Enterprise Vault Outlook 11.0.1 plugin

Trying to find the best way to package the Enterprise Vault Outlook 11.0.1 plugin using SCCM 2012. It is an MSI and we created one package but getting different results on different machines, some are restarting, others are closing Outlook to uninstall the
previous version 9.0.2. Any help would be great.
thanks
Pat

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I checked our approach for this EV8 -> EV10 Outlook Addin upgrade, and we just executed the newer MSI over the top of the old EV8 client install.
It looks like we modified the MSI a little bit, not sure exactly what we did that for.
we just launch msiexec /i "Symantec EV Outlook addin.msi" MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL=DISABLE /reboot=ReallySuppress
(we found this information in the EV documentation e.g. EV10.0.4-Setting_up_Exchange_Server_Archiving.pdf )
probably here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7414
Symantec also mention some details in there about open file handling, which can trigger the need for a restart or prompt the user...
We don't have any other scripting or pre-requisites or dependencies or anything.

  • Error "you cannot copy an enterprise vault shortcut" in outlook 2007 calendar

I am trying to copy a meeting from a calendar in outlook 2007 that my co-worker has shared with me over to my calendar. I used to be able to just drag and drop it on my calendar and it would make a copy. Now every time I try to copy anything I get this
error "you cannot copy an enterprise vault shortcut" you can restore the item and then copy the restored item. Why am I getting this and how can I stop it or even how can I "restore" the item and get around it.

If your organisation uses the Symantec Enterprise Vault product, this seems to be a known issue:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH143955
You should have your email administrator check into this with Symantec (it's not a Microsoft product issue)

  • Issue with opening .PDF files after recalling from Symantec Enterprise Vault

    Good Morning,
I am having issues with opening PDF files that have been recalled from Symantec Enterprise Vault and some of the files are anywhere from 3-4 years old.  Some files open, while others return the error: Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is not a supported file type or might have been damaged.  It is inconsistent as to which files it occurs with.  I am not ready to believe that I have that many corrupt files out there.  I am opening them on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 desktop. Adobe 10.1.7. I have already configured the registry setting for bValidateBytesBeforeHeader that I found in another article to no avail.
The files are on a network share, but I also tried copying them to my local desktop and still received the error.
I have seen other posts regarding this error, but do not see a definitive solution and am hoping that in recent days someone has come up with a solution.
    Thank You
    Brian Dougherty

Not supported file type can (but not always) mean the PDF was created with an old enough version of Acrobat, that it isn't comaptible with reader X or XI.
Might have been damaged is pretty cut and dried in its meaning and interpretation.
There's a known issue with Mac OS and Safari Browser "breaking" PDFs as they download, but it's not so common for Windows. Since these are files you already had, it would be even less applicable.
You can try downloading an older version of Reader to check if it's a compatibility issue, but you'd have to uninstall the latest to do it and it'd be a lot of bother if they still don't open. It would also mean they are "broken" and cannot be repaired, that I know of.

  • Migrating emails from Symantec Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online

    Hi
I am in the process of planning a migration from on-premises Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online in Office 365. The on-premises Exchange environment is using Symantec Enterprise Vault v9 for archiving emails older than a certain number of months.
I am planning to use the cutover migration method to migrate mailboxes to Exchange Online. What is the best way to migrate email from Enterprise Vault to Exchange Online? Will the E-mail Migration Tool in Exchange Control Panel do the job or will a third
party tool need to be used?

You have a few options ...
a/ Export all the mail from each archive to a PST file, and then import that in to Exchange, or Office 365.
b/ Export all the mail from each archive back to the original mailbox.
c/ Use a third party tool, like Archive Shuttle from QUADROtech which can migrate directly to Office 365 from Enterprise Vault.
    Hope that helps,
There are other migration solutions out there as well from TransVault and NUIX.

  • Support for Symantec Enterprise Vault?

    Hello,
I have EV2007 running against an Exchange 2003 server. EV is configured to archive messages after two  months. I also have the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).
Problem is that when EV archives a message, it changes the state of the message so that BIS thinks it's a new message - and pushes it to my Blackberry again
I guess that EV is changing the "last modified" field on the message in Exchange and that is causing IMAP to report it as being new plus the original senders get a second delivery report back from the Blackberry!
Has anyone seen this before and found a workaround?  I'm also told that the issue remains whether or not you are running the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
I've contacted Symantec regarding this and was told that they have been trying to work with RIM on this but RIM has been less than cooperative.
    Thanks.

well if symantec is changing the state of the message; symantec is the culprit here not BIS. I dont think RIM will change BIS setup just for syamntec ( there wont be many users is symantec/bis setup out there). Regardless this is Symantec issue.
The statement about BlackBerry enterprise server might not be true though, i dont expect it to re-push message to BB if you were running BES. You can test this by installing BBProfessional software, which is a free download for one user.

  • Add-In for Virtualized Outlook 2013

I have downloaded the App-V 5 SP2 version of Office 2013 by following the instructions on the Microsoft site
http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn481351.aspx?ocid=wc-bl-sprblog and the applications are loading successfully. But when I tried to add Enterprise Vault using a connection
group, the add-in does not load when Outlook 2013 is opened. I can see the App-V connection group folder as well as the EV client folder, but the add-in is not available in Outlook.
I followed the instructions on the following sites for updating Add-Ins in virtualized office 2013, but still the add-in is not available in Outlook 2013.

A separate App-V 5 SP2 package of Enterprise Vault was linked to the Office 2010 SP2 package using a connection group and it loads successfully.
Any idea what could be blocking the add-in from loading when Outlook 2013 is opened?

  • Outlook 2010 email body missing parts

Some of our users are having issues viewing their old emails kept inside the inbox.
    The email body is missing.
This emails are old and have been archived into Enterprise Vault, but recently have had issues.

Please try to select the email body by pressing Ctrl+A to see if the automatic font colour changes to white. If this is the case, you might need to update the setting.
If it's not a font issue, please try below workarounds:
Please check if users have any antivirus add-ins intergrated with their Outlook. If yes, please try to disable them temporarily, then check messages again.
Check the view settings to see if there are any corrupted views caused this issue. Try outlook.exe /cleanviews
Please have a try and feel free to post back.

  • [Outlook 2013] Apps for Office and Internet Explorer 11 (IE11)

    We have the following configuration:
    Windows 7 Professional,
    Internet Explorer 11,
    Microsoft Office 2013 (32-bit),
    Microsoft Exchange 2013 CU6,
    Symantec Enterprise Vault 11.
Patch level Microsoft Until 03-oct-2014, so very very recent.
What is the problem, in Exchange its possible to use "Office Web Apps" for integration with OWA. This works very good and we dont have any problems with OWA and the Office Web Apps within OWA Enterprise client.
But, in Outlook 2013, almost every "App for Office" crashes with a popup from Internet Explorer 11. When we open the App, we get a loading.... and after a while A popup with the message "Internet Exporer stopped working".
This is with every App i tested. And it can be reproduced.
    What we tried:
    Proxy settings;
    Re-install Office 2013;
    Internet Zone settings;
    Browser compatibility modus with zones;
    Reset internet explorer settings;
    Various reg-hacks for IE security;
GPO settings for untrusted locations of Office Web Apps.
    And lucky? No.
So we went back to IE9, and it works like a charm. No problems at all. But Unfortunately, IE9 is not an option due to company apps written for IE10+.
But when it works outside Outlook 2013 in IE11, but not inside outlook with IE11, there must be a problem somewhere with Outlook 2013/IE 11 integration. And actually, the currents Apps we don't need in Outlook 2013 (until snd quarter 2015, then we need them).
So for this time we configured "Block Apps for Office" GPO setting and depoyed it. And... In Every Office components Apps are disabled, but NOT in Outlook. So the GPO is not working for Outlook.
    How to solve?

Here the procesmon dump where IE actually crashes...

  • Adobe Reader & Outlook 2003/2007 send to email

I have multiple Windows XP users experiencing this problem when trying to send and PDF file through email.
    Adobe-File-send through email.
Adobe and the email gets locked up with the following error message:
"Microsoft Office Outlook, The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your connections and try again."
It seems that if the users send the email within 30 seconds the email sends ok but if the wait past 30 - 60 seconds thats when the above error occurs.
Microsoft said this an adobe issue and Adobe said they had the fix for Acrobat users to upgrade to version 9 but when I told them I'm using Adobe reader 9 and I have the same problem they told me adobe reader users have to use the forums for support.???
Has anybody seen this before and have you found a workaround?

I have been seeing this off and on. It is rarely consistent and I have been waiting to find a PC that could reproduce this. I finally got one and was able to reproduce the issue about a dozen times back to back, often when the message has been open for a couple minutes. I have been using Windows Debug tools to isolate the culprit and capture a dmp file to analyze. In each instance of the problem a hang is produced after clicking OK to the message. This is where I have been starting the capture. In our case all the dumps of outlook.exe show the culprit as being valkyrie.dll, an add-in associated with Symantec Enterprise Vault. After disabling the add-in, the issue could not be reproduced. I am not 100% convinced though. I would like to know if other dumps outside of our environment point to the same culprit.
To capture a dmp file you will need to install the debugging tools for windows from Microsoft. Once installed, go into the folder where it is installed (C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x86) by default) and run adplus.vbs. Dont worry about the details now, just click OK or Yes to the prompts. You will use adplus from the command line when the issue happens. To do this:
Create the problem and click OK to the "The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check your connections and try again". Outlook should become unresponsive/hung up.
Open command window (Start>Run and type cmd).
Navigate to the folder where the debugging tools were installed (cd c:\program files\debugginf tools for windows (x86))
Create a dmp file by running the following: adplus -hang -pn outlook.exe(-hang will tell adplus that a there is a hung application you wish to dump and -pn specifies the process name)
A dialog box will indicate that a folder has been created in the windows debugging folder. It will be named something like Hang_Mode__Date_... The date and time will correspond to the date and time of when the dump took place. Go into this folder and verify there is a .dmp file. The name of the file corresponds to the process ID of the process, the process name, and date and time. The file can be fairly large since it consists of a memory dump.
To analyze this file, open Windbg from the exe or from Start>Programs>Debugging Tools for Windows>WinDbg.
Go to File>Open Crash Dump and locate the file above.
Dont worry about all the jiberish you initially see. In the empty line at the bottom run the following command: !analyze -v. While the file is being analyzed, the status message will say BUSY. Dont worry about the "Error: Symbol file could not be found..."
Look for the FAULTING_MODULE and MODULE_NAME. In our case the culprit this was ntdll and Valkyrie. As mentioned above, Valkyrie.dll is associated with the Symantec Enterprise add-in and this is what we are currently looking at with Symantec.
This is an example of the dump:
I would be interested to know what results you have found.

  • Outlook crash when using Attach to Email...

Strange problem occurring when attempting to email a pdf.
I have the document open in Acrobat. I hit the Attach to Email button and a new Outlook email window opens and attaches the pdf. No problem there.
I fill in the addressee name and then begin to write my preamble. If I send RIGHT AWAY, the email goes without a problem.
If I take more than 30 to 45 seconds, a timeout of some kind occurs and Outlook crashes the second I hit the Send button.
This issue has happened to myself and several users in-house on various occasions, never predictable and random. It has gotten to the point that we are afraid to leave the email and just power it out quickly, hoping that Outlook won't crash.
We are all using Outlook 2003 and Acrobat 8 Standard, fully updated and current.
    Some help would be appreciated.

  • Sync my iCal in between iPhone and Outlook 2010 on Win7

    Hi,
I have an iPhone4 running iOS5.1.1 (as of today) and an iCloud account.
My iPhone calendar (iCal) is synched with iCloud calendar.
My business PC is running Win7 and Outlook 2010.
My compagny has selected Google Enterprise to provide all the mail services.
As such, I have a Google deamon running on my PC to sync my emails in between Google GMail Enterprise and Outlook 2010.
Please notice, that, due to security rules, I can not symply enter my Gmail Google Enterprise IDs on my iPhone to get it synched with GMail...
As such, to get at least my professional calendar on my iPhone iCal, I was using a cable connexion in between the PC USB port and the iPhone, and running iTunes sync.
I though it was paintfull, and I though iCloud was able to do so.
As such, I installed iCloud Dashboard and my PC and started to configure it to sync my Outlook 2010 calendar (at least) with iCloud.
I successfully entered my iCloud AppleID, and arrived on the configuration of the sync.
Despite all the tests I run (connected from the office or from home), I not able to get it working as I am always getting an error message from iCloud dashboard:
"Your configuration can not start as an unexpected event"
Any clue on what's going on?
Any idea on what I can test more?
    Best Regards
    Arno

yes they were set to the same timezone - which puzzled me a lot...
I lost a lot of sleep, but I can now say that I have solved the problem...
What I did was, that I un-installed microsoft office (desperate I know!) - then ran a sync with the iPhone choosing to overwrite the Calendar in the phone - as there was no calendar present - it deleted what was on the phone. Then I re-installed Microsoft office, by doing that, I didn't loose anything because the user files was still present including mail setting etc. - resynced the iPhone - and now it works...
Just can't figure out what went wrong in the first place...
    thank you for your answer

  • ICal is publishing holidays in addition to calendar to Outlook

I am using a utility called "iCal to Outlook" which picks up a published calendar from MobileMe and imports it into Outlook. I find it a great way to consolidate my personal calendar into Outlook at work, in order to see all events, and avoid double-booking.
However, for some reason, iCal seems to be "publishing" not only the calendar I have selected and designated to be published, but it is also including the Holiday calendar that I have subscribed to. The good news is that Outlook seems to recognize this and strips out the holidays and places them in the "Deleted Items" folder. The bad news is that at each scheduled update, Outlook goes thru this process and the cursor blinks the entire time while some 60 or so holidays are processed and placed in the trash, not to mention that this loads up the trash folder. Also, the holidays don't show up in MobileMe, since they are not supposed to. Is this a bug introduced in an upgrade to allow publishing of subscribed calendars?
Any idea why iCal is adding the Holidays to my published Calendar?
    Dave

    Hello,
There is a simple utility called "iCal to Outlook" which is a plugin for Outlook.
First you publish your calendar(s) to MobileMe or to a server, then you point the plugin in Outlook to go retrieve the published calendar at whatever frequency you desire. If you set the iCal publish preference to "automatically update" and the Outlook frequency to hourly or something, it will work just like synching to an iPhone or any other Apple device.

  • HT4528 I can read email (outlook) but if I get a response or subsequent emails with the same subject, I can not open them, I have an iPhone 5S

I receive fresh emails from the enterprise server (outlook) but, if I receive a response I can not open that email or the original one.  Also my outlook calendar does not update to today's date and it does not sync to my enterprise server calendar.  All of this used to work fine before.

Have you consulted your IT department about these issues?

  • Where is the iDS 5.1 plugin API Reference?

Does anybody know when there will be a iDS 5.1 reference guide for the plugin API.
Especially in light of the examples telling you to refer to them?
Looking through the header files, I've noticed that many functions from the version 4 SLAPI are deprecated, yet the new ones aren't documented anywhere I can find. I've checked iplanet.com, netscape.com, mozilla.org - nada, zilch!
I need to port a plugin from NDS 4.x to iDS 5.1 and I'm worried that using the deprecated 4.x routines will blow up in my face.
Does anyone have a pointer to the updated docs, or if they don't exist yet is there a date on when they'll be out? (not that it would help me - this plugin needs to be ported by WE 04-21-2002).
    Thanks
    Mike Hoffman

mmm, I thought the plugin api was supported and documented for 5.1 - at least that is what was promised, but it looks like the docs may have been pulled. It is possible of course that it is just hard to find.
I would contact iPlanet support to find out the current situation. In the mean time, if you want to get on with things and are prepared to take the risk that the current 5.1 api will not be honoured in future iDs versions, you could use the Netscape 6.0 plugin programmers reference which documents the same interfaces:
    http://enterprise.netscape.com/docs/directory/601/plugin/contents.htm
