both desktop and enterprise edition installed on my machine. Now I am totally confused. I have few questions.
1. In which case do we BIP Desktop and BIP enterprise edition.
2. Will the microsoft word pugin work only for the desktop version?
3. When I connect to BIP now I am not sure if I am connected to Desktop version or enterprise edition.
4. When I run BIP from presentaion services I see that I am connected to the desktop version as I see few of my developed reports in there.
5. After I installed BIP Enterprise edition I see the 'Start BI Publisher' and 'Stop BI Publisher' in the start menu. When I click on start BI Publisher I am connecting to BIP and in there I dont see any reports. SO I am assuming it is the enterprise edition version.
6. If I want to ftp reports from enterprise edition version how do I do it.
Please help. I am totally confused with two versions installed. Thanks in advance.

BIP Desktop is for Report/ RTF template development and testing purpose. It is against the static data or if you have installed Enterprise, you can connect to live data as well. While enterprise is the complete product with all the functionality.

Identify db-functionality only available in Oracle Enterprise Edition

Hi
I have an application with lots of PL/SQL logic. The development database for this application is Oracle Enterprise Edition and now we are going to install the application in an Oracle Standard Edition database at customer site.
To be prepared I want to verify if I use (and remove) any db-functinality only available in Enterprise Edition.
Is it possible to start an Oracle Enterprise Edition database in “Standard Edition mode”? Or is there any other way to scan the code?

After installing the EE software, IMO there is no way to start it in SE mode. As Data dictionary metadata stuff is different for EE and SE.
You need to install SE and do exp/imp
