Entourage 2004 Calendar extremely slow in Snow Leopard

Both my boss and I are having the same issue since we upgraded to Snow Leopard - our calendars in Entourage take much longer to load and to go from one day/week/month to the next. I've been told that this is a Snow Leopard issue. Anyone have a suggestion for a fix?

I'm having the same problem - even though I've now upgraded my MacBook pro to 4GB of RAM, so it isn't a memory issue.
If you look at Activity Monitor as you open the calendar or move between weeks you can see that Entourage & the Database Deamon are using up a lot of the processor - I just did a switch from contact view to calendar view and initially entourage was using up 99% of the processor capacity, then the Database deamon came in as well. It looks like it could be a problem with Rosetta under 10.6.1?
I wonder if there is any chance that 10.6.2 will correct this....

  • Network connection extremely slow after snow leopard upgrade

I should first state that my son's new Intel Mac Mini (2009 model) is working fine without any issues - it is on the "n" band. My wife's macbook (on Leopard) and my Thinkpad are continuing to work fine - both connecting to the "g" band of my Simultaneous Dual band AEBS.
On my 2008 model mac mini, the installation went thru fine, but the network connection is extremely slow - it is connecting using the "g" band. Even when I launch the Airport utility, it takes a while to locate the AEBS and then when I click on "Manual Setup", it takes a very very long time to read the configuration. This tells me that the airport interface on the mac mini has some driver issue.
I tried all the suggestions given in other threads (listed below), but none of them worked.
    1. Created a new network location and rebooted
    2. Trashed the com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist and rebooted
    3. Rebooted countless number of times - illogical, but that kicks in when I can't find a solution.
It is past midnight here (20miles from Apple headquarter). Going to wait for another 30minutes. After that, I will use SuperDuper to install my Leopard back on my mac mini which I had cloned before starting the installation.
Appreciate any suggestions - I am open to any prayer solution as well! If not, the Snow Leopard family pack is going back to the Apple store on Monday.
Just saw at engadget: "On a 17-inch unibody we were putting through the paces, the WiFi inexplicably has gone out and we have yet to get it working again."

Some more info about my setup:
    *Simultaneous Dual band AEBS:*
    Radio Mode: 802.11n only (5 GHz) - 802.11b/g
    Radio Channel Selection: Manual - 161 (5GHz), 6(2.4GHz)
    *Airport Express:*
Wireless mode: Extend a wireless network
Allow wireless clients checked under the name of the network (same as for AEBS).
Both are WPA/WPA2 Personal security. And both the routers were upgraded to 7.4.2 firmware this morning with the hope that it will help.
    *N Devices (both working fine):*
    Apple TV 40GB
2009 Model Mac Mini upgraded to Snow Leopard - working perfectly.
    *G Devices:*
    Thinkpad running WinXP
    Dell Laptop running WinXP
    Acer Netbook running WinXP
    iPod Touch
    iPhone 3G
    Linksys webcam
_All of the above are working fine_.
+2008 model Mac mini -+ upgrade to Snow Leopard shows extremely slow wifi connection that it is unusable. It takes 20min to load apple homepage. When I boot from the clone of my Leopard lying on my external drive, it works perfectly.
I compared the settings between all the tabs of Network-->Airport-->Advanced and they are identical between Snow Leopard and Leopard mode except that SL doesn't have the "Apple Talk" tab.
Appreciate any help to debug this.

  • Export from FCE extremely slow after Snow leopard install

Instead of increasing my export times from FCE Snow Leopard has made them slower by a factor of ten. It is taking an hour to convert 3 minutes of 1080i to 720p !!!!! On an 8 core machine !!!
I am exporting 1080i to 720p with a bitrate of about 2000 for uploads to Utube. I tried using QT10 for export but I am not happy with the loss of control over my exports, it does work but not directly from FCE. The process called by QT10 is very fast and uses all 8 cores, but that process is not being called by FCE.
So at this point I wish I had never gone for the upgrade.
Lots of crashes with QT 7 during the open file dialogue and also same problem with MPEGStream Clip crashing on the file open dialogue as well after this OS upgrade

I may not be having a snow leopard problem at all.
Going back to an old project in 1080i of an 8 minute length. the estimated time to render is about 50 minutes it says @20% of the way thru. Thats about 6x real time.
Maybe thats what I should expect. I was hoping for a significant speed increase in rendering times with the new OS. What is teh factor averaging for other people ?
I am rendering down to 720p multi pass 2320 kbit rate .MP4 in h.264
Maybe I have a settings problem in project properties in my other project.
I also got inspired and moved the render folders to a separate disk from the source files and put the caches on a 3rd drive. my I/O readings now are at 60 reads/sec.
Thanks for helping me work this issue out with you guys. Will keep you posted.

Why is Mac OS X 10.7 so much slower than Snow Leopard? It isnt smooth, applications are slow and most dont respond, and dowloads take hours, not minutes.

Something is seriously wrong with your installation or you are critically low on RAM, like below 2 GB.
How much RAM is in your machine?
    Have you tried a Recovery?

  • Why is emptying trash so slow in Snow Leopard??

Why is emptying trash so slow in Snow Leopard!?
    t

Have you just upgraded by the sound of it? Snow Leopard's trash is fine here.
Check to see if your Finder Preferences > Advanced tab has Empty Trash securely selected. That will slow things down. If so, deselect it to speed things up.

  • Synching iCal with iPhone calendar through iTunes on Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I've seen some threads on in similar matters but none of them related to this problem:
I can't seem to sync my iPhone's calender and iCal throught iTunes. I CAN'T sync the two using iCloud, because I'm using Mac with Snow Leopard, which doesn't support iCloud.
I'm using iTunes 11.1.4, and when I go to the info tab on iTunes in order to sync the calenders, there are no options to choose. It simply says: "Your calenders are being synced with your iPhone over the air using iCloud, Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPhone".
I would rather not upgrade my OS unless I must. I'm using a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1.4 and iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.4.
    Thank you for your help!
    Daniel

    Hi danielshachar!
It sounds like the settings in your phone may be prompting iTunes to report that your contacts and calendars are being synced through iCloud. Use the information in the following article to adjust this setting so that you can sync your contacts and calendars through iTunes instead:

  • How to setup airport extreme A1034 using snow leopard?

I bought a used Airport Extreme A1034 and, barring that it is not broken, am I able to set it up as wireless base station?  I am using snow leopard, I currently use an airport express as a wireless router.  I cannot get the airport extreme to appear in my airport utility wirelessly.  It will appear in the airport utility if it is connect to my Mac via ethernet, but when I go to save the settings and the device goes to reseet, it just does not come back online.  I have done numerous factory default resets.  Any advice?

Please check out the following Apple Support article on how to configure a WDS.

  • Quicken 2004  crashes on opening in Snow Leopard

We just upgraded to snow leopard and now we cannot open Quicken 2004 to access our financials. We tried Rosetta but no luck. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Buy Quicken 2007, quicken essentials for mac is a joke. This is the first Quicken product that I invoked the 100% satisfaction guarantee and I received a full refund for ES. Since I downloaded the product I did have any shipping charges to return ES. I have used Quicken since the early 90's (before that I uses a product called "Dollars & Sense" by Monogram, which I thought was a very good program.)
Quicken Essentials for Mac is Intuit's version of Ford's; Edsel or Coke's; New Coke.

  • Printing slow after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Hi! Newbie here! I recently upgraded my 2007 iMac to Snow Leopard and as a result my Canon BJC-2100 printer has slowed to a crawl. It seems the software adjusted the print quality to the sharpest setting but this also slowed the process way down. I don't see anything to help me adjust the print quality or otherwise change the printing speed.
I would love to hear from forum members as to how to speed the printing back up a bit. Am I doomed to have to buy another printer?
    Thank you!

Thanks. Yes I went to Canon's web site and plugged in Snow Leopard for my printer. I received the following message:
"There is no driver for the OS version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver."
Too bad there doesn't seem a way for me to change the printer's settings back to the way it was.

  • Aperture is very slow with Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I updated my MyBook with Snow Leopard. The (big) problem is that Aperture 2.1.4 is now very slow when I make change to images. CPU usage is very high and Aperture is unusable.
    What can I do?
    Thanks in advance.

zemitch - I also use one of the slowest machines capable of running SL, but my your graphics card may be different than mine. But I also store my masters on an external drive and that wasn't the issue.
I found rebuilding the database of Aperture when starting up helps a bit, but the biggest improvement is to do cropping/straightening AFTER the other adjustments. That changes my workflow, but with no crop/straighten, the other adjustments didn't not show the horrible slowdown.
    See if that helps you.

  • Calendar extremely slow on 9300i

The access to the calendar in my 9300i is extremely slow, almost useless. Any idea on how to speed up it???

How much data have you got on the phone?
You could either try reducing the quantity of data you have if you have loads, or you could try backing up your phone, formatting it and then restoring the backup to see if that helps get it back to its usual self...
To format the communicator, remove and then replace the battery. Then when you see the word Nokia in blue on the inside screen, hold down the ctrl, shift and F keys simultaneously. After the word Nokia disappears and before the Nokia handshake logo appears, you should be given the option to completely format the device .
ALL DATA on the phone memory will be completely erased and the original settings restored so make sure you have any important data backed up.
If you didn't get the option to format the device before the Nokia handshake logo appears, repeat the same process again and hopefully you will receive the option before this logo appears.

  • Airport slowness with snow leopard

Anyone else noticing this? I've got my airport station in the other room with an airport express in the same room as the computer to extend the range. With just leopard, all the pages were coming up quickly, even java chat rooms were coming up very fast... no problems. Then I installed snow leopard and it just seem's more sluggish to load some pages. Like the apple main page that now takes longer to load. Some pages still load fast but I can tell a difference between leopard and snow L. via wifi... anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to the pages loading faster?

HI John and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Then I installed snow leopard and it just seem's more sluggish to load some pages. Like the apple main page that now takes longer to load
May not be your wi fi causing the problem. If you are using Safari to browser the internet, try the following.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
If Safari is sitll slow, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
Another thing to try is changing your Airport Channel.
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
    Click: Update
    Quit Airport Utility

  • MBP Got Slower with Snow Leopard

    Hi friends,
I have a 7 year old MPB with 200 GB capacity with 36 GB free and  these specs:
    Model Name:
    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:
    MacBookPro4,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache:
    3 MB
      Memory:
    2 GB
      Bus Speed:
    800 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:
    MBP41.00C1.B03
      SMC Version (system):
    1.27f2
      Serial Number (system):
      Hardware UUID:
    358AF7AF-CAF9-546D-81B1-BD0B0FD282A1
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:
I recently installed Snow Leopard and deleted about GB of my own files I didnt need. But rather than being faster, the MPB seems to be slower, with most programs taking a while to shut down or having to force quit them. There is also a lag in general after clicking on some stuff.
Really annoys me, I hope I didnt get duped into Snow for no reason.
    Your thoughts?
    Thanks

Backup your files off the computer to a storage drive and disconnect, then hold c or option key down and boot off the 10.6 disk and use Disk Utility to Erase with Security Option > Zero the entire drive.
When that's complete, quit and install 10.6, then reboot and use your same user name, then update to 10.6.8.
Use Pacifist from CharlesSoft to extract the iLife from your original machine spefic disks, then install programs from fresh sources.
Finally return a copy of your files into their respective folders from backup,
Keep the boot drive ideally under 50% filled, but not more that 80% filled.
This is a lengthly process, but it catches everything and will fix and speed up your machine to perfect health.
10.6 is fast, faster than 10.5 or even 10.7, and it's perfect for your older machine.
So your problem is either a bad upgrade, a prior issue, a corrupted user account or bad sectors on the drive, any or all will be cured by the above method if followed as directed in that order.
If your still having problems afterwards, the drive is dying and needs to be replaced or there is another hardware issue we can't solve.

  • PS CS4 seems to run slow under Snow Leopard...

Hello, this is my first post at the forums.  I just did some tests and am a bit baffled.
    Scenario:
    Computer 1:
    - New Mac Pro quad xeon running snow leopard and PS extended 10.0.1, 6 gigs of ram with only photoshop running
    - opened a 52"x52" 300 dpi image.
    - cropped image and the cropping took a bit longer than I hoped for maybe about 3-4 min.
    Computer 2:
    - Imac Intel core 2 duo with 2 gigs of ram with PS and AI and other apps running
    - opened same image
    - cropping was faster than the Mac pro.... took about 2-3 min
    Any thoughts?
    Another Scenario:
    Computer 1:
    - New Mac Pro quad xeon running snow leopard and PS extended 10.0.1, 6 gigs of ram with only photoshop running
    - opened a 2.8 gig 300 dpi image.
    - cropped image and got a message saying operation can't be done because out of ram
    Computer 2:
    - Quad g5 6 gigs or ram
    - opened same file
    - was able to crop but it took a while.
    Any thoughts?
I wanted to see if it's the OS or the Machine but I tried to install 10.5 in the new mac pro and it won't let me.
Just wanted to share been looking around for any info about app speeds.
    - Nico

Oops I meant 11.0.1 also to clarify the one running on the imac is PS CS4 standard not extended but the one running on the G5 and Mac pro is Extended.
