Enterprise Service Repository

Hi,
I like to know the differences in between Enterprise Service Repository and Integration Repository (XI)?
Thanks & Regards,
Kamaljeet Singh

hi Kamaljeet,
ESR is a meta data repository, meaning that it stores data that describes other data. The meta data inside the ESR is then used by development tools, modeling tools, operational management tools, and by other services to help them do their jobs. The ESR has also been given the job of storing descriptions of business objects and models that show how services work together in process components.
Perhaps the best way to quickly understand the ESR is to list all the different types of metadata stored in in and quickly explain how that data is used.
Type of data and How it is used as follows:
Web Services Definition Language (WSDL) files These files describe the service interfaces of enterprise services and are used by development tools and during run-time to look up interface definitions.
Business Object Descriptions Business objects are used in modeling to show what structures exist in an application that are implementing services.
Process Component Models This data describes models that show how enterprise services work together to implement business processes. These models show how a service is used and what business objects implement the service.
It is important to remember that services are not implemented in the ESR. The ESR holds descriptions of services that are then implemented in applications that are separate from the repository.

  • URL to Enterprise Service Repository

    Hi All,
we have a ERP2005 evaluation system. Now I want to browse the enterprise services similar to the Preview system (esapreview.sap.com).
Does anybody know the URL I have to use?
    Regards,
    Marc

    hi there,
AFAIK there's no such thing as an enterprise service repository on ERP 2005 (NW2004s) and therefore no browser for that.
You have a BSP application WEBSERVICEBROWSER, which shows you all webservices (and webservice-ified entitities like RFCs, BAPIs) on your system.
And you have the XI integration repository with services defined on XI, which doesn't have such a nice browser (UDDI-like) feature.
I think we have to wait for the next NW release.

  • Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) available in Trial?

Does anyone know if the Enteprise Services Repository (ESR) is included in the Full Java Edition-Trial and/or Full ABAP Edition-Trial?
I want to try out the "outside in" approach for service-enabling newly build applications that starts by creating the interface design in the Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) using the Data Type Editor (as described in this article -> https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/5e144eb2-0c01-0010-aaa4-fa0e0c12aab2)

  • How to install Enterprise Service Repository

    Dear Team,
We are in a process of implementing PI7.1. In this context, I need to know follwoing :
    1. What is Enterprise Service Repository. Is it an Add-on to be installed on top of PI7.1 or a separate identity in itself. If it is an add-on where to get it from ?
    2. Whereever I find ESR in Community/Download, I find it for Netweaver CE 7.1. Do I need to install Netweaver Ce 7.1 first for this ?
    3. Do I need to install some corresponding component in my ECC 6.0 as well ?
    Kindly guide.
    Thanks

Enterprise Service Repository in PI7.1 is nothing but Integration repository (of PI7.0).....it comes alongwith the installation of PI7.1....
    3. Do I need to install some corresponding component in my ECC 6.0 as well ?
there is no need to install anything on SAP ECC....

  • Access to Enterprise Services Repository (ESR)

Hello, how can I access an ESR from a simple java console without having to use the Enterprise Services Builder?
    - Is there an API available?
    - Can somebody point me to a "best practice" for working with the ESR by using Java?
    Thx a lot!

    Hallo
In the SOA world , there are two components which are critical and they define how one access the services.
      They are:
          1. Registry
          2. Repository
Registry is like a yellow pages, it only contains the pointer to the actual service artifact (service artifact can be a WSDL file or service policies, metadata etc). It does not physically hold these service artifacts. It only contains the pointers. Normally all the registries are implemented as UDDI complaint.
Repository is place where you store all the knowledge relevant to a particular service like WSDL, Metadat, policies etc.
The recommended approach is normally access the registry(Using standard UDDI api's) and get a pointer to repository on how to access and execute.
In SAP World, they have registry implemented as UDDI complaint and ESR is an extension of XI Integrattion Repository. ESR is only a design time component, it's not a runtime/execution component.
So accessing a service in the repository has two ways
        - One is Registry way
         or
        - Traditional XI way
    Hope it helps
    Best Regards

  • Can not view a Software Component Version in Enterprise Services Repository

    Hello,
I'm trying to import in ESR the software component version created in the SLD. I'm using SAP PI 7.3.
Into to work area select  Software Component Version and click on checkpoint Import from SLD. Click in bottom Display (List of Software Component Versions) and it show me the list but cannot view the Name of the SWC created.
I cleared the cache (Environment - clear sld data cache) and the result it's the same, not show the SWC the I created.
    Do you have any idea?
    Thank you in advance.

as it's a new installation, you certainly missed something. have you did controls of Readiness Check doc and tcode SLDCHECK ([see PI 7.1x oss note|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1143810]).
and check these post installation controls (but it's for PI 7.1): [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/60d2a693-9504-2b10-5ba7-82964bd8370e?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true]

  • PI and CE Enterprise Service Repository

    Hello,
We currently have PI 7.0 and we are planning to upgrade to PI 7.1 furthermore we are testing CE 7.1 with some small applications. It's possible that according to our designed scenarios some of them will run on CE and other and PI and some complex scenarios will run on both (for example in the case of BPM and B2B).
    Our question is:
Should we use only one ESR and one UDDI Registry for both PI and CE ?.
The Enterprise SOA documentation talks about one ESR and one UDDI Registry but some practical documents and examples aren't very clear when both products are used.
    Thanks in advance.
    Yuvan.

    Hi Stefan,
    Thanks for your early reply.
My doubt was because I read in some place that the ESR of PI and CE have some small differences. So I wasn't very sure that the ESR of PI could be suitable for CE too.
    Thanks...

  • What are Events in NWDS Enterprise Service Repository Perspective?

    Hello Experts,
does anyone have further information about the artefact "Events" in the context of the attached picture?
As far as I know is it not the same as the events in process modelling. Furthermore you can't create an object of the type "Events".
When I'm accessing the ESR with the swing client there is no object like an Event (I've checked all subcategories).
Thanks in advance and best Regards
    Patrick

    Hi Holger,
    It is running with PI.
A detailed description of the error as follows:

  • Enterprise Service Repository and Registry

I am studying the SOA architecture and I thought that were the same things, but reading some docs, I understand it's not so.
Can anyone explain me pleas what are the differences between these two things?
    Thanks
    Gabriele

    Hi Gabriele,
ESRepository is a container that holds all the objects that have been desingned and ready to be used as services .Where as Registry is a place we jus mention them as cataloge or menu so that we can discover the services that are available for the customer and make use of them by further navigation and subscribing.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • How to map business process and enterprise service?

Recently, I read some documents about ESA. I'm confusing about the relationship between business process and enterprise service. In other word, how to map the business process to enterprise service after the business process is analyzed? Is there any methodology/rule to define business process and wrap them into service in ESA?

    Hi Sherry,
I like to add some of my thoughts about that discussion. From my point of view ESA is much more than just another BPM or Enterprise BPM. ESA is adresses six key areas and I think all of them are really needed:
    - <b>People Productivity</b> as the word itself describes...it's about portals and productivity.
    - <b>Embedded Analytics</b> has to integrate transactional and analytical content.
    - <b>Service Composition</b> is used for model-driven service composition and services orchestration.
    - <b>Service Enablement</b> is about a Enterprise Services Repository filled with business meaningful Enterprise Services and service patterns for enabled objects. Excactly this is where SAP has years of experiences.
    - <b>Business Process Platform</b> is about service enablement of all application platform objects and engines. This is the place where "BPM" for core business processes resits.
    - <b>Life-Cycle Management</b> has to cover the deployment, configuration, operation and change management for ESA based processes.
Therefore the term "BPM" is located in serveral layers of an ESA approach. On the level of <u>Business Process Platform</u> BPM is providing the choreography for core business preocesses.
At <u>Service Enablement</u> BPM needs to compose out of granular services (I would say "atomic" services)
buiness meaningful services (here we have "molecular" services).
The third level where BPM could be used is <u>Service Composition</u> because exactly this is the place
where serveral Enterprise Services could be combined to a process representation.
To come back to the discussion:
    1. The question should be how to indentify business meaningful services which could represent single process steps. ATP check, Credit card check, ... could be examples. In theory this service could be out-tasked, defined more flexible etc. This means that processes needs to be evaluated for Enterprise Service candidates. Afterwards you can check against SAP's Enterprise Services Repository for already existing Enterprise Services. The evalution for enterprise services candidates will be supported by the metodology mentioned by Kaj and David.
    2. I think domains in this context should be motivated by business and/or functional areas. Depending on the granularity. For example Order Fulfilment Services, Master Data Services, Search Services... These kind of serices can be combined again to services such as "Search of Master Data" (Search Service + Read Master Data Service) etc. or can be used to generate UI to be used in a ESA application.
    Your thoughts?
    Very best regards
    Wulff

    Hi all,
trying to fix the problems above with Enterprise Sercvice Builder i have made a mistake:
i have undeployed SAP_XIESR  and now i can't find it anymore!
the link where i find the ESR and Service Registry is no more accessible!
    is the undeploy reversible?
    these are the details:
from NWDS , deployment perspective, from tab undeploy view i selected SAP_XIESR added in the list of things to undeploy and run undeploy
this SAP_XIESR  is now vanished, when i make that action i thought that it was reversible, but now i can't find SAP_XIESR  in no place around!!!
how can i reverse that action?

Itu2019s not a problem with host or port inaccessibility (I already got access to start page, sld, Runtime WorkBench, etc.).
Letu2019s look closer to, for example, library url : http://v2:51400/run/repository/com.sap.xpi.ibrep.client.jar (taken from jnlp file content). When I paste it to the browser I get error u201CThe requested resource does not exist.u201D (as I expected). So I have changed root in the url from u201Crunu201D to u201Crepu201D (correspondingly to XI 3.0 and PI 7.0) u2013  http://v2:51400/rep/repository/com.sap.xpi.ibrep.client.jar  and I succeed  in downloading single library file!!!!.
But!!!! I canu2019t change jnlp file content either on client (because itu2019s overwritten every time I launch the application) and server (because  it is generated form template and system properties every time I launch the application) side, so itu2019s not solution but shows that there is something wrong with library resources or/and with jnlp script generation on PI 7.1 platform (why urls in jnlp script points to resources which does not exists in expected location?).
The question is : How to run properly Enterprise Services Builder and Integration Builder Directory on PI 7.1 platform and what is the reason of errors I have described above.

    Hi Szymon,
    thanks for the suggestion.
I had a a bit spot of bother, too.
I found out that my Java didn't inherit browser proxy settings, even if corresponding flag was checked (I don't know why...).
I manually set proxy properties in Java and now ESB run
    hope this help someone else
    regards
    Cristian

  • Enterprise service  on ERP 2005

    Hi all,
    Past contribution
    URL to Enterprise Service Repository
There's no enterprise service repository on ERP 2005,
but I'd like to research the content of all Enterprise Service on ERP2005.
    How can I solve it?
    Regards,
    Mami Kudo

All you'll get with ERP 05 is what you see with transaction code WSADMIN. Not much there yet. I suspect the delivery of the initial batch of enterprise services got delayed and will probably come later this year in a form of an add-on or patch to ERP 05. Watch out what's downloadable from service marketplace under ERP 05.
