Entourage 2008 and Mavericks OS

Hi,
Since I installed Mavericks I have had problems with Entourage 2008, which I have as part of Office for Mac 2008.
1st, when Entourage starts up, it starts in a "Compose new email" status, with the address block and a blank email. There is nothing in Preferences to prevent this and it did not happen before.
Most annoying however is that I use Entourage to POP mail from Yahoo Mail Plus. It constantly fails on it's own. It produces an 17895 Error message; "Connection to server failed or was dropped."
Again, this did not happen prior to install. Searches of Yahoo's mail help site has not provided any help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

  • Entourage 2008 and iSync

Hey everyone, I was using the new Entourage 2008 and loved it, until I realized it was going to take A LOT of work to get it to sync with my Palm Centro. I ended up switching back to Entourage 2004 which is really starting to tick me off. Here's what I would like to be able to do, and you all may be able to tell me if this is indeed feasible or not.
    1. I would like to be able to sync my Centro (contacts, calendar, to-dos, notes, etc.) with Entourage, consequently I would like to be able to go both ways. So say I create an event in Entourage and then change the time of the event on the Centro, I would like that to be reflected on both the computer and Centro.
    2. I would like to be able to sync my contacts and calendar on MobileMe (I'm not sure how that system works, but for now I would just like to be able to view my calendar online).
    3. Eventually I'd like to sync the whole deal with like Google Calendars and stuff.
Entourage 2004 was SO easy to sync my Centro. I tried to sync with 2008 and it just made a bunch of duplicates and caused me a headache. After realizing that Microsoft wasn't going to be able to help me, I switched back to 2004. What a bummer, because the new 2008 is AWESOME!
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I've been looking online and on forums for weeks now and haven't really found a solid answer.

Wow, really? Why would Apple do that?
Because iSync's Palm support was severely out of date, didn't work very well, and, I guess it wouldn't be worth Apple's time and money to devote development resources to it further.
What exactly does the Missing Sync program do for me?
It'll basically sync everything between your Mac and Palm - contacts, calendars, notes, tasks, memos, install Palm OS applications and conduits, sync music, photos and videos. Far more than iSync ever did.
    Read more here: http://www.markspace.com/products/palm/palm-sync-software.html
Is there a better PDA to use with Mac OS X then?
iPhone is the best since Apple makes everything from the phone to the OS. It just works.
Are any of those going to work better than the Palm OS?
I don't know whether any of them will work better, but they all need third-party software from MarkSpace to sync with a Mac. None sync out-of-the-box.

  • Changed email from pop to imap in entourage 2008 and apple mail and have lost a lot of messages

Changed email from pop to imap in entourage 2008 and apple mail and have lost a lot of messages. I am a rookie and don't know what to do to correct the situation

I found this great set of mail AppleScripts:
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
It includes one script to delete duplicate messages. So if we can't find a way to do this right, then I'll just download all the duplicates then delete them. Of course I don't want to actually do that, lets call this the nuclear option.
So can anyone think of a way to make an IMAP account for my gmail without it downloading all the messages again that I have already downloaded?

  • Office 2008 and Mavericks, Will it run in the new OS?

I have an iMac running Mountain Lion and I have the Office 2008 suite.
Will the suite continue running if I upgrade to Mavericks?
I have a Mac Book Pro that when I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the one before a few applications including Parallels were not compatible.  I had a windows license and my other copy of Office 2008 quit working.  Dont want to pay more money for new software to Microsoft to begin with.   I gave up the Windows environment but I cannot give up Office, I can't afford to buy the newer version when what I have works for what I do
I already lost a copy of MS office for Mac

See https://discussions.apple.com/message/23547845#23547845 where the answer is yes and no.  From that thread it appears Office 2008 will run on Mavericks but some people are having trouble with it.
Note, MS will not be supporting Office 2008 on Mavericks.  Mavericks-related updates will be applied to Office 2011.  So if you upgrage to Mavericks try Office 2008 but if there are issues be prepared to shell out $140 for the home/student 2011 version (or more for the version that includes Outlook).
Is there a compelling feature in Maverkicks that would compel you to upgrade?  If not stick with ML to avoid giving MS more money.

  • Entourage 2008 and Exchange

So I've been using my local Entourage calendar for years now without Exchange. I already have allot of events already in there.
I recently got an account with a hosted Exchange provider for my company.
I'd like to move over all those events to my Exchange calendar so my assistants are able to view it as well as make changes to it. Right now, I have two calendars, the old local one with all my events and the empty one that syncs. The local one is only available to me through my computer and does not sync with Exchange.
    Thanks in advance.

You're better off posting your question on Microsoft's Office 2008 forum. You can find that forum at http://www.microsoft.com

  • PocketMac and Entourage 2008

I am using a Pearl 8130 from Verizon, Entourage 2008 and the latest version on PocketMac on a MacBook w Tiger. In order to sync and keep all of my information accurate on my BB these are the steps that I need to take
    1. Sync (two-way sync)
    2. Typically edit any information on my Mac
    3. Purge Calendar, Contacts, Task and Notes (DataPurgeUI)
    4.  Run SyncClean
    5. Sync (two-way sync)
    6. After step 1 is done (typically when I need to process everything) I just have to complete steps 3-5
When I do not follow these steps --> syncing hangs or PM crashes
Is there any simpler way to make this work. I need to use Entourage to keep my categories for GTD (iCal does not cut it and The MissingSync does not really play well with Entourage), but this is almost insane as it should not take this many steps to sync. Any suggestions advice would be great .

  • Can not sync my Blackberry 8830 with MacBook using Pocket Mac for BlackBerryto Entourage 2008

I recently purchased a Verizon plan with my new BlackBerry 8830 Curve. I also downloaded pocketmac for blackberry with the Verizon technical support person. He spent almost 2 hours with me yesterday. We still can not sync my Blackberry contacts and calendar events to my mackbook on Entourage 2008.
This is the message I get:
[02:20:57.110] Could not lcoate the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool.
[02:21:01.076] Could not lcoate the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool.
PS, they even typed in locate incorrectly.
Can some help? I am stressed out that I only have one location where my contacts are located- the BB
    Thanks
    Henry

Guess what ? Pocketmac for Blackberry just released a new version this afternoon. 4.125.
I downloaded the new version and it now has a sync for Entourage 2008 and it works BB to Entourage 2008 and Entourage 2008 to BB.
Thanks to them for finally fixing this major flaw

  • Entourage 2008 & iCal sync inaccurate free / busy status for events

On a campus using Exchange 2007, I am using Entourage 2008 and sync to iCal 3.0.2 (Leopard) via Sync Services in Entourage's preferences. Both Exchange 2007 and Entourage 2008 have only been installed in the last two months.
I have found that events which I mark as "free" in Entourage 2008 are changed to "busy" after a sync with iCal. The free / busy status is correct when the sync with Exchange takes place, but the status is incorrectly changed to busy every time the iCal sync takes place.
I need to put campus events, co-worker planned absences, and similar things on my calendar, but these items need to remain as "free" so that I can be scheduled during those times. This all worked correctly with Entourage 2004 and the older version of Exchange.
Does anyone know how to correct this behavior so that the free / busy status is not changed with a sync to iCal?

    Sue,
Wish I could offer some good advice, but the easy syncing of iCal and Entourage 2008 so far has been impossible if not a nightmare.
When you go to import in Entourage and iCal is NOT listed as "another application", we are in HUGE trouble.
A real shame that in today's world of "New Media" and PDA's like iPhones and Blackberry that the two billionaires from Apple and MS did not provide us with easy and simple export/import/sync tools.
Maybe they should rename Office 2008 to Office 1984

  • Entourage 2008 sync problems fixed?

    Hey Entourage users,
Is Entourage 2008 now synching correctly with Address Book?
FYI I bought Office 2008 the minute it came out, but when I imported Mail and my Apple Address Book, with synching turned on, Entourage kept replicating records each time it synched, leaving me with many multiple address listings in Entourage, and screwing up Address Book as well.
Now that there have been patches, I'm curious if this has been fixed. (I don't think anyone will blame me for not wanting to repeat this process again if it's not going to work.) I really need the PIM features of Entourage 2008 and would love for it to be finally usable.
    Thanks.

Address book sync'ing working fine with 2004 and 2008 fully patched. I'm still running issues with iCal/Entourage/iPhone sync'ing the calendars.

  • Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Finder, Word 2008, and Adobe Products barely work

I upgraded my 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks a few months ago. Since the upgrade things have spun out of control. The finder barely works. It takes minutes (yes, minutes) to open and look through folders. The spinning color wheel seems to run constantly.  On a related note, it takes between 10-60 seconds to find and open an email attachment (from gmail to computer) or word/excel/pdf file from any of those software packages. Lastly, word 2008 and even the new Adobe Pro seem to crash regularly now. Any idea what is happening? I took my machine into a "geek" and they suggested I get a new hard drive. I paid $200+ for all of the diagnostics and the new drive and the problems persist.

I have a macbook air bought in 2008 and am unsure if it can be upgraded to maverick.  Is there a serial number beyond which it is possible to upgrade?  I know that first I need to upgrade to mountain lion or some other fierce cat.
    The model identifier is MacbookAir1,1

No that system will not run Mavericks.

  • I'm using Entourage 2008 v 12.3.5 and lost ability to SEND.  Tried many small email tests.  Server continues to leave time out message.  "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.

I'm using Entourage 2008 v 12.3.5 and lost ability to SEND.  Tried many small email tests.  Server continues to leave time out message.  "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."  Comcast tells me server is not down all other network activity is fine.  WHat's up with this?

Starting earlier today, this also became my problem - can receive but not send in Entourage. The account settings are correct in Entourage - I even created a new account.  My Mac running 10.7.5 won't read the original Office : MAC 2008 disk, so I can't do a fix or reinstall from the disk.
This is not an issue if I log onto the Comcast site.
And so, I started using Mail but, unlike Entourage, Mail won't import my Entourage info.
    Argh...  :-(
