Enterprise Service Design Guide

Hello,
One of my colleagues is attending TechEd in Amsterdam this week, and he informs me that he was told SAP a while back developed a design guide for creating enterprise services.  I can't seem to find anything particular to this on SDN.. can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Matt

  • New enterprise mobility design guide

Hi, anybody knows if there's a newer enterprise mobility design guide than 4.1? Some of Cisco's WLAN new features such as CAPWAP is not included in 4.1. It's time for Cisco to prepare a new design guide.

  • How to start developing an Enterprise Service

    Hi everybody.
I'm a student who writes his diploma thesis at the moment.
My aim is to identify different serivce candidates with the aid of a roadmap methodology in my company. After doing a business process analysis and identifying all the IT systems and interfaces to external systems I want to develop a enterprise (web) service (with ABAP/Java) offering some type of masterdata from SAP HCM and deploy it to the Exchagne Infrastructure of my company.
But I don't know how to start. There is too much (poor) information. Until know I did not find concrete howto-guides with examples for "developing a service" (both ABAP and Java), "deploying and testing a service with XI". Could somebody give me some hints?
I have access to the ABAP workbench, XI and the NWDS and have read all the theoretical stuff about SOA and SAP ESOA.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stefan

  • Developement XI-Content for Enterprise Services

    Hi,
What is XI-Content? And what must be defined in XI-Content for Enterprise Service Enabling?
We have defined some services as provider, these services are goint to be in XI-Content. But we are also requesting some infromation to business partner, these inforamtion could be services or messages in case our partner does not have services.
So my feeling is: in XI-Content we need to define:
    Interfaces for the services which we provide;
Interfaces which we as consumer request?
Interfaces which from partner as provider?
Interfaces for the messages which are sending from partner?
Mapping between the service interfaces (provider <->consumer)
Mapping between the messages and the services?
I am sorry, but this is really confusing when we plan the development of XI-content.
Could you give me a clear picture or guideline according to your experience?
    Thank you very much.
    Jing

This XI content is nothing but most commonly used integration scenarios for address specific business process requirements for a particular landscape. For Ex:Interface for Creating PO ,Sales Order etc.
I have read many articles which say that XI Integration Repository will be re-named as Enterprise Service Repository which will enable the customers to kick-start with Enterprise Services.SAP sets the ball rolling by providing 500 Enterprise Services.
As far as I understand these services are nothing but commonly used re-usable integration scenarios which are powered by Webservices.Enterprise Service Granularity depends on how you define your "Service".
You have an awesome article on ESA which explains in an excellent way.
Search the sdn for Enterprise Service Design Guide which can be an answer all your questions.

  • Enterprise Services, Service Operations and Functional Business Component

    Hi,
in the Enterprise Service desing guide (see https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/40c05360-0501-0010-63bd-aedd415b6e05 ) the relations between Enterprise Services and Service Operations are covered.
I understand that one Enterprise Service consists of one or  more Service Operations. For Example General Ledger Processing ES offers seven Service Operations. (See Solution Composer)
Functional Business Components offer one or more Enterprise Services and several Service Operations. As mentioned in the Design Guide, an Enterprise Services is dedicated to a certain Functional Business Component. An Enterprise Service could use several Service Operations of  one ore more Functional Business Components.
When browsing the Solution Composer I couldn't discover any Enterprise Service that uses Service Operations of more than one Functional Component.
Here's my question: Does anyone know an Enterprise Service  described in the Solution Composer which uses Service Operations of several Functional Business Components? If there aren't any, why?
    Regards,
    Sebastian

    Sebastian,
I haven't looked through the entire set of preview services, but most of what I have seen is consistent with what you are describing. I think the short answer is the ESA preview system is really a pre-release of the intial ESR which itself is essentially an extension of XI's integration repository. These are basically the finer grained object and interface level services.
SAP should be releasing some significant content updates to this ESR after NW2004S goes GA later this year. More importantly the next edition of the ESR tied to the BPP release will greatly expand on the scope including containing the more complex service defintions and process models which cut across components that you are looking for.

  • Adobe Digital Enterprise Platforms Document Services - Designer 10.0

I need LiveCycle reader extension right.
Can I get this service from
"Adobe Digital Enterprise Platforms Document Services - Designer 10.0"

There are a few issues in the thread, so I will tackle them separately:
Which rights do you need?  Most likely is external data (soap, database) or externdal data objects?  Just curious and verifying than a requirement. Note that there are twelve different rights, so it'd be worthwhile to assure that you really need the server-based rights.
You can get access to the server-based rights in two ways.  Either install a LiveCycle/ADEP server trial yourself: it just takes an XP or Win7 machine with 4GB memory. Or you can contact a local Adobe Solution Consultant and have hime reader-extend the form with the required rights.
I'll have a product manager get back with the pricing question.  It might help to know what country and region you are in and your vertical area. And much of the pricing question will revolve around whether you only need the reader extension capability or if you plan to integrate document and workflow processing or web content management.

  • Design Objects created in Enterprise Services Builder not appearing in Integration Builder

I am fairly new to PI, so hoping someone can help.  I have created a number of design objects (DataType, MessageType, ServiceInterface, MessageMapping, OperationMapping).  I had also imported an RFC object successfully as well that is used in the creation of the design objects.  All have been saved and activated, and there are no apparent errors listed.
After saving and activating the objects, I went into Integration Builder, and created a new Configuration Scenario.  However, when trying to add in the Interface Determination, Receiver Determination, Sender Agreement, and Receiver Agreement, I do not see the the RFC object or design objects that were created in the Enterprise Services Builder.
Can someone advise as to whether or not I have missed a step somewhere?  Or perhaps there is something else that I need to do before I can get the design objects and imported RFC object to appear in the Integration Builder?.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tuan.

    Hi Tuan,
Are you using Business System or Business Component.  If your using Business System you need to assign Software Component Version to Business System in SLD.  If your using Business Component you have to add the Interface Name Manually to the Business Component.  Please see the Below screen shot, you have to add Sender or Receiver Interface manually to proceed further step.
    Thanks,
    Satish.

  • Enterprise SOA Service Design Standards

At the SAP NetWeaver 2008 conference I sat in on a session that briefly described the design standards/patterns that all Enterprise Services follow.  Things such as naming service "Manage<BO>" etc.  Can anyone point me to the documentation on the SAP site that details these standards?

  • Understand the technical base for Enterprise Services?

    Hi all,
I am trying to understand what is the technical base for enterprise services and the restrictions when activating them. The best documents I have found are:
Note 1566412 u2013 Enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0.
Note 1359215 u2013 Technical prerequisites for using enterprise services
sdn blog u201CDetermin the SOA readiness of your System with the ES Workplace (Part 1 and 2)
    EHP Master Guide - https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001183052011E
The documents are quite informative, however there are still questions. Maybe someone can shed some light of these:
1.) Is my understanding correct that Enterprise services can have three different base u201Cmodulesu201D?:
    a. An EHP (with relation to a business function).
    b. The swc u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D (without relation to a business function). E.G. ES Bundle "Bank Communication Management".
    c. The SWC u201CSAP APPLu201D (without relation to a business function). E.G. u201CBusinessPartnerERPUpdateRequestConfirmation_Inu201D
2.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services (bundles) that rely on business functions after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
3.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services with base u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
4.) Is SWC u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D a u201Ctechnicalu201D business function, whose activation cannot be reverted either? If yes what effect has the activation von u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D on the current ERP customizing?
5.) How do the Enterprise Services relate with Service Interface definitions from SAP Process Integration (XI Content)?
Do I need the XI Content with the service interfaces in ES Repository (and SPROXY) only if the communication is B2B (with PI) or also if the communication is Point-2-Point (without PI)?
    Thanks for your feedback!
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I'll try and provide answers where I can...
1.) Is my understanding correct that Enterprise services can have three different base u201Cmodulesu201D?:
I personally don't agree with this understanding. Enterprise Services would always relate to some or other business function, unless we have a different understanding of what "Business Function" means . What changes is how the Enterprise Services (or versions of them) are delivered.
SAP APPL for example would be relevant to most of the enterprise services shipped with a standard ECC EHP*. So it will relate to the business functionality for the applications that are shipped with an ECC installation.
2.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services (bundles) that rely on business functions after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
I don't understand this question but I'll try and offer a generic answer. You can activate/use Enterprise Services whenever you want to as long as they are already available in your current installation. If they are only available in an EHP that you don't have yet then you will need to upgrade (but I also seem to recall some workarounds - SAP notes - as an alternative to upgrading).
3.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services with base u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
You decide when you would like to activate it, it's generally after. SAP will ship them anyway.
4.) Is SWC u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D a u201Ctechnicalu201D business function, whose activation cannot be reverted either? If yes what effect has the activation von u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D on the current ERP customizing?
There is a tool call Impact Analyzer, read up a little on it. It allows you to do an impact analysis before activating. It might also help posting a separate thread on of the ECC functional forums here on SCN for more impact analysis. I'm not sure if the activation can be reverted.
5.) How do the Enterprise Services relate with Service Interface definitions from SAP Process Integration (XI Content)?
The XI Content is the design equivalent of the Enterprise Services as you see them in SPROXY. It's only relevant in certain cases, examples:
    - If you want to enhance standard SAP Enterprise Services
    - If you want to do additional transformation/s & routing.
If you are planning P2P type communication, then the XI content is not relevant. One thing to be aware of though is if you have your backend ECC system connected to your PI ESR, the view that you get in SPROXY will reflect the SWC view of the ESR. So you might want to download the XI Content & import it into your PI ESR anyway.

  • PI Szenarion with an existing Enterprise Service

    Hello,
i will design and configure an szenario with using PI 7.1 and an Discovery System. For this i will use an existing Enterprise Service. These Service is deployed on the Discovery System.
    Service:
    Read Purchase Order
    Enterprise Service Operation
How can i realize this? Exists for this szenario or an other one an How-To-Guide?
    Best regards
    Maik

    Maik,
From SAP ES work place find out in which Service Pakc of ECC this service is available. Search for that pack in SAP Service Market place and download the archive. Import this in to PI. Once you see the software component in XI, check if the discovery ECC has this enhancement installed already. If not you have to get that installed. Then goto SPROXY transaction and see if the service you want to use is enabled. Now you can create your outbound interface, message type and data type in XI and configure the scenario.

  • Refer to Enterprise Services as Web Services

    Hi Experts,
Is the statement "Each Enterprise Service is also considered as a Web Service" true? I think I got the general distinction between ES and WS. As I understood ES are based upon the technological concept of WS with additional "features" - basically business semantic and governence rules. In my opinion that means that each ES can also be declined as WS (of course the other way around it's not valid). Or did I miss any point about ES that makes the statement not working?
    thanks for your answers

Just thought of sharing a few more points.
    1. All Enterprise Services are Web Services but the converse is not true.
    2. All enterprise services would lead from one consistent state to another. With Web Services, this may not always be true.
    3. An enterprise service provides one complete functionality and not a fuctionality step. Say we take updating of a Address details. Updating the door number and the street number could be different web services. However, these have to be together in an enterprise service.
    4. Enterprise Services provided by SAP go through an unique governance process called the PIC process. Web services need just design reviews.
    Maybe there are many more...

Don't know if this will help, but...
I was having the same exact problem, even though I had it working a few days ago.
I stumbled upon a way to get it work by running the "Portal-to-Go Request Manager" (as outlined in the "Installation Guide", Section 9.0, "Testing the Installation") simply by invoking the following URL:
    http://<hostname>/ptg/server/papz/parm.jsp (on OAS)
