Enterprise Manager / Guest stuck as "Editing"

There is a bug in EM Grid Control with OVM where if a guest is in Error, and you edit it, it will allow the edit but then error out. The issue is that EM thinks the edit is successful (all the steps show it as successful), but if you dig into the process, you see it error out.
The log of the successful process are as follows:
Setting up repository contexts
The current status of virtual machine ERROR is not valid for the operation.
Setting the virtual machine status to EDITING
Step: Edit Virtual Machine has been executed successfully.
Now the guest is stuck in "Editing" and you are not able to do anything to change the status.
Normally in VM Manager I'd edit the database to change the status manually, but with EM Grid Control, I'm not sure the process to do this.
Thoughts?

  • Oracle 10g enterprise manager create directory

    Hi,
I am new to using Oracle 10g on Linux and struggle with creating a new directory using the Enterprise Manager "wizard".
I go to Database Instance > Directory Objects > Create Directory objects
and try it with \home\oracle , then test the file system it says directory not available.
pressing OK and continueing with my data dump does not work because I get the error "The directory does not exist"
I wonder why it has not been created?
moreover how do I delete the directory objects. I cant find a delete button using the enterprise manager browser ui ?

I also tried the intuitiv DROP DIRECTORY in sqlplus as well but...
the directory does apparently not exist (altough I can see it clearly there in the list). That could be an ownership issue. Who does the directory belong to? who are you logged on as?

Hence I came to the conlusion to create a directory using the good old enterprise manager and it did not work too well either.
whatever I type in there I get file system does not exist. I guess I do something wrong with the PATH written into the textbox right?

Who are you connecting as when you log on to OEM? Try logging on with sysdba authority and you should see some more options available on the directory management page.

  • Is Enterprise Manager included or free with WLS standard edition ?

Hello Experts,  I did lot of research but unable to confirm whether Enterprise Manager ( EM console ) is included in WLS standard edition.  As per the information mentioned by Oracle in http://www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/application-server/oracle-weblogic-server-ds-1391360.pdf,  what I understood is  if I have  WLS standard Edition, it comes with Enterprise Manager ie., EM console.  While comparing cost,  I realized that WLS Enterprise Edition is far expensive than WLS Standard Edition.   But all I care is  Full ADF and EM console when I get WLS  so  I think WLS standard edition should be good for me.
Can you please  clarify my concern.
    thanks

From the Enterprise Manager Licensing Information doc:
"The base installation of Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c includes several features free of charge with the purchase of any Oracle software license or Support contract." So if you own a WLS license or a Support contract, you can use the features that come with the base installation (see the doc for more information). Contact your sales team if you need clarification.

  • Stuck at Configuration Details when installing Enterprise Manager 12c linux

    Hi all
I need a help with installations of Enterprise manager 12c. Usually it is a straight forward installtion. But this time, i encounter this error :
    ERROR:SQLException null Resultset
Unable to connect to the database and validate whether it is a supported database due to one of the following reasons:
    (1) Incorrect credentials
    (2) Listener may be down
    (3) Database may be down
Check the credentials ,the status of the listener and the database and retry.
I am sure I put in the correct username/password, port number and host name, I could connect by TOAD and sqlplus from my desktop with no problem. but the installer tells me that incorrect credentials were given. I really could not understand where the problem could be.
Any help or directions are greatly appreciated.
    Yong

No. Do I have to? I just thought this is not that severe to bother oracle support. I thought some dbas on this forum could help. I even downloaded another copy from website and reinstall it and it returned the same error. Looks like the software can not parse the password correctly. Don't if any other dbas encounter such weired behavior.
    Thanks.

NO, it will not work. You cannot even install since the installer

  • Error connecting 8i Enterprise Manager Console after installation

Dear all, I am very new to the oralce world and got stuck today the first time I install oracle 8i on my win2k pro.
After the installation, I was trying to connect the Enterprise Manager Console for the first time, using the default user name sysman and password oem_temp (correct?). The problem is that I don't know exactly what is a management server, and what name it should be called. I named the database/sid name orarem, under D:\Oracle\admin\OraRem, does it have something to do with this issue?
I only installed the oracle enterprise server edition 8.1.6.0.0, not the Client part, will that matter if I only wanna run oracle on my stand alone desktop as a testing procedure for now?
Any help would be really appreciated!!

  • Problems with Enterprise Manager WebSite

I have installed Oracle Application Server R2 on a Win2k.
The problem is that I can do almost nothing through the Enterprise Manager Web Site.
    1. Once, I tried to create a new OC4J instance on a 9iAS install with just ONE deployed application, but I got a Base Exception (or something) that meant nothing to me. After that, most of the components (including OC4J_home) couldn't be managed, although the corresponding application was up and running.
    2. Once, I tried to deploy an EAR file. The procedure would last for ever so I had to close the window of my browser. After that, any change that I tried to make (even a dummy change - just pressing the Apply button of a page) failed telling me that I had to "resync my instance" through the dcm utility. I did and, now, every change I try to apply gives me a timeout error.
The situation is getting rather iritating. I would like to know if there is any bug. Or is there a certain procedure that I sould follow when dealing with the Enterprise Manager?
What I have figured out is that when a procedure is interrupted (e.g. when it seems to have stuck), then the problems begin. Is there a way to ensure that the system fully recovers from any previous unsuccessful procedure? I have only tried the "resetFileTransaction" command from the dcm utility without results.
One last question: can I manage my application server through its XML files manually (without ever touching the enterprise manager)?
I am desperate. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx

I am experiencing the same problems + I run the 9iAS R2 on a machine with 1GB RAM! Furthermore when I call a PL/SQL from a machine other than the AS Server itself not all content is written to the HTTP response and I end up having a broken HTML content.
The editing of the XML config files came to my mind as well, though you also need to edit the .conf files of the Appache and all Modules you are using ... which is not very productive!
    Cheers Niels

  • Error ORA-12560 prompts when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to Oracle.
Just installed the Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) into Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Problem is encountered when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager Standalone mode using either system/oracle or scott/tiger as credentials. Error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" prompts.
I tried to check with some configuration and see whether the services are started. Services of "OracleOraHome90TNSListener" and "OracleServiceORCL" have been started and the database exists in the dedicated directory. Environment variables of "ORACLE_HOME" and "ORACLE_SID" have been added manually as the SID is set to orcl, which I just follow what the instruction manual has stated. Moreover, I can't get access using command prompt typing "svrmgrl"; error returned stating " 'svrmgrl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Another information is that there is no domain set in my server. Just a server with a name being assigned in a workgroup.
Hence, would you mind please advice me what to do in order to get access into the Enterprise Manager? It's quite an urgent task.
    A million thx in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Karen

    Hi Jigneshrp,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is checked that the listener is running and TNS name service exists. Following your advice, I did create a new listener and another name service and use them, but the same error turns out when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager again.
Additional information to take note for is that while reconfiguring the existing listener or creating a new listener, a mesage prompts stating "The information provided for this listener is currently in use by other software on this computer. You can proceed with the configuration as it is, but it will not be possible to start this listener until the conflict is resolved. Would you like to continue with the continue with the configuration anyway? Yes/No".
As for the reconfiguration or the new creation of TNS names service, when I am trying to test for the connection, the results in the details pane states that "Connecting... ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. The test did not succeed...."
Would you mind pls advice me on these?
Furthermore, there exist 2 questions I am wondering is that it is stated in the instruction manual that prior to the installation, a static IP should be specified for it instead of the DHCP one; hence, I wanna ask after the complete insallation, is it that the server should be running in the network, i.e. allow it to get connected with the outside network?
2nd question is that can Oracle 9i Database Server Standard Edition (9.0.1) be installed under a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and just a Window XP Professional?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Karen

  • Problem with login using Oracle Enterprise Manager

I am new to Oracle. I installed the software (my Operating System is Windows XP) and created a database following the guidelines in the documentation and Oracle By Example. Now I can not log on as the user SYS through the Enterprise Manager. However, I can login through SQL Plus. I am using the password that I assigned during the installation.
