  • "Look for libraries to share" does not appear in the Shared pane under preferences.  I'm trying to see my fiances shared library.  She can see mine. I have selected share entire library.  Help please!

Cannot see my fiance's library but she can see mine.  Checked all appropriate boxes to share entire library.  Help syays to check under Shared which does not even appear anywhere.  It also said to check the "Look for share libraries" under shared pane which also does not exit in that pane. I am Windows 7 and she is Macbook.  Thanks

I'm using an Airport Extreme, and I'm not aware of UPnP settings in the Airport Utility.
On the Mac, I set up a Parallels Vista instance in bridged mode and verified that I can see the other Vista PC share folders, so I know that the Vista PC has been set up correctly.
Additionally, as mentioned before, I switched DNS Servers several times, but settled on an alternative Rogers DNS to avoid their awful failed lookup ad page (64.71.255.202 if anyone needs it).
I also tried adding the Vista PC IP to my Mac hosts file, which oddly showed the Mac on the Vista side, but nothing on the Mac side.
I also goofed around in the smb.conf file with some settings, but alas, nada.
The only thing that might explain why the Airport Express network (Vista, XP) provided me with shares in the sidebar and not my own Airport Extreme network (just Vista) could be that it's a master browser issue. I saw a couple of posts about this.
If the Vista machine is the master browser, nothing will show in the sidebar, but if XP or a Mac is the master browser, then the sidebar will show shares. I don't have a way to verify this as I'm not sure how to force one machine to be a master browser over another. I'm suspicious if this will do anything as I've found other posts saying exactly the opposite scenario.
Is there anyone out there that has had a network, possibly with Airport Extreme, one Mac (Leopard), one Vista PC, and Vista share is showing in the Finder sidebar?

  • Entire library deleted on time machine

my entire library on my time machine was erased after I got a message saying time machine needs to back up in different location, so I followed the prompts and it deleted my entire library not just old back ups. Can I get them back?

Time Machine will only delete its own sparsebundle.
What do you mean it deleted your entire library? It will only have done that if it was part of the TM backup or you loaded it in the wrong place, ie inside the TM sparsebundle.
Now that it is deleted.. stop using the disk immediately.. if it has done a backup you are probably already too late.
The only way to recover is to physically remove the drive from the TC.
    See http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule for instructions
Plug the drive into your computer using a USB hard disk shell..
And you can run a disk recovery software on the computer.. disk warrior or data rescue 3 are the best known Mac ones.. they will cost you around $100.. and you will need another USB disk to recover the files to unless the Mac has a large partition you can use.
Otherwise it has to go to data recovery people and spend your money.. up to $1000 for recovery but be warned.. if TM already completed a full backup you might be wasting your money.. there are no guarantees in recovery.
BTW .. this is why we tell people never store files on the TC.

  • Entire library deleted.

    Hello,
I recently built myself a new computer due to the fact that my old one was almost 5 years old, and I needed an upgrade. After getting the new one up and running, I hooked up my iPod mini to a USB port, and it cleaned out my entire library on iTunes and my iPod. I now have lost ym contacts, all 200 songs in iTunes and my iPod, and have also lost all of my purchased songs as well.
I tried to search my purchased songs, and iTunes told me that they were verified, but would not restore them to my library even though I was logged in and had already authorized this computer to play songs in my iTunes.
Is there any way to restore my library, and furthermore, why should I have to put up with this garbage when iTunes totes around proclaiming that it is easy to use your iPod from one computer to another?

If you goto My Music/iTunes Folder and there is no "iTUnes Music" folder there, this could of happened many ways. It could of been malware or a virus or it could of got corrupt or been on a bad sector on your drive. If it was on a bad sector or corrupt it could of forced Windows into a "Error Checking" mode when you rebooted or started up and windows seleted it.
If you can open iTUnes, it should create a "iTUnes Library" File in my music/iTUnes. More about the library file can be read here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
WHat you first need to do is search the system for the "iTunes Music" folder and/or your purchased music by searching for "All Files and folders" and typing in ".m4p" and see if maybe somehow the folder and/or music was moved to another location.
If a search in windows pulls up nothing you will first want to see if you can open iTunes and if it creates a library file in its default location before hooking up or copying from the iPod, you don't want to copy from it only to have it wiped out again, also scan the system for viruses with antivirus, and scan for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

  • Library deleted - HELP?

I've stupidly deleted my music files from the iTunes music folder (yes, even deleted it from Trash!).
Can I re-import the files from my iPod Nano back to my iBook, provided that I haven't auto-sync the iPod when I connected it to the iBook?
Appreciate any help - feeling a bit queasy thinking about re-downloading all the files again!

There are a bunch of good programs that will help you get your music back. There's iPodRip, iPod->Folder, and iPodCopy.
These are shareware not freeware, but they may have free trials.
    Hope this helps,
    Lita

  • My ENTIRE library disappeared - HELP!!

My son turned his Ipod on last night and all of his music was gone - all of it. The battery was charged, so it wasn't that. I tried to reload the music twice and both times I-tunes said it was updated and complete, yet when I turn it on it is still empty. Any ideas?

Donn, welcome to discussions! When iTunes indicates a successful sync, but there is no music on iPod, I think this link may be helpful.

  • I think I deleted my entire library...help!

I had an entire library from burning CDs and downloading songs from itunes. Then one day I wanted to download but had to upgrade to 6.0. For some unknown reason, my computer wouldn't let me upgrade so I just re-installed it all together. Now I can't access itunes at all. I'm guessing there's no way to get my songs back on my computer, and worse, now if I ever plug in my ipod to my computer all of the songs will be deleted? Is there something I can do?

Click on the File on the iTunes task bar and click on ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY. iTunes does not hold and save your music, your hard drive does that. iTunes only holds the file paths to reference the songs by.
Oh, and are you havintg trouble DLing iTunes completely? Are you getting any error messages? Please give me more info about what is going on when trying to DL iTunes. Also, what antivirus and firewall programs do you use on your PC? I guess I am kinda confused about what your question is....

  • Please help before it kills my entire library!

I’m sure this has come up before but I have to ask.
When I add new songs to my iTunes, it will “misplace” older ones and adds exclamation points to them?
At first I thought this was because I had to have my hard drive replaced and it lost the original songs but the more songs I add, the more get “lost” and now its started to affect the songs that I have purchased from iTunes recently so I KNOW its not due to the hard drive replacement. What can I do? Way too many of my songs are exclamationed now. I backed up the list several weeks ago because I had a suspicion this was what was wrong. The weird part is, even though the songs are gone in iTunes, it doesn’t delete them from the iPod. Even if I clear those songs. It will add the new ones just fine, but it won’t delete the old ones. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason to the deletion of my songs. They just go as I add more. I have 330 songs and 70 of them are exclamationed. I had more but started deleting them before I figured out what was happening. So far, I seems to only happen when I add new music, no matter where its from. It even happens when I purchase from iTunes. Please help before it kills my entire library!
I have an 8 gig iPod so I know its not because its full. Oh, and Im running on an older Gateway, but I can’t even begin to tell you what year or anything and OS is Windows XP Pro. I also have the latest version of iTunes and update regularly. Any other info you need?
I haven’t needed to lately, but Im scared for if I need to restore my iPod. (I have had to do it once before) Im sure that it will delete the songs that have been preserved that were deleted on the tunes. One more thing, it APPEARS to be mixing up the artwork on the iPod itself with other artists. For example, my Kerli artwork is now my Matchbox 20 artwork and so on. That problem is only with a few songs though.
Any ideas? Thanks SO much for trying to help!

Check your Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Music folder location to make sure that it is correct. Also, is "Keep iTunes Music folder organized checked"? Have you tried to Consolidate Library? (Note: I'm not saying to do that, yet, just asking if you have.) Have you used Windows Explorer to actually locate your music?
I've seen where iTunes could be "missing" a song but not indicate it with the exclamation mark until some action is attempted -- moving, dragging, playing. For me it would be because I forgot to turn on the external drive where my music is stored. But then, once I mount the drive, I still have to point iTunes to its Music folder again.

  • Converted the id3 tags of my entire library, now stuck with duplicates of everything. can i sort by id3 tag version or something to easily delete duplicates?

    help!!!
i have about 6000 tracks that just became 12000

Hold down the SHIFT key and then select File > Display Exact Duplicates. This gives a list of all tracks where more than one track has essentially the same metadata, name, track no., artist, album, etc. Actually, if you know everything has been doubled then I guess you skip that step...
If the duplicates have been recently added into your library as a job lot then you can sort the list on the date added column, select a range of tracks with SHIFT-click and delete all the recent entries. Please check however that there really are two copies of each file before deciding whether to delete the files as well as the entries from the database - get it wrong and you could delete your entire library!

  • Please help - entire library is missing

    Hello guys,
I am currently experiencing some problems with iTunes, I hope someone can help me. After not having used my PC since September, I accessed it yesterday. After installing the iTunes update, everything was still normal, but after the computer had to be restarted for the HP update, ALL my media files are gone. Not only is the library wiped, the actual folder where the file should be is empty.
I will explain what I did below.
Also, please excuse my English, it's not my first language.
Okay, then let me explain my problem from the beginning. Maybe someone can tell me what I did wrong.
I am from Germany, but I am currently in the US as an exchange student. At home, I used a HP PC with Vista, but I decided to buy a little netbook (Asus eeePC)to take with me. The most important thing for me was (and still is) my music, my iTunes library. It is 86.4 GB big and consists of everything; songs, TV-shows, movies, apps, podcasts, audiobooks - you name it. In short, it's the result of years of listening to and collecting music; and it's not mine alone, the whole family uses it. I researched ways to copy my library unto my new netbook, but with a file that size, it's not that easy. Eventually, I decided to use a backup and re-create the library on the netbook. However, this did, for reasons unknown to me, not work, the backup was (from the 2nd disc on) unreadable. I created 2 more backups, tried to read them with different PCs - the same problem every time.
Finally, I had to leave without having accomplished anything. But I took my iPod touch with me, it had most of the files on it. I hoped that I could somehow transfer the files from my iPod. However, shortly after I arrived, it was stolen. I bought a new one, but of course all the files on it are gone.
In he meantime, my family at home created a new backup and send it to me - but this one, again, is not readable. Now I researched other possible ways on how to get my files over here. I decided to use a torrent this time. I had someone install a VNC client on my PC so I can access it from here, and then I installed utorrent and created a torrent from my entire library, send it to myself per e-mail and started downloading on my netbook. I was really happy to finally have found a way - but I should be wrong.
Since I had access to my iTunes after so much time, I decided to open iTunes and listen to a few songs. However, as my PC has not been used since I left in September, there were some available updates. Unsuspecting, I installed the new iTunes version and also a HP update. After the iTunes update everything was still okay, but after the PC had to be restarted for the HP update to work, my entire library was gone! And I checked, not only is the library empty, but the actual song-file is gone, meaning when I open, eg, "C:\Users\Chris\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Linkin Park\Meteora" the folder is totally empty.
That's how it is now. I decided not to do anything big, as I am afraid I'll mess it up even worse (though I don't think that's quite possible - there is nothing to mess up left, afterall).
Please please please, can somebody help me?

If you don't have any other back up, and the torrent files you sent to yourself are gone, then your music is gone.
Nobody can help you recover data that no longer exists, but I can offer some sympathy. Sorry to read your story.

  • I accidentally deleted my whole i tune library. I was able to retrieve the entire library, but all my play lists have dissapeared and iTunes says that my ipod is not synced with this computer. Can i sync my playlists from my ipod to my itunes?

i accadentally deleted my entire library (over 10,000 song) when i was trying to delete an old back up file off an external hard drive. Now when i open I Tunes and connect my ipod, a message says tht my ipod is not synced with this computer. This is the only computer this ipod has ever been synced to, so i don't know how to reconnect the two. I was able to restore all my music to the itunes library, but I lost all my playlists. I spent considerable time creating the playlists and they are stll on my ipod. Can I somehow sync in a way that my ipod can give the computer my play lists?

With your iPod connected to iTunes right->click on it's device name in the left hand pane of iTunes under devices and select Export Playlists.

  • IPhoto Trash Can deleted my entire library

I bought a brand new 27" iMac at the end of Oct 2010, which came pre-loaded with iPhoto '11 (Version 9.1 (475). I copied photos from my old iMac onto CD-ROMS and then imported them directly into my brand new iPhoto '11 by the select, drag and drop method. I deleted maybe 5 photos which the trash can correctly counted. However, when I deleted my trash can, it included ALL the photos in my entire iPhoto library (4000+) and deleted my entire library. These photos were not visible in the trash can before I hit the delete button.
After that happened, I thought maybe I did something wrong, so I manually transferred the photos to my iPhoto '11 all over again. This time, photos which I haven't even deleted appear in the trash can and when you try to empty the trash can, the message says something like "Are you sure you want to delete 4000 photos?" (i.e. my entire library). Plus it seems that I can't manually move things out of the trash can because they just magically reappear in the trash again. Why is this happening?
BTW I just downloaded and installed the latest iPhoto update, but the problem still persists.
As a side note, before deleting my iPhoto library, I had used Migration Assistant to transfer some files from my old iMac G5 (circa 2005/2006) to my new iMac using a firewire cable. However, as I did not transfer any applications, I don't think this would have affected my iPhoto '11, right? It was only after I noticed that my iPhoto library didn't get transferred to my new iMac that I decided to import photos to my new iPhoto '11 manually.
Apple products seem to be getting worse. I've filed a report with Apple, so hopefully they can fix the software. But what can I do in the meantime?

same thing here. out of the clear blue my trash said it had 800 photos in it (my library has 9000 photos in it). I looked at the ones in the trash and they appeared to be still in the real album, as though I had duplicated some of my photos then trashed them. If i tried to empty iPhoto trash it asked me if I wanted to delete my entire 9000 photos (even though only 800 were in iPhoto trash).
I rebuilt the entire iPhoto album (option command button on launching iPhoto) and picked all rebuild etc. options, took a couple hours) but the problem persisted. Fortunately I was totally backed up from a day or so ago, I checked the backup to make sure it did not have the trash problem, and then had iPhoto empty the trash of the one with with trash problem, and like others it dumped the entire iPhoto library! Yikes
Now there are 2 things on my computer that i could not afford to lose, 20 years of photos, and 20 years of quicken data, so I am VERY careful with those, and fortunately it paid off.My back-up is good and I rebacked up that file, but what a disaster that would have been had I lost all m photos.
so, This is not a minor glitch but a huge software issue that has to be fixed fast, not everyone, despite being told so, has good regular back-ups.

  • If I've downloaded my music to an itunes library from an external hard drive and I have several duplicate songs, is there an easy way to delete the duplicate songs? Or, do I have to go through my entire library song by song to delete duplicates?

This is no longer done via iTunes.
Use whatever CD/DVD burner software is installed on your computer.
Add the iTunes media folder to the list of files/folders to burn to disc.

  • I updated my ipod and it deleted my entire library how do I restore it with the backup I have saved?

I updated my ipod and it deleted my entire library.  How do I restore it with the backup I have so all songs will be available in the cloud; which I paid extra Money to increase memory for?

The backup that iTunes makes does not include apps, music, synced videos and photos. Se:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
You will have to sync the items back form yur computer/iTunes library to the iPod via iTunes. If they are not on the computer you can redownloa d some iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
